[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox

2012-06-28 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Reading the /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/changelog.gz I'd
guess the fix might be commit 2eec53d0b9232970fe3d03ce6c8940ebeea44bee
(uxa: Default to using TILING_X for pixmaps.)

The commit message says that it should fix GPU Hung for G31 chipset but
perhaps the same issue is triggered here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox

2012-06-28 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Even with drivers from x-updates PPA, I'm seeing a rendering issue with
Firefox nightly. Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the URL
http://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/amd-launches-worlds-fastest-2011dec22.aspx
 in a new tab.
2. Hower the mouse cursor above top right Find a Driver draver on the page.

Expected result:

The draver should slide down and the page should otherwise stay as is.

Actual result:

The draver slides down and the main content area randomly changes color.
I once got dark green letters on pure white, another time it was dark
red letters on pure white. I'll test if I can get a screenshot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox

2012-06-28 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
After taking the photo of the screen, I was able to get correct
rendering by simply raising another window partially above the Firefox
window. As I'm running compiz, Firefox should have no reason to redraw
itself in that case but something fixed the rendering (I'd guess that
because the window lost focus, Firefox un-howered the drawer on the page
and this triggered redraw).

Should I open a new bug for the Firefox text rendering issue (random
body text color on that web page)?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox

2012-06-28 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
I cannot get a screenshot about the issue with randomly changing text or
background color because the Firefox seems to redraw itself if I press
Alt+Print Screen. I can reproduce the issue with Firefox
13.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.10.04.1, too, but it's much harder to reproduce
with it and usually only the color of the links on page is incorrect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox

2012-06-28 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
I can reproduce the Firefox random color body text issue only once after
loading the URL in a new tab. If the issue does not show immediately, it
will show never. To reproduce, I just close the tab, open a new one with
CTRL+N and paste the URL into the address bar again. After howering the
drawer, the body text color randomly changes on first hower.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-06-28 Thread Raman Gupta
I'm on a desktop so I suspect the only time the power saving stuff kicks
in is when the monitors go to sleep... I'm guessing that for a laptop
the driver may try to manage the power consumption more aggressively,
and so cause this to happen more often.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018626] Re: xorg

2012-06-28 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-28 Thread C . Schöll
Seems totally arbitrary to me, but at least for me it worked:

I read at AskUbuntu http://askubuntu.com/a/133537/71437 about this being
related to the USC. In fact since removing it I did not have a single
dark resume and I used to have it everytime. As said, this seems
completely arbitrary.

This patch is in xorg-server-1.12.2.901. Can you still reproduce it on
this version?

Note that this bug can be workarounded by disabling smooth scrolling on
xf86-input-evdev side - it's one line change:

diff --git a/src/evdev.h b/src/evdev.h

That's what I'm running right now...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018962] [NEW] After login mouse pointer does not work

2012-06-28 Thread Reuben Thomas
Public bug reported:

My display manager (as you should be able to see) is gdm, and my desktop
is GNOME 3.

When I log in, the mouse pointer is working; after I have pressed Enter
to enter my password, and the screen refreshes (i.e. my session is
starting up) the mouse pointer does not work: moving on the touchpad
does not move the pointer.

If I switch to another virtual terminal and back, the pointer starts to
work again.

Marcin, you're right. The patch is, in fact, in xorg-server-1.12.2.901

Alexander: If you switch over to the xorg-edgers PPA (

again in no time. They adopted the bug-fixed xorg-server-1.12.2.901 on
June 24, 2012.

If the xorg-edgers PPA works for you, please be sure to comment on this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977804] Re: Unity crashes when many windows are opened (intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device)

2012-06-28 Thread alexus
Hi, All!

I've installed an update of compiz up to version 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.1 via
-proposed repository. The update has fixed some errors included
compiz (decor) - Warn: failed to bind pixmap to texture
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/929989)
I have made few tests of Unity (3D) in part of switcning between many opened
windows (e.g., Nautilus and gnome-terminal) via Super+W, Alt+Tab, Alt+` with
success (without crashed Unity due to the bug intel_do_flush_locked failed: No
space left on device).
The only thing is used xorg-edgers ppa. Will try to purge the ppa and test
Unity behaviour once again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004727] Re: Everytime the system update I can't access Unity 3d

2012-06-28 Thread Mudito
More or less solved: removed NVIDA alltogether and reinstalled from
Adtional Drivers, before this procedure didn't work, now it did. But
still, if anyone wants to use the latest provided by NVidia they will
have problems everytime the system updates. I get the impression it is
the kernel update which is screwing it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018510] Re: apport hook tags too many bugs regression-update

2012-06-28 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

The stable release update team has subscribed to bug reports that are
tagged either regression-proposed or regression-update and has noticed
that quite a few bugs are tagged regression-update which should not be.

The question in xdiagnose that leads to tagging bugs regression-update
  is a bit ambiguous:

The problem began right after system software update

This could mean either installing a package from -updates or happened
after upgrading from one release to another. Due to the quantity of
false positives the best thing seems to be just to remove the question.

This should be SRU'ed for both Oneiric and Precise.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1) run ubuntu-bug xorg
+ 2) At the first dialog box you will see a radio button labelled:
+'Continue. The problem began right after system software update.'
+
+ In the proposed version of the package this question should not appear.
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL:
+ This question just affects the tags being added to the bug and no regression
in functionality of the apport hook is possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017085] [NEW] Horizontal mouse movement inproportional in multi monitor setup.

