[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()
I also get this message. I'm on 12.04 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s. X usually crashes after suspending/waking up the notebook a couple of times . I open the notebook, type in my password, and after a few seconds in Gnome-Shell am thrown back into LightDM. After logging in again Apport tells me that /usr/bin/Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty(). This is driving me nuts. I'd be happy to provide error logs etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956071 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/956071/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Same here. My Dell XPS 1430 has the same issue: ever since the upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 it frequently freezes completely, no mouse, no keys, last bits of audio keep repeating. Note that I don't have an Ivy bridge processor, just an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz and GeForce 9400M G/integrated/SSE2 graphics card. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026580 Title: happened after upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1026580/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@Bryce I know I could have attached log and more infos about my crashes, but I figured that after all these logs people have submitted so far, that it would be pretty much of the same... since we all experience the same problem. The issue might be on NVidia's side... but the way Ubuntu is dealing with this is highly unprofessional.. if that issue what happening on Windows, you can be sure that this issue would be resolved relatively quickly. Personally, in more than 15 years of computing, and the majority of it with Microsoft OSes, I have never seen a problem stick for so long. Fortunately for me, I just joined in, but seeing that this bug is still here after so long... I dunno... Look, NVidia isn't a 3rd or 4th player in the video card industry... So you can be sure there is a lot of people running NVidia's card... this cannot be ignored like this. At least, make the default selection to Ubuntu 2D, so that people joining in aren't experiencing problems right after they reboot on their first install. This really give a bad opinion about the product. Fortunately, I've been around and played many times with Linux in the past, going back to kernel 1.x, so I'm more forgiving and my past experiences taught me to choose ATi when building a computer to use with Linux. Unfortunately, I didn't planned on running it when I built this one a couple of years ago. I would have also thought that NVidia might have stepped up their game and finally get some work done on their linux driver... seems the open source project might get there faster. But we are straying outside the subject... just wanted to voice out my thoughts on the matter... If I had been a totally new linux user, trying Ubuntu 12.04 and having problems after first boot... it would have certainly be enough to make me put the windows dvd back in and re- install. Regarding the crashes, I decided to give a try to Ubuntu 2d, and seems like my crashes are gone. Ever since I switched to it yesterday, I haven't had a single crash. And I have had Photoshop opened since, did plenty of work without losing anything, with my browser opened and using it when I needed. I noticed there was a couple of important packages that was updated yesterday, with gnome that was automatically added in an apt-get upgrade. Haven't tried it yet, since I kinda like unity, and it's running great now... Really happy about this work-around, because I wouldnt have installed the Nouveau drivers, since it probably wouldnt run so well with Photoshop extended... Haven't tried, but I get that feeling. So this solution is very good for me, only losing a bit of eye candy, but I wasn't using the 3d part of compiz, just some extra visuals... But if I were working at Ubuntu, I would really be concerned about this issue in those 4-5 months the bug existed, you might have lost quite a few potential customers... those that will try linux for the first time and get this issue will most certainly go back to windows, or try a different distro. All in all, I must say that Linux/Ubuntu made some really nice improvements since the last time I tried it... this might just be the time when I will leave Windows for good. Don't get me wrong I would have liked to do that 10 years ago.. but it is only starting to be possible (at least for me) Best regards -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
I had the same problem after some X server updates in Ubuntu 12.04. The screen went black ( in fact in white color) after I reopened the screen lid. This is how I solved it. In synaptic, I can see the version of xserver- xorg-core is 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6. I choose Force version and downgrade it to 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10. Then there is no problem anymore. (BTW, I use the latest verion of compiz and there is no problem). I am using Thinkpad W520 with latest nvidia-current driver installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/966744/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015292] Re: QT5 based applications fails with a segmentation fault with Pandaboard and the SGX driver
** Description changed: + [Impact] + fill me in with explanation of severity and frequency of bug on users and justification for backporting the fix to the stable release + + [Test Case] + fill me in with detailed *instructions* on how to reproduce the bug. This will be used by people later on to verify the updated package fixes the problem. + 1. + 2. + 3. + Broken Behavior: + Fixed Behavior: + + [Regression Potential] + fill me in with a discussion of how regressions would typically manifest as a result of this change. It's assumed that all candidate patches are well-tested and have low overall risk of regression; but if there's an area of concern be sure to call it out so testers can check it. + + [Original Report] + While testing Qt 5 support on Ubuntu, and validating the support for OpenGL ES2.0 with Pandaboard, I couldn't start Snowshoe (Qt 5 - webkit based browser) as it gives a segmentation fault and also breaks the X11 server (with the pvr driver). After a quick check with Snowball (Mali 400), it worked properly and as expected, so this could probably be related with the current SGX driver available for Pandaboard. How to reproduce the issue: 1) Enable https://launchpad.net/~canonical-qt5-edgers/+archive/qt5-daily 2) Install 'snowshoe-mobile' package 3) Run snowshoe: $ PATH=/opt/qt5/bin:$PATH; snowshoe This is with Ubuntu 12.04 with pvr-omap4 1.7.10.0.1.21-0ubuntu1 (from archive) and also 1.7.15.0.1.57-1 from TI's PPA. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015292 Title: QT5 based applications fails with a segmentation fault with Pandaboard and the SGX driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-omap4-extras-graphics/+bug/1015292/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 902670] Re: blank (white) desktop, no icons, no windows
Dear maintainer, I experience the same with 12.04 LTS PPC64 Nvidida FX5200. unity 2d or booting with nouveau.noaccel=1 (defaults to 2D) bypasses the bug. The same hardware using LXDE also experiences this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- nouveau/+bug/952101 Again, booting with noveau.noaccel=1 bypasses/avoids the bug there. Since noaccel defaults to 2D, I am not sure how to go about isolating if these are symptoms of one issue or separate. Just for clarity: The attached is what I see when booting desktop iso WITHOUT nouveau.noaccel=1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
