@Abhishek - I'm glad that worked for you, but it shouldn't be necessary. Other people in this bug didn't need to do that. (That page in the link you provided was published before 295.49 was available in -updates - see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers- updates/+publishinghistory ) I think something may be seriously wrong with your 12.04 installation. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
I have a secondary computer at the office which is not used frequently. I was using it the last few days last week. It had a clean, updated install of 12.04 64 bit. The video performancwe was very laggy. So I took a look at what it had for video. It was nvidia, and thew 295-40 driver was installed. In synaptic, as of Friday, the current nvidia driver available through the repositories was 295-40. I ended up using the swat 295-53 driver, and the video improved sigfnigicantly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485 Title: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/982485/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

But if I launch it in fullscreen mode, or hit the fullscreen toggle button (“\”), my X server crashes with the following in the log: Backtrace: [ 69937.971] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x7f8e344b9866] [ 69937.971] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8e34331000+0x18c70a) [0x7f8e344bd70a] [ 69937.971] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f8e33657000+0xfcb0) [0x7f8e33666cb0] [ 69937.971] 3: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f8e324cb000+0x146849) [0x7f8e32611849] [ 69937.971] 4: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x114d6) [0x7f8e306ff4d6] [ 69937.971] 5: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x12fd2) [0x7f8e30700fd2] [ 69937.971] 6: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x3289d) [0x7f8e3072089d] [ 69937.971] 7: /usr/bin/X (miCopyRegion+0x18a) [0x7f8e344980fa] [ 69937.971] 8: /usr/bin/X (miDoCopy+0x392) [0x7f8e344985f2] [ 69937.971] 9: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x3381e) [0x7f8e3072181e] [ 69937.971] 10: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8e34331000+0x11970c) [0x7f8e3444a70c] [ 69937.971] 11: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x249d5) [0x7f8e307129d5] [ 69937.971] 12: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f8e306ee000+0x261c0) [0x7f8e307141c0] [ 69937.971] 13: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdrm.so.2 (drmHandleEvent+0xa3) [0x7f8e30b4c583] [ 69937.971] 14: /usr/bin/X (WakeupHandler+0x6b) [0x7f8e343836eb] [ 69937.971] 15: /usr/bin/X (WaitForSomething+0x1b6) [0x7f8e344b6c66] [ 69937.971] 16: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8e34331000+0x4e4f2) [0x7f8e3437f4f2] [ 69937.971] 17: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8e34331000+0x3d6aa) [0x7f8e3436e6aa] [ 69937.971] 18: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7f8e324ec76d] [ 69937.971] 19: /usr/bin/X (0x7f8e34331000+0x3d99d) [0x7f8e3436e99d] [ 69937.971] Segmentation fault at address 0x7f8e35111548 [ 69937.971] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). For example, if I don’t use GNOME Shell (e.g. using Metacity instead), fullscreen mode works fine, and X doesn’t crash. I haven’t tested whether this is crashable in Unity (Compiz) or on another video card (this is a laptop — I cannot replace the video card). I promised you that I will let you know my experience when I install a separate graphic card. I plugged in a ATI HD5770 PCIe card into my machine and after struggling with the installation of the AMD drivers, I finally succeeded to install the drivers on ubuntu 12.04 64bit kernel 3.2 as show in the following uname output: Linux Asus 3.2.0-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 21 16:52:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux My setup now is Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard with I7 3770K + 16GB Ram + ATI HD5770 GPU on Ubuntu 64 For two days now, I did not experience any system freeze ; Neither Xorg nor complete kernel freeze. I even enabled multi-threading in FlightGear which used to freeze the system very quickly when HD4000 was used, but now it works fine. I hope this comment will help those who are working on this problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301075] Re: stylus input has offset when xinerama is turned on
I have the same bug. I have a four-screen xinerama setup. The tablet is stretched over the four screens, just as I want. The tablet works fine for menus and buttons, but not for painting (mypaint, gimp). When I do something with painting, it appears that the tablet is over-moving. Some examples: my screen layout is: +---+---+ | 1 | 2 | +---+---+ | 3 | 4 | +---+---+ If I have gimp/mypaint in screen number 3, and my cursor is in the middle of screen no 3, it paints in the middle of the whole screen: this is in the top-right corner of screen 3. The more I move my cursor towards the left-bottom corner of screen 3, the closer the painting gets to the cursor. In gimp this only happens when I want to use pressure-sensitivity. If I disable that in gimps device settings, the painting works as expected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 527428] Re: There is no way to rotate a display using nvidia proprietary drivers
NVIDIA finally introduced support for RandR 1.2 and 1.3 in their 302.07 beta Linux graphics driver - see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTA5NTY The latest 302.xx series driver is the 302.11 Linux driver beta. It contains further RandR improvements and can be installed on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin by adding and enabling the xorg-edgers PPA which is available at https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=precise Note that in this particular case you can (and probably should) ignore the warning This PPA is currently meant to be used as a whole. Same problem for me since I upgraded to 12.04 in April. I can't click anything. I have to ALT+CTRL+DEL, then log out. After logging in a second time, the mouse works again. My mouse works fine, until I use it to launch something (i.e. I can click the desktop and drag select icons, click the launcher, etc). For instance, if I launch my browser or terminal, I can no longer use the mouse*. *Sometimes I can click the bar at the top of the window (I can click the task bar area near the time, or minimize the window). My keyboard still works. I can still press the Start button on my keyboard and open the dash, and type. I just can't click properly! Is there anything like xprop or xwininfo that can tell me what has stolen my mouse? evtest still shows the mouse events - the desktop simply doesn't respond. I tried adding noapic acpi=off to grub, but then my system won't boot. Not sure if it's related, but I also experience bug 971748 on every boot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1006072] Re: [gm45] Intel GPU X4500 hung, fuzzy screen or total lock of KDE session
