Adv network traffic assignment help

2013-11-01 Thread Jake G.
Hi All,

I have KVM host on Centos 6.4 running CS 4.2 with 3 network bridges.
cloudbr0 - Management, Storage
cloudbr1 - Public
cloudbr2 - Guest

In the Advanced networking wizard how do I assign each traffic type to its
corresponding bridge ?

Do I have to name the labels with the bridge name?

Thanks,
Jacob

Just so you know, zone wide primary storage is not currently supported by
XenServer, that's why you had to add a dedicated primary storage for your
XenServer Cluster.

The templates we make available to our clients are 20GB. This seems to be enough

Ubuntu and CentOS it seems less that 10GB can become tricky on the long term.

We use LVM for the partitioning so you could extend you root device over the
datadisk. But it's not something that we do quite often, normally we just add a
data drive (which can be resized) and mount it as homedir (cause this has the
most data in most cases) for example.

Hope this answers your question!

I agree with Lennert, 20GB for Linux is a good size for the Template.

For windows, I would recommend using something in the region of 80GB as it can
get bloated with updates etc.

RE: Secondary storage where to mounted

2013-11-01 Thread Geoff Higginbottom
Secondary Storage is mounted manually on the Management Server only when you
deploy the System VM Template, either during initial deployment, or suring
upgrades.

The Host will auto mount secondary storage when it needs to copy a template to
Primary Storage, it will then auto un-mount secondary storage. You will not
see this in XenCenter, but can monitor it from the file system.

It is supposed to be on the management server only because the scripts that add
a host are supposed to copy them to the xen hosts. It does not run on the ms.
There appears to be a bug that the script is not pushing it to the hosts. Hence
the suggestion below to copy it to xensource/bin. Leave the other one in sbin
there. That is part of the XenServer distribution but is missing some of the
options that cloudstack uses.

Vahric,

Have you configured the optional 'Storage' network within your Zone. If you
have, have you mapped a 'storage' IP to each of the Hosts and Management

A query like this should find your trouble volume:

On the fly CS update from 4.1.1 to 4.2

2013-11-01 Thread Gabriel Bräscher

Hi all,

On the university laboratory that I work we have a cloud environment
using Cloudstack as the management tool. So far, we have 2 Cloudstack
servers and a load balancing apache server, both CS are on 4.1.1 version.

Now we are starting to plan the update to the 4.2 version, mostly
because of some important fixes that have been updated. The upgrade has
to be done with the cloud running, so, we are going to update each CS
server at time, in some point on the update process we are going to end
up with one CS on 4.2 version and other on 4.1.1, could it create some
problems?

I noticed that the systems VMs templates were updated, so what does the
CS 4.2 would do when it gets up and running and finds a system VM that
was created by the CS 4.1.1? Are the CS updates meant to be done with
the whole management structure down or they have support to get this job
done with everything up and running?

Thanks.

Gabriel.

Gabriel,

You need to follow the update instructions carefully.

Yes, it means stopping all your management servers, but all guest VMs continue
to run.

The upgrade should be relatively quick, but it does involve updating the system
VM template and restarting system VMs so they get updated.

Remember to backup before upgrading, and ideally test the upgrade process on a
test rig if you have never upgraded before.

It still seems to me you have a communication problem albeit not at

configuration. I presume you did check the ip addresses for the hosts.
check the value 'host' in the global vars and try to telnet it on port
22 80 8080 8787 or what else from the xen hosts . I am sure the
problem is hidden somewhere in the mysql database.

Re: On the fly CS update from 4.1.1 to 4.2

2013-11-01 Thread Rafael Weingartner
After the upgrade, does the CS run something special like scripts on the
database?

2013/11/1 Geoff Higginbottom geoff.higginbot...@shapeblue.com

 Gabriel,

You need to follow the update instructions carefully.

Yes, it means stopping all your management servers, but all guest VMs
 continue to run.

The upgrade should be relatively quick, but it does involve updating the
system VM template and restarting system VMs so they get updated.

Remember to backup before upgrading, and ideally test the upgrade process
on a test rig if you have never upgraded before.

 Hi all,

Now we are starting to plan the update to the 4.2 version, mostly because
of some important fixes that have been updated. The upgrade has to be done
with the cloud running, so, we are going to update each CS server at time,
in some point on the update process we are going to end up with one CS on
4.2 version and other on 4.1.1, could it create some problems?

I noticed that the systems VMs templates were updated, so what does the CS
4.2 would do when it gets up and running and finds a system VM that was
created by the CS 4.1.1? Are the CS updates meant to be done with the whole
management structure down or they have support to get this job done with
 everything up and running?

 Thanks.

 Gabriel.

After the upgrade the packages (rpm/deb), you need start the management
service which will execute the SQL upgrade of database automatically.
