[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037419] [NEW] on first Xorg invocation meta-left-right closes X and opens console

2012-08-16 Thread Motiejus
Public bug reported:

Bug description:
freshly boot a computer and have Slim or XDM automatically start on start-up.
After login, press meta-right on the keyboard.

Expected results:
Depending on window manager (for example, open desktop on the right), but
should always stay in X session.

Actual results:
X session is closed, and I am dropped to TTY2.

More information:
* This does not happen if I do not use login manager (when I start X with
startx).
* After restarting the login manager and re-loggin in, everything works fine.

Tried with these window managers:
* openbox
* awesome
* lxde default one (not sure what LM is there)

Not sure if it's relevant, but attaching Xorg.log.0.

2012-08-16 Thread Motiejus
Also, Tty1 is logged in with the user I logged in from the login
manager.

Some more maybe relevant info:
* Meta-left puts me to tty7, which has the log of starting programs (output of
upstart, I suppose).
* Tty2-6 are login prompts.
* Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad X60s 1702WNQ.

2012-08-16 Thread Pierrick
I checked in my syslog after many complete freeze (CTRL+ALT+Fx not
reacting), and i found this line for the 3rd time:

Aug 16 13:17:01 pierriko-dell CRON[10776]: (root) CMD ( cd / run-parts
--report /etc/cron.hourly)

at the time of the freeze, but I've nothing in my crontab:

$ crontab -l

$ ll /etc/cron.hourly

$ cat /etc/cron.hourly/.placeholder
# DO NOT EDIT OR REMOVE
# This file is a simple placeholder to keep dpkg from removing this

Any idea?

Here is 3 line of my syslog where the 2nd one is blocking:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015371] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in GetClientsForDelivery()

2012-08-16 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1036868] Re: Xorg crashes back to logon screen

2012-08-16 Thread Ian Kay
Since the updates during the second week of August I am experiencing the
same problem with a Dell XPS M1330 with an nvidia graphics card. I
removed the nvidia proprietary drivers and experience the same problem
(but the xorg.conf file might not have been consistent with this
change...)

I can make the X server crash by:
- clicking on Dash in the unity side panel
- trying to run xfig
- trying to run xfontsel
- trying to run calibre
- trying to run skype

Whether I log in using unity or gnome the symptoms are the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037564] [NEW] RandR offers rotations, but fails to apply them

2012-08-16 Thread chrysn
Public bug reported:

on the system described by the attachments, the radeon driver offers all
rotations and reflections (normal left inverted right x axis y axis in
the output of `xrandr`) on all outputs (LVDS, VGA-0).

when trying to configure a rotation or reflection on either of the
outputs, independent of the resolution (tried both maximum and typical
low-res in case i'd hit a size constraint), the crtc can't be configured
thusly. (`xrandr --output LVDS --reflect x` co give `xrandr: Configure
crtc 0 failed` (or `crtc 1` for VGA-0)).

for lack of understanding of how the individual parts of x play
together, i'm reporting this to xserver-xorg-video-radeon. i see no
reason to assume this doesn't apply upstream as well, but don't know
where to report there exactly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037586] [NEW] touchpad stops working (moving the pointer doesn't work)

2012-08-16 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
Public bug reported:

I'm reporting here the same issue as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ac100/+bug/1035208/ -- I
can't tell whether it's a linux driver bug or X.org driver bug.

When I'm reporting this now, my touchpad works (moves the pointer), so
the logs might not be that interesting as on the other report (at that
moment, I really had the issue).

Because it only partially stops to produce the reaction (no movements,
but scrolling), I thought it might be a higher level bug.

It also looks very similar to the description of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830099] Re: Mouse stopped moving - touchpad still responds

2012-08-16 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
I often encounter a very similar issue in Ubuntu 12.04 for Toshiba AC100
(ARM):

*
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1037586
* https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1035208

It has an Elantech touchpad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]

2012-08-16 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
ok -- downgrade to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.902-1 (debian
package) built with -O0 -- no crashes within a week -- so I guess it is
indeed synaptics to blame. If I find a chance I will upgrade to 1.6.0
and see if crash comes back... I would hate to do such silly bisection
but I guess it would be better than doing nothing and simply waiting
;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1036114] [NEW] (usability) Apport dialog asks a question that user has no way of answering

2012-08-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hey there!

This is roughly how the flow went as something unknown in my system just
crashed:

1) System crash detected
2) I say that I want to report it and to know the details.
3) Apport says that precise is no longer in development, and therefore I have
to choose between 5 options.

Now, one could object to these options being difficult to distinguish
between - but that is NOT what this is about.

It's even more fundamental: Even as a tech user, I am not prepared to
answer the question, because Apport still hasn't told me anything about
the error.

Is it just the same usual error? Is it a program that I know how to
debug?

Users need to see the problem and the debug output before deciding what
to do.

2012-08-16 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the

might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libglib2.0-0 version 2.33.8-1 required, but 2.33.8-1ubuntu1 is available
outdated debug symbol package for initscripts: package version

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035555] Re: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge

2012-08-16 Thread Rick Kwan
After a lot of manipulation, including switching to nouveau and back to
nvidia a few times, the problem has now disappeared. Looking at the
lastmod date on /etc/X11/xorg.conf, this should have occurred Aug-12
16:07 or later. But since I was under a crash deadline and lack of
sleep, I wasn't able to analyze exactly what had happened.

