[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox
Reading the /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/changelog.gz I'd guess the fix might be commit 2eec53d0b9232970fe3d03ce6c8940ebeea44bee (uxa: Default to using TILING_X for pixmaps.) The commit message says that it should fix GPU Hung for G31 chipset but perhaps the same issue is triggered here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018706 Title: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1018706/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox
Even with drivers from x-updates PPA, I'm seeing a rendering issue with Firefox nightly. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open the URL http://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/amd-launches-worlds-fastest-2011dec22.aspx in a new tab. 2. Hower the mouse cursor above top right Find a Driver draver on the page. Expected result: The draver should slide down and the page should otherwise stay as is. Actual result: The draver slides down and the main content area randomly changes color. I once got dark green letters on pure white, another time it was dark red letters on pure white. I'll test if I can get a screenshot.
After taking the photo of the screen, I was able to get correct rendering by simply raising another window partially above the Firefox window. As I'm running compiz, Firefox should have no reason to redraw itself in that case but something fixed the rendering (I'd guess that because the window lost focus, Firefox un-howered the drawer on the page and this triggered redraw). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018706] Re: Intel X4500 display driver crashes X when loading an URL in Firefox
I cannot get a screenshot about the issue with randomly changing text or background color because the Firefox seems to redraw itself if I press Alt+Print Screen. I can reproduce the issue with Firefox 13.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.10.04.1, too, but it's much harder to reproduce with it and usually only the color of the links on page is incorrect.
I can reproduce the Firefox random color body text issue only once after loading the URL in a new tab. If the issue does not show immediately, it will show never. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
Seems totally arbitrary to me, but at least for me it worked: I read at AskUbuntu http://askubuntu.com/a/133537/71437 about this being related to the USC. In fact since removing it I did not have a single dark resume and I used to have it everytime. As said, this seems completely arbitrary. You have been subscribed to a public bug: As reported in [1] and experienced by me today under 12.04 the mouse pointer starts moving twice as fast as soon as I plug in a second screen to use as an extension. This only happens with my trackpad (using a Dell XPS 15z) but not with the external mouse attached at the same time. Don' know if there is any command I can run to make this claim more solid. Try pointing at some buttons with the trackpad. In horizontal direction the pointer moves twice as fast as vertically. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015364] [NEW] Ubuntu locks up on continuous screen brightness change
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have been able to reproduce this bug three out of three times in the last ten minutes. Using the function keys that change the laptop screen brightness (basically F4 and F5 without the 'Fn' key), to continuously change the brightness (i.e. holding the keys down continuously), I am able to lock the computer up COMPLETELY. By completely, I mean that the computer responds to no input (Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't nothing, mouse doesn't move) and is frozen (e.g music playing on Spotify gets stuck and plays continuous noise). I can also reproduce this by closing all unessential applications indicators also. (It takes a few more seconds of trying if the indicators are closed). I don't know any means to ssh into my own machine, so I cannot give you the dmesg log. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
compiz needs the same one-line patch as the last few, and it has another issue, at least on my machine. It appears the 'source_compiz.py' hook needs this import: from apport.hookutils import * And I've added that in my patch. Without it 'ubuntu-bug compiz' throws an exception, saying the function 'command_output' is not defined. ERROR: hook /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py crashed: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py, line 799, in add_hooks_info symb['add_info'](self, ui) File /usr/share/apport/package-hooks//source_compiz.py, line 18, in add_info report['CompizPlugins'] = command_output(['gconftool-2', NameError: global name 'command_output' is not defined Some apport hooks have the import statement above. Some have just 'import apport.hookutils'. Only the former fixed this on my system. The latter seems to work fine for other packages, but not here. Maybe I'm misssing something; I didn't explore this any further. (Nor did I try to fix bug 777221 while I was in there. :) Thanks. ** Patch added: python3 patch for compiz's apport hook. also adds an 'import' that seems needed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1013171/+attachment/3207409/+files/compiz.patch ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013171 Title: Many package hooks not ported to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1013171/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998727] Re: Desktop freezes, mouse movable but no interaction
Just to clarify, When my desktop hangs, The display completely freezes. I've set the key-binding Ctrl+Shift+Esc to unity--replace, since I have to do that very often. It has become a big trouble. With precise-proposed enabled, I had problems more often, and had to do a clean install. And now, I can not open Libre office, Desktop hangs everytime I open any file, or the program directly, so the severity increased. And most of the time, when I create or delete any file from within terminal or nautilus, The display freezes. Most of the time, the return code of unity --replace is 137, and I re- run the command to get things working. But at times, the return code is 1,when running unity --replace wont help. It says: unity-panel-service not running. I'm behind a firewall and a proxy server due to which apport-collect and ubuntu-bug do not directly work. Can I do an apport-cli and upload the crash file? Yes, it works but its really so slow as to be completely unusable unless you are truly desperate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772873 Title: Vino does not work with compositing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/772873/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1019131] [NEW] vsync should be enabled by default for nvidia
Public bug reported: Quite simply because otherwise performance in the default unity/compiz session is awful. There is very visible tearing when moving windows, switching workspaces ect, ect. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1012916] Re: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes
I'm using nouveau from xorg-edgers ppa on 12.04 and I think I am having this same bug just recently. My Unity 3D session will hang anywhere from 1 minute to a few hours after I boot. Sometimes the entire UI locks up, other times the UI locks up but my mouse cursor will still move (but can't select anything). I can not select an alternate console via ctrl+alt+f1 etc. Note I mainly use gnome shell and I have never seen this problem there, only in Unity 3D which I occasionally try out to see where it is at. This bug essentially stops me from using Unity atm. It could be related to kernel 3.5.0-2 which xorg-edgers seems to have pulled in to my system 3 days ago? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012916 Title: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1012916/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
