My low-tech solution to delete the extra SD Card backup files was to shut down the Pi, remove the USB hard drive, and connect it to my Windows 10 machine. No problem deleting the files. My guess, which is probably not quite right, is the "Create File Mode" code 0775 that is mentioned in the PiCore Documentation to set up a USB drive and set-up Samba. I have seen other people use different codes. I am not sure what the differences are. thanks for the help. It has the same permission settings as my "Music" folder; which I can copy and delete files from my Windows 10 machines. Perhaps the file settings if the image files might yield useful information. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
My ipad doesn't show a loss of connection. Safari must caching the url and is not abiding by the javascript, that changes the url, removing the backup command from the url. So safari is reposting the full command to start the backup. I dont think there is anything I can do about it. You don't need to wait for the backup to finish if you don't want to, just leave the page. piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
I was able to recreate the issue of multiple SD card image files being created with only *one *click of the Create SD Card image. I removed pigz.tcz and then accessed pCP via my iPad. 1. I clicked "create" button and I see "Writing -2028mb image" and I see a series of dots that appear which I assume shows progress is occurring. 2. I wait and the iPad screen turns off due to inactivity after a minute. 3. After a while, I press the home button to wake up the iPad. 4. The Safari page instead of showing pCP and the status display, I see the message "Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost." I am not sure why it would say that as I have good Wifi signal as the access point is in the same room. I never get this message when the main pCP page, LMS pages are displayed and the iPad comes back from standby. 5. I tap refresh; the symbol with the circle with a clockwise arrow in Safari. 6. The pCP page reappears showing the status with "Writing -2028mb image" However, I notice the dots have started over. In other words, I do not that additional progress has occurred since the screen went into standby. 7. This time I touch the screen every ~30 seconds so it will not go into standby. I see the dots appear across the screen. The process takes 15 minutes. When it is complete I see pCP displaying information of 2 partitions, the size of each partition, LBA start, LBA end. The disk size says 30528 mb. 8. Using my Windows 10 computer I go to the directory where the images are stored and I see 2 new files with the same size. Yet I clicked on the "create" button only once. The time stamp on each file is 3 minutes apart. The only thing I makes sense to me, is that when I taped on the refresh symbol it resulted in another backup process. Perhaps in parallel? I hope this helps if the creators are concerned about this. The process does appear to work, it is just not what I expected. (However, I have not validated the images by putting them on a second card and then using it to boot-up the 3B+.) The other observation is pigz.tcz really speeds up the process; took less than 5 minutes. If you need more information, please let me know. Thanks to all the people that develop, maintain, and help people with pCP!! Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
My ipad does not go blank, is shows the screen data as it's being written (An I have done backups that take 30 minutes). The web page never finishes loading before the script finishes, so the page load would have had to been manually stopped. The backup script will still run in the background until finished. Normal page loading very early on removes the data from the URL so that refreshes do not repost the URL. There are no pages in the pCP interface that you have to manually refresh to see status. piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
I did the minor update from PCP 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 to use the backup SD Card feature. (Thanks to GaryM on another thread.) The first time I saved the file it took (what I thought, more about that later) a half hour to write the file. I saw the note about pigz.tcz, so I installed that extension, and wanted to see if it was any faster. It took less than 5 minutes to write the file with pigz.tcz. I looked at the files that were created, and I noticed I had seven *.gz files. Six were all the same file size. One was slightly larger; indicating it was after I installed pigz.tcz. How did I end up with seven files? I only clicked the save button twice. I did notice that during the first attempt (before installing pigz.tcz) the pCP page on my iPad would go blank, so I did a refresh and the status would re-appear and the little dots would appear again showing the status. This happened several times, which explains the six duplicate files. The screen refresh started another save SD Card process. Tx for adding the LMS warning. It'd also be useful to say what navigating away from the page will do. I only saw a progress % counter on FF with no bar. I had to do a shit Reload (override cache) to get the bar to display. The image size makes a lot more sense now, though an old storage pedant says all that has to happen now is to change mb to be MB or GB and then we're !Done". Math errors have been fixed. Numbers were too big for shell math. It was only cosmetic errors, images were still created properly. Note the size printed on the image name is the size needed for restore. The gzipped image will be less than that size. Also fixed was when the boot disk is a USB stick. I added a progress bar. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] New sd-card image backup feature in pCP 7.0.1
I've discovered that if I mount a writable share under LMS Network Mount then that mount will appear in the image location drop-down, so that looks promising. It's managed to write a 0 byte file so far but Resource Monitor doesn't indicate any file writing activity. Will do some more digging. The cmd then says "Things can be sped up if you install extension pigz.tcz from the extension page." but of course by then it's a bit late to discover that! Any chance this could be flagged on the initial page if it can't be included by default for some reason?
