Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1584284] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LiveCD does not boot on AMD A10 chip

2016-07-04 Thread Roger Merritt
Sorry, this version is even worse. After the grub menu the screen goes
black, than after about fifteen seconds it gores even blacker, indicating
that there is no longer any signal going to the monitor. A few seconds
after that the "No Signal" notice appears, and after it fades everything
sits quietly. At least with 16.04 there was some visible activity after the
grub menu until it went black. Thanks for the effort, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598993] [NEW] xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output

2016-07-04 Thread Jim Cline
Public bug reported:

after doing xrandr --output HDMI2 --scale wxh, using any values except
1x1, the screen becomes increasingly distorted when typing in an editor
window. The problem first appears as images of the previous cursor
position being left behind, but as typing continues, lines below that
being edited become increasingly garbled. The distortion can be removed
temporarily by dragging the window to a different position. But of
course it comes back as soon as editing resumes. The problem appears
also in typing in an xterm window, as the image of the cursor gets left
behind while typing the space bar. This makes the scale option
completely useless for my usual purposes, and forces me to live with a
screen resolution that doesn't properly fill the external monitor. The
problem did not exist in xrandr 1.3.3 on my old system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2016-07-04 Thread Dmitry Bambiza
Mouse cursor does not flicker with MATEs Marco window manager on 1st and
2nd monitors. Also it feels like there is no more cursor lag (perhaps
very slight) on the 3rd monitor (connected with DisplayLink) I have one
Radeon HD 5770 and all 3 monitors are connected to it. Open source
driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1584496] Re: Nouveau randomly freezes system

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jason Yundt, it's fine if you just want to run it with the nvidia
drivers installed. However, in order to obtain debugging information,
you would have to uninstall the nvidia driver, at least while capturing
requested logs.

It is very clear in the last photos, if you know what a topographic map
looks like? Do you know what I'm referring to when I say "topographic"??
If you look into the desktop image(s), rather than a blending transition,
as is the probable intention--the transitions are "stacked" like a
topographic map image of a mountain. And along with that the edges of the
different "elevations" are jaggedy lines . . . .

On the screen it is very blatant . . . the desktop images look like they
are formed by a low resolution graphics driver . . . whereas the icons and
text are rendered very well.

I think that is also clear in the #135 image. Look carefully and you can
see what I'm talking about in the photos. Up to you, just so you know that
it is still a problem, and it is not "subtle" or anything that could be
missed . . . .

Do I need to have the nouveau driver installed before running that
command? I installed the proprietary nvidia one a while ago to avoid
this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598818] Re: I am just trying to install my VGA

2016-07-04 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the bug title to something more meaningful.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves

2016-07-04 Thread Jim Cline
I have the same bug in a recent build from xenial. I tried downgrading
xorg to precise, no difference, mouse still hits the wall when output to
internal monitor is turned off. If both monitors are turned on, the
problem does not occur. But I like to conserve my laptop screen when I
am connected to an external monitor.

@Christopher:

I ran an update/upgrade just a few minutes ago, and on reboot, no
change.

I checked your link, and that is to 16.10 daily . . . for which, there is
no PPC friendly option. I'm in 16.04 PPC, after the dist-upgrade the
problem continues with blotchy graphics on desktop images for both MATE &
Xu DE's.

I'll check the 16.04 daily, if I can zsync it fairly fast I'll try it; if
not, when I get back to my newer machine I can get the screen photos I took
with my iPod uploaded here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598593] Re: No video acceleration for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300)

2016-07-04 Thread indigocat
Tried adding "vblank_mode=0" to /etc/drirc, Option "SwapbuffersWait"
"false" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf as well as Option "DRI" "3". While
performance of the Wily Xorg stack is overall worse than Vivid, DRI3 is
definitely the insult added to injury, so to speak.

What information would you need from my system to begin pinpointing
possible problems or confirming possible regressions?

361.45.18

Side note: 367.27's libcuda1.367 and nvidia-opencl-icd-367 packages have
no "script" with either packages and won't install. Something to do with
this specific driver version from the PPA, the graphical glitches (as
mentioned before) still happen regardless of version.

The crash just happened again... this time it looks like it was related
to fullscreening a video on facebook.

I should probably also mention that I have a dual screen setup.

Yes, I am clear. Actually my touch screen was not working and I just
upgraded. Forgot the warning part. However, uninstalled and the error gone
and touchscreen working.
Thank you Chris.