2012-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As reported in [1] and experienced by me today under 12.04 the mouse
pointer starts moving twice as fast as soon as I plug in a second screen
to use as an extension. This only happens with my trackpad (using a Dell
XPS 15z) but not with the external mouse attached at the same time.

Don' know if there is any command I can run to make this claim more solid.
Steps to reproduce:

1. Attach second screen.
2. In Displays settings choose NOT to mirror the displays. (Side note: I also
chose to not have a second launcher, dunno if that matters).
3. Try pointing at some buttons with the trackpad. In horizontal direction the
pointer moves twice as fast as vertically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015364] [NEW] Ubuntu locks up on continuous screen brightness change

2012-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have been able to reproduce this bug three out of three times in the
last ten minutes. Using the function keys that change the laptop screen
brightness (basically F4 and F5 without the 'Fn' key), to continuously
change the brightness (i.e. holding the keys down continuously), I am
able to lock the computer up COMPLETELY. By completely, I mean that the
computer responds to no input (Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't nothing, mouse
doesn't move) and is frozen (e.g music playing on Spotify gets stuck and
plays continuous noise).

I can also reproduce this by closing all unessential applications
indicators also. (It takes a few more seconds of trying if the
indicators are closed).

I don't know any means to ssh into my own machine, so I cannot give you
the dmesg log.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: pyopencl - please sync use opencl-icd virtual package

2012-06-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
The package python-pyopencl depends on nvidia-current, which makes it
impossible to correctly use on AMD / ATI systems.

In debbugs #628702 debian started using a virtual package opencl-icd
instead of depending directly on particular graphics driver / opencl
implementation.

We should follow the same.

TODO

* syn pyopencl
* nvidia-graphics-drivers or nvidia-common (not sure) to provide opencl-icd
* fglrx-installer to provide opencl-icd

** Summary changed:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-28 Thread Edward Donovan
compiz needs the same one-line patch as the last few, and it has another
issue, at least on my machine. It appears the 'source_compiz.py' hook
needs this import:

  from apport.hookutils import *

And I've added that in my patch. Without it 'ubuntu-bug compiz' throws
an exception, saying the function 'command_output' is not defined.

  ERROR: hook /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py crashed:
  Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py, line 799, in

File /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py, line 18, in
add_info
  report['CompizPlugins'] = command_output(['gconftool-2',
NameError: global name 'command_output' is not defined

Some apport hooks have the import statement above. Some have just
'import apport.hookutils'. Only the former fixed this on my system.
The latter seems to work fine for other packages, but not here. Maybe
I'm misssing something; I didn't explore this any further. (Nor did I
try to fix bug 777221 while I was in there. :)

Thanks.

** Patch added: python3 patch for compiz's apport hook. also adds an 'import'
that seems needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998727] Re: Desktop freezes, mouse movable but no interaction

2012-06-28 Thread J Phani Mahesh
Just to clarify, When my desktop hangs, The display completely freezes.
I've set the key-binding Ctrl+Shift+Esc to unity--replace, since I have
to do that very often. It has become a big trouble.

With precise-proposed enabled, I had problems more often, and had to do
a clean install. And now, I can not open Libre office, Desktop hangs
everytime I open any file, or the program directly, so the severity
increased. And most of the time, when I create or delete any file from
within terminal or nautilus, The display freezes.

Most of the time, the return code of unity --replace is 137, and I re-
run the command to get things working. But at times, the return code is
1,when running unity --replace wont help. It says: unity-panel-service
not running.

I'm behind a firewall and a proxy server due to which apport-collect and
ubuntu-bug do not directly work. Can I do an apport-cli and upload the
crash file? Allthe machines I access to suffer with the same problem.

Apologies that I could not respond earlier. the previous mail somehow
skipped my inbox.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881628] [NEW] Bad performance after a few minutes

2012-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I startup my computer everything runs very smoothly. Then after a
whiles work, it gets VERY laggy. Everything is painfully slow, glxgears
give me ~10fps :O

I havent found a single source that triggers this, it seems to happend
after a while, no matter what I do. Maybe a memory leak in the on the
gfx-memory? (RAM is several GB free). I'd be glad to give more
information, if I know what to look for.

Works fine in 10.04 LTS

I have tried installing 10.10, 11.04, 11.10 and 12.04 and all gives this
issue.

Also tried running with and without nvidia binary drivers (as well as
trying all different available binary drivers in the list)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-06-28 Thread Craig Hansen
I'm using the Tear Free option at the moment, but screen refresh is
terribly slow, even when used over a LAN. It appears to be refreshing
entire screens at a time, which is what I presume the noxdamage setting
also does. Yes, it works but its really so slow as to be completely
unusable unless you are truly desperate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1012916] Re: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes

2012-06-28 Thread markb
I'm using nouveau from xorg-edgers ppa on 12.04 and I think I am having
this same bug just recently. My Unity 3D session will hang anywhere from
1 minute to a few hours after I boot. Sometimes the entire UI locks up,
other times the UI locks up but my mouse cursor will still move (but
can't select anything). I can not select an alternate console via
ctrl+alt+f1 etc. Note I mainly use gnome shell and I have never seen
this problem there, only in Unity 3D which I occasionally try out to see
where it is at. This bug essentially stops me from using Unity atm. It
could be related to kernel 3.5.0-2 which xorg-edgers seems to have
pulled in to my system 3 days ago?
