[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1993560] [NEW] wlan errors

2022-10-19 Thread P
Public bug reported:

I do experience intermittent WLAN problems, with connections getting
lost after a few seconds, and continuous (unsuccessful) reconnection
attempts.

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a specific error description, but
in dmesg I see lines related to iwlwifi which suggest some microcode
does not execute as it should. I add these as attachment.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver

2022-03-22 Thread P. B.
After 23 months without this Standby/Resume bug, it has now reappeared - See
#30 above
System; Lenovo V155-15API (V155 Series)
Processor; AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
Graphics adapter; AMD Radeon RX Vega 8
Memory; 12288 MB (Windows partition)

Dual booting Windows 10 & Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (Ubuntu being main OS on separate
partition)
Bug present under both Ubuntu & Windows
In Windows I once again ran the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool & let it install
the drivers it detected as needed or needing updating. This fixed the problem
in April 2020 but it has had no effect in 2022.

In the Windows partition Lenovo want to install a BIOS upgrade, but I'm
concerned about possible effect on the dual boot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver

2020-04-07 Thread P. B.
I don't know if this will help find the solution to this problem, but for what
it's worth, here's a solution that worked in my instance & I would very much
like to know why it worked.
System; Lenovo V155-15API (V155 Series)
Processor; AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
Graphics adapter; AMD Radeon RX Vega 8
Memory; 12288 MB (Windows partition)

Dual booting Windows 10 & Ubuntu 19.10 (Ubuntu being main OS on separate
partition)

Problem that developed in Ubuntu, hibernate/sleep/resume (including lid
close) not working correctly consistently, requiring a power off reboot.

After failing to find an answer to the problem in Linux, I eventually
booted into Windows to find the problem even worse there, no
hibernate/sleep/resume at all, a power off reboot the only option.

Solution (So far); I downloaded the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool & let it
install the drivers it detected as needed or needing updating.

After this I rebooted into Windows & found hibernate/sleep/resume to be
working perfectly.

Thinking this to be a Windows only fix, I rebooted into Ubuntu with the
intention of finding drivers suitable for fixing the problem in Linux,
but before doing so, found to my surprise that hibernate/sleep/resume
were now working perfectly in Ubuntu as well.

Is these drivers somehow being shared via the EFI partition?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1852083] [NEW] [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, bluetooth mouse] Choppy/laggy bluetooth mouse cursor movement

2019-11-11 Thread Marcin P
Public bug reported:

1. Pair Logitech MX Master 3 bluetooth mouse with Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (don't use
Logitech bluetooth dongle, use built in laptop bluetooth)
2. Move cursor.
Cursor movement is choppy, laggy, like it's having 20 FPS refresh rate.

Workaround:
execute in terminal: `sudo hcitool lecup --handle 3585 --latency 0 --min 6
--max 8`
This command must be used every time the mouse is connected to the laptop
(after turning on the laptop, after some time of mouse inactivity etc.).

When using Logitech bluetooth dongle this problem never occurs.

  1. Pair Logitech MX Master 3 bluetooth mouse with Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (don't
use Logitech bluetooth dongle, use built in laptop bluetooth)
  2. Move cursor.
- Cursore movement is choppy, laggy, like it's having 20 FPS refresh rate.
+ Cursor movement is choppy, laggy, like it's having 20 FPS refresh rate.

  Workaround:
execute in terminal: `sudo hcitool lecup --handle 3585 --latency 0 --min 6
--max 8`
This command must be used every time the mouse is connected to the laptop
(after turning on the laptop, after some time of mouse inactivity etc.).

