[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080588] Re: jockey suggests not installable packages on renamed stack
** Description changed: None of the nvidia and fglrx drivers can be installed through the gui, because they have a versioned depends on xserver-xorg-core. For example: # LANG=C apt-get install nvidia-experimental-304 The following packages have unmet dependencies: - nvidia-experimental-304 : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.10.99.901) + nvidia-experimental-304 : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.10.99.901) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Furthermore even some packages are shown that cannot be installed on the renamed x server, because the drivers haven't been updated to work on them. For example nvidia-current: - nvidia-current : Depends: xorg-video-abi-11 - Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.10.99.901) + nvidia-current : Depends: xorg-video-abi-11 + Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.10.99.901) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. nvidia-common needs to be updated to hide versions of nvidia drivers that won't work on x 1.13 or later, and make them installable. I think the xserver-xorg-core version check can be removed, in favor of checking the video abi version. + + Furthermore drivers should have an alternative dependency on the new + xserver ** Changed in: fglrx-installer-updates (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-experimental-310 (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080588 Title: jockey suggests not installable packages on renamed stack To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1080588/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074779] Re: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel
Yes, I've heard about that too. But it might be a different bug. As Dave said in comment #2, alusa's BootDmesg.txt shows that the system is trying, but failing, to use the nouveau driver for the NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 540M] [10de:0df4] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]). I don't know if modprobing the kernel with a blacklist is enough to stop the xserver from trying to support the hybrid graphics. If alusa can post another set of logs (by running apport-collect 1074779) after booting with the nouveau driver blacklisted as described in comment #2 that will hopefully help to clarify things. Also alusa has SandyBridge Intel graphics (third generation Core i3/i5/i7), not Intel 915GM or Intel 945G so if this bug does turn out to be in the Intel driver it's still likely to be a different bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074779 Title: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1074779/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081636] [NEW] External mouse freezes when using the keyboard
Public bug reported: I have a laptop with a touchpad and an external mouse. External mouse motion is ignored whenever a keyboard button is held down. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080808] Re: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2
@Bryce: I started having problems around Quantal Beta2, Unity, and found that moving to the nVidia proprietary driver would either eliminate the problem, or make it very rare (I did not experience this issue at all with the proprietary driver). But the proprietary driver sucks in terms of setting multiple monitors -- I could not set them up unless by trying again and again (which sounds very much like the definition of insanity). So I went back to Nouveau, and found that KDE would survive longer. So I moved to KDE. Then -- last week -- I upgraded to Raring. There I simply cannot use the 3.7.0 kernel; the 3.5.0-19 suffers the same issues on Unity, but mostly works on KDE. So, a summary (*NOTE* this seems to happen with some, but not all, nVidia cards. In my case it is a GT218 [NVS 3100M] rev a2): * nouveau on Quantal (Unity) fails at least once a day with the errors above; failure requires machine to be power-cycled; no local access is possible * nouveau on Quantal (KDE) is usable; similar failures are mostly observed when logging in, and require a power-cycle * nouveau on Raring (Unity or KDE) fails during login, *always*. Raring works if booted with kernel 3.5.0-19 I will check the upstream kernels. ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080808 Title: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1080808/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi, I've just installed a fresh version of 12.04 on my machine and am having terrible problems with the screen flickering/going blank for several seconds as well (it was fine with the previous 10.04 version). lspci lists the graphics card as: 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 295] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) I'm using the kernel: 3.2.0-33-generic and haven't installed any additional drivers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080808] Re: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2
(all comments apply when logging in from a fresh reboot; on all cases both monitors show the login screen (lightdm-kde-greeter) Ubuntu kernel 3.7.0-3: * Unity -- both monitors get the screen (almost) correctly painted; pointer moves, but nothing else can be done. The launcher is painted, with a gray/silver background, does not hide and does not respond to clicks. It does take a few minutes to reach that point * KDE -- only the laptop monitor got active; KDE initialisation stopped at the last step; system locally unresponsive. Ubuntu kernel 3.7.0-2: It does take a few minutes to reach that point * Unity -- both monitors are active; mouse is initially quite sluggish, then not working; otherwise system is locally unresponsive; after a while, X crashes, and the greeter is redisplayed * KDE --only the laptop monitor is active; KDE initialisation stopped at the first step; system is not locally responsive; It does take a few minutes to reach that point Ubuntu kernel 3.5.0-19: * Unity KDE -- failures as in the previous comment. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Hello, Guys! MINT is based off Ubuntu. Mint is nothing less than Ubuntu with another Desktop Environment (CInnamon) and some tweaked options to make it look like Microsoft Windows. Don't Fancy about it being more robust or life-savy! For the freezing issue, I had it under 12.04 AMD64 (Complete freezing and no TTY). My problem was solved eventually by resetting Unity and Compiz: $ unity --reset $ unity --replace $ compiz --replace I am not yet sure it was the cure but my freeze disappeared right away. I am running Both 12.04 and 12.10 on the same machine (AMD64) and they both work just fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Well yeah, but Ubuntu without Unity and Compiz and it is stable. I had constant freezes with 12.04 64bit with Intel processor. Freezes persisted with every fix until I changed the kernal. Then with subsiquent updates from Ubuntu not matching the kernal I eventually had other little issues, nothing a big deal but didn't want to mess with it anymore seems it wasn't how it was supposed to be. Stability also increased with dumping neuvo(sp) drivers and Nvidia finally fixing theirs. I'm not bashing Ubuntu, but there is definitely a problem that shouldn't be there. I will stay with Mint until it's sorted out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
