[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver
After 23 months without this Standby/Resume bug, it has now reappeared - See #30 above System; Lenovo V155-15API (V155 Series) Processor; AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Graphics adapter; AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 Memory; 12288 MB (Windows partition) Dual booting Windows 10 & Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (Ubuntu being main OS on separate partition) Bug present under both Ubuntu & Windows In Windows I once again ran the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool & let it install the drivers it detected as needed or needing updating. This fixed the problem in April 2020 but it has had no effect in 2022. In the Windows partition Lenovo want to install a BIOS upgrade, but I'm concerned about possible effect on the dual boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849084 Title: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1849084/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver
I don't know if this will help find the solution to this problem, but for what it's worth, here's a solution that worked in my instance & I would very much like to know why it worked. System; Lenovo V155-15API (V155 Series) Processor; AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Graphics adapter; AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 Memory; 12288 MB (Windows partition) Dual booting Windows 10 & Ubuntu 19.10 (Ubuntu being main OS on separate partition) Problem that developed in Ubuntu, hibernate/sleep/resume (including lid close) not working correctly consistently, requiring a power off reboot. After failing to find an answer to the problem in Linux, I eventually booted into Windows to find the problem even worse there, no hibernate/sleep/resume at all, a power off reboot the only option. Solution (So far); I downloaded the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool & let it install the drivers it detected as needed or needing updating. After this I rebooted into Windows & found hibernate/sleep/resume to be working perfectly. Thinking this to be a Windows only fix, I rebooted into Ubuntu with the intention of finding drivers suitable for fixing the problem in Linux, but before doing so, found to my surprise that hibernate/sleep/resume were now working perfectly in Ubuntu as well. Is these drivers somehow being shared via the EFI partition?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1852071] Re: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS] Brightness function keys works as microphone mute function keys

I'm experiencing this issue as well. I have an RX550 video card, using Ubuntu's drivers. Has anyone reported this to mesa, and if so where? If someone can share the right location/component for ME to log a bug, I will do so. It seems that AMD GPUs are quite useless today, a million things are broken and I'm strongly considering throwing out this $140 brand new video card to get a NVidia card that hopefully works 50% better. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767312 Title: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer-vaapi/+bug/1767312/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating
I've been hesitant to try to reproduce this because my system runs so well for a long time when this doesn't crop up. So I rebooted without the video=VGA-1:e parameter and it starts doing this sort of thing immediately. I uploaded a video at youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JOy_ilLAlw Strangely, when I add the video=VGA-1:e parameter it comes up fine and I tried to rotate and unrotate my monitors and various manipulations with ubuntu's display settings and xrandr and I couldn't get it to do the flickering thing. And I think I misspoke, it doesn't seem like triple buffering flicker but perhaps double buffering flicker. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808626 Title: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1808626/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating
I've been running the same setup and it runs absolutely perfectly if I boot up with editing the Ubuntu command line in grub and add video=VGA-1:e BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-43-generic root=UUID= ro drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/hannsg.bin video=VGA-1:e adding the video=VGA-1:e will allow the drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware parameter to work and I get my proper display. If I don't add the video=VGA-1:e line it will come up at 1024x768 mode and give a "Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors". After I do this following xrandr command and the stored configuration is restored I get the flickering problem virtually INSTANTLY. $ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R" With the video=VGA-1:e the stored configuration comes up properly on initial boot and the video drivers work perfectly, no flickering. https://ptouchman.blogspot.com/2018/12/my-edid-was-going-unrecognized- until-i.html I'll post a video when I dig out my digital camera.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] [NEW] Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating
Public bug reported: I've got a dual display setup, with one monitor rotated and I've been running into some weird bugs. The screen will not update properly at times and there will be areas that will intermittently flicker and show old areas that should have been overdrawn. Once it starts doing this, the only way to get things back to normal is to reboot. Going into standby and coming out of standby won't fix it. Actually, sometimes coming out of standby the screen won't refresh properly and I'll see the whole screen get some triple-buffer epilepsy inducing flicker. When I move the mouse from screen to screen and hover over the ubuntu launcher dock so that it scrolls the icons it will flip the triple buffers and the areas that have old data flickers. I think the display is triple buffered and one of the buffers gets old data. I can refresh the screen by dragging windows around manually like an "eraser" where I'm using the window to "erase old data" but this tends to get super annoying. It seems to get brought out by rotating one of my displays. I have a 1920x1200 pivoting display that is rotated to the left. My other display is 1920x1080 normal at position +1200+364. I seem to hit this a lot because my monitor doesn't have a good EDID so it comes up in ubuntu with an error message about crtcs (since it wants to do a 1920x1080 and it thinks the max is 1024x768) so after I set a new mode with: $ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R" Once the new mode gets added Ubuntu will automatically restore my desktop to its old settings pre-reboot and I start getting the flicker/update problems. I would imagine that the bug should show itself up if you do a few rotate/unrotate displays. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 Candidate: 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 Version table: *** 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3120 x 1920, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA-1 connected primary 1920x1080+1200+364 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.3256.25 848x480 60.00 640x480 59.94 1920x1080R59.93* HDMI-1 connected 1200x1920+0+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 519mm x 324mm 1920x1200 59.95*+ 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 59.88 1600x1000 60.01 1280x1024 85.0275.0260.02 1280x960 60.00 1152x864 75.00 1152x720 59.97 1024x768 75.0360.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 75.0060.32 640x480 75.0059.94 720x400 70.08 DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808626 Title: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1808626/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The problem here is that nvidia drop maintining 304.x, so they will not update the 304 driver with the kernel 4.15 standard. Currently there are some patches that fix the issue but in the future we don't know. Remember that nvidia304 is propietary and thus w/o nvidia there is no much we can make but pinning the Kernel so it doesn't update to 4.15 or above. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760308] Re: Unicode input not working on Bionic with CTRL-SHIFT-U