When using Logitech bluetooth dongle this problem never occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1852071] Re: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS] Brightness function keys works as microphone mute function keys

2019-11-11 Thread Marcin P
Sound function keys works almost OK:
1) fn+F5 mute/unmute outgoing sound, OK, however LED inside the key is always
off
2) fn+F6 decrease volume, OK
3) fn+F7 increase volume, OK
4) fn+F8 mute/unmute, OK, however LED inside the key is always off

But there are other function keys doesn't work as they should. For example:
5) fn+F12 Calendar - doesn't open the calendar, but does some weird changes to
keyboard layout?
6) fn+F13 Share screen - doesn't do anything, LED inside the key is always off
7) fn+F14 "Call" mostly isn't doing anything; in Firefox it shows/hides menu
bar; LED inside the key is always off
6) fn+F15 "End Call" seems not doing anything, LED inside the key is always off

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2019-02-03 Thread Scott P
After testing from a well modified system, the issue appears after I
install the amdgpu driver from AMD.

THAT SAID, this issue is noticeable on videos that I have viewed on this
system since initial install in January. I constantly view many videos
in Videos (every day) - so I suspect that something changed, that I
cannot undo.

Which specific package should I be verifying?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2019-02-03 Thread Scott P
I'm experiencing this issue as well. I have an RX550 video card, using
Ubuntu's drivers.

Has anyone reported this to mesa, and if so where? If someone can share
the right location/component for ME to log a bug, I will do so.

It seems that AMD GPUs are quite useless today, a million things are
broken and I'm strongly considering throwing out this $140 brand new
video card to get a NVidia card that hopefully works 50% better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

2018-12-27 Thread P Touchman
Been fiddling with rotating and unrotating displays and when it starts
drawing improperly when rotated, I can unrotate the displays and the
improper drawing/flickering disappears.

Also the improper drawing disappears when I go to mirror mode.

I would imagine most people don't see this bug because few people have
one monitor rotated left and have a second monitor in normal
orientation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

2018-12-27 Thread P Touchman
I've been hesitant to try to reproduce this because my system runs so
well for a long time when this doesn't crop up.

So I rebooted without the video=VGA-1:e parameter and it starts doing
this sort of thing immediately.

I uploaded a video at youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JOy_ilLAlw

Strangely, when I add the video=VGA-1:e parameter it comes up fine and I tried
to rotate and unrotate my monitors and various manipulations with ubuntu's
display settings and xrandr and I couldn't get it to do the flickering thing.

And I think I misspoke, it doesn't seem like triple buffering flicker
but perhaps double buffering flicker.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] Re: Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

2018-12-24 Thread P Touchman
I've been running the same setup and it runs absolutely perfectly if I
boot up with editing the Ubuntu command line in grub and add
video=VGA-1:e

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-43-generic root=UUID= ro
drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/hannsg.bin video=VGA-1:e

adding the video=VGA-1:e will allow the drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware
parameter to work and I get my proper display.

If I don't add the video=VGA-1:e line it will come up at 1024x768 mode
and give a "Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors".
After I do this following xrandr command and the stored configuration is
restored I get the flickering problem virtually INSTANTLY.

$ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088
+hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R"

With the video=VGA-1:e the stored configuration comes up properly on
initial boot and the video drivers work perfectly, no flickering.

https://ptouchman.blogspot.com/2018/12/my-edid-was-going-unrecognized-
until-i.html

I'll post a video when I dig out my digital camera.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808626] [NEW] Triple buffer flickering and weird display updating

2018-12-15 Thread P Touchman
Public bug reported:

I've got a dual display setup, with one monitor rotated and I've been
running into some weird bugs. The screen will not update properly at
times and there will be areas that will intermittently flicker and show
old areas that should have been overdrawn.

Once it starts doing this, the only way to get things back to normal is
to reboot.

Going into standby and coming out of standby won't fix it. Actually,
sometimes coming out of standby the screen won't refresh properly and
I'll see the whole screen get some triple-buffer epilepsy inducing
flicker.

When I move the mouse from screen to screen and hover over the ubuntu launcher
dock so that it scrolls the icons it will flip the triple buffers and the areas
that have old data flickers.

