Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2009564] Re: Touchpad disabling while typing does not work
Thanks, Daniel - I assumed this bug was known -- others online have had it. But I wanted to still report it in hope that it will not always be an issue. - Neither setting org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad disable-while-typing nor any other solution I have found online for this works. Everything has invariably failed to make the touchpad shut off while typing. - I have been trying earlier today to log in with Xorg, and this is its own can of worms. I can't, and I'm not sure why. I don't have the option to with a little gear on startup/login. And when I try to edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and restart the computer, it won't start up unless I use ctrl+alt+f4 to open up a virtual console on startup and undo the change to /etc/gdm3/custom.conf. In summary, nothing works. If some immediate solution comes to mind, great. Else, I'll hope for an update soon. Thanks! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1909946] Re: XWayland session starts, then quits.
Some more details: Using both gnome-wayland & ubuntu-wayland sessions, the common major errors are the following: 12:22:45 PM gnome-shell: Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection 12:22:23 PM gdm-session-wor: gkr-pam: unable to locate daemon control file It happens when the desktop appears after about maybe 10 seconds or so. So I can't see PAM being involved as PAM is invoked during login — isn't it? Anyway hope this helps. Oh, I reinstalled from a backup image, (I have the system on a separate hard drive to my home directory) that was working correctly on Wayland. And with nothing added to the image, the same behaviour happened. So, I'm thinking this is probably a setting in my home directory — but which one? Suggestions to troubleshoot this are welcome — I'll put in the time to help figure this out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1909946 Title: XWayland session starts, then quits. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1909946] [NEW] XWayland session starts, then quits.
Public bug reported: So, this started about a week ago after an update from Ubuntu. I can initially login with XWayland, but something loading after the desktop appears, causes the session to exit. The only thing I can find relevant in the logs at the timestamp this occurred are the following: -gkr-pam: unable to locate daemon control file -Failed to start Process error reports when automatic reporting is enabled. -A start job for unit UNIT has failed I hope this helps track down the issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1846899] Re: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver on GeForce GT 730 (bionic)
The video card in question has died... The machine wouldn't boot at all with the video card in the machine. So I think the bug report should be retired, not so much resolved as unresolvable. I can't collect any more data on the symptoms and I can't swear the problem wasn't an early indication of hardware failure. Thanks to all who had suggestions. I did manage to try the NVidia 430 driver before it died. It didn't work, but it had different symptoms. X wouldn't come up, but I could ctrl-alt-f1 to get to a command line and switch back to nouveau, instead of having to boot to command line. It was replaced with an even older card (GeForce 9500 GT), which also didn't work with the NVidia drivers, and had an unreliable fan, so I had to put an extra fan in the case until I got around to applying a crowbar to the notoriously tight wallet and get a brand new Radeon RX580. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846899 Title: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver on GeForce GT 730 (bionic) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1846899/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If it helps interpreting the logs: when the log file snapshot was taken, I was of course running the Nouveau drivers, 'cause that's the only way the system works. But the boot attempt immediately preceeding that was with the NVidia 390 drivers installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846899 Title: X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1846899/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1846899] [NEW] X won't start at boot with either nvidia driver
Public bug reported: The video card is a GeForce GT 730, which worked well with Ubuntu 16.04. After changing to Xubuntu 18.04, I can only run the Nouveau driver and the lack of acceleration is quite noticeable. When I try to enable the "tested" NVidia driver (390), the system never presents a log-in prompt, I just get a colorful display of large blinking gibberish. I have to go to the boot options, go directly to root prompt, and remove the NVidia driver. This make the system usable again, but I'm back to the Nouveau driver. I get similar symptoms with version 340.107 of the NVidia driver. It's a little hard to collect debug information when I can't get to a prompt to look at log files... Suggestions are welcome. I found that in my situation it was the upgrade not working good with some config settings in my ~/home. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1751892] [NEW] Unable to set different Scale on different Monitors
