[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
Alright, thanks for all the feedback. Given that the boxes go away when logged out, and that Denver is on -radeon whereas Andreas is -intel, it is likely sounding not to be a driver issue. It is probably compiz doing something wrong. I see there are similar bugs against compiz, #940603 and #753606, but the symptoms differ, so not setting as dupe. (940603 is also against chromium, so may be pertinent) ** Package changed: mesa (Ubuntu) = compiz (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/935630 Title: White rectangular To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/935630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Bryce, Yes, I just reproduced it with mesa 8.0.1. The issue I reported above happened with Chromium, just as before. Hi Fabio, I did not specifically try dragging it in that way before I closed it (by logging out). I suspect it would not have worked (the drag operation would have applied to the window behind it) because generally I was not able to interact with the white window itself (operations always applied to the window behind it, as if the white window wasn't there). It's possible that I dragged a window behind the white window using Alt+left click; I certainly never noticed a case where I used Alt+left click and happened to drag the white window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/935630 Title: White rectangular To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/935630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
Here's what I mentioned to Bryce about this issue in a comment on bug #933778 (a likely unrelated bug): I also noticed (and this is probably the topic for a new bug report), that a particular operation in Chromium caused a new window to appear, which is completely white, always on top, not associated with any application, and difficult/impossible to close. I noticed that after this happened, compiz is now consistently using exactly 24% of my CPU according to top. The particular operation seemed to involve having the autocomplete dropdown activated while also doing Ctrl+N, though I can't remember exactly what combination of things were going on at that time. I'll provide more details if it happens again, but the window is still there if there's some diagnostics I can run to see what it is. Since that was written, I no longer see compiz using 24% CPU; it has fallen back to normal levels (about 2-5%). Note that though this white window is always on top, it is not clickable; any mouse operations affect the window behind it (for example, I can select text in a browser window that is behind it and the cursor changes to the text select cursor when I hover over text in a window behind the white window). As you can see, I was able to take screenshots of this issue. It seems that the white window is tied to all workspaces, but not to the X display itself (since showing the workspace switcher moves the white window onto each of the displayed workspaces; it does not keep the white window on top of the workspace switcher itself). If you need any more info about this issue while it is still present, please let me know soon. I plan to logout and log back in by the end of today as it's impeding my workspace. The bug does not seem easy to reproduce; I haven't seen a new white window since I managed to create one yesterday. The steps for reproducing in the quoted section above are the best I have. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/935630 Title: White rectangular To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/935630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Interesting, thanks for the pictures Denver. So, this is starting to look much like a compositing issue of some sort. Let's check a couple things to be sure: First, try logging in to Unity2D and see if you can reproduce it there. If so, then also try Gnome Classic (No Effects) - install the 'gnome- panel' package and that should add this option to your login session. If you find it only occurs in Unity, then it may be a mesa issue. I have a PPA with a mesa update we're currently testing, which fixes some random bugs on -intel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
Hi Uros, do you have a digital camera or cell phone? Take a picture of the screen showing the white box. (The size, position, color, etc. can clue developers into how the video memory is misbehaving.) About how long after the session start does the white box appear? Does logging out and logging back in make it go away? How about switching to a virtual terminal and back? Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular
I will try to reproduce and make a photo. Yesterday the box covered almost 80% of the screen. I think it started after few minutes and logging of makes it go away. 2012/2/22 Bryce Harrington 935...@bugs.launchpad.net Hi Uros, do you have a digital camera or cell phone? It is half of the screen wide and two icons in unity high. It is covering the icons and the destop. Print screen does not take the picture of it. I have it there for a week at least. It is not there from the start of session, but it shows up latter. I do not now why it shows. I was using chrome and update only.