I'm not exactly sure as I almost always download the latest version via
the PPA. I may have very briefly used 364 in both 15.10 and 16.04 at
some point.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1589263] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Anupam Datta, I assumed you were given bad information, but what actually
happened is you assumed incorrectly, as nobody ever said it was supported. As
was posted to you previously in the comment you linked, please read in full:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

Specifically:
>"Does the kernel team support the mainline kernel builds?

The mainline kernels builds are produced for debugging purposes and
therefore come with no support. Use them at your own risk."

To confirm, are you clear on this, or are you still confused?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1541082] Re: blotchy GUI graphics for images in 16.04 PPC

2016-07-04 Thread Fritz Hudnut
CP:

Thanks for the reply . . . I can get you a camera shot, I'll have to get
back to that computer later today to do that . . . one display shared by
the PPC and a newer machine, and I'll post that photo.

The testing of the current image as a fresh download . . . a little time
consuming on my slow DSL line . . . that may or may not happen. I just ran
an update via apt-get a few days ago, and while running U-MATE this am the
desktop image is the same blotchy deal that it has been since I posted this
bug report.

It's easier to run an update/upgrade than it is to even zsync and make a
usb flash drive of the daily . . . . I ***could*** do that, but, it will
take some time, and, then, question is, has anything "changed" such that it
won't be a time flush? : - 0

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1576844] Re: Touchpad/Trackpad freezes then eventually unfreezes (repeatedly)

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mash, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/xps-13-9343-laptop/drivers?os=biosa an update to your
computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A07). When
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1589263] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Anupam Datta:
>"I didnt install any third party kernel."

Before moving any further please review
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories as to what is and isn't
supported in Ubuntu.

With this in mind, as per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux
there is no supported repository that has 4.5.2 as a kernel.

>"I had downloaded from Ubuntu repo as my touchscreen was not working."

Manually downloading a kernel is not getting it from a supported Ubuntu
repository.

>"I was suggested to download from Ubuntu official repo, not from any
arbitrary source and exactly I had done that. And it got updated after
that from Ubuntu updates."

You are confused because you were given bad information by someone's
suggestion.

Moving past this, please uninstall the 3rd party, unsupported 4.5.2
kernel, and return your system to the default repository kernel.

Once done, please provide the following terminal command to confirm the results:
uname -a

2016-07-04 Thread Anupam Datta
I didnt install any third party kernel. I had downloaded from Ubuntu repo
as my touchscreen was not working. I was suggested to download from Ubuntu
official repo, not from any arbitrary source and exactly I had done that.
And it got updated after that from Ubuntu updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1589263] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Anupam Datta, to advise, one doesn't download supported Ubuntu kernels
from anywhere. It's provided when one updates the computer.

You will need to uninstall the 3rd party kernel in order to restore your
system to a supported state.

2016-07-04 Thread Fritz Hudnut
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu xenial

** Description changed:

  Gents:

Another issue I found on my recent install of U-MATE 16.04 PPC on my
Powermac 3,1 . . . had some "kernel certificate" errors on booting the
live DVD, which carried over to the install . . . and using various boot
params actually caused the live session to fail. So, only using "live"
gets me into a nice GUI display. Now in the install, it quickly moves
passed the "kernel cert" error and a couple other errors, and display
from ATI RAGE 128 card for text is very crisp, but the background image
and other image files are blotchy and color changes are not rendered
  smoothly . . .

- I had this or a similar issue in a Lubuntu 14.04 live DVD on my iBook
- G4, text rendered perfectly, but images were blurry and rough . . . .
- Any thoughts for how this might be fixed?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568243] Re: No video signal after OS load/APU Radeon 6530

2016-07-04 Thread Foghrye4
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu wily

** Description changed:

After recent package upgrade on Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 monitor stops
receiving signal in a moment when login screen should appear. I still heard a
sound of OS loaded (drums). I'm using AMD A6-3650 APU with Radeon(tm) HD
Graphics × 4. Launching OS via safe mode works fine with video provided by
"Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 128 bits)".
  Version of xserver-xorg-video-ati:
  1:7.7.0-1 amd64
  Also:
  - Purge and reinstalling xserver-xorg-video-ati package not helping.
  - Booting from "Live USB" with Ubuntu 16.04 beta2 results in same effect
after choosing "Try Ubuntu" option.
  Workaround:
  - Install Ubuntu 15.10 or earlier.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1589893] Re: Xorg crashes

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kevin, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue,
at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status New. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your help.
