Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Ubuntu 7.04 - Softsqueeze not working
My SqueezeCenter runs on a GNU-Linux distro Ubuntu 7.04 . I'm starting the SoftSqueeze on my Vista PC (to test if it could play 5.1 FLAC). I had it connect correctly for 3 min. Now when I start it the display keeps flashing that it lost the connection. -- th00ht SqueezeBox v3 SqueezeCenter7 Quad 303 + Two Quad Electrostats 'last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/th00ht) th00ht's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15656 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Continued - SC 7.2.1 and Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit
Another day, another hurdle removed. Now I have it *all* working, includeing m4a file support (for those iTunes Plus downloads from the past). I always tell myself to transcode them to FLAC. Would make things easier, plus why have more than 2 file formats in one's collection, really... Anyhow, thanks a lot to everybody for the help and encouragement while getting this all to work. Only a week ago I was ready to go back full time to Windows out of convenience, now I am once again running with Linux (well, Ubuntu) most of the time. And got all the things I though I was missing out on compared to Windows to run on this 64 bit system - Adobe has a 64 bit version of flash in alpha that runs rock solid, KPowersave supports all the advanced powersaving features of my CPU and mobo (which is important with an always on service like SqueezeCenter running), and a few more. Now one thing that remains is the Amazon MP3 download service, but I can always boot from Windows when that mood strikes... Perhaps sometime soon I'll try to get something else to work - the sleep function to run reliably and to wake up from LAN when SC sends a request. It's never worked that well for me... OK, I seem to have got squeezecenter 7.2.1 working on Solaris snv_101 release. I've been thrashing about for ages on this, but running through the following seems to have kicked this into life; 1. Run through the Install Additional Perl Packages section in http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Opensolaris 2. Install Class::XSAccessor::Array using cpan cpan install Class::XSAccessor::Array 3. Comment out 2 modules in the build modules script; vi Bin/build-perl-modules.pl - comment out the following; 29 #'Class::XSAccessor::Array' = 'Class-XSAccessor-Array-0.05.tar.gz', 35 #'Encode::Detect' = 'Encode-Detect-1.00.tar.gz', 4. build_perl_modules.pl should work now; Bin/build-perl-modules.pl 5. Copy errmsg.sys from mysql installation to MySQL directory. 6. Copy over prefs and Plugins dir from previous slimserver install. 7. vi Slim/Utils/Unicode.pm and comment out; #use Encode::Detect::Detector; 8. The GD module was already installed using cpan, so move the squeezecenter files out of the way; cd CPAN mkdir movedoutoftheway mv GD* movedoutoftheway 9. slimserver.pl now works. Well it's not picking up my iTunes other than that all sorted. -- Blue_Atom Blue_Atom's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7699 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55852 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Problems with squeezeboxcenter on ubuntu 8.04
Squeezecenter starts when your system starts, and runs as a background service. There is no need -normally- for an icon or manual intervention. From another computer on your network your should be able to access SqueezeCenter from http://10.0.0.7:9000/ From the computer that runs SqueezeCenter you should normally be able to use either http://10.0.0.7:9000/ or http://127.0.0.1:9000 It might be easier to use names rather than computer addresses. This is useful in case the computers are given, from time to time, a different address by the router. Dynamic addressing is a function called DHCP. You have defined the computer name when installing Ubuntu (defaults to ubuntu I think), and normally your router has become aware of it. If it has, then you can use from any computer: http://computer_name:9000 (replace computer_name with, e.g. ubuntu). On the computer that runs SqueezeCenter you can use either: http://computer_name:9000 or http://localhost:9000 (respectively corresponding to 10.0.0.7 and 127.0.0.1). The computer is always aware of its own name, that's a good way to check you're using the right name. -- epoch1970 epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56053 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix

Will have a look at these. Thanks, guys. One question, Ben: I'd set up a folder, Artwork within my Music folder. Do you know if Album Artwork Downloader will let me assign that as the place to download all image files while ensuring that they link to the appropriate music files. It is fairly configurable, and will let you name any downloaded art any way you like based on the artist and album name. That includes directory structures based on the artist/album too -- according the dialog I was looking at. I find SqueezeCenter works very well with a cover.png saved in each album directory but if your structure doesn't allow that it can also be configured in many different ways. Pretty new to Ubuntu, so thanks for your patience! First off, make sure you both downloaded *and* installed the .deb from the web site. If not, download the .deb and install it using gdebi or dpkg. Google for installing .deb package on Ubuntu if you need help with installing a .deb package. Yes, by shell I mean Terminal. sudo and su are two different ways to gain special security permissions, in this case root. You don't need -- or want -- to be root to run albumart-qt. Just start Terminal and run albumart-qt by itself. If you've installed the .deb then it should already be in the path and it should start right up.
