Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943880] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() from malloc_printerr() via XIDestroyDeviceProperty
I didn't notice at least 1 time touchpad self-disabling, now that bug report window doesn't appear. Should I try that package anyway? By the way, touchpad disables every time I type anything (even accidental arrow keystrokes) during kernel/modules (don't know exactly) load while system startup. This problem happens since 11.10 (or even 11.04), what can that be? Is it the-same-based bug? I have worked around this problem using the following in xorg.conf: Section InputClass Identifier Plantronics Plantronics DA45 MatchProduct Plantronics Plantronics DA45 Option Ignore on EndSection This disables the buttons on the headsets, but not the audio device driver. If you want the Plantronics DA45 headset adapters to work under 12.04 and don't care for the buttons, this will be a useful workaround (until a solution is provided). (In reply to comment #65) Meanwhile, it's been a year and change without a solution. #52 mentions this being caused by new security rules. Considering that, by and large, there won't be multiple users concurrently using the GPU *anyway* - is there any possibility of backing out that change instead, even just locally? aahhh, I forgot to buy a present :( Happy (belated) bug-birthday still! Seriously though, I think the change though in comment #52 is a change to the *hardware*, so unless you have some mad soldering skills there is no way 'back out that change', even just locally. Some more frequent status updates would certainly be nice though, and at least serve to let people know that work on fixing this glaring omission is still ongoing (this was also promised in comment #52). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You never know, I might decide to break out my soldering iron. See, I look at it this way: Best case, a random god intervenes and it gets fixed; worst case, I get to tell the insurance company that a madman with a soldering iron assaulted my laptop and I get a new, working one. Seriously, though. *Is* work ongoing? Is there anything I can do to help? I obviously don't know the API details here, so I doubt I can be much help on the programming side of things. I'm willing to test patches, of course, and in general I'd like to make myself useful. But if I knew this was going to take a year, I'd have sent the laptop back and found a working replacement. That's no longer feasible. I'd like to know if I'm going to wait *another* year, because finding a new one probably is.

(In reply to comment #70) Even with SNA enabled, the only solution that has worked for me is the workaround bord offered: CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling Unfortunately that's an option to gnome-shell (it is, isn't it?), which means it's less than useful to those of us running other window managers. So the workaround I used previously still applies - I need to disable compositing and use either vaapi or gl rendering, which perform vsync'ed screen updates. This way, I see no tearing. I have no tearing on GL in fullscreen. I do, however, have tearing for very simple GL code in windowed mode (fill window black, flip, fill screen white, flip - tearing is painfully obvious), mplayer -vo gl in both windowed and fullscreen mode (since its fullscreen is actually a screen-covering window and doesn't trigger the same mechanism), and mplayer -vo xv in all modes. This is with all compositing turned off *and* using a window manager that doesn't support in anyway, by the way. vaapi might possibly work, but mplayer doesn't support it. (In reply to comment #79) (In reply to comment #78) As I expected, then. I picked 800x600 because every laptop should be able to set that mode, but by all means switch it around. :-) There is tearing in fullscreen with 800x600. That's definitely 16:9 problem for me. Interesting. In retrospect, when I last tried it in fullscreen on my laptop, I had manually set it to 1920x1200; I (re)wrote the program against an nvidia card, just now. (Which means no tearing anywhere. Love those nvidia cards.) In the meantime, maybe we should switch to using my program for testing? mplayer is a huge codebase, and it's hard to tell whether any tearing is the fault of the player or the environment, while it's perfectly obvious what the program is doing. Yes, that would be great. May I ask you to write some code to render something not 16:9 and to stretch it to 16:9 in hardware, so act as you're watching non-16:9 video in mplayer. The way opengl works, that isn't actually a coherent request. It uses a (0,0)-(1,1) geometry no matter what the resolution or aspect rate of the window is, and it's up to the application to map something sensible to that. Admittedly modern opengl has some texture-framebuffer blitting routines that do care about pixels, but I'm not using those, and I don't think mplayer is either. I suspect your tearing isn't caused by having a not 16:9 aspect ratio so much as not using your laptop screen's native resolution, but could you check that? Try setting some other 16:9 resolutions with SetVideoMode? What I *can* do is get it to check the maximum screen resolution and always use that for fullscreen mode.

