[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1894415] Re: XORG crashes with segfault on Ubuntu 1804 during login
I'm a little confused, I am on 18.04.5 (this is what dell ships with the unit). Was there something in the log that suggested otherwise? AFAIK I have the latest packages (ie. ran apt update/upgrade). Thank you for your help. I will follow those steps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894415 Title: XORG crashes with segfault on Ubuntu 1804 during login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1894415/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1894415] [NEW] XORG crashes with segfault on Ubuntu 1804 during login
Public bug reported: This is maybe a long shot, but I have a Dell XPS 13 2020 running Ubuntu 18.04. It was running fine for a while, but for some reason it recently developed an issue where xorg crashes on login. I get as far as the desktop, but then it locks up and mouse/keyboard stop responding. I have verified this happens if I select the following login shells: Ubuntu, Gnome Classic, xfce4. It does not happen under wayland, so I have switched to that for now. The segfault is as follows: Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Backtrace: Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 0: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (xorg_backtrace+0x4d) [0x55e34e1bba9d] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 1: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (0x55e34e003000+0x1bc839) [0x55e34e1bf839] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f3e4ca86000+0x128a0) [0x7f3e4ca988a0] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 3: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (DRI2CloseScreen+0x33) [0x55e34e18fc43] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 4: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so (0x7f3e49b5d000+0x7d48) [0x7f3e49b64d48] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 5: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (0x55e34e003000+0xc6407) [0x55e34e0c9407] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 6: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (0x55e34e003000+0x137762) [0x55e34e13a762] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 7: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (0x55e34e003000+0xe4bf0) [0x55e34e0e7bf0] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 8: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (0x55e34e003000+0x57000) [0x55e34e05a000] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 9: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xe7) [0x7f3e4c6b6b97] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) 10: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg (_start+0x2a) [0x55e34e043b8a] Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x90 Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: Fatal server error: Sep 05 21:32:18 -xps /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1902]: (EE) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1510021] Re: After upgrade from vivid to wily external monitor has only limited resolutions
Run as requested (with the MiniDP to VGA) adaptor connected. Interestingly I tried this with a colleagues generic el cheapo MiniDP to {VGA,HDMI,DVI} adaptor and successfully got my monitors native resolution. So for me at least it appears that the limited resolution issue only occurs with an official Apple MiniDP to VGA adaptor. But said adaptor worked fine in Vivid! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1510021 Title: After upgrade from vivid to wily external monitor has only limited resolutions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1510021/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367825] Re: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system
OK, I have installed a video card (NVidia 750 Ti - it is on the compatibility list). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367825] Re: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system
I am sorry I confused things with my VMs comment (I was explaining why I run Windows with 32GB of RAM - I won't make that mistake again). Yes, the problem occurs in Windows without VMs as well. Again my problem is very much like Paul said. I can leave the system for days without a problem. But then when I am reading something something on the screen and decide to move the mouse or scroll down or play a video the system will crash. Though it is crazily inconsistent. I may go a couple of weeks without a crash then have three crashes in an hour. I also thought it was related to memory or a memory issue - the more things I have running the more likely I am to see the problem (e.g. lots of firefox tabs)...but I have let memtest86+ run for hours without it throwing an error. I thought it could be a heat issue because I know I didn't do the greatest job with the thermal paste (I have been watching CPU temperature closely)...but seeing that you and Paul have the same problem I am now more confident that I am OK there. What hardware are you using? Are you using a Shuttle SZ77R5 as well...or something different? Just wanting to rule out a problem with the Shuttle hardware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1367825 Title: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1367825/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367825] Re: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system
I am also thinking of adding in a separate video card hoping that will work around the problem. I would be interested to hear how it works out for you. This is all very frustrating because I got the SZ77R5 due to the fact that it could handle 32GB in the ITX form factor (again so I could load up several VMs on it).
I can't believe it is power. This is supposed to be a 500W power supply! If it was power you would expect anyone with a video card would be complaining, wouldn't you (a memory stick may take 4 watts vs. potentially 100+ Watts for a video card)? Here is my setup: * x1 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SATA3 * x1 1TB WD Black SATA3 * x1 DVD-RW * 32GB G.SKILL RIPJAWS DDR3 1600 - mine are on the official compatibility list * Wired keyboard and mouse. Perhaps heat? Perhaps heat can't be dispersed well on the tiny motherboard when all four slots are used?
