[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579653] Re: 10.04 - Xorg Crash: Video device settings could not be detected correctly

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
joseielpi, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579653] Re: 10.04 - Xorg Crash: Video device settings could not be detected correctly

2010-07-12 Thread joseielpi

Due to hardware problem, I had to quit using the Samsung Syncmaster monitor.
I've changed it to an IBM E74 model. Since then the problem mentioned got
worst, since I could not even login to X, (I filed Bug #586090). People
helping out there suggested, just like in this bug, to install current mainline
kernel. After a lot mistakes trying to do so, I finally did. From then on, the
problem has reverted to this, the original one: I can log in again, but X
crashes just like before. Upon entering safe graphics mode, I now get this new
error message: Error: (EE) open/dev/fbo: no such file or directory.
If someone could tell me how to use the mainline kernel to facilitate further
information, I'd be glad to. Thanks.

I have the same problem with a Viglen P4 desktop. It crashed every time
I started VirtualBox. I tried the ppa, and things are slightly better
now (I can run VirtualBox), but I still get a crash or freeze every once

@thsths - Unless you have Intel 945 graphics you have a different
problem and should file a new bug. Even if you have Intel 945 graphics
the fact that your crash is triggered by starting VirtualBox also
suggests that you have a different problem and should file a new bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579653] Re: 10.04 - Xorg Crash: Video device settings could not be detected correctly

2010-05-27 Thread Eduardo Ribeiro Rodrigues
I have same problem with Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel chipset and using
both kernel 2.6.32-22 and 2.6.34-020634.

In my case, the issue never happened while I'm actively using the system
but after a long idle time (usually during night time).

Maybe another important info is that I'm using a Trendnet 409K 4 port
KVM switch and, during the idle time before the problem happens, the KVM
is never selected on the Ubuntu machine.

2010-05-13 Thread madbiologist
That's OK. If it's a desktop it might not have a make and model,
particularly if it was assembled at your local computer store. It seems
to have an ASRock motherboard with an AMI BIOS and a Samsung Syncmaster
monitor. We can be definitely sure that it has an Intel Pentium Dual
Core E2180 CPU running at 2.00GHz, and most importantly it has Intel 945
graphics.

This is occurring after logging in, right?

If you are feeling up to it, you can get more info for us by installing
the latest drm-intel-next mainline kernel from the PPA at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/ and then
boot and attach the info requested in the How to Get a Batchbuffer Dump
(-intel only) section of the Troubleshooting X freezes, hangs, and
lockups wiki at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze

2010-05-13 Thread joseielpi
Checked and yes, you're wright: ASRock motherboard, AMI BIOS and Samsung
Syncmaster 732N. Also the CPU and graphics are the ones you mentioned.
The issue happens after logging in, specially if nothing is done for a few
minutes.
I'm trying to install the drm-intel-next kernel, but I keep getting a wrong
architecture message, both with i386 and amd64 versions. I'll keep trying.
Thanks!
