[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1710051] Re: xorg crash/freeze when Chrome uses WebGL, caused by: GPU HANG: ... chrome ... reason: Hang on render ring, action: reset

2018-07-23 Thread Maarten Jacobs
I have been seeing this similar issue for some time but hadn't gotten to
looking into it. My system was also running with the subject driver:

xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.2
amd64X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

My graphics card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT
610] (rev a1)

For experimentation sake, I switched to NVidia proprietary drivers... To
see if that helps any (for my case).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-05-18 Thread maarten
Upgrading to a non-LTS version has it's downsides, and I have read
reports of people that experience the same problems after upgrading up
to 17.04.

I now installed an Intel version of the 21.20.16.4590 driver for Windows
10 from the Lenovo website, but it's actually not meant for the P50
laptop with Intel P530 graphics but for the X260 and T460 instead with
Intel P520 graphics:

   http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/nl/en/downloads/ds105823.

It installed without complaining though, but I don't know if it also
tried to replace the graphics firmware ...

... the mouse pointer is still flickering and dissapearing though.

I'll try to get Lenovo's attention on this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1664397] Re: Mouse trails and distorted cursor on 2nd monitor

2017-05-17 Thread maarten
First of all I do have to mention: I do not have mouse trails, but only
a dissapearing and flickering mouse cursor!

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS running in a dualboot configuration with a
(preinstalled) Windows Pro with a bunch of drivers managed by Lenovo.
The Intel P530 graphics driver in windows is updated upto 21.20.16.4550.
On the Lenovo support website there is talk about a version
21.20.16.4590, but when I click on the link they mention, it brings me
back to the 21.20.16.4550 driver instead.

See:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Update-for-Intel-graphics-driver-on-P50/td-p/3597712

And also the mentioned link to ...4590 ... which turns about to be the 4550
version:
http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/nl/en/downloads/ds119528

What am I missing?

Updating firmware from Windows doesn't do it for me, but that might be
because I've got a preinstalled Windows with a Lenovo-supplied version
of the Intel driver. Windows works fine with it and I would like to keep
it running fine ofcourse. gibbs-edward: Did you install the latest Intel
P530 driver instead?

Interesting indeed! Seeing as things worked fine in Vivid I'm assuming it's

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2015-08-25 Thread maarten
I have the same problem. Mouse flickering on two of my three screens.
I have two video-cards, both ATI HD6770 (Not in cross-fire).
One card is only connected to one monitor, the other is connected with two
monitors.
Only on the vga-card connected with two monitors, the mouse cursor flickers.
I am using MATE desktop and it started when using hardware acceleration on
desktop.
Switching hardware acceleration off, clears the problem.
But I wanted transparent terminals and all the other fancy stuff.

So after installing ccm (Compiz configuration manager) and playing around with
it, I can fix the problem very simple.
BUT, only until I reboot the system. Then I have to do the same thing over
again.

I have to go to ccm.
Click on the opengl settings.
Disable Framebuffer object. And then immediately enable it.
And the problem is gone until the next reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424980] [NEW] [ffe] xorg-server 1.17

2015-02-24 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

Changes since v1.16:
- Adam continues to strip out stale code and clean up the server. Thousands of
lines of unnecessary code have disappeared yet again.
- The modesetting driver has been merged into the server code base, simplifying
ongoing maintenance by coupling it to the X server ABI/API release schedule.
This now includes DRI2 support (so that GLX works correctly) along with Glamor
support (which handles DRI3).
- Lots of Glamor improvements, including a rewrite of the core protocol
rendering functions

I would have uploaded it before feature freeze, but fglrx isn't ready
yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400626] Re: Please backport xtrans, libdrm, x11proto-{fonts, core} packages for 14.04.2

2015-02-05 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I needed to do something like apt-get install xserver-xorg-lts-utopic
libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic:i386

John Gilbertson (blackcap93) wrote on 2015-01-29: #13
The new xorg/mesa packages should, but don't, have a "Provides:
" field in the Debian control file, to avoid
breaking other installed packages which depend on the older xorg/mesa packages
by name; for example, the lib-gl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic package's control file
should contain "Provides: lib-gl1-mesa-glx"

$ apt-cache show libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic | grep Provides
Provides: libgl1, libgl1-mesa-glx, xorg-renamed-package,
xorg-renamed-package-lts-utopic

Although the provides: libgl1 should be enough in this case, no need for
an explicit libgl1-mesa-glx but it's there anyway. ;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414999] [NEW] double free in mir egl display when calling eglTerminate and gbm_device_destroy

2015-01-27 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

In my standalone Xmir I do the following things:

/* Init code */
if (xmir_screen->gbm) /* NULL on !mesa */
mir_connection_drm_set_gbm_device(xmir_screen->conn, xmir_screen->gbm);

xmir_screen->egl_display =
eglGetDisplay(mir_connection_get_egl_native_display(xmir_screen->conn));

/* Shutdown code */
eglTerminate(xmir_screen->egl_display);

if (xmir_screen->gbm)
gbm_device_destroy(xmir_screen->gbm);

This works as expected when gbm is NULL, but I'm getting a double free in
gbm_device_destroy with the eglTerminate.
Calling eglGetDisplay(xmir_screen->gbm) instead works as expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412441] [NEW] [MIR] libclc

2015-01-19 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

Availability:
- Already in universe and available on applicable archs.