I don't know if this is relevant - I have a very similar configuration to Paul (SZ77R5 with 32GB of RAM,i7-3770 instead of i7-3770K). His problem seems uncannily similar to the problem I have been having except that I am running Windows 8.1 (running VMs with VirtualBox). Attaching my screenshot. I have been updating my Intel drivers as hey are released. The only thing that has changed unfortunately is the pattern on the screen. Could this be a hardware issue with the SZ77R5 motherboard? The Linux VESA drivers are working for you because the VESA driver is not taking advantage of all the features available in the Intel graphics processor? ** Attachment added: Crash Picture https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1367825/+attachment/4428022/+files/IMG_20140430_135726.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1367825 Title: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1367825/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)
Reinhard, thanks for your excellent workaround - this seems far less intrusive than downgrading libs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I had this problem today, If I start Google Chrome or Chromium it logs me out of X. uname -a gives Linux garethf-System-Product-Name 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and I'm using propriety NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.19 The Xorg.0.log showed a NULL deref in /usr/bin/Xorg. I can only guess that some of the kernel headers must have updated yesterday as it was working fine, but not enough for the nVidia driver not to work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again
I am one of those users and Ubuntu 12.10 is completely unusable to me without a fix to the hybrid graphics that works incredibly well on Ubuntu 12.04. Being a developer myself I understand the fact that things can go wrong beyond your control but the average end user doesn't care whose fault it ACTUALLY is and will just say that Ubuntu is crap because it cannot even handle graphics drivers. Hybrid graphics systems are also exceedingly common. Not solving this is essentially giving the finger to a very large potential user base. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068404 Title: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1068404/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again
I was wondering if there is any indication when this fix would hit the live Quantal repo's as at the moment I am running on tri-boot with Precise, Quantal and Windows until the graphics issues are fixed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 892878] [NEW] Xorg freezes for up to 30 seconds after screen mode changes
Public bug reported: Using the 285.05.09-0ubuntu1 NVidia drivers on my Precise install, any change in screen mode using: * NVidia settings - ie. enabling/disabling a second screen in Twinview; * Starting a movie in VLC Media Player; * Unplugging and/or plugging in a laptop mains lead; will result in the system becoming unresponsive for up to 30 seconds as it changes screen mode. This problem does not occur with the previous NVidia drivers (280.13-0ubuntu6) which is the workaround I am having to implement to avoid this bug at the moment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 859474] Re: Dragging with touchpad unusable
I have tried reverting to Gnome Shell and still have the problem, however I did try some other linux os and these worked fine. It seem to only effect Unity 3D and 2D as far as I can tell. Also I did try XFCE 4.8 on my 11.10 system and this worked fine. I have also tried some settings but alas still not working as well as it used to. I am sure it will be resolved very soon and I can work around it by using the left touch pad button and then move window as normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859474 Title: Dragging with touchpad unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/859474/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 859474] Re: Dragging with touchpad unusable
Sorry thats my bad typing and brain going in different dirctions lolz, Gnome Shell still had the same problem with the double tap and drag, as well as the Unity in 2D and 3D modes. Other desktops seem to be fine such as XFCE, LXDE and even KDE. I think I have downloaded so much today my system must be a right mess! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)
The workaround Disable DFP...(name of your screen) - Force Full Gpu Scaling as mentioned by michael.gregor in post #45 worked for me, but I must add to this bug report that this bug also occurs when using KWin (I use Kubuntu and KDE 4.7 Oneiric), so it's not restricted to Compiz + NVidia. ** Also affects: kde-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600178 Title: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/600178/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)
To add to my last comment, screen tearing is apparent using both Chrome and Firefox, in window or full-screen HTML5 and Flash video. So, whilst video played in VLC doesn't tear, it does tear in other applications. So the work-around isn't working for me in some cases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600178 Title: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/600178/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
