[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615871] Re: Poor performance with WebKit on yakkety with Intel modesetting enabled

2017-03-10 Thread bagl0312
@jbicha thanks for you explanation.

So does it mean that the bug 1628866 is not a duplicated of this one ?
Or that I am affected by another bug ? I saw around a few report about
the same problem with chrome (in ubuntu 16.10 and 16.04).

I checked that also chromium is affected

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615871] Re: Poor performance with WebKit on yakkety with Intel modesetting enabled

2017-03-10 Thread bagl0312
I am cross posting here my comment about chrome being slow in ubuntu
16.04.2 when multiple chrome windows are opened on different workspaces:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1628866/comments/7

The #1628866 bug is marked as duplicated of this, however I am not sure
that the problem is WebKitGTK.

Is there a way to test the new WebKit release on ubuntu 16.04 ?

   Thanks

I think the patch will be never backported to the kernel 3.19 and ubuntu 14.04.
Probably you should consider update to 16.04, it should be reasonably smooth

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-12-15 Thread bagl0312
ok,
after further googling it turned out these up-right and bottom-right top
shortcuts for middle and right button are default in Ubuntu (and not specific
of our trackpad).
So the new driver is working as expected.

For those finding very annoying the accidental middle button click when
tapping the up-right part of the trackpad there is a workaround to
disable it using the synclient command:

synclient RTCornerButton=0 ! disable up-right middle click
synclient RBCornerButton=0 ! disable bottom-right right click

You can also put the above commands in the "startup applications
preferences" control panel to make them persistent after a reboot

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-12-12 Thread bagl0312
I am using the newly released 4.9, but the same "feature"was present in
the previous rcX versions:

uname -a
Linux nbbag7 4.9.0-040900-generic #201612111631 SMP Sun Dec 11 21:33:00 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

BTW,I am noticing now that tapping with a single finger on the lower-
right part of the trackpad is equivalent of a right-click.

So it seems that there are some default gestures on the upper/lower-right part
that are not understood by the current driver and are enabled by default.
I don't know if this can be considered a bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-12-12 Thread bagl0312
Hi,
I am using since a few weeks the kernel 4.9 with my dell e7370 abd the touchpad
is recognized.

I have however an annoying problem which happens quite often.

With the "tap to click" option enabled, when I tap the touchpad sometime
the behavior is quite unreliable.

For example:

1) Tapping on a tab of the chrome browser close the tab (instead of selecting
it)
2) Tapping on a text entering field works as a "paste", instead of simply
activating the field

Is someone else observing this problem?

@chmelab @pmonas indeed I was wondering if this kind of fix are expected to be
backported to relevant older kernels.
In this case it should be backported at least to the 4.4.x series.

I have experience of other bug fixes backported to previous kernel
versions, so this should be the case also for this fix. I just would
like to be sure that the right developers are informed that this is a
very annoying issue which deserves a fix as soon as possible for the LTS
distributions

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-11-01 Thread bagl0312
Regarding my post #24, I think a better workaround, instead of changing
.Xmodmap,
is to add the following line to the file:

~/.xinputrc

xinput set-button-map "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse" 1 2 3 5 4 6 7

in this way only the two-finger scrolling direction of the unrecognized
touchpad will be inverted, while the wheel scrolling direction of an external
mouse will not be modified.

In addition, due to some bug in unity/gnome not all the applications interpret
correctly .xinputrc/.Xmodmap commands. So for example chrome/firefox will be
ok, but nautilus windows will still use the "natural" scrolling, regardless of
.xinputrc/.Xmodmap content.
I did not find a solution to solve these inconsistencies.

The only real solution will be of course a proper support of our
touchpad at kernel level

2016-10-07 Thread bagl0312
I found a workaround to invert the two finger scrolling behavior.
It is enough to add a file .Xmodmap in the home dir with the following content:

$ cat .Xmodmap
pointer = 1 2 3 5 4 6 7 8 9 10

(note that the forth and fifth numbers are swapped)

This invert the two finger scrolling direction, but unfortunately also
the direction of scrolling of the wheel of an external mouse, if used...