** Description changed: I need to enter Unicode with Unicode escape codes and the Ubuntu prescribed way is to use CTRL-SHIFT-U and then enter some numbers to input. This doesn't do anything in the Ubuntu Bionic beta. Potentially related the ALT-TAB window switching is delayed in recognizing the occurrence of the keys being pressed such that I have to hold ALT-TAB instead of quickly hitting both simultaneously. This is from a system that was upgraded from a previous Ubuntu version without any issues. While it does force 1920x1080, even after login, the nvidia driver is not working. lspci -v does show "Kernel driver in use: nvidia" for the card, but nvidia-settings behaves as if the driver is not loaded and glxinfo shows llvmpipe as the OpenGL renderer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752053 Title: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1752053/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1592519] [NEW] [radeon] sumo2 locks up and fails to train displayport during boot (panel turns off)
Public bug reported: Problem: Laptop panel turns off during boot, which makes the laptop unusable. Expected Results: Laptop panel is ON when I boot without "nomodeset", and I can use graphical UI. Environment: Ubuntu 16.04 (clean install) kernel 4.4.0-24 X.Org X Server 1.18.3 Hardware: HP ProBook 4535 [AMD/ATI] Sumo [Radeon HD 6380G] [AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] (rev ff) Overview: I used "nomodeset" kernel parameter to install Ubuntu, because without it I face the same bug - Laptop panel turns off during boot. UI works with this kernel parameter but it's not usable as it's very slow(!!!). When "nomodeset" is removed the system boots but the screen turns off during the boot. Guys from #radeon channel on "irc.freenode.net" said: radeon :00:01.0 is the sumo2 and it locks up radeon :01:00.0 is the caicos but there seems to be no problem with it the problem is the sumo crashing and failing to train displayport as it's the travis bridge it's trying to modeset which is the panel fixing the travis bridge is the first problem I also tried the latest (v4.7-rc3) manually installed kernel, confirmed that the bug remains, and submitted the bug here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96527 . (I guess I'll now have to keep an eye on it, lest it decides, like HAL did, to take me out) Yes, I had noticed that the log claims 24, but it is clear when I view a picture with a gradient that the depth is less. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338068] Re: Wrong color depth on Radeon HD 6770
Hi, thanks for looking into this. I just did the following: - Downloaded latest from daily-live/current - Created bootable USB - Switched cables to connect monitor to Radeon card - Booted with bootable USB - Confirmed that the problem persists (by viewing photos with a blue sky background and noticing the color gradient) - run apport-collect (which posted a total of 19 logs on launchpad) Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help Best regards, Michael On Tue, 24 Feb 2015, Christopher M. apport information ** Tags added: compiz-0.9 reproducible single-occurrence ubuntu vivid ** Description changed: Potentially a duplicate of Bug #1322413 (but different architecture and video card) Graphics card is Radeon HD 6770. I also tried setting them all to 2, and it froze pretty quickly too, and the machine became completely unrecoverable. Note that I also tried using the blob firmware with all values set to 2, so I think not having them at their natural amounts simply pisses the card off. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290002] Re: Volume wheel (Dell keyboard) not adjusting Ubuntu volume properly after update
Is this issue ever going to be fixed? Or no one cares anymore about older Ubuntu versions? 12.04 was supposed to be LTS! These issues should have not been neglected, nor allowed to happen in the first place. Before that specific update, which i suspect is this one: xkb-data:amd64 (2.5-1ubuntu1.3, 2.5-1ubuntu1.5), everything on my keyboard was working flawlessly. I cannot use the quickbuttons around the volume wheel or the volume wheel at all. This should be an easy fix for the developers. Please look into it as it is very annoying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290002 Title: Volume wheel (Dell keyboard) not adjusting Ubuntu volume properly after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1290002/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316873] [NEW] Left mouse button stops working
Public bug reported: This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron 15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in gmail, by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a Firefox user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not happened if i dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible that the plugin is to blame. Symptom === The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to function as normal. When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as normal. This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. I will appreciate any soltion or workaround. the same issue exist with my hdmi out as well... we want to use display port as hdmi has the limit of the 1080p resolution... the monitor i connect with is 2560 x 1440 http://tinyurl.com/l5bavcq ... the MacBookPro11,3 is 2880x1800 (not that i use it at that, 1600x1200 seems good enough)... perhaps it has to do with the higher resolutions as we ready for these 4k displays... i also have noted that an irq thread is null in htop and using higher then normal cpu... something like : irq48/null just below the kworker thread... and definitely thank you Dale... i can build a fedora kernel in an env and i can apply patches to test... i have no idea though about where to look in the kernel code or how to help debug... that is beyond me but can look around... where is the thunderbolt code in a vanilla kernel? cheers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248256 Title: [MacBookPro10,1] Plugging in displayport monitor causes kworker to take 100% CPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1248256/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
