Yes, I can confirm the "bad news" (on WinXP);
the same with LibO-dev 3.5.0 Build ID: 9933b2a-1e62dcb-2c8122e,
'master~2011-09-24_00.41.37_LibO-Dev_OOO350m1_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe'.

After adding 'msvcr90.dll' to the '/program/' directory, the
above mentioned error message 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!...' has been displayed by executing 'soffice.exe'.

I have noticed:
'soffice.exe' has only 14 KB
(instead of 1077 KB, e.g.: master~2011-09-12_16.09.34_LibO-Dev_OOO350m1,
LibO-dev 3.5.0 Build ID: 8cc839d-3dca5fd-4525197)

Also:
'soffice.bin': 10 KB against 1070 KB,
'swriter.exe': 8 KB against 37 KB,
etc.

Thank you for the feedback.

It is clearly not the case that the MSVC files are not installed because LO
version 3.4.3 is running perfectly.

I suggest that all non-working builds are removed from the daily folder.
Also there is no point in building daily non-working binaries until the
problem is fixed.

It will save time, bandwidth and needless comments from unhappy users :)

If you want all 200 pages to have their own JPEG file, then you want to
do an HTML export.

Create a folder to hold the HTML presentation. Use the Export and
choose HTML. Choose the defaults, but you will need to change the image
section to JPG, compression rate, and the screen size. I just did this
and got thumbnails of the images and the images in the screen size. I
used 3.4.1 for Ubuntu 64-bit.

The images will be numbered from 0 to 199 - for 200 slides.

Why do you need to have all the pages converted to JPEG?

Hi :)
If you want greater stability then the official releases are better.  I think
the daily builds are pre-release and only really for testing purposes?  I agree
about fundamentally broken ones being removed but isn't it part of the
process?  ie you find how something is broken and then someone finds a way to
fix it?  Without the build it might not be clear that there is a breakage or
what has caused it.

Yes, daily builds are meant for testing purposes.

If there was a scenario in which it would work for some people but not for
others then it would be worth leaving them online in order to narrow down
what circumstances prevented it from working on some PCs but not on others.

But since these builds are not working AT ALL and this is known, I believe
it is better to pull them off. There is no point in additional people
downloading them to find out that they are broken :)

I agree with you.
It is a lot  of work to test/verify the bugfixes, enhancements and new features;
to write bug reports, and to test again...

So downloading, installing and testing completely malfunctioning
master builds--again and again--will demotivate QA contributors.

The last acceptable master build (for me) on
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/Windows_XP_SP3/master/
has been the version 2011-09-12_16.09.34/
(and before: the now removed version 2011-09-06_02.34.59).

Please take into account
(as far as I remeber):

(1) The master builds
2011-09-09_19.24.47/
2011-09-10_23.04.28/
2011-09-13_20.44.55/
are nearly unusable due to
Bug 40902 - FILEOPEN CRASH with trivial lorem ipsum text document
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40902
(partially also FILESAFE CRASH).

(2) The master builds
2011-09-22_20.23.05/
2011-09-24_00.41.37/
fail to start any LibO application.

(3) The failing master builds on
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/Voreppe_Win32_Tinderbox/
are now removed.

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice / OpenOffice Calc very slow with Excel File

2011-09-25 Thread Vinod Nadiadwala
Hi, there
I am using LibreOffice 3.4.3 on Windows 7, i am moving my ogranization
office suite to LibreOffice from ms-office, but having some issues with
large excel files, most of the excel files works very very slow with
libreoffice, i have searched google but unable to find the solutions, you
can download sample file from the following URL which i have uploaded to my
organization website.

http://www.bhushitech.com/downloads/sample.xls
(File Size: Around 8 MB )

This is lowest size which i have, if i open this file in excel it works
well, but when i try to open it with LibreOffice Calc application it works
very slow, i have also tried it with OpenOffice 3.3 but still the issue is
same.