Public bug reported: My laptop screen is 3840x2160 while my external monitor is only 1680x1050. In order for the laptop monitor to be usable I have the scaling set at 200 (this works wonderful). However, when I plug in my external monitor it is scaled up to 200% as well making it unusable. Attempting to scale one to 100 and the other 200 looks to be possible; however, the Apply button keeps appearing and disappearing randomly with no actual effect. It looks like practically you can only set one scale for both monitors even though the UI looks to be letting you do it. I have tried this on Wayland and Xorg with similar results. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1675364] Re: [Regression] xmir applications fail to render
I get the same behaviour from gedit. It seems any application relying on gnome-session running is going to hang. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1675364] Re: [Regression] xmir applications fail to render
It seems the difference between my two test machines is that one one I had logged in to Unity 7 previously, and that left gnome-session-binary running. After a reboot to kill all systemd --user units, konsole now hangs on both test machines. It looks like this problem is in konsole, which requires gnome-session to be running in order to function normally. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1675364 Title: [Regression] xmir applications fail to render To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1675364/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1671731] Re: [xmir] closing an app while a child window is opened leaves an Xmir process opened eating 100% CPU
This is simple to reproduce. The application has disappeared from the screen but continues to run. It looks like qtmir is closing the window (as requested) but no word gets out to the actual process (ie. there is no session management). I'm suspecting the Unity 8 lifecycle for desktops is not in place yet. Here's a snippet from $HOME/.cahe/upstart/unity8.log. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668429] Re: X apps fail to launch with failure to open display (no Xmir running or no access to it)
The log shows Firefox is being run natively under Unity 8 (no Xmir). Firefox is known to not be built natively for Mir, so it's not a surprise that it it not start. Assuming that an Xmir instance should be launched just in case for any and all applications run under Unity 8 was purposefully disabled to prevent unwanted empty black windows from covering the screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1668429 Title: X apps fail to launch with failure to open display (no Xmir running or no access to it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1668429/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1613708] Re: [regression] Xmir: Some buttons are unclickable after rotating the screen
Updated debdiff after adding new changelog and backporting to Mir 0.21. ** Attachment removed: "debdiff for Xenial SRU" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1613708/+attachment/4739347/+files/debdiff ** Attachment added: "debdiff for Xenial SRU" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1613708/+attachment/4740857/+files/debdiff ** Description changed: [Impact] XMir clients do not have their input transform matrix modified properly when the screen dimensions and orientation change (ie. rotation). This shows up primarily on Bq M10 tablets which rotate on startup. [Test Case] Install XMir on a device that supports screen rotation. Connect a client (using Libertine is the easiest way to do this). Attempt to use direct or indirect pointer input on the right side of the screen. The bug is it does nothing. [Regression Potential] This change affects only the XMir server. There is potential that XMir functionality is compromized but mainline x.org functionality is unaffected. This XMir patch update is pulled directly from Ubuntu current development release "Yakkety Yak" where it has been in production for more than 6 weeks without apparent regressions. [Other Info] The patch update also includes bugfixes for bug #1617925, bug #1617932, and bug #1591356. + + This patch differs from the patch in Ubuntu "Yakkety Yak" to compile + with Mir 0.21. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1613708] Re: [regression] Xmir: Some buttons are unclickable after rotating the screen
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + XMir clients do not have their input transform matrix modified properly + when the screen dimensions and orientation change (ie. rotation). + + This shows up primarily on Bq M10 tablets which rotate on startup. + + [Test Case] + + Install XMir on a device that supports screen rotation. Connect a + client (using Libertine is the easiest way to do this). Attempt to use + direct or indirect pointer input on the right side of the screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1564920] [NEW] x.org server fails to start when $TMPDIR is set
Public bug reported: When the Xmir server is run on a device or desktop under Unity 8 it fails to start with the following error messages. [xkb] Can't rename /run/user/32011/confined/com.ubuntu.sdk/fileSgDXpU to /tmp/server-B20D7FC79C7F597315E3E501AEF10E0D866E8E92.xkm, error: Invalid cross-device link XKB: Failed to compile keymap Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config. (EE) Fatal server error: (EE) Failed to activate core devices.(EE) We traced the problem down to the fact that the $TMPDIR is set in the environment and points to a confined location in the /run filesystem, and x.org uses the hardcoded path of /tmp which is a different filesystem. A Ubuntu-specific patch to the x.org server attempts to rename the .xkm file across filesystems (which is not allowed). To avoid this error the Ubuntu-speicific patch to cache the xkb file should also patch the hardcoded /tmp to use $TMPDUR if it is set. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1564920 Title: x.org server fails to start when $TMPDIR is set To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1564920/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1526079] Re: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1526079] Re: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible
Could you share a little technical background on how the BIOS could affect what seems to be a problem manifested either in X or the Intel display driver? I'm not saying it couldn't play a role, but it seems extremely likely that the problem lies in one of those places. I've been unsuccessful so far in attempts to update the BIOS, as Lenovo makes this process somewhat more difficult for users without Windows. The problem happened again today; While moving the cursor from monitor to another, it disappeared, and now it is only drawn on the external display. I can still hover/select/click things on the primary display, but the cursor is not drawn graphically. I would still greatly appreciate any suggestions for things that I can do when this does happen which would help narrow down what is happening and lead me closer to a repro. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1526079 Title: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1526079/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

My display configuration is a little unusual and uses hidpi, defined by the following commands: xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 2880x1620 --panning 2880x1620 --scale 1x1 --primary --dpi 250 xrandr --output DP2-1 --mode 2560x1440 --panning 3840x2160+2880+0 --scale 1.5x1.5 --dpi 144 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-18.22-generic 4.2.3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-18-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Dec 14 13:49:18 2015 DistUpgraded: 2015-11-03 14:44:11,845 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: wily DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: vboxhost, 5.0.4, 3.19.0-31-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-16-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-19-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2210] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-06-24 (538 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140416.2) MachineType: LENOVO 20BECTO1WW ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-18-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=022a17a0-1dc9-4b5c-ad86-912739c13a73 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-11-03 (40 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 03/19/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GMET62WW (2.10 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20BECTO1WW dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0E50512 Std dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGMET62WW(2.10):bd03/19/2014:svnLENOVO:pn20BECTO1WW:pvrThinkPadT540p:rvnLENOVO:rn20BECTO1WW:rvrSDK0E50512Std:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20BECTO1WW dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T540p dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+15.10.20151015-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.64-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0+git20150819-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20150808-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu3 xserver.bootTime: Fri Dec 11 17:18:06 2015 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 10147 vendor ACI xserver.version: 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 ubuntu wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1526079 Title: Mouse cursor sometimes becomes invisible To manage notifications about this bug go to:

I have recently seen an increase in unexpected X crashes while using my machine, sending me back to the login screen and losing the state of my open applications. I use a ThinkPad T540p with Intel graphics and Ubuntu 15.10 (upgraded from 15.04). I use Xrandr to configure and position my external and internal displays, including the use of the --panning/--scale/--dpi options to help my external display behave more like my internal HiDPI display (in case that's relevant to this problem). I heavily use PhpStorm, a JetBrains IDE from their IDEA family built in Java. The last two times this crash has happened to me (Friday and today), I was interacting with the IDE at the time. I saved a copy of Xorg.0.log.old both times and will attempt to attach both to this report (their backtraces differ a bit). During the first crash I believe I was simply interacting with the UI in some way; During the second crash, I had just clicked the window decoration's "X" button to close PhpStorm. Please let me know if there's something I can do to help diagnose the crash further. In the meantime, I've installed the -dbg packages for xorg-core and xorg-video-intel in the hopes that future backtraces might be more useful. If I see this crash again, I'll post the log here in the comments. Yes, both are installed. Looking at the segmentation fault hotspot log from my java application, it says libwayland and mesa-egl are being loaded.