At an above linked forum thread, they were able to reproduce this bug on a quadro fx4600. They are hoping to fix it this month, but I'd guess it will be next month. The thread is now password protected. Sorry if there is any confusion, but the issue I believe you are referring to, which we do have an internal reproduction of, is not known to necessarily be the same issue as what people are describing here. We believe that some people on this thread might be affected by this issue, but as I said earlier, the reports on this thread conflict with each other on many levels, and at this time, I find it hard to believe that everybody reporting here is actually experiencing exactly the same problem. This is why, despite the seemingly similar reports here, it is important that as much detail about the specific problem each person is experiencing be provided. I should note that the reproduction we have in house of the issue that we believe may be related to some of the reports here is on a single system so far: attempts to reproduce the problem on other systems so far have failed; we do not yet understand what is specific to this system that allows it to reproduce the issue while others do not. The person who eventually reproduced the issue internally went through dozens of systems before finding the one that finally reproduced it. Also, the issue we have reproduced internally has specific reproduction steps. The reports here lack good reproduction steps. For reference, the specific reproduction steps given are: Repro steps (A): 1. Open Firefox and play video from the link http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/vidtemplate-engage-with-flash.html 2. Make it full screen 3. Just keep moving the mouse cursor over the video; after some time, the X server will crash. Repro steps (B): 1. Open 4 to 5 seperate Firefox windows and play youtube HD videos 2. Make sure to view with large player (no need to make it fullscreen) 3. After some time (say for 3 to 5min), we can observe an X server crash. This is reproducible regardless of whether or not VDPAU is used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1024750] Re: Calibre crashes the window manager on start-up
Hope the collection of data about the bug worked. In the meantime I got the old error message again: Window manages warning: Window 0x4200013 (calibre - ) sets an MWM hint indicating it isn't resizable, but sets min size 16383 x 16383 and max size 2147483647 x 2147483647; this doesn't make much sense. A window this big that doesn't fit in the graphic's card's memory seems to be a plausible reason for a crash. Still it seems like the whole X server isn't always crashed: Going to a console, killing the window manager, killing calibre (this step is important, otherwise the window manager will immediately crash again on re-launch - setting the DISPLAY variable to :0.0 and starting the window manager again usually renders the system usable again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@natew: NVIDIA does not have access to the nvnews.net forum at this time, either. I was not directly involved in the attempts to reproduce the issue described above, but as reported by the person who did reproduce this issue, we did try several systems with chips that are similar to the GeForce 285m, without success. I see that you're the original reporter of this bug on launchpad, and you have posted a backtrace from gdb captured during the crash. Thanks for that, but to make the backtrace more readable, do you think you could capture another one with debugging symbols installed for the X server, and with the DSO load base of nvidia_drv.so within X captured? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015292] Re: QT5 based applications fails with a segmentation fault with Pandaboard and the SGX driver
** Description changed: [Impact] - fill me in with explanation of severity and frequency of bug on users and justification for backporting the fix to the stable release + Segmentation fault at X11 where the randr code could use the randr screen private data without checking for null first. This happens when the X server is running with multiple screens, some of which are randr enabled and some of which are not. Applications making protocol requests to the non-randr screens can cause segfaults where the server touches the unset private structure. + + This happened initially while running Precise on a Pandaboard, as with + the driver auto-load, it starts 2 different screens, one backed up by + the PVR SGX driver, and the other by fbdev. In this case, the issue can + easily be reproduced by running any QT5 based application, as by default + it'll try to initialize the internal structures for all screens + available at the system. + + The bug can also happen on cases where the user is running one screen + with the nvidia/ati driver, and the other with fbdev (external usb video + device, for example). [Test Case] - fill me in with detailed *instructions* on how to reproduce the bug. This will be used by people later on to verify the updated package fixes the problem. - 1. - 2. - 3. - Broken Behavior: - Fixed Behavior: + How to reproduce the issue, on a Pandaboard: + 1) Install Precise at a Pandaboard; + 2) Enable the PVR SGX driver from the Additional Driver screen; + 1) Enable https://launchpad.net/~canonical-qt5-edgers/+archive/qt5-daily + 2) Install 'snowshoe-mobile' package + 3) Run snowshoe: $ PATH=/opt/qt5/bin:$PATH; snowshoe + + Broken Behavior: X11 will exit with a seg fault + Fixed Behavior: The QT5 based application (snowshoe) will open without crashing X11. [Regression Potential] - fill me in with a discussion of how regressions would typically manifest as a result of this change. It's assumed that all candidate patches are well-tested and have low overall risk of regression; but if there's an area of concern be sure to call it out so testers can check it. + Both patches are already applied at upstream, and they are simply just checking the pointers for NULL results, which would already cause a seg fault in case of NULL value, so it's safe to be applied as SRU. [Original Report] While testing Qt 5 support on Ubuntu, and validating the support for OpenGL ES2.0 with Pandaboard, I couldn't start Snowshoe (Qt 5 - webkit based browser) as it gives a segmentation fault and also breaks the X11 server (with the pvr driver). ** Patch added: debdiff covering the SRU for Precise https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-omap4-extras-graphics/+bug/1015292/+attachment/3229083/+files/xorg-server_1.11.4-0ubuntu10.7.debdiff ** Summary changed: - QT5 based applications fails with a segmentation fault with Pandaboard and the SGX driver + X11 crashes with seg fault when running QT5 based applications on a Pandaboard with the SGX driver -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015292 Title: X11 crashes with seg fault when running QT5 based applications on a Pandaboard with the SGX driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-omap4-extras-graphics/+bug/1015292/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
