Re: open stack problem

2005-06-16 Thread Robert Brenstein

I tried this Klaus but no luck

the only one I now get to work is

answer file "Select a database file:" \
 with filter "*.abd"
--with filter "Armbase Database File" & return & "*.abd"
--with filter "Armbase Database File" & "*.abd"
if it is empty then exit to top
  put it into tFileName
  toplevel stack it
end doFileOpen

I get a dialogue box but when I click on "open" I dont get a stack. It may
be a stack corrupt problem since I can open one with a different name from
the default, however, even if I delete the previous default mydatabase.abd
and resave a new one I still can't open it?? Weird

The problem might be with your using extension "abd" instead of "rev"
for a stack.

It is safer to check after answer file with

if the result is "cancel" or it is empty then exit ...

Message execution error:

Hi Damien,

I have tested the revXMLTrees() function in Rev 2.6 and as you say,
it works fine, so I'm not quite clear on what your problem is.

Are you saying that it doesn't work in earlier versions of Rev, or is
the problem in a standalone? I built a standalone and again, this
function works perfectly, but perhaps the XML library was not
included in your standalone.

Could you please explain more fully exactly what causes this error?

A good idea I picked up from somewhere is to build in a time limit on repeats
whenever possible:

--before entering repeat loop
put the ticks + 600 into endtime --(10 second timelimit)
repeat with i = 1 to somenumber
if the ticks > endtime then
answer "overtime" --might want to report other information to help debug
exit repeat
end if

do repeat stuff here
end repeat

it's only a couple of lines of code, but it's saved me many a crash.

Debian Linux and Rev CGI

2005-06-16 Thread Dan Shafer
My hosting service (http://www.dreamhost.com) tech support folks
responded to my request for GLIBC 2,.3 support as apparently required
by the Linux Rev CGi engine, with the following comment:

almost 90% of hosts that
run Debian systems run the stable version which was Woody up until the
beginning of this month. Debian woody is based on glibc2.2 . We are
upgrading to the latest Debian which is sarge (3.1) which will upgrade
glibc as well to a more recent version at the end of this summer.

So I'll just be patient until the end of the summer. Meanwhile, I'm
honing my Python/PHP skill set, hardly a painful experience.

I assume this is a Debian issue and that Red Hat Linux uses GLIBC
2.3, which explains the anomaly.

Hi Bob,

According to a later email, you are finding the apps folder and
putting it into a global variable called gMyAppsFolder. In the script
above, you are calling a function: myAppsFolder to get the same data.

Try this:

on mouseup
 global gMyAppsFolder
 set the hideConsoleWindows to true
 put gMyAppsFolder & "\Components\PDATconv.exe /I" && quote & \
   gMyAppsFolder & "\Components\Armbase.xdf" & quote into mycommandline
 get shell(mycommandline)
end mouseup

Re: stumped: set script of buttons at runtime

2005-06-16 Thread Sarah Reichelt
I've been battling this problem for a few days and have no idea
where to look next. Originally I thought it had to do with global
variable issues between stacks. However, after MUCH hair-pulling
it appears the problem has to do with setting the script property
of buttons dynamically ...or so I think...Keep in mind the
following code works perfectly in development. That is, the last
line of the mouseUp handler in the hidden defaultButton says
"answer the script of me". In development, after all the buttons
have been created, clicking any of the buttons generates a dialog
box and the appropriate script. In standalone mode, the script of
all the dynamically created buttons is empty...even the "answer"
command on the last line on makeButtons returns empty

If your template script is more than 10 lines, it will work in the
IDE, but not in a standalone as you are limited in creating new
scripts there. However if you have multiple buttons all with the same
script, then it would be easier to place the script higher in the
message path and have them all use the same script.

There are 2 ways you could do this:

set the script of each button to:
  on mouseUp
doMyButtonhandler
  end mouseUp
and have all the scripts in the "doMyButtonHandler" handler in the
card or stack script.

Alternatively, just have a mouseUp script in the card or stack script
containing all your button script and check "the target" each time it
is called to see whether it is one of the buttons that should use the
handler.

I should mention that I declare a global myAppsFolder and create the path
with
ON OPENSTACK
get the filename of stack "Armbase Launcher"
  put it into gMyAppsFolder
  set the itemDel to "/"
delete the last item of gMyAppsFolder
replace "/" with "\" in gMyAppsFolder
  Put gMyAppsFolder into field "pathtest"
end OPENSTACK

The line Put gMyAppsFolder into field "pathtest" is only to check in a text
box that the path is working.

relative path help

2005-06-16 Thread Bob Hartley
Hi All

I have managed (with the help of a script of Sarah's to create dynamic paths
and in turn creatre an absoute path to my apps folder. I also changed the /
to a \ for using the shell.

eg
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq\My

Now I want to have this as part of a script that runs an app from the
command line.