Rationale:
- Allows enabling support for OpenCL in mesa.

Security:
- No files installed suid, sgid.
- No binaries installed in sbin.
- Not a plugin to security sensitive software.
- Not a daemon or opening a sensitive port.

Quality assurance:
- Should work without configuration.
- No debconf questions.
- No long-term outstanding bugs and updates by debian.

The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's bug
tracking systems must be evaluated. Links to these bug trackers need to be
provided in the MIR report. Important bugs must be pointed out and discussed in
the MIR report.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?ordering=normal;archive=0;src=libclc;dist=unstable;repeatmerged=0
 - No open bugs found.
1 bug found in ubuntu's bug tracker. Likely a user error because with manual
bug verification it's shown that the bug is invalid.
Package is used for nvidia and r600 opencl support.
Testsuite cannot run, it requires the proprietary nvidia drivers.
debian/watch is empty, but explained in debian/watch why.

UI standards:
Not applicable.

Dependencies:
clang is in universe, but the clang source package llvm is in main.

Standards compliance:
Should meet standard, no lintian overrides or warnings.

Maintenance:
Simple package, low maintenance effort, and maintained well in Debian.

Background information:
Required to enable opencl support in mesa. Mesa will need clang too, so the
added deps will be needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1410238] [NEW] Rotating external display with optimus results in corruption

2015-01-13 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
 * Black screen when attempting to rotating external display in affected
configurations.

[Test Case]
 * Run a system with a internal nvidia card, and 2 displays on the intel card.
(Usually LCD screen + external VGA/DVI screen.)
 * Run xrandr --output --rotate left
 * Expect a normal, rotated screen.
 * Bad behavior is a black screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1400626] Re: Please backport xtrans, libdrm, x11proto-{fonts, core} packages for 14.04.2

2014-12-09 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
** Tags added: lts-utopic trusty

** Description changed:

In order to upload the new xorg-server we need to backport the following
packages from utopic:
  libdrm
- x11proto-core
+ x11proto-core
  x11proto-fonts
  xtrans

libdrm 2.4.52-1->2.4.56-1 seems to have the following changes:
  - Hides private symbols from all libdrm libraries
  - fixes MSAA on Hawaii (radeon).
  - Adds cherryview pci-ids (intel).
  - Makes libdrm-nouveau threadsafe with concurrent access to the drm fd.
  - Fixes to exynos and freedreno.
  - Enables building libdrm-freedreno1 and libdrm-exynos1

x11proto-core's main change appears to be changing from the 'pointer' type to
'void *':

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/173873109/x11proto-core_7.0.24-1_7.0.26-1.diff.gz

x11proto-fonts' main change is the same as x11proto-core, but the
documentation is reformatted too:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/173873038/x11proto-fonts_2.1.2-1_2.1.3-1.diff.gz

xtrans seems to have 2 minor changes, increase default unix pipe size and add
support for systemd socket activation:
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/173873112/xtrans_1.3.2-1_1.3.4-1.diff.gz
+
+ xorg needs to be slightly updated, to allow xserver-xorg to provide the
+ unrenamed lts-utopic, and to allow xorg to be installed with the renamed
+ xorg-server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386620] Re: re-enable rotation for the intel driver in optimus mode

2014-11-10 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I've verified xorg-server rotation works correctly. On utopic I had
issues with rotation, when using xrandr --output HDMI1 --rotate left in
normal mode. Bisecting it shows it was caused by introducing dri3
support, and cherry picking some upstream patches fixed it. The trusty
patches to xxv-intel don't introduce dri3 support so it's unaffected by
the hang I've discovered.

But on trusty with those patches rotation works for me as it should. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386620] [NEW] re-enable rotation for the intel driver in optimus mode

2014-10-28 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
 * The fix for bug #1308515 prevents rotation from being used.
 * Rotation support should be added to the intel driver to maintain feature
parity when optimus is used vs when not in use.

[Test Case]
 * Run xrandr --output SOMEOUTPUT --rotation left
- Expected: Screen should rotate.
- Bad behavior: Succeeds, but causes a black screen. OR the call fails, and
screen is not rotated.

[Regression Potential]
 * Will probably regress when modesetting is used, a separate patch might be
needed to disable transforms on modesetting. Will have to be tested.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365490] Re: ubuntu 12.04.5 broken on VMware

2014-10-01 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Hey,

The package correctly mentions utopic, see this package in -updates:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1

Unfortunately I mistakenly uploaded a git snapshot at one point to
ubuntu instead of a ppa, so it generates a debdiff not against
10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1, but against that git snapshot.