I think the display is triple buffered and one of the buffers gets old
data. I can refresh the screen by dragging windows around manually like
an "eraser" where I'm using the window to "erase old data" but this
tends to get super annoying.

It seems to get brought out by rotating one of my displays. I have a
1920x1200 pivoting display that is rotated to the left. My other
display is 1920x1080 normal at position +1200+364.

I seem to hit this a lot because my monitor doesn't have a good EDID so it
comes up in ubuntu with an error message about crtcs (since it wants to do a
1920x1080 and it thinks the max is 1024x768) so after I set a new mode with:

$ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080R"  138.50  1920 1968 2000 2080  1080 1083
1088 +hsync -vsync; xrandr --addmode VGA-1 "1920x1080R"

Once the new mode gets added Ubuntu will automatically restore my desktop to
its old settings pre-reboot and I start getting the flicker/update problems.

I would imagine that the bug should show itself up if you do a few
rotate/unrotate displays.

Here is nvidia release info for the latest driver 304.137 released in 2017-9-19:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/123709/en-us
Last bullet in "release highlights says:
"Removed support for checking for and downloading updated driver packages and
precompiled kernel interfaces from nvidia-installer. This functionality was
limited to unencrypted ftp and http, and was implemented using code that is no
longer actively maintained."

2018-08-21 Thread Hans P Möller
The problem here is that nvidia drop maintining 304.x, so they will not update
the 304 driver with the kernel 4.15 standard. Currently there are some patches
that fix the issue but in the future we don't know.
Remember that nvidia304 is propietary and thus w/o nvidia there is no much we
can make but pinning the Kernel so it doesn't update to 4.15 or above.

The other option is to use noveau and help the fix the issues they
currently have with this chips.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760308] Re: Unicode input not working on Bionic with CTRL-SHIFT-U

2018-03-31 Thread Daniel P. Clark
** Description changed:

I need to enter Unicode with Unicode escape codes and the Ubuntu
prescribed way is to use CTRL-SHIFT-U and then enter some numbers to
input. This doesn't do anything in the Ubuntu Bionic beta.

Potentially related the ALT-TAB window switching is delayed in
recognizing the occurrence of the keys being pressed such that I have to
hold ALT-TAB instead of quickly hitting both simultaneously.

This is from a system that was upgraded from a previous Ubuntu version
  without any issues.

Description: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
  Release: 18.04
+
+ The "Affects" package may not be accurate as I don't know what the cause
+ application is for this.

I spoke too soon, the lock screen is still 640x480, but when unlocked it
returns to 1920x1080. I can live with this, but something is still wrong
with the driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-03-12 Thread Burt P.
Regarding #43, #44, #51, here is what I did:
* Reset the grub config file
* Removed all nvidia* packages
* Reverted everything to the standard bionic as described here:
https://askubuntu.com/a/229663
* Removed all the old package information using: dpkg --purge `dpkg
--get-selections | grep deinstall | cut -f1`
* Installed nvidia-driver-390: apt-get install nvidia-driver-390
* Restarted

Everything seems to work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-03-10 Thread Burt P.
Regarding my comment #43:
The solution suggested in #46 doesn't work. While it does force 1920x1080, even
after login, the nvidia driver is not working.

lspci -v does show "Kernel driver in use: nvidia" for the card, but
nvidia-settings behaves as if the driver is not loaded and glxinfo shows
llvmpipe as the OpenGL renderer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1633777] [NEW] Ubuntu 16 Guest R9 290 problem

2016-10-15 Thread Carlos Eduardo P. Guidugli
Public bug reported:

I am running Fedora 24 in my host machine and I built an Ubuntu VM and
assigned my R9 290 to it. I already made this work with Windows, but
linux has been harder.

This is the output inside my Ubuntu VM:

I know there isn't a problem related to the pass-through because when I
start Ubuntu DVD, plymouth shows fine on both QXL and my other monitor.
But whenever X11 starts, the monitor attached to AMD GPU do not work.

