I have not heard any complaints, although from the access logs I see lots
of attempts to download legacy templates.
download.cloud.com will remain offline until April 30.
On April 30 2018, download.cloud.com will be decommissioned permanently.

[NOTICE] Impending shutdown of download.cloud.com - this may affect your CloudStack installation

2018-03-20 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
On April 30, 2018, the domain download.cloud.com will be decommissioned.

THIS MAY AFFECT YOUR CLOUDSTACK INSTALLATION. PLEASE READ FURTHER.

BACKGROUND
download.cloud.com was used to host the seed templates (images) for a
CloudStack installation. This included the system vm templates for releases
prior to 4.10. Around March 2017[1], a new site was established (
download.cloudstack.org) and all the content (templates) was copied over to
the new site. From release 4.10 onwards[2][3], the seed templates are
fetched / downloaded from the new site during an installation of Apache
CloudStack.

To check if your CloudStack installation has a reference to the old site (
download.cloud.com), check your vm_template table:

SELECT url FROM vm_template;

WHO MAY BE AFFECTED
CloudStack operators installing a version of Apache CloudStack prior to
version 4.10 after the shutdown. An already running/functioning CloudStack
cloud will continue to operate with no disruption after the shutdown.
However, operations such as: adding a zone, backup and restore, secondary
storage backup/restore, etc may be affected.

STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO AVOID IMPACT
Update the vm_template table to point to the new location:

UPDATE vm_template SET url = REPLACE(url, 'download.cloud.com', '
download.cloudstack.org');

TRIAL RUN OF THE SHUTDOWN
During the last week of March 2018, download.cloud.com will be taken
temporarily offline. This is to make sure that CloudStack operators who
have not paid attention to this notice but are affected, will pay attention.

This notice will be posted periodically until the shutdown.

Re: VPC across multiple hypevisors

2017-10-19 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
There is a possibility that you might lose the VR under some circumstances.
E.g., the VR is created on XS and it needs to be recreated ( XS server
dies) but there is no XS capacity left. This might have been fixed, but
best to test these corner cases out.

If you are using basic zone then you have to add rules to your security
groups to allow traffic between VMs. Everything is denied by default.

So awesome to have such a range of options. I just have a toy workload (
experiments)- I was going to roll my own ACS but I may need public IP.

BTW it is pretty hard to find this range of options with just Google search.

But maybe my Google-Fu << Cloud-Fu

Re: Sequence table recovery possible?

2016-09-09 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
This table is used to generate unique ids for the respective tables
(vm_instance_seq for vm_instance for example). Just use the largest id from
the vm_instance table and add a largish number (1).

Security groups block multicast / broadcast traffic (except for ARP).
Security groups are by default deny all, except for added rules. You can't
add a multicast rule.

It seems that some firewall on cloudstack should be open. Maybe we need to open

The realhostip.com DNS resolver will be turned off imminently. This is the

If you are using the latest cloudstack build from master or 4.4 branch, you can
upload custom certificates via the UI, instead of invoking the
UploadCustomCertificate API directly.

We changed the SSL Certificate dialog to allow uploading chained SSL
certificates, see
CLOUDSTACK-6695https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-6695.

Announcing Apache CloudStack CloudMonkey 5.1.0

2014-05-16 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
May 16, 2014 - The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), the all-volunteer
developers, stewards, and incubators of more than 170 Open Source projects and
initiatives, today announced Apache CloudStack CloudMonkey v5.1.0, the latest
feature release of the CloudStack CloudMonkey command line interface (CLI).

Apache CloudStack CloudMonkey is a command line interface (CLI) tool for
CloudStack written in Python. CloudMonkey can be use both as an interactive
shell and as a command line tool which simplifies CloudStack configuration and
management.