apport information ** Description changed: Follow-up of bug #930807 due to upgrade to Quantal 12.10 Happened twice today, when I was working with a virtual machine (vmplayer 4.0.3 build-703057). Both occured when vmplayer was in background, but active. The second crash pinned X to 100% CPU and made it necessary to kill the session rather than log out, restart X, and log in again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008139] [NEW] Artifacts on the screen after closing the fullscreen application
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I writing here because I have some problems on my 64bit Ubuntu 12.04 (probably Unity Shell or graphic drivers). When I: - close the fullscreen application (like Minecraft after pressing F11, but not in Firefox when I'm in fullscreen mode) - log on another account (without logout from 1st account) and then login back on previous account - back after suspend or hibernate I have some artifacts on my screen – just look at screenshoots below. I noticed that if I execute `unity --replace ; compiz --replace` most everything is fine again (however not every toolbar is placed in *top panel*). Also sometimes if I move the cursor over the launchbar (after I did one of these actions), it causes a decrease in the number of frames per second. I can move cursor however whole shell is little frozen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
Please forgive me if this is a stupid post, but I am an affected user and I'm just slightly confused. What is the status of this bug? The description says that there is a stable solution, which seems to be rebuilding the evdev module; however, if I'm understanding the comments thus far correctly, it seems like that may not actually work? I don't know much about building modules, but I'm willing to read up on how to and try if this solution has a chance, but it seems this solution may have been proven not to work. I guess my question really is: is there a working solution to this or are people still working on one? If there is a working solution, can someone please point me in the right direction? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
I compiled the driver manually and started debugging a little. The crash is somewhere in static void EvdevInitAxesLabels(EvdevPtr pEvdev, int mode, int natoms, Atom *atoms) (mode=1 natoms=8) I even merged the current changes from git... but that didn't do anything either. (as soon as you plug in the dongle-x crashes) I think the main problem is actually that evdev shouldn't handle the device at all - since it is not a keyboard or a mouse... but I don't know the kernel code enough to really continue there. Is there any way to tell evdev to ignore the device id of the dongle? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973297 Title: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/973297/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
Every time I get this error (about once a week or less) dmesg has the following message: *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id. I have been careful to check if the framabuffer error happens at the same instant I see the bug manifesting itself and it does. Lenovo X220 with Intel graphics. I have the laptop to do nothing when lid closes on AC power, sleep when lid closes on battery. But it was already happening when the computer was set to always sleep when lid is closed (I changed exactly to avoid hitting this bug too often). My guess is that this bug is being triggered by some sort of sequence of lid opening and closing and AC power going on and off. Also, I have the bug happening twice by closing and instantly reopening the lid (but still, I can't find a way to reproduce the problem). I am not seeing any correlation between time computer has been left with lid closed (whether it is sleeping of not) and chance of this bug manifesting itself (except for the instant close-then-open case I mentioned above). Of course these are anecdotal observations. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/966744/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.
I had this problem too, sporadically, for a very long time. Recently it got quite a bit worse with a new release of fglrx, so I undertook to solve it. What was happening for me is that the X server used the dpms settings specified in the ServerFlags section (BlankTime, etc.) of xorg.conf to put the display to sleep after 10 minutes, then when KDE's power management daemon tried to put the display to sleep after 20 minutes, it caused some kind of race condition in the X server and required a reboot. My solution was to *add* the following to the ServerFlags section of my xorg.conf: Option BlankTime 0 Option StandbyTime 0 Option SuspendTime 0 Option OffTime 0 to turn off xset's dpms handling entirely, and leave it up to KDE to blank the display. Note that all four values default to 600 (ten minutes) if they're not specified! (My feeling is that as long as KDE and GNOME are set to handle display blanking by default in the distribution, then the above values should ship with the default xorg.conf.) I hope this helps anyone else with this problem. For the OP: you might want to dispable display dimming as well in case fglrx can only handle one kind of power saving request at a time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958279 Title: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008298] [NEW] Severe graphics corruption on Intel Mobile 4 Series after a few hours
Public bug reported: With Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Alpha, I'm getting very bad graphics corruption that requires logging out. Logging out and logging back in is sufficient to restore my system to working order. This affects either Unity or GNOME Shell so it's not specific to either of those environments. This has been going on for at least the past week or two. Screenshot of the corrupted state attached. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
@madbiologist: Since the release is committed, I should have received 295.53 by default when I checked Install 3rd party software. What I received was 295.40 and even after updates, it was still the same. It never upgraded to 295.53 even from update manager (it showed it is up-to-date). All other updates worked fine (I received Firefox update as well as other updates just fine from the update manager). The article you mentioned worked for me and installed 295.53. However, Unity3D is still very slow for me. I have a 6150 Nvidia card. If no other users are experiencing this, then I will file a bug.
