[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931488] Re: Touchpad and trackpoint glitches on Lenovo Thinkpad L520

2012-08-04 Thread josip.povreslo
Hi everyone, most probably the acpi package is causing this issue. I was
thinking when this started to happening as initially when I installed
the system everything was ok, now I've removed acpi package and
everything seems ok. I'll test more, but for now it seems that removing
acpi resolved this issue.

2012-08-04 Thread Forage
I'm a bit surprised to hear that disabling Tear Free solves the issue.
I've tried that in the past, in combination with vsync, and today again,
but to no avail.

I'm using GNOME Shell, are you perhaps using Unity?

Yes I am using Unity. Not sure if you disabled Tear Free in normal or
admin mode? I had to disable it in admin mode and set the vsync setting
to On, unless application specifies also in admin mode for this
workaround to take effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573550] Re: ati radeon xpress 200M no s-video output, no tv screen detected

2012-08-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
doddo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-04 Thread markb
I just installed today's new 304.30 nvidia driver to see if this bug is
fixed but it aborted within 10 minutes:

[ 613.297325] Xorg[1563]: segfault at b4e2f000 ip b47e6960 sp bfb15cc0
error 7 in nvidia_drv.so[b4701000+6b5000]

Tried with kernel 3.5.0-8.

This 304.30 version also exhibits a new awful bug that all apps/games
which use SDL graphics turn your entire desktop blue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989347] Re: [BUG: ../../dix/getevents.c:850 in scale_to_desktop()] black screen if second monitor is connected in HDMI.

2012-08-04 Thread Andres Schwartz
I don't tried with second monitor (my card have 2 DVI and 1 HDMI
output), but it affects me when switching video modes in nvidia-settings
or any application like a game that goes full screen and so on. It don't
affect inmediately I must change a lot of times videomode and sometimes
I have luck and freezes my desktop. Xorg using 100% CPU and screen
frozen in the last draw. I cannot do Ctrl+Alt+F1 but I can login via ssh
and killall Xorg -s KILL (without -s KILL don't work).

With previous version (not precise-updates) I get the freeze inmediately
or only two or three times I change the videomode. It appears that with
this version is more stable but still have the bug.

Ubuntu 12.04 Fresh install but updated packages.

xserver-xorg-input-evdev version: 1:2.7.0ubuntu1.2 (precise-updates)

Video GeForce GT 440

NVIDIA 295.59 manually installed.

With nvidia-current I have some apparent problems of unstability so I
decided to install the recomended version from NVIDIA manually.

I have the same issue on HP630. It has Radeon HD6300 chip.
It tipically happens if I left the notebook untouched for a longer time then I
close the lid.
Typical that the fan starts to work on high speed after I losed the lid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise

2012-08-04 Thread Vincent Gerris
I have seen this issue on various intel integrated video chips.
The issue seemed to be caused by the KVM switch at first, but it did not return
to a proper resolution when it was removed from it.
I found a workaround here:
http://robert.penz.name/219/workaround-for-the-ubuntu-problem-with-kvm-switches/
In the comment someone mentiones:
1. Get a working xorg.conf file for your system using whatever method
2. Get in a terminal the modeline corresponding to your monitor and desired
resolution using :
gtf 1920 1200 60

the modeline needs to be proper for your screen and then added to the
monitor section.

I have not had this issue before, I hope something can be done to
autofix this when a monitor is plugged.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033052] [NEW] Black screen after completed boot on ASUS Eee 1101HA (xubuntu 12.04: psb_gfx/gma500: ioremap error for 0x7f66e000-0x7f671000)

2012-08-04 Thread Trond Melen
Public bug reported:

Screen is black after boot has completed. Entering teminal window (Ctrl
+ Alt + F1) works fine.

Returning to the graphical window (Ctrl + Alt + F7), the upper half og
the scrren is filled with the lower part of the background image and a
split login window while the lower half of the screen is black. The
cursor is responsive and tracks the mousepad. Moving the cursor around
makes more of the background image visible.

Workaround (sort of)): Return to the terminal window, log in and issue:

$ sudo service lightdm stop; sudo service lightdm start

This will restore the expected GUI login window. This workaround fails
after suspend.

302.xx series so waiting for them to do this to resolve this bug...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998489] Re: Fn+F11 does not control Ambient Light Sensor on HP 8560W

2012-08-04 Thread Alexander Jeckmans
Hi, I also have a HP Elitebook 8560w. I'd really like to see this work.
Apart from the ambient light sensor function key and the double-tap to
disable the touchpad everything works on this notebook.

I followed the steps on the above mentioned page.

Results are:

xev returns no result.

$ /lib/udev/findkeyboards
AT keyboard: input/event3

$ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event3
scan code: 0xDF key code: sleep (== fn+f3)
scan code: 0xEE key code: switchvideomode (== fn+f4)
scan code: 0xAE key code: volumedown (== fn+f6)
scan code: 0xBO key code: volumeup (== fn+f7)
scan code: 0x89 key code: battery (== fn+f8)
scan code: 0x92 key code: brightnessdown (== fn+f9)
scan code: 0x97 key code: brightnessup (== fn+f10)
scan code: 0xB3 key code: f23 (== fn+f11)

input.h does not define an ambient light sensor KEY_ value appropriate. Well
maybe it is the following define but I don't know:
#define KEY_BRIGHTNESS_ZERO 244  /* brightness off, use ambient */

$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/sys_vendor  $  cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name
Hewlett-Packard HP EliteBook 8560w

Looking at /lib/udev/keymaps/hewlett-packard it defines 0xB3 f23 #
FIXME: Auto brightness.

BTW, step 6 in /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt(.gz for me) states
Send [](files) to the linux-hotp...@vger.kernel.org mailing list,
so that they can be included in the next release. How would I go about
doing this?

Attached is udevadm info --export-db output.
If any other files or information is needed please let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-04 Thread quequotion
Is anyone else having this bug on a desktop PC?

I was able to work around it by blacklisting i915 and using only my add-
on graphics card.

If you have a destkop pc, and an add-on gpu (brand should be irrelevant)
could you try this?

I think the problem is in the i915 driver, but we need conclusive
testing or no progress will be made.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001007] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 hangs

2012-08-04 Thread quequotion
There are several possible duplicates of this bug against different
packages, drivers, and hardware.

My opinion is that the i915 module is broken, as blacklisting it
restored my system to a usable state.

I was having freezes related to i915 even though I wasn't using the
built-in intel GPU.

Does anyone else have this bug with an Intel combined CPU/GPU (ie sandy
bridge, etc)?

Reported against intel to hopefully get some attention from the right
people.

Oops on reporting against xf86-video-intel, although who knows? O_o

Further to my comment #207 above, today nvidia have quickly released
v304.32 driver which has fixed the blue tint across SDL apps that I
mentioned. But 304.22 still seg faulted on me after a couple of hours as
per this bug.

That second sentence above should be 304.32, not 304.22 (why is there no