Anyway, for those using only the touchpad I think it is a good,
temporary compromise :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-29 Thread bagl0312
Hello,
I was affected by the a similar bug on a dell XPS M1330 since the upgrade to
12.04 (with nvidia graphics and nouveau drivers).
In particular closing the lid with Do nothing when lid is closed in the
power settings was always leaving me with a unusable desktop session after
opening the lid (i.e. only the mouse pointer was moving).

I did a sequence of things that solved the problem for me:
first I resumed my session a couple of times using the commands described on
post #41,

then in the power settings I first selected Suspend as action when lid
is closed, then I put back Do nothing.

After this the problem disappeared magically

Sorry for not beiing more precise, but probably it can help somebody
else with a similar problem

I am affected by the same bug. The freeze happens every time I

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380126] Re: [Karmic] Touchpad not recognised correctly, synaptics driver not in use

2010-11-15 Thread bagl0312
@Odin I don't know if this bug is really a duplicated of 359363 or
550625

In Bug 550625 I found a solution which enables the scrolling with the
touchpad of my Dell M4500:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550625

The solution described (see #154, #203 and other entries) is based on
recompiling psmouse.ko module with the patch described in #154.
After installing the recompiled module the scrolling works, even if the
touchpad is still not recognized in gnome-mouse-properties.

I tested it in 10.10 64 bits.

For your convenience I report here the list of commands needed to
recompile the module:

1) Install kernel headers:
 sudo apt-get build-dep --no-install-recommends linux-image-$(uname -r)
 apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)

this creates a linux-[your-version] directory into your home

install git:
 sudo apt-get install git

change into it:
 cd src/drivers/input/mouse

and backup alps.c, alps.h, psmouse.h

apply patch (take the patch from entry #154 above):

patch -p0 2.6.35-alps-730264-imps-emulation.patch

make install:
 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd` psmouse.ko
 sudo rmmod psmouse
 sudo cp psmouse.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/input/mouse/
 sudo modprobe psmouse

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!

2010-10-24 Thread bagl0312
People still having problems with suspend/resume may also try this
(thanks to Brian who sent me this advice)

Add the following line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_sleep=nonvs

to /etc/default/grub

Then make:
sudo update-grub
and reboot

Suspend/resume should work now

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/656631

It worked with kernel 2.6.35 and nvidia 260.19.12 on my dell M4500

2010-10-21 Thread bagl0312
I confirm that with kernel 2.6.36 the suspend/resume works on dell precision
M4500.
I am also using latest nvidia drivers 260.19.12

I tried 260.19.12 on DELL precision M4500 workstation and graphic card Quadro
FX 880M with ubuntu 10.10 64bits.
dmesg errors disappeared but there are still problems with suspend/resume. The
machine goes in suspend mode but never wakeup

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (Radeon 7500)

2009-11-08 Thread bagl0312
Putting simply:

 Option AGPSize 32

as suggested by Tormod doesn't work for me.
gnome-appeareance-properties refuses to switch desktop effects on.

If I add:
Option BusType PCI
desktop effects can be enabled but gdm is unstable: the screen gets all black
if I open a few firefox windows.

Increasing AGPSize to 64 works but I get a kernel panic few minutes
after logon if I open several windows.

To have a stable system I have to put all the options below in the
Device section:

Section Device
Driver ati
Identifier Radeon 9200
Option BusType PCI
Option AccelMethod EXA
Option MigrationHeuristic greedy
Option AGPSize 64
EndSection

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (Radeon 7500)

2009-11-08 Thread bagl0312
I found that if I decrease the AGPSize to 32 I can get rid of some
options.

The following is the minimal set:

Section Device
Driver ati
Identifier Radeon 9200
Option BusType PCI
Option AGPSize 32
EndSection

It is strange that I have to put a so low AGP size since my card should
have 128MB of memory:

lspci -vv gives the following:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO]
(rev 01)
Subsystem: Hightech Information System Ltd. Device 2020
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium TAbort-
TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- INTx-
Latency: 32 (2000ns min), Cache Line Size: 32 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
Region 0: Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]

[virtual] Expansion ROM at fa00 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel modules: radeon, radeonfb

I can open a new bug if needed
