[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-04-19 Thread Jan Kasik
Same with Xubuntu 14.04 on Lenovo X200 and Acer Extensa 5235 both with
Intel chipsets. But if I connect external monitor and close the lid,
laptop wakes up on that monitor with no problem. I checked the display
settings after that and notebook display is disabled here (on X200).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309927] [NEW] LTS upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 deleted xorg.conf file completely

2014-04-19 Thread Michael Lueck
Public bug reported:

I just completed the LTS upgrade of Xubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04. Upon
rebooting, my notebook lost its dual display behavior of cloning the LCD
to the external display.

Researching, I found no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in place.

Fortunately I make backups as I need different configuration settings
based on my exact hardware set up configuration. I merely copied the
correct template back to xorg.conf, IPL, and the display is now working
as expected in this hardware configuration.

Aparently, conf files from Xubuntu 12.04 were still correct as I did not
make any changes. The xorg.conf file was mistakenly removed during the
LTS upgrade process.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2014-04-19 Thread Nicolas Albert
After updating from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04.

I have a laptop with an Intel graphic card and a VGA monitor plugged. I
use Gnome3 but same behavior with Unity.

 * lightdm dual screen perfect
 * login to my session : IHM freeze, mouse flickering left/right/left/right …
and no VGA monitor
 * just unplug the VGA : works fine on my laptop screen directly
 * login to my wife session : everything works !

I got crazy many minutes and I have suspected xrandr : I seen in a log
file a refresh rate flickering.

I finaly find a ~/.config/monitors.xml and I replace mine by my wife
version : problem solved!

I don't have time to investigate more, but I hope it could help you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300669] Re: X Server fails to start with nvidia-331 in 14.04

2014-04-19 Thread iuuuuan
1.) Do you happen to have bumblebee installed ?

Try to remove bumblebee with purge option.
sudo apt-get remove --purge bumblebee*

If it is not install check in folder /etc/modprobe.d for file bumblebee.conf.
If exists delete it (contains blacklist option for nvidia)
rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf

Bumblebee blacklists nvidia driver.

After that install nvidia-331 driver and nvida-prime package:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-updates nvidia-prime

Reboot

BTW Sergey, I'm a bit surprised that you want a vote to fix something
that people complain about, when you didn't need any vote to break it in
 the first place...

Would you need a vote, I suggest that you put a survey system online by
yourself on any web page that you'd like (so you know the vote is
impartial), and we let people know about it...

If you asks for a vote, it sounds logical that you organize it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309919] Re: Xorg causing 100% cpu load

2014-04-19 Thread Jochen Barth
** Description changed:

+ EDIT2: it seems that even the cpu graph in the top bar produces enough load
to get Xorg with Matrox G450 (PCI) busy.
+ Without cpu graph responsiveness is still far slower than with 13.10.
+
EDIT: after deleting almost every file+directory which starts with .
in my home directory, this problem has vanished, but overall performance
  seems slower than with 13.10.

  Kind regards,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310038] [NEW] Screen switches off some seconds after wake up from suspend

2014-04-19 Thread Photon
Public bug reported:

I was running Xubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X40 which has an Intel 855GM
graphics chip. On 12.04 suspend worked flawlessly. Yesterday I upgraded
to 14.04 and this broke suspend. The problem is like this: I close the
lid, the laptop goes to sleep. After some time I open the lid, the
screen goes on and if I'm fast I can even start typing in the password.
However, some seconds later the screen switches off again, though I can
hear that the system continues working. I can still switch to any TTY,
only X has no graphical output. If I kill X from TTY, it starts again, I
can login and then the system works as expected. In /var/log/Xorg.0.log
I see following lines:

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
(II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch
(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch

which exactly fits to my observations: On lid close the screen goes off,
on opening the lid it goes on and then after some seconds off again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310064] [NEW] radeon driver no longer detects video card (RV770) w/ ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-19 Thread mchngl84
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade, the computer crashed at the login screen where it
froze. I could not switch to a VT, login via SSH, or safer reboot via
the magic keys: RESIUB.