The old script was "hardwired" to one folder (C:\Armbase etc) and works.
the old script is
on mouseup
 set the hideConsoleWindows to true
--space put in to assist reading
  put "c:\Armbase\Components\PDATconv.exe /I" && quote & "c
---note no carridge return here, just wordwrapping
\Armbase\Components\Armbase.xdf" & quote into mycommandline

  get shell(mycommandline)

  put url("file:c:\Armbase\Components\Armbase.txt") into tFile

end mouseup

sarah suggested put myAppsFolder() & "\Components\PDATconv.exe" into tPath

so I used

on mouseup
 set the hideConsoleWindows to true
  put myApps\Folder() & "\Components\PDATconv.exe /I" && quote &
--just wordwrapping here
myAppsFolder() & "\Components\Armbase.xdf" & quote into mycommandline
  get shell(mycommandline)

endmouseup

when I substitute this in it does not work.

Any ideas?

Eric,

The thing I hadn't figured out that lead me down the present path was
that I couldn't figure out how to add the script to the template button.

If you are building the script at runtime, my approach won't work. If
you're selecting from a finite number of pre-written scripts, store each
script in a separate invisible template button.

stumped: set script of buttons at runtime - solution A

2005-06-16 Thread Emilio Gagliardi

Thanks for responding fellas,
From your unanimous replies it seems that the 60 lines of script I
was trying to set at runtime went over my limitpardon me for
saying, but...>:(

anyway, what Rob mentions below sounds like what I might need to do.
The thing I hadn't figured out that lead me down the present path was
that I couldn't figure out how to add the script to the template button.

Hi Eric,

>So for some
>reason, setting the script of a button at runtime does not seem
>possible. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here??

Runtime changes to scripts by standalones are subject to the 10-line
restriction the applies to the do command.

If you are not building the new script based on runtime info, you could
have a hidden template button containing the new script, change the
other
properties of the template button, and replace the old button with a
copy

of the template.

Actually I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you
meant something like this:

set the script of the templateButton to "ADD SCRIPT CODE HERE"

but you mean duplicate the button that is already on the card, and
then change its properties?

so my makebutton becomes

copy button "defaultButton"
set the name of it to "newButton"
set the location of it nnn,nnn
...
where button "defaultButton" contains all 60 lines of script that i
want each button to use. The only thing that needs to change is the
name of each button. I like that method better than my current
method. Hopefully that is what you intended. :)

Thank you guys for your feedback.

Hi Emilio,

Hi All,
I've been battling this problem for a few days and have no idea
where to look next. Originally I thought it had to do with global
variable issues between stacks. However, after MUCH hair-pulling
it appears the problem has to do with setting the script property
of buttons dynamically ...or so I think...Keep in mind the
following code works ...

...
and hence none of them work. If I set the visibility of the
original hidden button to true, it works fine. So for some reason,
setting the script of a button at runtime does not seem possible.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here??

you are doing nothing wrong actually!
You just have been hit by the "Scriptlimits", sorry :-/

See the "Note" in the docs for "script".

Re: stumped: set script of buttons at runtime

2005-06-16 Thread Eric Chatonet

Hi Emilio,

As you say:

However, if I open the stack using the "go" command from within
another stack, the above makeButton command does not set the script
property of the buttons and hence none of them work.

I guess it's a "defaultStack" issue: your script does not find the
button "defaultButton" of card "defaultBlock" because this button is
located in another stack.
Try something like button "defaultButton" of card "defaultBlock" of
stack "defaultStack"

Hope this helps.

Best Regards from Paris,

Eric Chatonet.

Hi All,
I've been battling this problem for a few days and have no idea
where to look next.
In standalone mode, the script of
all the dynamically created buttons is empty...even the "answer"
command on the last line on makeButtons returns empty

on makeButton buttonText

set the style of the templateButton to "Button"
set the label of the templateButton to buttonText
set the visible of the templateButton to false
set the width of the templateButton to BUTTON_WIDTH
set the height of the templateButton to BUTTON_HEIGHT
set the opaque of the templateButton to false
set the textAlign of the templateButton to "center"
set the threed of the templateButton to false
set the showborder of the templateButton to false
set the autohilight of the templateButton to false
set the textFont of the templateButton to "verdana"
set the textSize of the templateButton to "16"
set the location of the templateButton to DEFULT_LOCATION

  lock messages
  create button buttonText
  unlock messages

set the script of button buttonText to the script of button
"defaultButton" of card "defaultBlock"

set the location of it to getNextButtonLocation()
set the myHome of it to the location of it

set the visible of button buttonText to true
answer the script of button buttonText

end makeButton

All the buttons are exactly the same except for their label. They
all have the same functionality so i store the script for the
buttons in a button whose visibility is set to false. In
development mode everything works perfectly. All the buttons
appear, they all contain the script from the hidden button, and
they all use their respective scripts as intended. However, if I
open the stack using the "go" command from within another stack,
the above makeButton command does not set the script property of
the buttons and hence none of them work. If I set the visibility
of the original hidden button to true, it works fine. So for some
reason, setting the script of a button at runtime does not seem
possible. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here??

Property Inspector Bug?

