Created attachment 101990 kernel log 3.15rc-Jun-27 This bug still exists in drm-nouveau-next (commit 242a42eadfc17448a0d5b2ffc0cb191c8b51971a) with Ubuntu 14.04 userspace. The error message has changed to E[ PFIFO][:01:00.0] INTR 0x0080, and some of the INTR 0x0100: 0x0005 warnings now come _after_ it. In Ubuntu 14.04 (not 13.10) with either this git kernel or its standard 3.13, there is also a hang on resume from suspend (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- nouveau/+bug/1333417), but it is not clear whether this is a driver or BIOS problem. In the attached, the original bug is at 08:09:47 and 08:20:06, the resume failure (which can log GPU lockup, failed to idle chanel 0x0001 [Xorg[1185]], or nothing) is at 08:14:53. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1243557 Title: 10de:1056 [Dell Latitude E6520] [NVS 4200M] X freeze, unhandled status 0x0080 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1243557/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1336227] [NEW] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen
Public bug reported: I'm using 12.04 64bit latest uname -a Linux xps-Dell-System-XPS-L702X 3.2.0-65-generic #98-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 11 20:27:07 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux on a Dell XPS L702X (this has a builtin Intel graphics and the GeForce GT550M card.) When I close the lid to suspend resume, sometimes (not always), I just get a backlit black screen with a moveable cursor... but the rest of the screen doesn't come back. I can hear other apps resumming/running/connecting ok. When this happens, all I normally do is the ALT-PRNTSCR + R,E,I,S,U,B to hopefully safely reboot. I did find this bug - which looks like my exact problem, but the bug says fixed ( is pretty old - 2012) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/966744 - suggestions at the end are to raise a new bug under xserver-xorg- video-intel - hence this log. In my Xorg.log, it shows the; [ 13226.757] (WW) intel(0): flip queue failed: Invalid argument [ 13226.757] (WW) intel(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument - mentioned in the original bug as the possible problem. hope someone can help/point me in the right direction. thanks. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1335500] [NEW] Language (sort of)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: To whom it may concern: I am reporting this issue as a bug but I believe it to be more of a mistake (in my humble opinion). After a quick scan in Ubuntu forums and FAQ I believe I am not the first one to report the issue and thus I will just tell you what the problem is and why I think it should be addressed. Tough I can see a few possible solutions I will leave that up to you. The problem is that anyone that migrates from Windows (or Mac) to Ubuntu (i.e. 90%+ of computer users) and specially the Portuguese language users which is the official language in 10 countries and spoken in 34 (roughly 10% of the world’s population) won’t be able to use the US International keyboard with dead keys to type “ç”. In fact, I am now writing to you from my Windows partition because I am still trying to find a solution that does not involve editing files and doing it all over again whenever I update the kernel. Why on earth would you want to change the keyboard configuration to an acute c? Was this a Croatian programmer decision or did you really think it over? You have a great operating system but this is the sort of thing that annoys a lot of people and makes them stay comfortably numb with other operating systems. The historical reason for Portuguese speakers/writers use of US International keyboard with dead keys it that Portugal itself has as much population living outside the country and thus these people by computers locally with US keyboard, mine, for instance, was bought in Hong Kong. I guess the same happens with all other Portuguese speaking countries and it is an arrangement that works for both users and computer companies and retailers that only have to keep inventories of computers with US International keyboards, it is sort of a one solution fits all, including French and Spanish, two other languages also widely spoken. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313275] Re: relogin fails with black screen, Xorg high load
This happens me too. Always reproducible, steps: a) start computer b) verify that Xorg is using some 0.7% CPU c) lock the screen d) login back - Xorg uses 97 ... 105% CPU Wait over ten minutes and it will not cool down. ('sudo killall Xorg' helps) - Step c) could be suspend/hibernate too, because they implies screen locking. - Also changing to the tty (i.e. ctrl-alt-f1) triggers xorg to use ~100% CPU. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328898] Re: VMware guest video broken by the 3.2.0.64 kernel update
In addition to my previous comment about Ubuntu 14.04 VM on vmware player 6.0.2 : - If I use my usual script that create VM in version Workstation 6.5-7.x virtual machine : I have the split screen issue. - If I configure manually, the VM is created in version Workstation 10.0 virtual machine : I don't have the split screen issue. I guess it's the same for ubuntu 12.04 (I will test). I hope there will be a solution to this issue because upgrade all VM to the version Workstation 10.0 virtual machine, and all clients to vmware player 6.0.2 is quite complicated. if you need specific information, don't hesitate to contact me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-vmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328898 Title: VMware guest video broken by the 3.2.0.64 kernel update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-vmware/+bug/1328898/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1336588] [NEW] Xutf8LookupString doesn't report overflows with small buffer sizes