Anyway - after a hard reboot, I noticed the graphics setup had changed.
I have a dual monitor setup that with a 22 1920x1080 TV and 17
1280x1024 monitor. For some reason the 1920x1080 display likes to use an
odd resolution (1776x1000) for some signals like the one the RV770 was
pumping out cloned for both monitors of 1280x1024. That's even though
the xorg.conf explicitly stated dual monitor setup. At some point after
upgrade to 14.04 and before my second attempt to run Xorg, the original
xorg.conf file was renamed (and not replaced) with the date added on the
end.

The second run of Xorg: The graphic output looked the same with cloned
1280x1024. I noticed that even though I restored my xorg.conf file, it
proceeded to unload radeon driver and load FBDEV with LLVM pipe.

I see no obvious reason from the log files while radeon was unloaded and
not used for this card which is on it's support list.

??

Thanks much.

including of course Nicolas Mailhot. I am an amateur and I am conscious
that I rely entirely on the work of devoted paid and unpaid
professionals.

But in this case, I must crudely say, because it was hinted that we
should have a vote: the vote already happened, here in Bugzilla, and in
Launchpad, and elsewhere in many forums. The result obviously is:
Nicolas Mailhot against the rest of the world.

I think the rest of the world constitutes a majority compared to Nicolas
Mailhot alone. Therefore one should immediately revert to the last good
version with two Control keys.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310064] Re: radeon driver no longer detects video card (RV770) w/ ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-19 Thread mchngl84
** Description changed:

- I see no obvious reason from the log files while radeon was unloaded and
- not used for this card which is on it's support list.
-
- ??
+ I see no obvious reason from the log files why radeon was unloaded and
+ not used for this card which is on it's support list still. ??

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278012] Re: tearing with vsync enabled

2014-04-19 Thread Timo Jyrinki
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1280665 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280665

If you don't mind, I'd mark this bug as duplicate of (later filed) bug
#1280665 which correctly attributes the bug to be in SDL 1.2 which
enables backingstore wrongly in composited environment (if I understood
correctly).

Please give out your test result there on the PPA version, and if I
incorrectly marked this as duplicate please remove the duplicate status.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1280665
libsdl1.2 always uses backingstore which causes tearing in modern X servers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246215] Re: Ubuntu 13.10, wrong settings for Apple (mouse) touchpad in Macbook 4, 1

2014-04-19 Thread Clinton
In eventcomm.c:

static struct model_lookup_t model_lookup_table[] = {
{0x0002, 0x0007, 0x0007, MODEL_SYNAPTICS},
{0x0002, 0x0008, 0x0008, MODEL_ALPS},
{0x05ac, PRODUCT_ANY, 0x222, MODEL_APPLETOUCH},
{0x05ac, 0x223, PRODUCT_ANY, MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK},
{0x0002, 0x000e, 0x000e, MODEL_ELANTECH},
{0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0}
};

http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids lists 0x222 as the last aluminum
keyboard and 0x223 forward are ostensibly fancier.

However, the Macbook 3,1 (which uses appletouch) reports as 0x5ac
0x229, which puts it in the MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK range instead of
MODEL_APPLETOUCH. (Also, the website above seems to think 0x229
indicates a Macbook Pro, which it is not. That might explain some of the
confusion.)

Elsewhere on the internet I found a couple other values that ostensibly
fall after 0x223 that loaded appletouch instead of bcm5974 - 0x22a a few
times, but also a single reference to 0x30b. I'm not sure what 0x30b is.
0x22a looks like it's probably a Macbook ?,1.

Could we just look at what driver we're loading instead of trying to
figure it out from the vendor/product id? Appletouch = old behavior,
bcm5974 = new.

