[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1048455] Re: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11
Hi Christopher, Thank you for following this up. I do not use my macbook mentioned for much anymore (it doesn't have Ubuntu on it anymore). But from my gained knowledge and experience on Linux in the past year an a bit I would have to say that this bug I would put down to the nVidia drivers at the time. Also the graphics card in the laptop would have been 2007-2008 so it was rather old and low-end. As such I would mark this as closed as it has most likely been fixed by nVidia's newest drivers (and other versions of software improving over time also). You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197437] [NEW] Laptop monitor display incorrectly after plug in an external monitor
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After I plug in a external monitor to my laptop, and change some display settings, the screen of the laptop displays abnormal. A possible reason of this issue is about change resolution to a un-fit resolution, such as from 1366x768 to 640x480. Or change refresh rate to some strange number, such 59Hz. Since all behaviour is normal if without external monitor, thus this may be due to two monitors can't be sync together. I think such changes should be allow to sufficient user's preference. Steps to repeat: 1. plug in an external monitor 2. Open Display Preference Application on the laptop 3. Change resolution from 1366x768 to 640x480 4. Change refresh rate to 59Hz What happens: Laptop screen outputs some garbage data on the right-upper part, some part of screen didn't display correctly. What should happen: Any changes about resolution or refresh rate should display correctly after plug in a external monitor. Aracati Jorge de Carvalho Cruz, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. Augusto Sterpa, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1264270] Re: Regular black screens since automatic kernel upgrade
Chris, I did update the BIOS to 407 last month after reading the instructions in the Ubuntu documentation that BIOS upgrades are necessary even if a system is stable in Windows, which this system is. The ASUS BIOS update software in Windows was used. I had high hopes the BIOS upgrade might cure this problem, but it persists, though it has diminished. Maybe the upgrade to 3.8.0-35 has helped too. Reverting to 3.8.0-33 gives a stable system. Here is the output from sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date K55A.407 12/25/2012 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1264270 Title: Regular black screens since automatic kernel upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1264270/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc7 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed.