I have also tried converting it to the .ODS using fileconverter.com, file
size dramatically reduced (Around 300kb only) but still it takes around 15
min to open the file, and after opening if i move cursor it take lot of time
to move from one screen to another screen.

(MY PC Configuration is enough good, so the configuration is not an issue,
as i have also tried it on IBM X3400 SERVER's with 16 GB Memory)

Hi :)
Another route might be to
File - "Export to Pdf"
Pdf is basically an image format and can be opened by most image editing
software, such as Gimp.
http://www.gimp.org/
>From there you can save it to most formats.

Any Jpg image can suffer from wrinkles around sharp objects in the picture,
like the bow-wave a boat creates.  It is a "lossy" compression.  Gif tends to
be better for documents but doesn't handle smooth colour changes well.  It's
better for sharp changes in colour such as text or logos.  It's usually much
lighter-weight than Jpg so it's often better for websites or emailing.  Gif can
also hold layers although 200 might be too many.  You can play around with how
the layers are handled after saving and re-opening.  I often get the first page
to display fairly briefly and then any page with written text a lot slower.
Other people have each layer display extremely briefly to make a very
light-weight animation.  Png also allows layers.  It is "lossless" compression
so you don't get weird crinkles or strange distortions.  Sometimes file-sizes
are a little bigger.  Jpg is the famous one but Png is usually better quality,
more flexible and just as
easy to use.

Most people are familiar with straight Pdf though so you might like to see if
that is better for the task.  As Tim said, it depends on why you need Jpg.

If you want all 200 pages to have their own JPEG file, then you want to do an
HTML export.

Create a folder to hold the HTML presentation.  Use the Export and choose
HTML.  Choose the defaults, but you will need to change the image section to
JPG, compression rate, and the screen size.  I just did this and got thumbnails
of the images and the images in the screen size.  I used 3.4.1 for Ubuntu
64-bit.

The images will be numbered from 0 to 199 - for 200 slides.

Why do you need to have all the pages converted to JPEG?

ok but remember for new user has not experience like terminal or other
software...
i wanted that libreoffice has rich features until new user will be like and
download libreoffice "because libreoffice is rich features"
example my friends dont know linux, not know terminal, they dont know to how
install third-part.. my friends are very good but not know.. this mean they are
newbie users...

for me it's not bad if libreoffice adds new feature like style
(http://dhdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Gwenview-snapshot05.png) right?
it's not pain right?

do you think if libreoffice offers export various so users don't like it?not
users will like it and download it..

i wanted libreoffice offers rich feature with little code like export, but not
big code like improved fast boot libreoffice.
for little code can add feature rich, for bog code there is time for future
roadmap but not miss it for big code ok?
but for me importante is libreoffice is grow up like young, stable, new fashion
but new feature so attracts to new users to use it, new download.

for now fashion is:
facebook, flickr, youtube, blog, so i think libreoffice can add new feature:
export to flickr, etc.. see link
picture:http://dhdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Gwenview-snapshot05.png

this is an example for explain to you team libreoffice ok?
thank you again

Hi, Andreas:

Thanks. I assume that solves this particular instance.

However, evidently, this example exposes a problem with how
LibreOffice and OpenOffice interpret an Excel file, because the process
of opening that file in LibreOffice either created 4,500 objects that
weren't there or interpreted 4,500 objects in the file differently from
how Microsoft Office interpreted them.

Remind me: What is the procedure for submitting something like
this to the LibreOffice bug tracking system?

  Thanks,

This "creation" of objects is earily similar to the problems I
encountered where I would have numerous hidden buttons on a spreadsheet
that I never created. My document was created and used only under OO /
LO, never Excel.

Could the interpretation of the Excel document involve an internal
conversion to LO xml and then a read of that xml to actually "load" the
spreadsheet? I'm convinced the xml writing/reading is the source of
many of the issues I've seen.