If not, I propose moving the cutoff to =0x22b for MODEL_APPLETOUCH and
=0x230 for MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-04-19 Thread Adam
Same issue on an Lenovo ThinkPad T510 (i7 with nvidia NVS 3100M with
nvidia 331 drivers) running XFCE (Xubuntu). It seems as if light locker
in combination with dbus causes the problem.

Thank you Kacper for the hint. I turned off 'lock on suspend' in the
light locker settings. This is not what we want, but an exceptable work
around.

I wonder if they actually tested suspend/resume before releasing 14.04
if something like this happens?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-04-19 Thread Remi
(In reply to comment #60)
Gentlemen, I am really stuck at that point.

Allow me to sum it up.

 - Nicolas is the sole advocate of having Control_R mapped to Level5.
 - The rest of us want to go back to having both left and right Control
behaving the same way.

I'm not quite sure how you want us to organize a vote or poll. French
Linux users (just like non-French ones) use a variety of distributions
(which, BTW, may not ship the changed version of xkeyboard-config), and
may not even all use a French keyboard (I'd say roughly half of my
Linux-using friends and coworkers are using US qwerty layouts or mac
layouts).

Since apparently no hardware maker is following ISO standards, may I
suggest creating new layouts such as oss-iso with Nicolas' changes?

As one of Gentoo's X11 maintainers, I am really tempted to just revert
that change downstream. The few French users I have talked to were just
as surprised as I was to lose their Control_R key for no apparent
reason.

I could organize a poll on my blog but being aggregated only on Planet
Gentoo, I wouldn't give much credit to any numbers I could find.

** Description changed:

- I just Installed Ubuntu 14.04 RC on an old Acer Aspire 3003WLMi, after a
- very successful install on a Dell Inspiron 6000.
+ I just Installed Ubuntu 14.04 RC on an old Acer Aspire 3003WLMi and it
+ never powers off when shutdown or reboot is requested. Every thing
+ seems stopped. but the machine remains powered and the shutdown
+ screens continue to run with its animation.

- Both machines seems to have the same capabilities.
-
- BUT :
-
- 1- NO wifi detected on the ACER. (OK on the Dell)
- My first installation hang on kernel configuration for the wifi driver.
- I found on a blog that un-checking the use proprietary modules solved
the problem and allowed the installation
-
- 2- Machine completely unresponsive with Unity (3D accelerator seems absent)
but completely functional with Xubuntu desktop)
- (Surprisingly smooth on the Dell)
-
- 3- NEVER power off when shutdown or reboot is requested.
- Every thing seems stopped. but the machine remains powered and the
shutdown screens continue to run with its animation
-
- I think that this is caused by missing specific/proprietary drivers, BUT when
I check for proprietary drivers none are proposed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310064] Re: radeon driver no longer detects video card (RV770) w/ ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-19 Thread mchngl84
** Description changed:

After the upgrade, the computer crashed at the login screen where it
froze. I could not switch to a VT, login via SSH, or safer reboot via
  the magic keys: RESIUB.

Anyway - after a hard reboot, I noticed the graphics setup had changed.
- I have a dual monitor setup that with a 22 1920x1080 TV and 17
- 1280x1024 monitor. For some reason the 1920x1080 display likes to use an
- odd resolution (1776x1000) for some signals like the one the RV770 was
- pumping out cloned for both monitors of 1280x1024.
+ It was obvious because of the way the 22 handles resolutions or signals
+ it doesn't like. It's cloning the only resolution it has made avaialble:
+ 1280x1024.

At some point after upgrade to 14.04 and before my second attempt to run
Xorg, the original xorg.conf file was renamed (and not replaced) with
- the date added on the end.
+ the date added on the end. I replaced it with the original xorg and
+ eventually tired different things to fix it by commenting certain lines.

The second run of Xorg: The graphic output looked the same with cloned
1280x1024. I noticed that even though I restored my xorg.conf file, it
- proceeded to unload radeon driver and load FBDEV with LLVM pipe.
+ proceeded to unload radeon driver and load FBDEV with LLVM pipe. Having
+ xorg.conf and not having it produces the same resutlts.