CloudMonkey V5.1.0 is the next feature release of the 5.x line which first
released on September 24, 2013. Some of the noteworthy new and improved features
include:

- Support for version 3 of the CloudStack API signing procedure. This adds
  security by preventing replay attacks.
- Support for using session-based logins to CloudStack. This simplifies initial
  bootstrap of the CLI.

Downloads and Documentation

The official source code for the v5.1 release, can be downloaded from the Apache
CloudStack downloads page at http://cloudstack.apache.org/downloads.html. A
community maintained distribution is available at the Python Package Index

Re: Doubts about cloudstack

2014-04-24 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
The gateway is a router managed by you, not by CloudStack. Think of each POD as
a rack of servers for example. The IP addresses for the guest VMs will be
derived from the POD’s IP range. To communicate between pods (and to the rest
of the world), the guest traffic has to cross the pod subnet into another
subnet. This is the gateway (the first-hop router for the pod)

Thanks a lot!

What I meant by Is it the host itself or another VM that will be created
by cloudstack? was:
The gateway is a VM created by cloudstack using the IP I provided in the
creation of the zone or is it the host (hypervisor) itself? Or none of
these options?

2014-04-24 14:35 GMT-03:00 Rafael Weingartner
rafaelweingart...@gmail.commailto:rafaelweingart...@gmail.com:

Is it created on the basic zone?
Yeah, it is create on basic zone. And if I am not wrong, it is also created
on advanced zone setup.
When? After the system VMs or before?
It is created right before a user VM starts, the system VMs can be deployed
without a VR.
Is it the responsible to provide dhcp to VMs?
It provides DHCP to VMs, it is also responsible to the reset password
feature.
Another question is: why do I put the gateway on pod and guest traffic?
What is the role of the gateway?
It will be the gateway used to all the VMs to route their network traffic
through.

Is it the host itself or another VM that will be created by cloudstack?
I did not get this one. ;)

Re: All Windows VMs stop unexpectedly - every half hour or so.

Best to ask on the libvirt / KVM lists. I googled 'qemu: terminating on

rebuilt it from scratch, and still after few months it started crashing...

I use cloudmonkey to check if VM is running, and start it if not...

Problem is I don't know/have any details on WHY this crash happens..

What is the way to debug this crashing, from qemu/libvirt anyone ?

Thanks

 Hello,

 The libvirt log says:
 2013-12-10 14:40:04.881+: 1752: error : qemuMonitorIO:615 : internal
error: End of file from monitor

Which would mean that qemu crashed. However, qemu log says this:
qemu: terminating on signal 15 from pid 1752
 2013-12-10 14:40:04.881+: shutting down

Which would mean that libvirt killed it (pid 1752 is libvirtd)

The hosts are Centos 6.4 and Ubuntu 13.04, the primary storage is nfs.
This
happens no matter which host the VM runs in. Also, there are three
Windows
VMs total and they all crash within minutes of each other. For example,
VM1
crashed at 14:40:04, VM2 (same host) crashed at 14:40:34 and VM3
(different
 host) crashed at 14:35:19

What can be done to prevent this?

libvirtd, or qemu-kvm. Since the mac addresses have never had a

suspect the UUID is random with a common seed. Just not sure what piece

Upgrade instructions are generally included with the install guide.

Re: nf_nat_ftp kernel module is missing in v4.2 virtual router

2013-11-07 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
You can try injecting the modprobe into one of the startup scripts
(/etc/init.d/cloud-early-config), that way you wouldn't need a new
template.
In this case you would have to merely modify the systemvm.iso

In our company we upgrade to v4.2, now the virtual routers doesn't have

We can resolve this adding manually with:

:~# modprobe nf_nat_ftp (inside VR)

And works, but if i need restart VR we loose that rule so i need edit
system template for router and add that module.

The problem is how edit or find system VR template.

If i turn off the router i can't have option for create snapshot or
identify *.qcow2 file (for edit outside and upload as a new template)

In storage tab i see only ROOT volumes, not VR (virtual routers) volumes.

Someone can help me please...?

