Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.10

2022-01-22 Thread paul-

It is not useful to post about 8.1 in a 3.1 thread. That’s why search
engines yield useless results. Monkey audio support has been included
in LMS for a long time. If it’s not working start a new thread.

2022-01-22 Thread gstalnaker

ralphy - searching for LMS/pCP support of MondeyAudio ape files and this
pops up in a Google search. I note it's 2017 vintage. I've checked the
repository options for pCP 8.1 which I have installed and I don't see
*mac* or *ape* listed anywhere. Searching this forum produces far too
many false positives ('ape format' are mostly about disk formatting,
e.g.). So I'm hoping you won't mind me resurrecting this ancient post
for my question: can I, should I, do this for Monkey Audio ape file
support in pCP v8.1?

There have been a few folk with problems with HiFiBerry stuff, I hope
yours is sorted successfully.

Drop a reply if and when you get sorted.

Ronnie,
thanks for thorough troubleshooting. I did not want the hustle of
returning a working board and have to learn this from the the dealer
later on. Now I am confident it is not a user error.

I live in Germany, a replacement will not be a problem. A 2 years
warranty is the legal framework in case of a faulty product sold.

Thank you one more time, appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] HifiBerry Digi2 Pro

2022-01-22 Thread Man in a van

Thanks, and I'm sorry for the run around :)

It would appear that the board is faulty :(

piCorePlayer loads the correct overlay and does not recognise the board

hifiberry OS does not recognise the board

raspberry pi OS loads the correct overlay and does not recognise the
board

https://www.hifiberry.com/docs/data-sheets/datasheet-digi2-pro/

https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/blob/master/boot/overlays/README

I can not think of anymore tests

Time to contact the vendor for a replacement.

I hope you have good luck (where are you ?)

If this is correct for Digi+ Pro, it should be the right one for Digi2.

OK

There has been some cross posting :)

Please change the overlay to

Code:

dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi-pro

Save, exit and reboot

then see if the board is connected

Sorry about this this, my bad :(

exactly. No value in having LMS running on your rPi unless you need an
instance of LMS for your local network to feed players. Squeezelite
doesn't work any better having LMS on the same rPi.

I do not see an error here, only that the pi has responded to config.txt
entry and loaded hifiberry-digi.dtbo for audio output.

I added a dtoverlay line as per your instructions in the config.txt and
have confirmed it was saved there:

36993

Based on this, I recieve the aforementioned output for squeezelite -1
command.

Squeezelite is fine alongside LMS.
Possibly on a 512MB Pi you would separate them but try it for yourself
and be pleasantly surprised.

I'm currently reconfiguring my LMS/Pi setup and am wondering whether or
not to let LMS run on pCP alongside a Squeezelite instance or not. In
terms of SQ performance, does Squeezelite prefer to have a Pi to itself?
I'm happy to devote a Pi to this, but could find other uses for it if
it doesn't matter. If anyone has any experience of this I'd be
grateful to hear your wisdom.

It is normal to have a different MAC for WiFi and Ethernet.
If you really want to block/accept access via MAC address then add both
on your router - or only add the one the WiFi one (but be prepared to be
confused one day when you put the Ethernet cable back in and it does not
work)

I know this is nitpicky, but I noticed that the kernel seems to be
trying to balance/reschedule interrupts when there are none. This makes
the arch_timer create hundreds of thousands-millions of interrupts per
cpu core for no reason.

Any way to compile the kernel to be tickless? Being a pretty much single
purpose OS PiCore is not likely to have many processes to reschedule in
the first place.

CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL will enable the "full" tickless mode.

And/Or, make it an option in the "bootcodes" menu

Thanks a lot Paul !! Works perfectly. I upgraded to 8.1.0, then
installed the extension using the web interface (that actually already
modified the onboot.lst file, I just reordered it so the firmware is
loaded with the others). Restarted and inserted the new wifi dongle and
it worked.

I think you have configured your router wrongly, you only allow the
Ethernet address 192.168.1.6 whereas the wlan seems to have this IP
address 192.168.1.3. Also please notice that the MAC is different
between the Ethernet adaptor and the wlan adaptor. Have a look at the

but all full.

I am burning the image to the SD atm. Any manuals on how to install the
overlay and squeezelite or is this a matter of clicks in the interface
of the raspberry pi OS?

I am working from a Windows 10 machine, Pi4 connected via ethernet to

I don't understand your experience with the HiFiBerry OS, I have used it
several times without a problem

However, I suggest you try a copy of

'

Install the overlay and squeezelite and see if the board is recognised

If you need any help, just ask :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] HifiBerry Digi2 Pro

2022-01-22 Thread sheeple

I encountered a similar problem today.

Digi2 on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5, powered by standard Pi4 power
supply, no other connections other than SD card and Digi2.

First I was using piCorePlayer 8.1.0, 64 Bit Kernel:

I set the audio output to Hifiberry Digi+ Pro as commonly advised and
squeezelite immediately stopped working after reboot. Then I began to
search for explanations:

This is pcp_boot.log:

  - http: //pcp. local (mdnsd)

  Press [Enter] to access console.

In the background, ntpd is syncing time between piCorePlayer and the internet.
A large offset between 1970 and now is normal.

After this, I installed HifiberryOS and after connecting to the device
via Ethernet, I was presented with a "Beocreate" surface where I could
choose which speaker to amplify. I think this is not correct.

Then I tried piCorePlayer ver. 6.1, 7, 8, 8.1 all in 32 Bit Kernel,
after using 64 Bit Kernel yesterday with ver 8.1.

I could not connect to piCorePlayer versions 6.1 and 7 over Ethernet and
had no patience to troubleshoot the reason why.
The versions 8 and 8.1 do all show squeezelite not running. With 8.1 I
tried to add force_eeprom_read=0 to the config.txt, but this did not
change a thing.

In the submenu "HAT information" is an entry which baffles me: although
piCorePlayer cannot start the Digi2 as indicated in pcp_boot.log, there
is information about a Digi2 Pro. Not even Digi+ Pro, which is the
overlay used in piCorePlayer settings, but Digi2. how comes this?

Code:

  [ INFO ] dmesg
  Overlays in /mnt/mmcblk0p1/config.txt
  [ INFO ] Overlays
  dtoverlay=disable-bt dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi-pro

I am about to send this board back, but would still like to get it going
if it was possible. Any ideas how to continue?

Trouble is I'd have to keep checking the release page for updates which
quite frankly I'm going to forget to do and seems rather antiquated.
It'd be ideal if it was integrated with the player like LMS
notifications, or via the admin UI e.g. pfsense or Kodi or many of my
other appliances. Otherwise I wondered if the UI could fetch the current
release and just have it as a banner at the top?

Hi all,

It took me some time to figure out why my pCP would not synchronize the
time, so as additional info for others: It might have been mentioned,
but it was not clear to me. On my Asus router I run a local ntp server,
ánd had intercept NTP client requests set true. The latter needs to be
switched off. Without it my pCP's synchronize time nicely.
