[libreoffice-users] Problem with java x.x.24
There was a post in here recently about the latest java update, version 1.6.0_24, causing problems with Base. I'm getting a lot of encouragement from both my Macs to upgrade to this version, which I'm resisting hard, but I just wanted to know whether anyone knows whether the problem is fixed, either in Base or in Java. Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem with java x.x.24
Java 1.6.0_24 is still not upgraded, and from a practical standpoint makes base horrendously sluggish. One would think if Oracle owns Java and Oracle owns OpenOffice they should be able to get this fixed. LibreOffice 3.3.2 did not improve the situation. [libreoffice-users] Import Microsoft Word (.doc) document with EndNote X4 citations
Hi, Just posting a bug/solution I found for importing a Microsoft Word document (.doc) with EndNote X4 citations into LibreOffice 3.3.0 with the EndNote X4 plugin installed. When importing a MS Word document saved in 97-2003 format (.doc) into LibreOffice (w/ the EndNote plugin installed) the in-text citations no longer appear. To fix this, save the document (.doc) using Microsoft Word in the most recent format (.docx). Importing into LibreOffice now preserved the in-text citations. Hope this helps someone. [libreoffice-users] convert Math to epub
Hello, I would like to convert LibreOffice document that contains Math formulas to ePub format. If I save it as PDF, the formulas are showed fine. If I open with Calibre the .odt or .html (zip) files saved by LibreOffice, that everything is ok except the math formulas. They don't showed at all. Re: [libreoffice-users] convert Math to epub
I had good luck with eScape, but it really isn't supported anymore. But are you saying that you saved in pdf then used calibre to convert to epub from pdf and the formulas were dropped? I did not see that at all and would not expect that in any case. If I were you I wold think about moving your docs to epub in this fashion. Now, as to writer2epub, there are some issues: preferences button does not work and indeed the formulas are dropped. I tested with inserting latex via writer2latex as well and though the image was inserted in the LO doc, the image was dropped by writer2epub as well. However, if I import odt directly to calibre the equations placed with writer2latex work, but not the equations placed with LO's equation editor. I suppose one could post to the calibre forum, but the answer wold likely be that this is an issue with LO. Re: [libreoffice-users] convert Math to epub
I asked Werner Donne to see if odf2epub would work. The test resulted in the tex being handled properly, but the LO math appeared but only as a text expression. Werner indicated that the isue was that epub readers did not yet handle MathMl islands. This is part of a continuing issue with OOo which incorporates MathML but not in a way transparent to other applications. For example, you really need additonal export macros to be able to convert an OOo doc to Xhtml+MathML, as saving an OOo doc to html frmat converts equations to images. So, as a result of the above, if you save the doc with your equations as LO Writer html, and then import into calibre, and then convert to epub, all equations will ppear as you intended, because LO converts all those equatins to images when saving to html. Re: [libreoffice-users] convert Math to epub
Hello Mark, (I had good luck with eScape, but it really isn't supported anymore. I forgot to mention: I 'm working on Mac, and I found only Windows and Debian version of eScape.) But are you saying that you saved in pdf then used calibre to convert to epub from pdf and the formulas were dropped? No, I was happy only that in the pdf version from LO, the formulas were showed nice! :) I imported odt and html versions into Calibre. I asked Werner Donne to see if odf2epub would work. The test resulted in the tex being handled properly, but the LO math appeared but only as a text expression. Werner indicated that the isue was that epub readers did not yet handle MathMl islands. Ok, but I saw some epub and mobi math books with nice formulas. Even if I increase the font size the formulas were increased, too. So it seems there are not simple image formulas. Therefore has to be some kind of solution. I would be prefer an LO solution. This is part of a continuing issue with OOo which incorporates MathML but not in a way transparent to other applications. For example, you really need additonal export macros to be able to convert an OOo doc to Xhtml+MathML, as saving an OOo doc to html frmat converts equations to images. So, as a result of the above, if you save the doc with your equations as LO Writer html, and then import into calibre, and then convert to epub, all equations will appear as you intended, because LO converts all those equatins to images when saving to html. It is true for the html version converted from LO, where the formulas are images and showed correctly. If I increase the font size in the browser, the formula picture is growing even though the quality will be worse. But if I open this LO html version into Calibre, the result will be the following: - some very simple pictures will be showed, - most of the formula pictures won't be showed. The place of the formula is empty or sometime I can see instead of the formula an empty rectangle with a thin grey border. So there are two problems with this solution: - the most of the formula pictures vanish and - if the formula is showed, it is a fixed size image. ( Mac OS X 10.6.6 and 10.6.7, LO 3.3.1) Zoli Hello, I would like to convert LibreOffice document that contains Math formulas to ePub format. If I save it as PDF, the formulas are showed fine. [libreoffice-users] request a feature
How is it possible to request a feature? E.g. I know everything can be configured through macros but out-of-the box functionality they are trying to find instinctively is more important if we want to encourage people to use libre office. However, if I understand correctly the question, Roger wants to know if there is a way to keep a standard Write window open, but with a grey work zone, just like what happens with Microsoft Windows. To that, I'll say NO. I would add that most (all?) modules of LibreOffice are more tightly integrated than those of Microsoft Office, so no time or resources are wasted by loading the start screen. -- Michel Gagnon – mic...@mgagnon.net mailto:mic...@mgagnon.net Montréal (Québec, Canada) – mgagnon.net http://mgagnon.net -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***