Re: Q: Cloudstack S3 performance

2013-10-25 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
Hi Zoran,

Unfortunately there is no active maintenance on this piece of code. There
is a related discussion here:
http://s.apache.org/zr

On 10/24/13 6:14 PM, Zoran Rajic z...@ddn.com wrote:

Hello fellow Cloudstack users,

This is my first post to this mailing list, so please excuse me if I'm not
following the proper etiquette.

My name is Zoran, and I'm a developer working for a DDN company. While
investigating the Cloudstack S3 and its performance, I encountered a bit
weird behavior of the Cloudstack S3 server, so I wanted to verify my
findings with you guys.

To test the S3 performance I used Python and BOTO libraries to create an
S3 client that is adding random content/name keys into the Cloudstack S3
and a single bucket. To my surprise, the Cloudstack S3 buckets were
getting more and more unresponsive. For example, at about 20'000 keys it
was taking about 10 seconds to get a bucket (BOTO ref
http://boto.s3.amazonaws.com/ref/s3.html#boto.s3.connection.S3Connection.g
e
t_bucket, AWS ref
http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/API/RESTBucketGET.html).

Did someone else also notice this significant slow-downs, or is it perhaps
just my environment and possibly misconfiguration?

Not to leave it at this, I tried to locate the delay on the Cloudstack S3
server-side, and I may have found two potential issues with
SObjectDaoImpl.listBucketObjects()  (ref
https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=cloudstack.git;a=blob;f=awsapi/s
r
c/com/cloud/bridge/persist/dao/SObjectDaoImpl.java;h=6d23757b8b57ded9443bf
e
61aaa3742590b21c49;hb=master#l71):

1) the maxKeys parameter seems to be ignored, so all 20'000+ keys (ie.
full bucket content) was being inspected instead of normally just first
1'000 keys, which is a default maxKeys value

2) the way the object's data is extracted form the MySQL seems to be using
sub-queries instead of JOINs, so something similar to this:
  objList = SQL(select * from SObject where SBucketID='xxx' );
  for (ObjectVO obj : objList) {
 objItem = SQL(select * from SObject_Item where SObjectID='yyy' );
  }

Note that the data can be retrieved in one go and lot more efficiently
if one used JOIN on the database-side, ie.
select * from sobject so LEFT JOIN sobject_item si on
so.ID=si.SObjectID where SBucketID='xxx';
However, I am not sure if the Cloudstack DAO and *VO-objects abstraction
supports database JOINs.

Can someone confirm if these are actual code issues?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
   Zoran

Passwords can be changed too. No difference in security, IMO.

Plus the api key option is always there.

In fact I first wrote it as an option ( --populate-api-keys USERNAME:PASSWORD),
but decided that it didn't buy anything.

The original code didn't pass pep8 (imports not being used etc), that's
probably a separate patch.

Maybe we can use usernames/password initially to create keys or maybe let users

Therefore, it must be: the SNAT rule in iptables in the VR is being
bypassed... that is, the packets are being forwarded without SNAT being
performed on them correctly.

 Hi,

I think when the packets are going out the packets are NATed with
private ip, that can't reach back to router.
From the VR when you ping public network observe with what source ip
address the packet is going out and
From the guest VM when you access public n/w observe on VR with what
source ip the packet is going out.
In later case I think the source ip address is different.

This is mostly confusing that the packets are not seen on the VR
public
interface, seeing as other services are working.
If it was a local NAT issue then the packet would atleast get into
that
interface. Do you have any upstream devices providing NAT? Or any
other VR

It may be worth recreating the VR, by stopping and destroying it and

Hi all.

I'm trying to test CS 4.2 and it seems that old
systemvm(acton-systemvm-02062012.qcow2.bz2) does not work with it.
After debugging I found that consoleproxy/ssvm does not get its NICs
configured.
It seems that method of passing network configuration parameters from HV
to system vms has changed - now
/usr/share/cloudstack-common/scripts/vm/hypervisor/kvm/patchviasocket.plis
used to send configuration to the system vm -
/etc/init.d/cloud-early-config tries to read it from /dev/vport0p1.
However, there is no such device in system VMs.

