[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037419] [NEW] on first Xorg invocation meta-left-right closes X and opens console
Public bug reported: Bug description: freshly boot a computer and have Slim or XDM automatically start on start-up. After login, press meta-right on the keyboard. Expected results: Depending on window manager (for example, open desktop on the right), but should always stay in X session. Actual results: X session is closed, and I am dropped to TTY2. More information: * This does not happen if I do not use login manager (when I start X with startx). * After restarting the login manager and re-loggin in, everything works fine. Tried with these window managers: * openbox * awesome * lxde default one (not sure what LM is there) Not sure if it's relevant, but attaching Xorg.log.0. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037564] [NEW] RandR offers rotations, but fails to apply them
Public bug reported: on the system described by the attachments, the radeon driver offers all rotations and reflections (normal left inverted right x axis y axis in the output of `xrandr`) on all outputs (LVDS, VGA-0). when trying to configure a rotation or reflection on either of the outputs, independent of the resolution (tried both maximum and typical low-res in case i'd hit a size constraint), the crtc can't be configured thusly. (`xrandr --output LVDS --reflect x` co give `xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed` (or `crtc 1` for VGA-0)). for lack of understanding of how the individual parts of x play together, i'm reporting this to xserver-xorg-video-radeon. i see no reason to assume this doesn't apply upstream as well, but don't know where to report there exactly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037586] [NEW] touchpad stops working (moving the pointer doesn't work)
Public bug reported: I'm reporting here the same issue as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ac100/+bug/1035208/ -- I can't tell whether it's a linux driver bug or X.org driver bug. When I'm reporting this now, my touchpad works (moves the pointer), so the logs might not be that interesting as on the other report (at that moment, I really had the issue). Because it only partially stops to produce the reaction (no movements, but scrolling), I thought it might be a higher level bug. It also looks very similar to the description of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- synaptics/+bug/830099 . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1036114] [NEW] (usability) Apport dialog asks a question that user has no way of answering
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hey there! This is roughly how the flow went as something unknown in my system just crashed: 1) System crash detected 2) I say that I want to report it and to know the details. 3) Apport says that precise is no longer in development, and therefore I have to choose between 5 options. Now, one could object to these options being difficult to distinguish between - but that is NOT what this is about. It's even more fundamental: Even as a tech user, I am not prepared to answer the question, because Apport still hasn't told me anything about the error. Is it just the same usual error? Is it a program that I know how to debug? Users need to see the problem and the debug output before deciding what to do. ** Affects: xdiagnose (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- (usability) Apport dialog asks a question that user has no way of answering https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1036114 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Previous comment is incomplete. I am attaching a couple of files from the working system: * /etc/X11/xorg.conf - as works-XorgConf.txt * /var/log/dpkg.log - as works-DpkgLog.txt As I recall, I had worked myself into a state of one usable monitor and one all white monitor with primitive X cursor, but cursor about to move between screens. I don't know what that was about. When I left that state, the system suddenly working. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
I can't say much about the nvidia driver crashes, so this doesn't directly address your question, but let me ask - Have you tried running the open source nouveau driver, rather than nvidia's? It has improved a lot, recently. I am not running a machine with an nvidia card, right now, and I'm running Quantal anyway, so I'm not sure how the version in 12.04 compares to the current releases of the xorg nouveau server, and the driver in the kernel. Running the xorg-edgers ppa: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa might not be the smoothest long-term solution, but it might give you an idea whether nouveau can serve your needs. Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037610 Title: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1037610/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
I researched the nouveau driver and it is coming along nicely. But it is simply not sufficient for what I need this machine to do. I would go back to windows on this box before resorting to using nouveau, nothing against nouveau. However, I basically dumped gnome and unity, and am now using fluxbox. I have full 3d accel with nvidia driver 304.37 and no issues so far. In fact the performance is almost a 'order of magnitude of difference' better. Part of the reason for that is obvious. But I noticed many quirks with unity and some with gnome when using 3d. The applications when run in unity/gnome see to impact the performance of other applications, such has video hiccups, rendering slow down and the like, and noticeable stalls. That is now completely gone using fluxbox. The 3d desktop has a long ways to go in Linux. Because I am a power user/developer anyways and 3d accel is a must and a 3d desktop is not, fluxbox will be just fine. I have been stress testing the present fluxbox configuration with a full on windows 7 virtual machine, two high defs movies, tons of browser tabs, and minecraft, just to stress it. So far not a single issue. My gut tells me I am not going to have any either. However it would have been nice to have a stable unity/gnome 3d environment, hopefully you guys can resolve this bug, it effects a great number of users. Thanks for your response and will look forward to suggestions and solutions, so I can use the standard ubuntu desktop. And as stated above I had tried the edgers ppa, to no avail. So if what I have works and remains stable, then its good by windows on my favority machine! Perhaps this is not appropriate on this thread, but any suggestions on 3d graphics cards for linux, something with good 3d accel support, right now I use an nvidia 8800 GTS I carried over from my previous laptop, but I would like something in the nvidia 5xx or 6xx series or the ati radeon hd 7xxx series.