Public bug reported: Greetings! First of all, as per the instructions below, I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with libx11-6 version 2:1.6.2-1ubuntu2 installed. I'm trying to figure out how to develop a Unicode-based Xlib application, and, after several days of frustration with my code strangely not picking up characters in some cases where every other program seemed to handle them correctly, I realized that the problem was due to Xutf8LookupString not reporting overflows correctly in some situations when a small buffer is passed. The workaround is very simple (using a bigger buffer), but I thought I'd report the problem anyway because none of the documentation I've found has said anything about a minimum buffer size and I think that it ought to get fixed (or at least mentioned) for the benefit of other new Xlib programmers or people porting programs over from other Xlib implementations. I've attached a small C program that can be used to demonstrate the problem. The particular key that I tested with was the ñ key on the Spanish keyboard layout, but it seems like the problem manifests itself for any non-ASCII Latin-1 character with a direct key association (and possibly other cases). As written, the attached program functions perfectly: pressing ñ results in got 2 bytes: ñ appearing on the terminal. However, if one changes line 116 from const int INITIAL_BUFFER_SIZE = 4; down to const int INITIAL_BUFFER_SIZE = 1; (or even down to 0!), pressing ñ instead results in the message got 0 bytes: because, instead of reporting the actual character length and a buffer overflow as it should, Xutf8LookupString reports that the character sequence doesn't exist. The bug also occurs if one uses XmbLookupString instead of Xutf8LookupString for roughly the same reason, but I'm focusing on Xutf8LookupString here instead since its logic is somewhat simpler and because it's the one that will be more useful for what I'm trying to do in my program. So, how does this bug come about? To answer that question, I downloaded the source package, fired up my debugger, traced the execution path through all of the indirect function calls, and narrowed the problem down to these three functions: modules/im/ximcp/imDefLkup.c lines 1120-1181: int _XimProtoUtf8LookupString( XIC xic, XKeyEvent *ev, char*buffer, int bytes, KeySym *keysym, Status *state) { Xic ic = (Xic)xic; Xim im = (Xim)ic-core.im; int ret; Status tmp_state; XimCommitInfoinfo; if (!IS_SERVER_CONNECTED(im)) return 0; if (!state) state = tmp_state; if (ev-type == KeyPress ev-keycode == 0) { /* Filter function */ if (!(info = ic-private.proto.commit_info)) { *state = XLookupNone; return 0; } ret = im-methods-ctstoutf8((XIM)im, info-string, info-string_len, buffer, bytes, state); if (*state == XBufferOverflow) return ret; if (keysym (info-keysym *(info-keysym))) { *keysym = *(info-keysym); if (*state == XLookupChars) *state = XLookupBoth; else *state = XLookupKeySym; } _XimUnregCommitInfo(ic); } else if (ev-type == KeyPress) { ret = _XimLookupUTF8Text(ic, ev, buffer, bytes, keysym, NULL); if (ret 0) { if (ret bytes) *state = XBufferOverflow; else if (keysym *keysym != NoSymbol) *state = XLookupBoth; else *state = XLookupChars; } else { if (keysym *keysym != NoSymbol) *state = XLookupKeySym; else *state = XLookupNone; } } else { *state = XLookupNone; ret = 0; } return ret; } src/imConv.c lines 300-356: int _XimLookupUTF8Text( Xic ic, XKeyEvent* event, char* buffer, int nbytes, KeySym* keysym, XComposeStatus* status) { int count; KeySym symbol; Status dummy; Xim im = (Xim)ic-core.im; XimCommonPrivateRec* private = im-private.common; unsigned char look[BUF_SIZE]; ucs4_t ucs4; /* force a latin-1 lookup for compatibility */ count = XLOOKUPSTRING(event, (char *)buffer, nbytes, symbol, status); if (keysym != NULL) *keysym = symbol; if ((nbytes == 0) || (symbol == NoSymbol)) return count; if (count 1) { memcpy(look, (char *)buffer, count); look[count] = '\0'; if ((count = im-methods-ctstoutf8(ic-core.im, (char*) look, count, buffer, nbytes, dummy)) 0) { count = 0; } } else if ((count == 0) ||

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328898] Re: VMware guest video broken by the 3.2.0.64 kernel update
Hi cedricg91, While I don't have a Windows 7 PC handy, I have tested using the following two host environments. * ElementaryOS (VMWare Player 6.0.2 build-1744117 / 3D acceleration OFF) * Mac OS X Mountain Lion (VMWare Fusion 5.0.4 1435862 / 3D acceleration ON) With each of these host environments, I've tested both * Ubuntu 12.04 LTS kernels: * 3.11.0-24-generic * latest git as of yesterday * 3.2.0-58-generic * 3.2.0-59-generic * 3.2.0-63-generic * 3.2.0-64-generic * Ubuntu 14.04 LTS * kernels: 3.13.0-24-generic * latest git as of yesterday Note: in the 12.04 test, I performed tests with several of the narrowed down versions that users reported in the link below. https://communities.vmware.com/message/2388776 With each of the above Ubuntu installations, there were no packages or settings changed from the default installation options (aside from vmware-tools). Only Ubuntu-recommended updates were performed. For each of these Ubuntu installations, on each of the host environments, I have used both KMS and fbdev API's. In KMS mode (via X / Unity desktop), aside from regular usage, I've resized the screen using the guest OS (Ubuntu's System Settings) and also resized using the VMWare window in the host environment. I have not been able to reproduce the split-screen issue. Just a couple of comments: * Is it possible that this issue ONLY occurs with a Windows (7?) host environment? VMWare folks? * I would be very surprised if Ubuntu even used the vmware fbdev interface and have some doubt that the code path from the patch in question is even hot. Since I do not have access to a Windows 7 host machine, I would appreciate if you could test for me. Can you please add a logging statement in the kernel to function vmwgfx_fb.c::vmw_fb_check_var() ? E.g. printk( KERN_INFO fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length CODE PATH TRAVERSED\n ); If you haven't seen the log message above - the split screen issue would most certainly have originated elsewhere. If you do see the log message above, can you please try the following: 1) fetching the source package for a kernel that is FAILING your test, 2) reverse-applying the patch from link below https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/1/41 3) recompiling the vmwgfx.ko module 4) making a backup of the original vmwgfx.ko module 5) overwriting the original vmwgfx.ko module 6) trying to reproduce the problem without the fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length patch If that SOLVES the problem, please repeat the steps above with the following line removed from the patch. vmw_write(vmw_priv, SVGA_REG_BYTES_PER_LINE, info-fix.line_length); I greatly appreciate your effort in helping to resolve this bug - I wish I could do more, but I'm unable to reproduce it.