So, should I use new systemvm image? Where can I get it ?

2013/9/11 John Skinner john.skin...@appcore.com

I currently have GlusterFS deployed into an 8 node KVM cluster running
on
CloudStack 4.1 for primary storage. Gluster is deployed on 28 1TB
drives
across 2 separate storage appliances using a distributed-replicated
volume
with the replica set to 2. The storage network is 10Gb copper.

These are the options I have configured for the volume in Gluster, most
of
them are from a Red Hat document on configuring Red Hat Enterprise
Storage
 for VM hosting:

 performance.io-thread-count: 32
 performance.cache-size: 1024MB
 performance.write-behind-window-size: 5MB
 performance.write-behind: on
 network.remote-dio: on
 cluster.eager-lock: enable
 performance.stat-prefetch: off
 performance.io-cache: on
 performance.read-ahead: on
 performance.quick-read: on

Here are some of the numbers I was getting when benchmarking the
storage
from the KVM node directly (not a VM)

The below table is in KB/s. The test is single stream 1GB file
utilizing
Direct I/O (no cache). I used iozone to run the benchmark.

 Write 4k 45729
 Read 4k 10189
 Random Write 4k 31983
 Random Read 4k 9859
 Write 16k 182246

 Write 256k 567501
 Read 256k 218413
 Random Write 256k 508650
 Random Read 256k 229117

In the above results, I have the volume mounted to each KVM host as a
FUSE
glusterfs file system. They are added to CloudStack as a shared mount
point. In the future it would be great to utilize GlusterFS qemu
libvirt
integration with libgfapi so I could bypass fuse altogether. However,
that
would require adding that code to CloudStack to support that.

I maybe have 15 or so VMs running from the storage now and it is still
pretty snappy. Need to do some more testing though and really get it
loaded.

Right now I can think in three main reasons:

The first reason, performance (I do not know Gluster and its

Second consistency, I do not know Gluster, but swift that is also a
Distributed File System is not consistency and they make it pretty
clear on
 their page (http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/)

Swift is a highly available, distributed, eventually consistent
 object/blob store

I would not accept to storage my VMs images on a FS that is eventually
 consistent.

Third, network, I haven't used this kind of FS, but I can image that it
uses a lot of bandwidth to keep synchronizing, managing and securing
the

Where stackmaker is a yet-to-be-invented-and-written adjunct to CloudStack.

The result of the above commands would be a CloudStack management server,

No need to read the docs :)

This would probably involve some combination of marvin config and some

network card sitting in a 192.168.n.x network that can be reached by
anyone on the same 192.168.n.x network.
Creating 1 guest Centos 6.4 VM on that machine would at least let me
know that CloudStack works.

Reaching a port open on the Guest VM from a front-end would be my
ultimate goal. I just want to have a publicly accessible Apache HTTP
server on another server attached to Tomcat running on the guest VM. If
I can get this working the rest of the universe of CloudStack nirvana
should be achievable.

Adding additional machines should be possible from that point.
Adding network cards and storage devices should also be possible.

Anyone interested?

Ron

Doing some googling i've discovered that adding disable_tpa=1 to the

I've tried that and it partially works. The virtual machines are no
longer having this issue and I can get good network performance. however,
if I have a virtual router running on the host server with that network
card all traffic that routes through it is limited to 7-10kb/s. It seems
to effect forwarding one way or another.

has anyone come across this issue? Is there a way to fix it?

Both CPVMs and SSVMs are created as load requires them.

really, really like Cloudstack could resize the root disk (as the
competition does); for me it's the numero uno problem that stops a
central template repo (market place?) from existing. Imposing random
root sizes on people doesn't seem right.