I'll attach a debdiff against 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1 to this bug, and re-
upload it again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1323006] Re: touchpad too sensitive. focus jumps all over document on text input

Well, on trusty XRecord was not working, so -R was a noop.

I've uploaded a fix for trusty to ppa:canonical-x/x-staging . Could you
try that package and see if you get the same issues as utopic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365490] Re: ubuntu 12.04.5 broken on VMware

2014-09-30 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ A user might find Ubuntu 12.04.5 unusable on vmware because he would
+ face a black screen after logging in. Although there is a workaround
+ (disabling 3D) a user may have given up at that point.
+
+ Backporting will help the user run the distro after upgrading, so I
+ believe it's highly justified.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ On VMware Workstation 10, Install Ubuntu 12.04.5, preferrably using "easy
install".
+ Boot the VM, log in. You'll see a black screen only.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The bug affects a function that impots a shared buffer to the 3D driver.
+ The function is completely broken by the bug. Even if the patch should
+ introduce another type of breakage, the problem couldn't be much worse
+ than it already is, and should be confined to the specific function in
+ question.
+
+ [Other info]
+
+ Due to different stack ordering of automatic variables, the bug may or
+ may not be visible depending on the C compiler and the level of
+ optimization used. For example, if -O0 -g is used the bug is not visible
+ on 12.04.5. I have not encountered any symptoms of the bug yet on 14.04.
+
+ [ Original bug report ]
Ubuntu 12.04.5 shows a black screen after login with 3D enabled on
VMware. This is due to a bug in the svga gallium driver's winsys.

It's recently fixed in mesa master commit 2d6206140a, "winsys/svga: Fix
incorrect type usage in IOCTL v2", with a request to backport to mesa
stable, but I'm not sure whether anyone's still maintaining the 10.1 branch.

Due to the severity of the symptoms it would be greatly appreciated if
this fix could be incorporated in the
libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-trusty package as soon as possible.

Unfortunately it's affecting the package on the installation iso. Is
there anything that can be done about that?

  Thanks,
  Thomas

2014-09-30 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
This has been fixed in utopic by moving to mesa 10.3.

mesa-lts-trusty and mesa in trusty are still affected, I'll prepare a
fix for them.

I don't think the images can be redone. The trusty 14.04.2 dvd will have
the utopic stack which will be fixed, but precise will no longer have
new iso's.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364003] Re: [FFE] mesa 10.3

2014-09-29 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Hey,

It is my opinion the autopkgtests themselves were broken, but I've added
explicit depends in mesa to always force libgl1-mesa-dri to be installed
when libgl1-mesa-dri, libegl1-mesa or libgbm1 are installed.

This allows the tests to run correctly again, and presumably fixes the
armhf tests too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1374131] Re: qtcreator-plugin autopkgtest fails on AMD64 mesa mesa_10.3.0

2014-09-29 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Ok, it also seems that libgbm1 was pulling in libgl1-mesa-dri directly
in 10.2.6, this is why libgl1-mesa-dri was installed in the first place.

/usr/lib/$ARCH/gbm/gbm_gallium_drm.so was linking to the shared
libgallium.so . This no longer happens with 10.3.0 because we drop the
patches that build gallium shared, because upstream handles it better.

I would say this proves that the tests are all broken and need to add an
explicit depend on libgl1-mesa-dri somewhere.

But since this has been going on for so long I think the easiest thing
to do is fixing up the mesa packaging for backwards compatability.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1374131] Re: qtcreator-plugin autopkgtest fails on AMD64 mesa mesa_10.3.0

2014-09-29 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I've managed to reproduce this. This seems to be caused because swrast is now
linked into the gallium megablob as well.
Before llvmpipe was statically linked into libGL.so

Adding a depends on libgl1-mesa-dri to libegl1-mesa and libgl1-mesa-glx
should fix things. I'm verifying this in a ppa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364003] Re: [FFE] mesa 10.3

2014-09-24 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I've done some more testing just in case, and it looks like there are no
regressions on llvmpipe on 32-bits or 64-bits, only new tests passing.

I've also done a comparison of 32-bits llvmpipe against 64-bits, and it
looks like there's probably a small issue on the teximage-colors with
GL_UNSIGNED_INT. This is not a regression though, it was already the
case in 10.2.6.

Depending on the problems I might be able to fix them myself. I would
also like to note that at least with nouveau I haven't encountered any
yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364003] Re: [FFE] mesa 10.3

2014-09-23 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
No idea, but it seems those bugs are probably just bugs in kde5, since I
don't hit them with 10.3 on amd64/i386, but I can reproduce something
similar with the kde5 ppa, without updating mesa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2014-09-18 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
In the broken configuration, can you run:
DISPLAY=:0 xset dpms force on ?

My own ivy bridge works with the 331 drivers. I'll try on my SNB.
