We have had intermittent issues with USPS, also (4800 Beaumont).

As a result, we switched our mail to a PO box. It isn't terribly
convenient, but we are rarely in a rush to get our bills anyway ... but
it's useful for when receiving non-UPS non-FedEX packages.

Ruthann,
I really am sorry to hear about your difficulties with mail service. Just to
share a slightly different experience: I live one block away from you, in the
4800 block of Osage Avenue and have not had any problems with mail delivery.
We continue to have our regular postman except for the occasional subs. I
would be happy to ask him tomorrow about the situation on Pine Street.

RE: [UC] USPS delivery issues

2007-12-13 Thread Ruthann Auten

Thank you all for your responses. I actually discoverd that the Kingsessing
post office is responsible for the delivery of my mail. I contacted them and
was told that someone would talk to the mail carrier to find out what is going
on, however the mail carrier is new and this has been going on for months so I
am not sure if this will do any good. Since I was not satisfied with the
response that I received, I also faxed over a request for assistance to Senator
Specter's office--the form can be found here in case anyone else is interested
in filling one out
http://specter.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ConstituentServices.RequestForAssistance

The post office at Kingsessing is supposed to get back to me tomorrow about
what the mail carrier said. At that point, if I am still not satisfied with
the response or if they do not get back to me, I will try to log a formal
complaint with the USPS. Maybe if everyone who is having problems with their
mail calls and complains tomorrow we can get something accomplished--I won't
hold my breath :)

This raises a question: if we're going to place the blame on a
particular post office (namely Kingsessing/19143), does the quality of
postal service markedly change when one crosses Spruce (heading into
19139 territory) or 45th (19104)?

Dear Al and Ruthann,

All I know is some of my ex-students who were thugs when I taught them in
Elementary School, who subsequently dropped out and I see again work at UPS
in South Philly on Oregon Ave. right above Delaware Ave.

The Kingsessing post office has ALWAYS been comprised of knaves, rogues, and
blackguards, who revel in assisting costumers at below slug¹s pace.

I dealt with them for many years as Secretary of Cedar Park Neighbors.

I cannot fathom how awful they must be now.

Hi

Add me to the the list of 19104 zip code problems - we're on 45th Street.
We get other peoples' mail on a regular basis. And I'm not talking "spam",
I'm talking things like mail from Social Security, insurance papers, etc.
And I've personally been having problems getting my own mail delivered.
Little things like ... bank statements. I just love the idea that someone,
somewhere is getting that kind of information.

I don't know what the answer is. Just seems that service is getting
sloppier and sloppier, while postage rates keep going up.

I too am on 45th St.

This summer we got a new post carrier. I was used to having my mail
delivered before 11:00 AM. I barely receive it before 5 PM.

For what it¹s worth, our new post carrier¹s name is Brendetta. (Yes, THAT¹S
right!) I have seen her round the area much earlier and speak to her, but
never get my mail until nearly 5PM. I also get spoonerized post address¹
letters by mistake

Go figure.

None of this sounds new. For the 16 years that we lived in the 4300 block
of Pine, we had constant problems with mail delivery. Frequently got mail
for the wrong house number or the wrong street, so we were pretty sure that
some of our mail was going astray as well. We always tried to drop the mail
off at the correct address, and occasionally had others do the same for us.
Complaints to the post office did nothing.

In the three years that we've lived at 49th and Chancellor, our mail
delivery has been wonderful. We still get some mail for the former
(deceased) owners of the house, but everything seems to go to the right
address, and always before noon. Just for reference, we're now in 39, and
our post office is at 51st and Sansom.

Ditto what Elisabeth wrote about Charles—who is the current postman
around S. 46th St.—and his predecessor, who (I heard) felt
unappreciated. Which means no one tipped him at Christmastime, for
which he was increasingly unpleasant each subsequent new year.

After what could have been a decade of Mr. Glum, who never ever
responded to “hello,” I’m very grateful for Charles. I think there’s
more to delivering mail than just putting the right envelopes through
the slot—though I do appreciate when that happens, too. Charles is full
of good energy, and his deliveries have been accurate.

always asks after the baby by name, and is very easygoing about the
dog trying to get at him through the glass.  And this, on the infamous
4600 block of Hazel!  All I can say is that it seems we're getting all
our mail and everything's in order.

None of this sounds new.  For the 16 years that we lived in the 4300
block of Pine, we had constant problems with mail delivery.
Frequently got mail for the wrong house number or the wrong street, so
we were pretty sure that some of our mail was going astray as well.
We always tried to drop the mail off at the correct address, and
occasionally had others do the same for us.  Complaints to the post
office did nothing.

In the three years that we've lived at 49th and Chancellor, our mail
delivery has been wonderful.  We still get some mail for the former
(deceased) owners of the house, but everything seems to go to the
right address, and always before noon.  Just for reference, we're now
in 39, and our post office is at 51st and Sansom.

Here is another cheer for Charles. In fact, since he started, I have stopped
receiving Elizabeth's mail on Cedar Av.

Ditto what Elisabeth wrote about Charles—who is the current postman around S.
46th St.—and his predecessor, who (I heard) felt unappreciated. Which means no
one tipped him at Christmastime, for which he was increasingly unpleasant each
subsequent new year. After what could have been a decade of Mr. Glum, who never
ever responded to “hello,” I’m very grateful for Charles. I think there’s more
to delivering mail than just putting the right envelopes through the
slot—though I do appreciate when that happens, too. Charles is full of good
energy, and his deliveries have been accurate. Martha LedgerOn Friday, December

Just to throw my info in, we used to get mail delivered reasonably well by a

Like, super duper amiable and he even remembers my mom's name and she doesn't
even live in this state. He always asks after the baby by name, and is very

I talked to our regular mailmen yesterday about your problem (his route does
not include Pine Street) and he said there have been long standing problems
partly due to the fact that residents do not include their apartment number as
part of their address. This may be an explanation for why mail gets returned
to sender.

Everyone,
Over the past few months I have been having serious issues with mail delivery
as have other residents in my apartment complex. I have lived at 4840 Pine St.
for about 5 years and it was never that good in the first place. I now have
companies like the people who manage my student loans and my life insurance
calling to tell me that the post office is sending the mail back to them as
undeliverable. I spoke with the rental office and they told me that no one has
brought them any mail in 3 days because the regular mail guy has been out for a
long time.

Does anyone have suggestions on who I can call or what can be done about this?
Do any neighbors in the area have similar problems.

 Thanks in advance,
 Ruthann Auten