Re: Global Guest Networks

2013-08-01 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
For your use case you really don't need a public network it seems.
If you were re-doing your setup, assign the public network to be something
else (VLAN UNUSEDXX, network UNUSED/24), and create a shared network with
the cidr 192.168.0.0/24.
BUT, this might not be advisable since CloudStack will create a DHCP
server on this network. But you probably ALREADY have a DHCP server on
this network which will respond to the CloudStack Vms instead of
CloudStack's own DHCP server.

On 7/30/13 8:53 AM, Christopher M. Ryan cr...@harmonia.com wrote:

Thanks Murali! Your advice has helped me create shared networks but it
doesn't work as I expected. When creating a VM on a shared network, it is
not accessible outside of the Cloudstack Console button. How would I be
able to have VMs on a shared network automatically placed on the Public
network? I know this is possible on an isolated network using
source/static NAT but we need the VMs to be able to communicate with each
other on a network that's offered globally to all users.

Here are the configurations I have:

Each server has 2 nics. I have divided up communications as follows:
   Eth0: Public and Guest
   Eth1: Storage and Management

Switch:
   VLAN 1: Public
   VLAN 2: Guest
   VLAN 3: Storage/Management - All ports thi

Public (VLAN1) is UNTAGGED on the following ports:
   1: the cloudstack server

Public (VLAN1) is TAGGED on the following ports:
   3: Host 1
   5: Host 2
   7: Host 3
   9: Host 4
15: Link to office switch (which doesn't have any VLANs
 configured)

Guest (VLAN2) is TAGGED on the following ports:
   3: Host 1
   5: Host 2
   7: Host 3
   9: Host 4

Storage/Management (VLAN3) is UNTAGGED on the following ports:
   2: Host 1
   4: Host 2
   6: Host 3
   8: Host 4
   10: SAN
   11: SAN
   12: SAN
   13: SAN
   14: ASA

The office's network is on CIDR 192.168.0.0/24. I have configured the
Public network to use VLAN ID 1 and use the same CIDR as the office
network (192.168.0.0/24)

I can get static NAT working with isolated networks by not tagging the
public VLAN on the switch and configuring the Public network to be
untagged. Unfortunately it seems shared networking requires VLAN tagging
so I tried tagging both the Public network and the corresponding Public
VLAN on the switch with VLAN ID 1 but that didn't seem to work.

I would like to have VMs within a shared network available directly
through the office network (192.168.0.0/24). Anyone know how this could
be accomplished? I have learned a lot about networking through using
CloudStack but am definitely no network engineer.

You could disable all network offerings with 'isolated' guest traffic

Re: Bug in updateUser API in CS 4.1.0

2013-06-10 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
Please see the recommendations in Prasanna's email in the thread I linked
to earlier.

On 6/10/13 12:26 PM, Anoop Rajendra anoop.rajen...@gmail.com wrote:

Hi Chiradeep,

My componentContext.xml has the following entries for the security

property name=Adapters
  list
  ref bean=MD5UserAuthenticator/
  ref bean=LDAPUserAuthenticator/
  ref bean=PlainTextUserAuthenticator/
  /list
/property
  /bean

So clearly MD5UserAuthenticator is present, and being used.

However the updateUser api isn't working as documentation states.

Here's proof of this.

1. password is password. md5sum hash of the password is
5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99

If I craft the updateUser api call as the following url,

http://localhost:8080/client/api?apiKey=68jXaZIv0O42n1h2C_KmGtHpD7YRvrYGJs
zs-d0T1pPxxxP91EYuY-gjz7pCD3pEl8x2lyLzF-WeEdupxAIUkQid=1723cb29-8dfd-4211

bnKng%3Dpassword=5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99response=json

the MD5 password stored in the database is
696d29e0940a4957748fe3fc9efd22a3 which is actually the md5 hash of
the hashed password.