I am attaching a couple of files to capture the state of the current working
system:
* /etc/X11/xorg.conf as

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035555] Re: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge

2012-08-16 Thread Rick Kwan
Previous comment is incomplete. I am attaching a couple of files from the
working system:
* /etc/X11/xorg.conf - as works-XorgConf.txt
* /var/log/dpkg.log - as works-DpkgLog.txt

As I recall, I had worked myself into a state of one usable monitor and
one all white monitor with primitive X cursor, but cursor about to move
between screens. I don't know what that was about. When I left that
state, the system suddenly working.

So as of today (actually, at least a couple of days ago), the cursor and
displays are now working properly, but I don't know why.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037657] [NEW] Asus B121 integrated wacom tablet not recognized

2012-08-16 Thread Gianluca Della Vedova
Public bug reported:

The Asus B121/EP121 tablet comes with a Wacom digitizer/stylus, which is
currently not included in libwacom/data.
I am also including the file xinput-list which contains the output of the
xinput list command.

As a consequence, the eraser is not recognized, nor it produces a mouse
right-click when pressed.

I would like to thank you for you work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774938] Re: Erratic cursor movement when using Coordinate Transformation Matrix

2012-08-16 Thread Darryl Moore
Help. I am having this exact same issue as well. I am using 12.04 with
all updates to today, but no joy. Can anybody tell me what I can do to
make this work again? Is there a patch which actually works? Can I use
older code or code from another source which still has Swap Axes
working.

Please any help would be very much appreciated.

Christopher,

The command:
$ apport-collect -p linux 964805

Returned:
ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed. This functionality is
not available.

I followed your instructions and installed the latest available Ubuntu (Quantal
Quetzal Alpha 3) and updated all the packages.
The tv-out is still not working. Connected TV is not detected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037789] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-08-16 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for initscripts: package version
2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu13 dbgsym version 2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu11.1
outdated debug symbol package for module-init-tools: package version
3.16-1ubuntu3 dbgsym version 3.16-1ubuntu2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 306178] Re: Change tool of to tool for in package description

2012-08-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for catching this typo, you're right that it makes the package
description senseless.

It's unfortunate this got out in the LTS release, however since it is
just a spelling fix for the package description, it doesn't qualify as a
high impact bug as per the SRU guidelines:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

I'll leave the quantal bug open though; it should be fixed there.

I suppose it was the update of this package not xorg.

I had this problem as well. Upgrading the kernel to 3.4 did not help,
but downgrading to 3.15 did.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit

2012-08-16 Thread Edward Donovan
I can't say much about the nvidia driver crashes, so this doesn't
directly address your question, but let me ask -

Have you tried running the open source nouveau driver, rather than
nvidia's? It has improved a lot, recently. I am not running a machine
with an nvidia card, right now, and I'm running Quantal anyway, so I'm
not sure how the version in 12.04 compares to the current releases of
the xorg nouveau server, and the driver in the kernel.

Running the xorg-edgers ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

might not be the smoothest long-term solution, but it might give you an
idea whether nouveau can serve your needs. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit

2012-08-16 Thread GVLePage
I researched the nouveau driver and it is coming along nicely. But it is
simply not sufficient for what I need this machine to do. I would go
back to windows on this box before resorting to using nouveau, nothing
against nouveau.

However, I basically dumped gnome and unity, and am now using fluxbox. I
have full 3d accel with nvidia driver 304.37 and no issues so far. In
fact the performance is almost a 'order of magnitude of difference'
better. Part of the reason for that is obvious. But I noticed many
quirks with unity and some with gnome when using 3d. The applications
when run in unity/gnome see to impact the performance of other
applications, such has video hiccups, rendering slow down and the like,
and noticeable stalls. That is now completely gone using fluxbox. The 3d
desktop has a long ways to go in Linux.

Because I am a power user/developer anyways and 3d accel is a must and a
3d desktop is not, fluxbox will be just fine. I have been stress testing
the present fluxbox configuration with a full on windows 7 virtual
machine, two high defs movies, tons of browser tabs, and minecraft, just
to stress it. So far not a single issue. My gut tells me I am not going
to have any either.

However it would have been nice to have a stable unity/gnome 3d
environment, hopefully you guys can resolve this bug, it effects a great
number of users.

Thanks for your response and will look forward to suggestions and
solutions, so I can use the standard ubuntu desktop.

And as stated above I had tried the edgers ppa, to no avail.

So if what I have works and remains stable, then its good by windows on
my favority machine!

Perhaps this is not appropriate on this thread, but any suggestions on
3d graphics cards for linux, something with good 3d accel support, right
now I use an nvidia 8800 GTS I carried over from my previous laptop, but
I would like something in the nvidia 5xx or 6xx series or the ati radeon
hd 7xxx series.

Once again thanks! and I have some friends this effects to, some ppl I
finally convinced to go with linux and dump windows, help me out
already!

2012-08-16 Thread GVLePage
Sorry about the typos above, and I meant desktop not laptop at the end,
thx, cooking and bug reporting do not mix to well.

I will also be looking for the appropriate place to address that call
trace as well. It is obviously has to do with the nvidia driver, but
that is on boot I believe before and session is started, I am wondering
if it is an issue with the framebuffer and uefi and the nvidia driver, I
read something on that recently. Any insight would be great.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 151674] Re: compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE)

2012-08-16 Thread mirak
the problem is not only on compiz, it's more about using the composite
extension in Xorg
and now that Unity as gone gpu accelerated and that it's just bad without it,
and that gnome-shell also requires gpu acceleration, this bug needs to be
fixed.

we are in 2012 there is still no good video playback when gpu
accelleration is on, that's really bad for linux.

Holding the shift key for 8 seconds enables the SlowKeys
accessibility feature for users who need it.

If you never need it, the GNOME Keyboard Preferences should allow you to
disable keyboard shortcuts for enabling accessibility features.
