[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309927] [NEW] LTS upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 deleted xorg.conf file completely
Public bug reported: I just completed the LTS upgrade of Xubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04. Upon rebooting, my notebook lost its dual display behavior of cloning the LCD to the external display. Researching, I found no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in place. Fortunately I make backups as I need different configuration settings based on my exact hardware set up configuration. I merely copied the correct template back to xorg.conf, IPL, and the display is now working as expected in this hardware configuration. Aparently, conf files from Xubuntu 12.04 were still correct as I did not make any changes. The xorg.conf file was mistakenly removed during the LTS upgrade process. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309927 Title: LTS upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 deleted xorg.conf file completely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173/+bug/1309927/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310038] [NEW] Screen switches off some seconds after wake up from suspend
Public bug reported: I was running Xubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X40 which has an Intel 855GM graphics chip. On 12.04 suspend worked flawlessly. Yesterday I upgraded to 14.04 and this broke suspend. The problem is like this: I close the lid, the laptop goes to sleep. After some time I open the lid, the screen goes on and if I'm fast I can even start typing in the password. However, some seconds later the screen switches off again, though I can hear that the system continues working. I can still switch to any TTY, only X has no graphical output. If I kill X from TTY, it starts again, I can login and then the system works as expected. In /var/log/Xorg.0.log I see following lines: (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch (II) AIGLX: Resuming AIGLX clients after VT switch (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch which exactly fits to my observations: On lid close the screen goes off, on opening the lid it goes on and then after some seconds off again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310064] [NEW] radeon driver no longer detects video card (RV770) w/ ubuntu 14.04
Public bug reported: After the upgrade, the computer crashed at the login screen where it froze. I could not switch to a VT, login via SSH, or safer reboot via the magic keys: RESIUB. Anyway - after a hard reboot, I noticed the graphics setup had changed. I have a dual monitor setup that with a 22 1920x1080 TV and 17 1280x1024 monitor. For some reason the 1920x1080 display likes to use an odd resolution (1776x1000) for some signals like the one the RV770 was pumping out cloned for both monitors of 1280x1024. That's even though the xorg.conf explicitly stated dual monitor setup. At some point after upgrade to 14.04 and before my second attempt to run Xorg, the original xorg.conf file was renamed (and not replaced) with the date added on the end. The second run of Xorg: The graphic output looked the same with cloned 1280x1024. I noticed that even though I restored my xorg.conf file, it proceeded to unload radeon driver and load FBDEV with LLVM pipe. I see no obvious reason from the log files while radeon was unloaded and not used for this card which is on it's support list. ?? Thanks much. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]
I feel extremely uneasy because I am a user of free software and I am full of respect and gratitude for the people who make this possible, including of course Nicolas Mailhot. I am an amateur and I am conscious that I rely entirely on the work of devoted paid and unpaid professionals. But in this case, I must crudely say, because it was hinted that we should have a vote: the vote already happened, here in Bugzilla, and in Launchpad, and elsewhere in many forums. The result obviously is: Nicolas Mailhot against the rest of the world. I think the rest of the world constitutes a majority compared to Nicolas Mailhot alone. ** Description changed: After the upgrade, the computer crashed at the login screen where it froze. - I see no obvious reason from the log files while radeon was unloaded and - not used for this card which is on it's support list. - - ?? + I see no obvious reason from the log files why radeon was unloaded and + not used for this card which is on it's support list still. ?? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246215] Re: Ubuntu 13.10, wrong settings for Apple (mouse) touchpad in Macbook 4, 1
In eventcomm.c: static struct model_lookup_t model_lookup_table[] = { {0x0002, 0x0007, 0x0007, MODEL_SYNAPTICS}, {0x0002, 0x0008, 0x0008, MODEL_ALPS}, {0x05ac, PRODUCT_ANY, 0x222, MODEL_APPLETOUCH}, {0x05ac, 0x223, PRODUCT_ANY, MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK}, {0x0002, 0x000e, 0x000e, MODEL_ELANTECH}, {0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0} }; http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids lists 0x222 as the last aluminum keyboard and 0x223 forward are ostensibly fancier. However, the Macbook 3,1 (which uses appletouch) reports as 0x5ac 0x229, which puts it in the MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK range instead of MODEL_APPLETOUCH. (Also, the website above seems to think 0x229 indicates a Macbook Pro, which it is not. That might explain some of the confusion.) Elsewhere on the internet I found a couple other values that ostensibly fall after 0x223 that loaded appletouch instead of bcm5974 - 0x22a a few times, but also a single reference to 0x30b. I'm not sure what 0x30b is. 0x22a looks like it's probably a Macbook ?,1. Could we just look at what driver we're loading instead of trying to figure it out from the vendor/product id? Appletouch = old behavior, bcm5974 = new. If not, I propose moving the cutoff to =0x22b for MODEL_APPLETOUCH and =0x230 for MODEL_UNIBODY_MACBOOK. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246215 Title: Ubuntu 13.10, wrong settings for Apple (mouse) touchpad in Macbook 4,1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1246215/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Same issue on an Lenovo ThinkPad T510 (i7 with nvidia NVS 3100M with nvidia 331 drivers) running XFCE (Xubuntu). It seems as if light locker in combination with dbus causes the problem. Thank you Kacper for the hint. I turned off 'lock on suspend' in the light locker settings. This is not what we want, but an exceptable work around. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]
(In reply to comment #60) Gentlemen, I am really stuck at that point. Allow me to sum it up. - Nicolas is the sole advocate of having Control_R mapped to Level5. - The rest of us want to go back to having both left and right Control behaving the same way. I'm not quite sure how you want us to organize a vote or poll. French Linux users (just like non-French ones) use a variety of distributions (which, BTW, may not ship the changed version of xkeyboard-config), and may not even all use a French keyboard (I'd say roughly half of my Linux-using friends and coworkers are using US qwerty layouts or mac layouts). Since apparently no hardware maker is following ISO standards, may I suggest creating new layouts such as oss-iso with Nicolas' changes? As one of Gentoo's X11 maintainers, I am really tempted to just revert that change downstream. The few French users I have talked to were just as surprised as I was to lose their Control_R key for no apparent reason. I could organize a poll on my blog but being aggregated only on Planet Gentoo, I wouldn't give much credit to any numbers I could find. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013881 Title: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android
Kudos to getting right-click behaviour like in Windows/Android. I manage to get a near to natural timing of the click using .22sec as the secondary click timing (using dconf). This behaviour is still really unnatural because you never know when you get it right until you lift up the finger. I know you developers work really hard patching up stuff and writing new and cleaner code, but touchscreens have been out for a while and this elemental behaviour has not been address yet... btw, I'm on an Acer V7 running Ubuntu 14.04 64bit (ELAN touchscreen) Thanks for your work and I hope we get a fix real soon! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1212736 Title: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mousetweaks/+bug/1212736/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately that won't work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty
@Pali: I am glad it worked for you, but this is not an acceptable solution for less technical users who just want Ubuntu to work straight after boot. I currently dual boot with Debian unstable, which is running kernel 3.13, mesa 10.1, xorg 1.15 and GNOME 3, and I have none of these problems. Both the opensource and proprietary drivers worked painlessly. I don't know whether the probblem comes from Unity itself or the patched kernel that Ubuntu runs, but, as of today, I cannot use the opensource driver because of this bug and cannot use the proprietary driver because Unity refuses to load (same as reported here: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?93838-Ubuntu-14-04-Kernel-3-13 -and-AMD-Catalyst-issue).
