[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1371853] [NEW] Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour
Public bug reported: This problem began with the 14.04 upgrade. The mouse has always worked normally until then. Approximately every 10 minutes - and possibly triggered by Alt-Tab window switches/opening new windows - the mouse behaviour becomes rather strange. Primarly, left-clicks are not registered properly to the topmost window. They usually appear to go "through" to the window below and it's not possible to switch focus to a new window (or any other window). Mouse movement is unaffected and clicking on the original window (which has grabbed the focus) seems to work. The Unity bar pops out but is not clickable and rapidly re-hides. Sometimes individual window elements are not usable even if the main window itself is. Examples: * In Thunderbird, left-pane account/folder selection works, but does not perform the corresponding update to the message list/preview panes when the folder selection changes. * dialogues are popped up where parts of the dialogue respond to clicks but other parts do not. Commonly, the dialogue title/menu bar is not responsive (it cannot be moved/closed). Sometimes right-clicking will restore focus to the appropriate window/area. Sometimes not. Unloading and reloading usbhid and hid_logitech modules does not help. Restarting will fix the problem temporarily. I've found that switching to a console and back will fix the problem temporarily too (Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-F7). Several very similar bugs exist for wireless headsets, mice and quite often Logitech (although of course this is just a common brand) from before 14.04, but for me this was never a problem previously. They are being closed as expired even though they still exist in 14.04. Bug #993655, Bug #1006156 and Bug #1337586 are examples. It is not 100% clear to me if this is an xorg bug, but this is what was being suggested in those tickets. The combination of module reloading not working with console switching working (reinstall handlers?) does suggest X is involved. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1371704] [NEW] flickering stripes/dashes screen corruption following recent update in 14.04
Public bug reported: After a regular update of my LTS during the last week, the screen has started showing corruption. For instance, when I maximise a window, the screen flickers for up to a second with an overlay of black dashes and stripes, sometimes in a chevron pattern or just horizontal black dashes covering the whole screen, especially on an external display. It does not show up in a screen capture. The problem is still there in RHEL 6.6 beta, xorg-x11-server- Xorg-1.15.0-16.el6.x86_64. In the end, is this more a Nvidia driver problem ? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043575]
No, this is **NOT** an nVidia (or any driver) problem (emphasis because the common misconception seems to be that it is an nVidia/ATI/AMD proprietary driver issue, even I shared this misconception before looking at the code). It is a problem with the implementation of the Bresenham (bres for short) line drawing algorithm. I am not sure how the other drivers get around this problem. My assumption (and if I recall correct I may have even tested this) is that they do not call the code in question at all. I'm guessing that they implement the line draw on the graphics chip or something and therefore override this problematic code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043575 Title: Xubuntu 12.10 + Xorg server 1.13 = Window decoration missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfwm4/+bug/1043575/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

(In reply to comment #189) > Hi Chris, > > OK, nothing of the above was the reason. Not really, https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70764 tracks that this hang is more likely with TearFree (fundamentally the hang is still the same hardware issue, but it is interesting that TearFree has a higher chance of hitting it). If you want to experiment: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~ickle/linux-2.6/log/?h=requests should have an interesting fix, at least for trying to prevent the TearFree leading to the semaphore hang. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1140716 Title: [regression] 3.5.0-26-generic and 3.2.0-39-generic GPU hangs on Sandybridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dri/+bug/1140716/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1140716]
Hi Chris, OK, nothing of the above was the reason. In my case it's simply this: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" Option "TearFree""true" EndSection I added it when the tearing scrolling through large webpages annoyed me. As soon as I added it, the problems quickly started. Selfmade problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1140716]
Hi Chris, meanwhile my current kernel is 3.16.1-46.1.g90bc0f1 I'm wondering (after a reinstall) that the semaphore bug hasn't occured yet, which was the case before (after a fresh install). This leads me to 4 definable possible reasons: 1. the named kernel revision somehow contains a fix for it. looking at the changes I could'nt get an affirmation to that assumption. 2. cgroup_memory=disabled has a relation to it. (That's why I removed it for now). 3. the BIOS settings (which could be different now) might have something to do with it. 4. I haven't installed KVM suppport yet. I'll post again if I find a reproducible explanation.
