I do not mind sticking with 3.0.35 for F19. Maybe for Fedora 20 we'll have to revisited assuming Wandboard Quad/Dual support will be stable in kernel 3.12 or 3.13. @Clive, any way to provide a kernel-devel package for F19 with 3.0.35? Well I have the OLED display working in Jivelite. You can see that the skin is way too big! :) 15036 So I've decided for now to make a new skin rather than try to use the old Boom interface. It was one benefit of moving to a mainline kernel, being able to use the current Fedora kernel spec file plus a few WB specific patches, rather than what I lashed together myself for 3.0.35. Anyway, I need to get kernel-devel package building from the 3.0.35 src rpm, and the hiface and mytek drivers working as standalone akmods packages rather than bundled with the kernel binary rpm. Re: Small CPU, Sox, squeezelite favour latency or throughput ?
Even though it doesn't fully fit in here, this is where I found the solution to my problem, so I thought it was a good idea to have others encouraged to try epoch1970's approach. I have a simple setup consisting of a QNAP TS 219P II running LMS 7.8 and a Squeezebox Touch (FW 7.8 as well) which is sometimes synched with a Squeezebox Radio in another room. Playing back in any higher resolution than 24/48 will enable SOX, in order to make the stream compatible with the SB Radio (hardware limit is 24/48). Using 96kHz material (I use FLAC only, throughout my entire library), the QNAP with its single core 2,0 GHz ARM CPU copes but struggles with default settings (i.e. full cpu load and sometimes drop outs). Now that I bought my first 192kHz albums there was no way I could play them back in synched mode, and even the Touch standing alone I would have to change to EDO (Enhanced Digital Output), avoiding SOX to activate. Now, simply using epoch1970's last posted settings and generating the custom-convert.conf right next to convert.conf in the LMS root folder I was able to take these snapshots from the resource monitor pages in the web interface of the QNAP, while playing back a 24/192 track with both players synched: 1503715038 Of course no hiccups whatsoever. Oh, by the way, I use both Squeezeboxes with WLAN. +---+ |Filename: TOP_192sync.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15038| +---+ Oppaunke's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59170 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97515 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
It always seems like I am advertising but this might help someone else I switched to a new development machine. Doesn't have a serial port for the WB serial console. So I started looking at USB->RS232 adapters. A friend cautioned me away from the really cheap adapters as he has had issues and pointed me at a £15 part. I ignored him and spent £2.30 (delivered) on this 'USB to RS232 - USB Converter Cable' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00077DJIQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00). (Figured, for the sake of £2.30, if it didn't work I'd buy the more expensive one that was recommended.) Anyway, can't vouch for it on Window$, only use Linux, but it appears to use a genuine Prolific chip, the pl2303 module loads, and the WB serial console works just fine on it. £2.30 well spent! ;) JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
Been a very busy week for me, so only just getting back to the conversation about the F19 release.. Guys, take your points on board. Here's the thing, I think we are going to have to stick with the 3.0.35 kernel as being our "default" F19 kernel for the moment. I'm not even prepared to release the 3.11 kernel as a beta at the moment. Not to paint it in too bad of a light, but for me, beta means reasonably stable and to be frank, 3.11. Too many unexplained lock-ups. Another issue I'm aware of where USB audio device stops working and the whole USB sub-system stops working until the device is rebooted. Wi-fi is there now, but there is the cold boot issue. (I haven't updated in a couple of days, so that might be resolved now, there was talk about being able to reset it via a GPIO from the device tree file. If that's the case, great.) Lack of SPDIF driver. No video (HDMI) support for the moment.. The biggest issue for me is the lock-up, stability issue. I've never had an issue with the 3.0.35 kernel. My gut feeling is that you could run it for years without rebooting and not have an issue. Now, I suspect that when 3.11 spends a little time out of RC status and gets used by the "general public", issues will be resolved fairly quickly. But for the moment, the F19 release needs to stick with the 3.0.35 kernel and I think realistically, we may be looking at a F20 release before being able to have a mainline kernel as the "default". So back to the question, and assuming the F19 release stays as-is with 3.0.35 as the default kernel, where do we go with it? Can you guys running it give me any reason not to make it the "current" release and suggest anyone currently running CSOS upgrade to it? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I had some noise from my DAC, but it is much better after I changed the output level from 100 to 100% in the ALSA command in bootlocal.sh. Thanks Should work fine with just the flac dll (all the ogg decoding is done within libspotify). What errors do you see in the log? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
Clive, I reworked the German localization of the web page quite some time ago and left a pull request on Github, https://github.com/CommunitySqueeze/Web-GUI/pull/1. Did you notice it? I admit I was under the impression from some of your earlier posts that things were moving faster with adding Wandboard peripherals support to the Linux mainline kernel. It is Freescale that is missing the opportunity by not pushing this harder, IMO. But given the facts, you're right, the 3.0.35 kernel is serving us well. Talking of which, I'd like to be able to rebuild this kernel from source, and would need know which source tree you are starting from (RobertCNelson?) and to have access to all the patches that you use. E.g., are you keeping the following Git repository up-to-date? https://github.com/CommunitySqueeze/CSOS -- "Dreamer, easy in the chair that really fits you..." dsdreamer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12588 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)
Thanks Ralphy, sadly I am still not getting any playback in Windows 7 after copying those three DLLs. Triode, I'm not sure exactly. I can get Spotify working with the Linux binary just fine, but in Windows 7 I don't hear anything. I thought perhaps it was because I had to get the Vorbis/OGG dlls. Please advise!? I think we should aim for a single version which has maximum support for what we are doing - so F19 with 3.0.35 kernel seems the best compromise for me at present - working ok here...