It is quite easy (and fast) with the right program :)

First use LibreOffice's "Export as PDF" to convert the PPTX file to PDF and
make sure to choose Lossless compression (you don't want to have JPEG
compression twice)

Then download and install PDF Xchange Viewer (it's Freeware) from Tracker
Software
http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

Use PDF Xchange Viewer to open the PDF and choose File, Export, Export to
Image. Set Image type to JPEG and adjust compression in Options (don't go
under 80% Quality)

Now the final trick: adjust Page Zoom until the preview on the right shows
1920 pixels wide (you probably can't get 1080 pixels high because of the
proportions)

Now just sit back and relax until your 200 images are created ;)

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice / OpenOffice Calc very slow with Excel File

2011-09-25 Thread jorge
Hi

I suggest you to do this (I did and it was good with your "sample.xls"
file)(But I did with OpenOffice 3.2 but I supposed it will be good too
with LO):

1) Open file with LO.
2) Save file in format microsoft excel 5.0 (xls) with Save As Menu

I did and the file was opened fast and well. Then I used that file to
save as .ods and all was well too.

Somthings odd about the xls itself. I opened sample.xls (8,555KB) in
Excel 2003 and saved as a .xml and the file size is 233KB - that file
opens fine in Excel and LO. From what I can tell, the xml file contains
all of the same data that the xls does. That said, there is definitely
an issue with LO:

Linux (same machine):
LO 3.3.4 crashes and/or I have to kill
LO 3.4.3 doesn't crash but loads the cpu to 92%+ and might as well kill
OOo-dev 3.4.0 same as LO 3.4.3
OOo 3.3.0 same as LO 3.4.3

Windows XP (same virtual machine - only 1MB memory assigned):
Excel 2003 opens, little slow on 'SHR' sheet, but usable
LO 3.3.4 pretty much unusable & drives the cpu to 100%
OOo-dev same as LO 3.3.4...

Note: also saving to .ods (193.2KB) and trying to open in OOo or LO is
pretty much unusable... drives the cpu to max & on one attempt took
nearly 20 minutes to open (linux). Extracting the .ods shows the
content.xml as 17.3MB (yes that's "MB", not "KB").

$ ls -l /home/gg/tempdir/G/OOotest/sample.ods_FILES

Re: [libreoffice-users] percentage to get number in Calc

2011-09-25 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Ok, say the numbers are written along the top row such that

A1 = 646.15
A2 = 556.85

then

A4 = A2/A1

Click on A4 and go up to the menus at the top to choose

Format - Cell - Number
in the first box "Category" select "Percentage"

I think it's better to avoid keying in the currency symbol and just format
those cells as "Currency" instead of as "Percentages".  That way you still get
the currency symbol anyway but don't have to type it in.  It also avoids
confusions.  Note that i left a gap between the data and the calculation purely
because i think it looks nicer.

Tom :)

Does:

A1 = 646.15
A2 = 556.85
A3 = =A2/A1 Format|Cells|Numbers|Percent
(86.18%)

not work for you?

Hi. A spreadsheet is a different way of working. At school we would have
learned 556.85 /646.15*100 to calculate the percentage but formatting in
the spreadsheet as a percentage saves multiplying by 100.

[libreoffice-users] Two dictionary questions

2011-09-25 Thread Jeremy J. Shapiro
1) What path do the dictionaries need to be locate such that
LibreOffice will consult them and enable one to add words to them?

2) Is there a way to get LibreOffice to consult more than one
dictionary for a text that has sections in or words from two (or
more) different languages?

Yes, I think so.

I'm convinced the xml writing/reading is the source of

Looking at the findings of various people here, I think this spreadsheet

[libreoffice-users] template

2011-09-25 Thread Howard Barr

Hi,

I love my LibreOffice.

I made a template our group can use to print business cards with their
name and address. We are a volunteer group spread out all over the
country and it would be nice if they could login to our home page,
access the template, use the screen to type in their details and print
the sheet of business cards.

I have no idea how to go about this but I guess a database would be
involved.

Can anyone help by pointing me in the right direction where I can learn
to help myself?

Many thanks

Regards
Howard
