[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158611] Re: 12.10 New build. No unity or time bar
OK, I think I've got a cause, but not a solution as yet. I've just installed 13.04 onto a new partition, with a new, seperate /home - I'll call it Temp-home(TH) to save typing On previous installs of Ubuntu, I use an existing seperate /home, I'll call it PH to save typing. When 13.04 starts using TH, Unity works and I get a status bar. When I add PH to /etc/fstab, Unity does'nt work and status bar is missing. Take PH out of /etc/fstab and Unity/status bar are fine. Not enough room to merege PH into TH. Looks like there's something within PH that's conflicting and stopping Unity/ status bar from appearing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1158611 Title: 12.10 New build. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629244] Re: DisplayLink driver unloads when Screen 0 is handled by Nvidia driver
Thank you very much, I have a Sony Vaio with Nvidia video card and I can run 2 monitors off it (TwinView or Xinerama via Nvidia configuration). I also have 2 USB adapters to run two additional monitors. I can do this on Windows easily, but the laptop suffers due to Windows size. I tried your advice and have set the two monitors driven by the Nvidia card as screen2 and screen3and the DL monitors as screen0 and screen1 and disabled Twinview and only used Xinerama. All monitors are found under X (except the one using the laptop's VGA port), but there is no X11 starting on any of them. Is it possible to have this configuration working? I would like to use X11 on all of them, but there is a segmentation error 0x41a0 in the log file and it drops out. Anybody any ideas? Fairly recent, I only changed the default for SNA so you would only have experienced the change on the switch in raring. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173968] [NEW] Both Firefox and Chrome consuming 70% CPU without a reason at the same time
Public bug reported: Suddenly my laptop's cooler fan began spinning very fast while the system was completely idle, I wan't even using it though I had a few programs opened. So I ran top, and I saw the Chrome and Firefox processes were alternatively consuming 70% CPU each all the time. There were only static idle pages open, no youtube video, nothing of that kind, no script running. I closed Firefox and Chrome kept consuming 70% cpu, then I closed Chrome and it obviously stopped. It would be a very strange coincidence that it was a bug in both browsers manifesting itself at the very same time, so that's why I'm reporting this against xorg: it's almost surely something at the system level, and I strongly suspect something graphical (perhaps nvidia- related? as the broken nvidia driver's bugs are usually rensponsible of most of Ubuntu's tremendous instability). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] [NEW] System crashes with open-source radeon driver
Public bug reported: I have a Dell StudioXPS 1640 with an ATI Radeon HD 3670. Unter Ubuntu 12.04, I was able to use the proprietary fglrx driver. However, since the new xserver-xorg introduced in Ubuntu 12.10, I am unable to use the proprietary driver anymore, because ATI stopped support for the graphics card in the newer fglrx-versions compatible with the new xserver. I now upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 and tried to get the radeon open-source driver to work. When I activate the driver by installing the xserver- xorg-video-radeon package, the monitor goes dark, flickers once a few seconds later and the system does not react anymore - the only thing still working is the poweroff button. I did try several custom xorg.conf files (minimalistic copy of the fallback with the radeon driver specified, the same with deactivated acceleration and a bigger one with specific screen modes, etc) and the dbus version without any xorg.conf file - all with the same result. The vesa-driver is unable to detect my monitor correctly and leaves me with 1440x960, which is bad for my monitor, because it is not my native resolution and fuzzy. I'm now stuck with a generic kernel-mode setting, which has my native resolution, but is sluggish and unusable. I do not want to be stuck with Ubuntu 12.04 and an unsupported fglrx driver for the next year or so (until I get a new laptop). Any hints and help greatly appreciated. Grub appears (dual boot), i choose ubuntu, loading,.. and one of my screen is entirely black (tv samsung hdmi) and the other shows coupure 75/60hz (lg flatron w1941s) i managed to install fglrx (blinded) (radeon hd 6570) but fglrx shows an icon in the bottomright of both screen unsupported hardware. If i call back the free driver, this one doesn't detect my screens and show a single resolution that don't fit with no other options. Now i will try the fglrx-update driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174135] [NEW] Xorg freeze/performance problem
Public bug reported: I installed Raring about a week ago on my main desktop - just before it went live and last night was the first time I've rebooted since I installed. Not sure what exactly the issue is that is causing the lockup/performance issue but the symptoms are basically the following... Boot up - seems fine Login - during the transition from the login screen to the actual desktop/Unity shell there's a large pixelated image being displayed Desktop action - opening/closing any window is just dead slow - so much so that you can see the windows coming through the normal transitions from not there to fully there in about 4-5 steps. Programs themselves operate normally once open. After about 5-30 minutes the screen just freezes. I switched to VT1 and I'm getting a ton of messages stating... [drm:radeon_cs_ib_chunk] *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB ! ...just being spewed out on the console. Have to actually physically power cycle the machine from this point. Not exactly sure what component the issue is related to - could be compiz, xserver-xorg, etc. no idea. I think this is related to bug 1100286. I cannot leave the system in this state for very long as I need it for work purposes. I have another system to fall back to in a pinch, but its not ideal. If I don't hear back on this bug from someone by the end of the day on Monday I'm going to try re-imaging the system and see if that can at least get me some progress.