  The output of xrandr is:

  QUOTE
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
  Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 1024, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024
  default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm
     1280x1024 77.0*

I see no obvious reason from the log files why radeon was unloaded and
not used for this card which is on the supported list still. Any ideas?

  Thanks much.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310064] Re: radeon driver no longer detects video card (RV770) w/ ubuntu 14.04

2014-04-19 Thread mchngl84
Update:

I disconnected one of the monitors (the 17 1280x1024) and now the
radeon driver is driving the display.

It's running fullscreen at max resolution but Xorg will fall back to
fbdev if I plug the monitor back in and restart Xorg.

2014-04-19 Thread mchngl84
Update2:

I tried connecting the cable for the 17 monitor and ran my usual
command of xrander to get dual monitors:

QUOTE

/QUOTE

Good news, it actually setup dual displays with extended desktop as it
usually did ...

... but the computer was frozen. I rebooted and disconnected the 17
monitor's cable again. :(

xrandr gives the following - taunting me:

QUOTE

So, in my estimation, it's definitely a radeon driver issue and not
Xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android

2014-04-19 Thread yagolf
Kudos to getting right-click behaviour like in Windows/Android. I manage to get
a near to natural timing of the click using .22sec as the secondary click
timing (using dconf). This behaviour is still really unnatural because you
never know when you get it right until you lift up the finger.
I know you developers work really hard patching up stuff and writing new and
cleaner code, but touchscreens have been out for a while and this elemental
behaviour has not been address yet...

btw, I'm on an Acer V7 running Ubuntu 14.04 64bit (ELAN touchscreen)

Thanks for your work and I hope we get a fix real soon!

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've got a problem with 14.04 on a machine with an ATI Radeon HD 7750
after upgrading from 13.10. With the opensource drivers it shows garbled

don't even get to the desktop after logging in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2014-04-19 Thread Ichigo
Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately that won't work. We have a
roaming profile (LDAP+NFS), so basically that monitors.xml file will be
used no matter what desktop environment I use; the triple screen setup
works just fine in 12.04 and Mint Maya but not on Trusty.

The mouse problem becomes worse when I access windows app through Citrix
receiver (XenApp). When I mouse over the windows app, the mouse pointer
becomes blurry, and part of the background UI (be it desktop wallpaper,
browser, etc..) shows. I wish I could send a video/screen shot to show
you guys how horrible it was.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310170] [NEW] fglrx DRI initialization fails on Radeon HD 7660G (Trinity)

2014-04-19 Thread S. Christian Collins
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Precise to Trusty, I can no longer activate OpenGL
desktop effects in KDE. Upon investigating, I find the following in the
Xorg.log file:

[30.414] (EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed. Probably kernel module
missing or incompatible.
[30.414] (WW) fglrx(0):
***
[30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed
  *
[30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * kernel module (fglrx.ko) may be missing or
incompatible *
[30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * 2D and 3D acceleration disabled
  *
[30.414] (WW) fglrx(0):
***

glxinfo returns:
name of display: :0
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

and fglrxinfo returns:
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

Purging fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle and reinstalling the driver doesn't fix
anything. The previous driver on Ubuntu Precise worked fine (fglrx
12.104, if I recall).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty

2014-04-19 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
@Pali: I am glad it worked for you, but this is not an acceptable
solution for less technical users who just want Ubuntu to work straight
after boot.

I currently dual boot with Debian unstable, which is running kernel
3.13, mesa 10.1, xorg 1.15 and GNOME 3, and I have none of these
problems. Both the opensource and proprietary drivers worked painlessly.

I don't know whether the probblem comes from Unity itself or the patched
kernel that Ubuntu runs, but, as of today, I cannot use the opensource
driver because of this bug and cannot use the proprietary driver because
Unity refuses to load (same as reported here:
http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?93838-Ubuntu-14-04-Kernel-3-13
-and-AMD-Catalyst-issue). The only option that works is with nomodeset
(Unity running software acceleration), great !