However if I craft the URL to read,

http://localhost:8080/client/api?apiKey=68jXaZIv0O42n1h2C_KmGtHpD7YRvrYGJs
zs-d0T1pPxxxP91EYuY-gjz7pCD3pEl8x2lyLzF-WeEdupxAIUkQid=1723cb29-8dfd-4211
-8ca1-212e1f192455command=updateUsersignature=sms6kd0LlAsZyqOFlFE%2FROsB
lyw%3Dpassword=passwordresponse=json

then the md5 password stored in the database is
5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99, which is what I want.

As you can see, the updateUser api requires the password to be
cleartext, and not an MD5 hash (as stated in the documentation, and as
used to work previously).

By the way, the login API correctly requires the MD5 hashed password,
and will not work with a clear text password.

You can login to the virtual router and run tcpdump on eth0 to snoop for

You can also look at /var/log/dnsmasq.log inside the virtual router to

This method is also hit or miss. A lot of times I get a BSoD or Kernal
Panic with some VMs I migrated.

If this is the only way to migrate then Cloudstack is going to have a big
problem trying to get people with large existing infrastructures to
switch over to Cloudstack.
There has to be a way that the management server can look at vCenter for
existing VMs and have some sort of wizard or even API only script that
does the following.

1. Lists Existing VMs on a vCenter cluster.
2. Allow you to select the VMs you would like to migrate into cloudstack
and assign each vm to a user/group
Click migrate
3. A process starts to snapshot the existing server, renames and copies
the VM files to Cloudstack primary storage.
4. Cloudstack then updates its database to reflect the new inventory.

I am sure my process is missing a bunch of things but in general this
should be possible I think. I wish I was a programmer so I could help

What type of network in CloudStack is the VM using, and what exactly is
the problem or error? For a basic zone with security groups it might
not be possible without hacking the iptables/ebtables on the host
running the VM. For a shared network it will probably work, provided
your network infrastructure is configured to allow it.

When adding an IP from a different subnet that is not being utilized by

If there is interest, the GRE controller implementation can be easily be
extended to KVM and productized
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/mg-MAQ is the feature
And
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/nA-MAQ are some unimplemented
improvements

Good to see it's going into Felton but that's the Citrix roll. What

At the moment, the only way is to add additional availability zones,
however there are some plans to support VXLAN with Felton Release!

Subject: How do you work around the 4096 VLANs limitation?

It is understood that the maximum number of VLAN is 4096 in advanced
zone.
and it is very common one account can own 3-4 VLANs in practice. maybe
more. therefore hundreds of account can be only supported in one zone.
how you beyond this limitation? To add more zones?

Re: Can I connect Cloudstack to a Hypervisor with existing VMs?

2013-03-29 Thread Chiradeep Vittal
CloudStack generally keeps its hands off of vms that do not conform to its
naming scheme (i-x-abcde). If the name conforms to this naming scheme then
the vm is likely to be killed by CloudStack since CloudStack has no record
of this.

Capacity calculations will be off I think if you run non-CloudStack Vms
(depending on the hypervisor).

From the cloudstack installation guide, I know that I should have a clean
hypervisor host when deploy cloudstack. But I think that is ideally.
sometimes, we need to migrate host with existed VMs into cloudstack in
practice. of course, we can export the VMs from hypervisor and then
import
it after deploy cloudstack complete. It is very inefficient. I have
thought
about this issue for a long time. I found network and storage is the
biggest barrier for migrating. Existed VMs may use local storage. then can
not put it into a zone only with share storage. we can also not assign a
proper network to it since we need to keep the ip unchanged. But I think
we
can work around these issue. and I make a simple test to add a host with
some VMs into cloudstack. The happen after that surprise me. Cloudstack
connect to the host successfully and I can access all existed VMs in the
host as normal. Did it indicate that it is possible to migrate host with
VMs into cloudstack? If not, would you like to tell me what would happen
and what risk should I take.