Looking at X11 logs, it recognizes my r9 290 and the monitor attached to
it but no image is shown. Here are the warning and error messages on the
log:

Is there a way that I can make it work as it works with plymouth?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1592519] [NEW] [radeon] sumo2 locks up and fails to train displayport during boot (panel turns off)

2016-06-14 Thread Kostiantyn P
Public bug reported:

Problem: Laptop panel turns off during boot, which makes the laptop
unusable.

Expected Results: Laptop panel is ON when I boot without "nomodeset",
and I can use graphical UI.

Environment:
Ubuntu 16.04 (clean install) kernel 4.4.0-24
X.Org X Server 1.18.3

Hardware:
HP ProBook 4535
[AMD/ATI] Sumo [Radeon HD 6380G]
[AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] (rev ff)

Overview:
I used "nomodeset" kernel parameter to install Ubuntu, because without it I
face the same bug - Laptop panel turns off during boot. UI works with this
kernel parameter but it's not usable as it's very slow(!!!). When "nomodeset"
is removed the system boots but the screen turns off during the boot.

Guys from #radeon channel on "irc.freenode.net" said:
radeon :00:01.0 is the sumo2 and it locks up
radeon :01:00.0 is the caicos but there seems to be no problem
with it
the problem is the sumo crashing and failing to train displayport
as it's the travis bridge it's trying to modeset which is the panel
fixing the travis bridge is the first problem

I also tried the latest (v4.7-rc3) manually installed kernel, confirmed that
the bug remains, and submitted the bug here
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96527 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1443370] [NEW] fn key not working on Macbook Pro 12, 1

2015-04-13 Thread Thiago Marcos P. Santos
Public bug reported:

The 'fn' key on the Macbook Pro 12,1 (Early 2015) is not working.

The modifier is not captured by xev and the combination with any key
reports the original key.

More users are reporting the same issue on the forums:

Well I'm calling my computer a liar... (I guess I'll now have to keep an
eye on it, lest it decides, like HAL did, to take me out)

Yes, I had noticed that the log claims 24, but it is clear when I view
a picture with a gradient that the depth is less. It is also visible in
the shading of the Unity GUI elements.

If I slide the picture across to the other monitor (same model, attached
to an Intel card), it displays correctly.

To clarify previous comment: After giving me a hard time, fglrx did
install, but gave the same result as the open driver (i.e. color depth
was visibly less than 24bpp)

fglrx-updates (2:14.501-0ubuntu1)

   ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ fglrxinfo
   display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series
OpenGL version string: 4.4.13283 Compatibility Profile Context 14.501.1003

let me know if you need me to runn apport-collect while using the fglrx-
updates

In case it helps: The system is dual-adaptor, dual-display AMD/Intel.
Identical Philips 233V monitors on both cards. The Intel card has
correct color depth.

Thanks, m

fglxr gave me a really hard time to start on the daily build (I can

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338068] Re: Wrong color depth on Radeon HD 6770

2015-02-24 Thread Michael P
Hi, thanks for looking into this. I just did the following:

- Downloaded latest from daily-live/current
- Created bootable USB
- Switched cables to connect monitor to Radeon card
- Booted with bootable USB
- Confirmed that the problem persists (by viewing photos with a blue sky
background and noticing the color gradient)
- run apport-collect (which posted a total of 19 logs on launchpad)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help

Best regards,

Michael

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1392887] Re: serial wacom devices gone after upgrade to utopic/14.10

2015-02-09 Thread Scott P
This also impacts the Fujitsu T900 laptop. (it was upgraded from Saucy,
to Trusty quickly, then Utopic) The workaround in #8 has fixed the
issue. I have not tested hibernate or suspend as I do not use them very
often.