2005-06-16 Thread Mark Smith
I'm storing a number of arrays in custom property sets. When I get the
data by script, all is fine eg:

put the cpKey["date"] of me

So, the data is there, however, when I look at that set in the property
inspector, though the keys are all there, the data is apparently not,
that is, clicking on a key in the upper field, the lower field remains
empty.

Rev 2.6, build 91, OS 10.3.9

is this an issue in build 91, corrected in the latest build, or should
I bugzilla this?

Cheers,

Mark

ps. using the "check for updates" from the help menu tells me I have

What happened to maskData?

2005-06-16 Thread Derek Bump
Am I missing something, or did maskData change in any way? I remember
about 4 months ago I played with the maskData property. My goal was to
have 2 images. The first image as any type of photo (like a picture of
the family) and the second image was a Black and White JPEG that was to
be the edge.

You would make the imageData of the 2nd image become the maskData for
the first image, thus giving it a beautifully edged frame.

Now I can't get it to work, and to top it off, I can't find my test
stack from 4 months ago to get it to work. Anyone have any ideas?

Report Printing for Other Newbies

2005-06-16 Thread Ron Noice
In my entire Revolution career (a whole two months) the most exasperating
problem in a long list has been the inability to print multi-page, tabular
reports. I've tried the available demos, I've read the messages, I've tried to
decipher the docs, I've determined that pounding the desk does not help.
Nothing I've yet seen gave me what I needed though I may have missed something.
Quartam Reports looks like it may be the answer but I needed a solution for a
client right now.

S, I eventually came up with a method that worked for me in Windows XP
(your mileage may differ). And, though I may live to regret it, I've created a
small demo stack and published it in RevOnline for your amusement: User = ronn,
Category = General, Title = ReportTest. The demo attempts to explain the
process I'm using and lets you try it out by experimenting with different size
reports and different line spacing to ensure the page breaks work properly.

Hopefully, other newbies may be able to modify it for their own use and
experienced users can just have a good laugh! My ulterior motive is that I'm
hoping someone with an actual brain can suggest ways to improve it. Anyway,
it's out there now and I don't see a way to delete it so if you're desperate
for something to fill the time, give it a shot.

Yes, it seems that the sheet windows just appear so fast that you

I'd think it is a cosmetic bug. You should place a report about it.

Re: Printing is hell

hello Sarah,

PDFCreator is effectively a virtual printer i.e. your Rev app is
printing to it as if it was a real printer. If that works OK, then
I would guess it is a printer problem

Well, printing to the virtual Printer gives me satisfaction : the
produced pdf-file, when printed out on the same printer, has no
problems ???

That's why I'm confused, and I think that there is a problem with the
REv-app...

I did not try it on other machines, so I can't really tell if it's
specific to the machine I use in my classroom (XP)...

At home, on my Mac, everything's ok Perhaps, it's a Win related
problem ?

Any ideas ?

It has not been printed ?

Why ?

Is this related to the printer ? (printermargins do matter here...)

When I print the stack via a "PDFCreator", a PDF-document is

PDFCreator is effectively a virtual printer i.e. your Rev app is
printing to it as if it was a real printer. If that works OK, then
I would guess it is a printer problem. Try making sure that your
printer drivers are up-to-date and check what the effective print
size of your printer is.

One point that I found confusing is that when you get the
printPaperSize, this INCLUDES the printMargins. If I go to page
setup & choose A4 portrait on my printer, I get a printPaperSize of
595,842. The printMargins are 72,72,72,72 so the width of printing
I can use is not 595 but 595 - 72 - 72 or 451 pixels.

For testing purposes, I make a stack that I think is the correct
size and draw a rectangle around the edges of the stack. Then I
print preview this, adjusting the size until it all fits on the
page. Don't include the printMargins in your stack size - make it
the size of the available print area.

HTH,
Sarah

shell script for logout on OSX?

2005-06-16 Thread Terry Judd
I have a situation where I want to logout the current user after an
idle period. At the moment I'm invoking the Finder/System Events logout
routine via Applescript but this throws up a standard answer style
dialog that gives the user two minutes to cancel the logout before it
proceeds. For various reasons (including the need to occasionally kill
processes that fail to quit during an automated logout) I'd prefer to
'bypass' this two minute warning if at all possible and initiate the
logout immediately I have completed my 'cleanup' procedures (I already
have a custom dialog that gives the user plenty of warning prior to
issuing the logout call). Anyone have any ideas on if this is possible
and how it might be done?

About the answer dialog

2005-06-16 Thread =?ISO-8859-1?Q?=C9ric_Miclo?=

Hello,

Since version 2.6 of Revolution it seems that there are some problems
with the answer dialog.

The one concerning the it variable has been resolved.
But I encounter another problem with the prompt that is not always
wrapped when it should and can't be read because a portion of it is
out of the dialog.
Mark has provided a patch but it seems that there is still a bug: for
each dialog invoqued the prompt display changes the 3 first times the
answer dialog is invoqued and the first time the prompt is not always
correctly wrapped.

I'd like to know if it is a problem that occurs only on my 2 Mac or
if someone else is experiencing the same bug.

In version 2.5, there was no such problem.

Best regards,

ÉrIC
