[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1048455] Re: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2014-01-05 Thread Benjamin Kaiser
Hi Christopher,

Thank you for following this up. I do not use my macbook mentioned for
much anymore (it doesn't have Ubuntu on it anymore). But from my gained
knowledge and experience on Linux in the past year an a bit I would
have to say that this bug I would put down to the nVidia drivers at the
time. Also the graphics card in the laptop would have been 2007-2008 so
it was rather old and low-end. As such I would mark this as closed as it
has most likely been fixed by nVidia's newest drivers (and other
versions of software improving over time also).

Kind regards,
Ben Kaiser

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197437] [NEW] Laptop monitor display incorrectly after plug in an external monitor

2014-01-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After I plug in a external monitor to my laptop, and change some display
settings, the screen of the laptop displays abnormal.

A possible reason of this issue is about change resolution to a un-fit
resolution, such as from 1366x768 to 640x480. Or change refresh rate to
some strange number, such 59Hz.

Since all behaviour is normal if without external monitor, thus this may be due
to two monitors can't be sync together. I think such changes should be allow to
sufficient user's
preference.

Steps to repeat:
1. plug in an external monitor
2. Open Display Preference Application on the laptop
3. Change resolution from 1366x768 to 640x480
4. Change refresh rate to 59Hz

What happens:
Laptop screen outputs some garbage data on the right-upper part, some part of
screen didn't display correctly.

What should happen:
Any changes about resolution or refresh rate should display correctly after
plug in a external monitor.

I'm using a freshly installed Ubuntu 13.10. As soon as I click on a
different user I want to switch to in the gearbox menu I get a black
screen and nothing else is happening. I'm still able to SSH to that box
and top does not show any process taking 100% CPU. Alt+sysrq+b is able

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247189] Re: [Acer Aspire 5755G] Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Adam Niedling, thank you for providing the requested information. As per your
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/161645392/CurrentDmesg.txt :
[6.254915] [drm] Wrong MCH_SSKPD value: 0x16040307
[6.254918] [drm] This can cause pipe underruns and display issues.
[6.254919] [drm] Please upgrade your BIOS to fix this

Given you are running currently running the latest BIOS available for
your model, it would be helpful if you engaged Acer via your SNID to
inquire about an updated BIOS being made available.

However, let this not be a show stopper in in finding a WORKAROUND
without having to disable the nvidia card.

Given no call trace was found in your dmesg, could you please capture
the xorg back trace following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1230011] Re: Center program Ubuntu 13.04 not open

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Aracati Jorge de Carvalho Cruz, thank you for taking the time to report
this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on
this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235247] Re: ????

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Augusto Sterpa, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping
to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because
your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1239247] Re: intel (haswell) mouse cursor invisible after resume

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
John Clemens, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
could you please run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

If reproducible, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ?

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.3.13-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1264270] Re: Regular black screens since automatic kernel upgrade

2014-01-05 Thread Aurosutru
Chris, I did update the BIOS to 407 last month after reading the
instructions in the Ubuntu documentation that BIOS upgrades are
necessary even if a system is stable in Windows, which this system is.
The ASUS BIOS update software in Windows was used. I had high hopes
the BIOS upgrade might cure this problem, but it persists, though it has
diminished. Maybe the upgrade to 3.8.0-35 has helped too. Reverting to
3.8.0-33 gives a stable system.

Here is the output from sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode
-s bios-release-date

K55A.407

** Description changed:

- I've moved my main machine from an ASUS 1001P netbook to a Lenovo
- Thinkpad X200 Tablet and continue to experience high CPU load from Xorg.
- In case of the 1001P , I had reported this as bug 1087535. I am opening
- a new ticket since the underlying hardware changed. When moving to the
- new machine I simply swapped the HD out of the old and into the new
- machine. I am still trying to figure out what is causing these high
- loads of 100% for one core. It seems to me that network activity is a
- contributing factor, particularly if the network is unstable. I believe
- many open tabs in FF lead to this situation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241523] Re: Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 amd64 Anymations Flickering

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
cyberalex4life, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1264270] Re: Regular black screens since automatic kernel upgrade

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Aurosutru, thank you for updating your BIOS. Could you please confirm
this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
. If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

   Fix Committed

 Bug description:
   Hey guys,

I don't which update caused my Ubuntu not to show anything, not even
the starting screen, all I get is a black screen, I can see that it's
loading because I see my HDD light blinking and my WiFi light turn on,
but nothing on the screen itself.

It may be X or the drivers for the following Video cards (this is what
   my laptop has):

   AMD Radeon HD 7690M
   AMD Radeon HD 6620G

I know the screen is fine because I just re-installed Windows to send