Heres the printed out values:
[3.185455] Rop nr: 6
[3.185457] Gpc nr: 4
[3.185460] Tpc nr for gpc 0: 4
[3.185463] Tpc nr for gpc 1: 4
[3.185466] Tpc nr for gpc 2: 4
[3.185469] Tpc nr for gpc 3: 4

I tried setting them all to 1, the card freezes pretty much immediately
after logging into kwin (which is when I suspect opengl rendering
starts), although oddly enough there was no read fault in the dmesg. I
also tried setting them all to 2, and it froze pretty quickly too, and
the machine became completely unrecoverable. Note that I also tried
using the blob firmware with all values set to 2, so I think not having
them at their natural amounts simply pisses the card off. Didn't try
directly disabling stuff with 0x22584/0x22588, not entirely sure where I
would do that even.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290002] Re: Volume wheel (Dell keyboard) not adjusting Ubuntu volume properly after update

2014-06-05 Thread Harry P
Is this issue ever going to be fixed?

Or no one cares anymore about older Ubuntu versions? 12.04 was supposed
to be LTS!

These issues should have not been neglected, nor allowed to happen in
the first place.

Before that specific update, which i suspect is this one: xkb-data:amd64
(2.5-1ubuntu1.3, 2.5-1ubuntu1.5),

everything on my keyboard was working flawlessly. I cannot use the
quickbuttons around the volume wheel or the volume wheel at all. This
should be an easy fix for the developers.

Please look into it as it is very annoying.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316873] [NEW] Left mouse button stops working

2014-05-06 Thread Harry P
Public bug reported:

This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops
and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron
15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in gmail,
by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a Firefox
user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not happened if i
dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible that the plugin
is to blame.

Symptom
===
The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will
not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This
happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to
function as normal.

When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log
out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as
normal.

This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and
desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. I will
appreciate any soltion or workaround.

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=382551
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=415645

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1248256] Re: [MacBookPro10, 1] Plugging in displayport monitor causes kworker to take 100% CPU

2014-04-04 Thread page p
the same issue exist with my hdmi out as well... we want to use display
port as hdmi has the limit of the 1080p resolution... the monitor i
connect with is 2560 x 1440 http://tinyurl.com/l5bavcq ... the
MacBookPro11,3 is 2880x1800 (not that i use it at that, 1600x1200 seems
good enough)... perhaps it has to do with the higher resolutions as we
ready for these 4k displays...

i also have noted that an irq thread is null in htop and using higher
then normal cpu... something like : irq48/null just below the kworker
thread...

and definitely thank you Dale... i can build a fedora kernel in an env
and i can apply patches to test... i have no idea though about where to
look in the kernel code or how to help debug... that is beyond me but
can look around... where is the thunderbolt code in a vanilla kernel?

cheers.

hi Chris, secretly i run fedora 20 and appreciate the info... i really
miss smolt where i could just point to that information and see what the
current optin population was... can not believe this is really the only
information about it on the internetz... should we email the nouveau
driver team directly as i have been working for days trying to find a
solution.

not being able to use a second display is painful...

Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS

I run update on Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit on 2014-03-07, and after restarting

anymore.

Keyboard is Dell X295D Multimedia USB Keyboard (Greek)

I can confirm that the volume wheel is not malfunctioned because the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597476] Re: GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default

2014-02-03 Thread Alex P
Tried to install Lubuntu 13.10, Linux Mint 16 XFCE or Cinnamon and had
problems launching the installer due to distorted graphics. Linux Mint
has compatibility mode that works fine for the installer. However after
installing and rebooting I get the distorted graphics again. The text
terminal (ALT+CTRL+F1) is more or less usable, but far from ideal.

The only to solve the problem for me was by using nomodeset in grub.

Hardware: HP Pavilion DV6700 with Nvidia Geforce 7150m/ nForce 630

You must have named the fuc files wrong or they were not in the initrd,
if nouveau fails to load the firmware like this it simply bails out and
the driver won't finish loading, hence the blank screen.