With rc6=0 I have only one top pixel line tearing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002958] [NEW] Moving external monitor around hard-locks x
Public bug reported: On a Lenovo Thinkpad X220:- 1. Attach external screen to the displayport connector via HDMI adapter 2. Boot the computer 3. Login 4. Observe all okay until running the display system settings applet and move the external display above (behind) the laptop display. X crashes to the point I have to use Alt+SysRq to reboot. I can run with the displays side-by-side but not one above the other. (my desk arrangement has the external display behind my laptop not side- by-side). I can recover the situation by moving ~/.config/monitors.xml out the way. I have attached my monitors.xml which may have some configuration issue causing the crash in X. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002951] [NEW] PS/2 keyboard input is ignored in X after a while
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to precise my (PS/2) keyboard just stops working after a while. This is fatal and all I can do is log out of the desktop session (or reboot) to get it working again. This happens every day or two, when I am typing - usually when scrolling back through xterm output. (shift page-up/page-down) Some investigation has revealed: hotplugging the keyboard doesn't change anything - nor does it produce any output in dmesg or /var/log/Xorg.0.log I can ssh in and the system is working fine. My mouse still works fine. plugging in a USB keyboard works fine and allows me to do some debugging: switching to console (ctrl-alt-F1) shows that the PS/2 keyboard is working fine in console mode, so it's only bust in X. Running xev shows only this when I hit a key on the dead keyboard: MappingNotify event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248 no keypress events. My /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf fies are attached. Setting up xorg (1:7.6+12ubuntu1) ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: libreoffice calc works fine in a full-screen window (as it starts up), but as soon as the window is shrunk (either due to dragging or hitting the window-bar button) it gets very confused. It still believes that it is full-screen, to top and left: If I hit alt-F then the 'file' menu appears disembodied over on the LH side of screen where it would be if the app was still full-screen. It looks as if the application never gets the 'window stopped being fullscreen' message. I can carry on using the application in the smaller window: keypresses move the selected cell. There are scrollbars part way across the window both horizontally and vertically. They stay a constant distance from the right and bottom window edges, respectively. clicks work inside the 'scroll-bar delineated' area, but not the area outside the scrollbars but inside the window. Only the window-manager bar to the right of the vertical scrollbar is redrawn - the part to the left is overwritten by the application toolbars. The window area between the scrollbars and the RHS/bottom window edge is not redrawn and just contains 'old' screen data. I've added a screenshot to make this rather clearer. I'm using xfce and thus xfwm4 window-manager. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002972] [NEW] xterm moves to upper left when clicking titel bar
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I can produce the problem by starting an xterm and clicking (or double clicking) the title bar. It moves one pixle to the upper left. Same xclock, and xfontsel, but not xfig, xpdf or any software built on gnome. Since I use a touchpad with separate mouse bottons, we can't blame a tremor for that. On Precise automatic installation chooses 1680x1050 (16:10) which is once not the native resolution of the monitor and second, not the correct aspect ratio. If I open the Displays part of the System Settings and choose 1920x1080 (16:9) manually, the GPU crashes with a completely messed up image and no possibility to stop this by switching to a text console. The computer actually switches on Ctrl+Alt+F1 (as a subsequent Ctrl+Alt+Del works) but the console does not get visible. The image does not change. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
A quick update on post #49 I finally did get a freeze with the more up to date Intel driver in the PPA. Though, it did take a lot longer to freeze than had been occurring with the driver in the 12.04 repository. Another difference is that instead of just a black screen with a cursor, I got a screen with my wallpaper and the cursor. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997075] [NEW] XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer
You have been subscribed to a public bug: You can read a little bit about my quest to get my computer back to normal on here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11920008#post11920008 After upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 Unity 3D was unusable and slow. I managed to get it fixed by deleting ~/.config however after a couple of minutes my computer freezes and the only way to get it back is using the reset button. I can SSH from another computer and see Xorg is taking 100% of the CPU. It seems Gnome Shell is not affected. The problem only happens in Unity 3D. $cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 12.04 LTS $sudo lshw -c video *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: G80 [GeForce 8800 GTS] vendor: NVIDIA Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:01:00.0 version: a2 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0 resources: irq:16 memory:fd00-fdff memory:d000-dfff memory:fa00-fbff ioport:cc00(size=128) memory:fe8e-fe8f $dpkg -l |grep nvidia ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.44 Find obsolete NVIDIA drivers ii nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-current-updates 295.49-0ubuntu0.1 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-settings295.33-0ubuntu1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver ii nvidia-settings-updates295.33-0ubuntu1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver $ dpkg -l |grep Xorg ii nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-current-updates 295.49-0ubuntu0.1 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.2 Xorg X server - core server ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997075 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm running stock x64_64 12.04 and am affected by this. We have attempted to update to 2.19 but it still occurs. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the desktop before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. This is reproducible in metacity, not just compiz. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. All of those affected are Intel-based machines. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to kill the X session, which means all the open files will be lost. The launchpad page in which this is documented can be found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/966744 Thank you for your time. Please let me know how it can be debugged further (I understand that this is likely not enough information) Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/966744/comments/55 On 2012-05-22T19:15:11+00:00 Chris Wilson wrote: This sounds like the Xserver damage bug.
