[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1888810] Re: MATE desktop in Ubuntu 20.04 screen tearing with modeset driver

2020-11-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looking deeper at this bug I just noticed the issue is triggered by
using a fake screen resolution:

  1912x1080_60.00 (0x48) 171.250MHz -HSync +VSync *current +preferred

It should be 1920x1080 (https://support.hp.com/au-
en/document/c05033206#AbT3).

While Xorg lets you create any resolution of your choice, doing so will
result in indirect rendering, which will result in tearing with the
modeset driver.

So this bug seems like user error... You just need to remove the custom
mode "1912x1080" or find out what/where that came from.

2020-11-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Wow, thanks. Finally success in comment #28 which shows amdgpu kernel

Nov 10 11:45:58 blaise-vivo gnome-shell[1908]: GNOME Shell crashed with signal

So it sounds like the problem is originating in the kernel driver:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login

2020-11-10 Thread Tim Wetzel
Daniel, of course. My point was that I've now seen multiple occurrences
where this suspend on login bug, as it continues to occur on a given
system, causes Ubuntu to become less and less stable over time.
Unfortunately that impact has become predictable at least on the
machines here. So to me, this particular bug is of increasing concern
and urgency.

I'm new to Ubuntu and appreciate your pointers. If I can see consistency
and gather enough information to report a new bug, I will. So far, what
I see is that this suspend on login bug can follow various events on a
docked laptop: loading the Dropbox app, loading the Logitech module for
a USB wireless mouse, loading third party nVidia drivers... and then
with continued occurrences it goes deeper into the gnome shell. The
affected systems have submitted automated crash reports already. But at
this point my concern is this suspend on login bug.

I certainly didn't intend to shift attention from the bug at hand! Quite
the opposite. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 295990] Re: Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard

2020-11-10 Thread scheleaap
I have started to experience this bug after upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04
to 20.04. Whenever I remove my external keyboard and plug it back in,
the external keyboard's layout switches to US English instead of
whatever it was set to. The laptop's built-in keyboard layout remains
correct.

I did not notice any warnings in my logs. If you need more information /
debug output, I'd be glad to help.

Some details:
* Laptop: Lenovo T480
* OS: Ubuntu 20.04
* External keyboard: Das Keyboard 4 Professional (model no.:
DASK4MKPROSIL-3G7-r1.2)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1902244] Please test proposed package

2020-11-10 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libdrm into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/2.4.102-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-11-10 Thread Coiby Xu
The patch in #239 depends on this patch [1] which requires to build the
whole kernel. For now, I would suggest adopting #189 to fix the touchpad
for daily use. But if anyone want to test the patch so we can push it
into the mainline kernel early, you can send me your email address and
I'll Cc you when submitting next version.

I'm not sure when these patch(es) will be accepted and merged. It's up
to the maintainers to accept the patch(es). If there is any update, I'll
post the notification here.

The touchpads on Legion-5 could be saved by either polling (#179)
or interrupt (#171). I've submitted both patches upstream for these
two methods. After getting reviewed by the kernel developer community,
I will keep improving them until these patches get accepted by the
maintainer. I would suggest you try #171 before the patches getting
merged into the mainline kernel. If it doesn't work, you can send me
your ACPI DSDT table.

You can send me your email address. I'll Cc you when submitting the
patch(es). Then you can test the received patch and reply to the email
with a Tested-by tag if the patch(es) works,

#171 should fix your touchpad. According to your shared gpio-config,
that patch didn't take effect. So I guess you are still using the old
pinctrl-amd module.
