can you run any other Base files using an embedded db on that machine,

Hi Drew

Thanks for the reply.

I originally developed my DB in OO about 6 years back and have been
using it in OO since then. I've always used the embedded engine. When LO
'forked' away from OO I tried that but could never get my Database to
run - it would just crash Base whereas it was still working in OO. As
each version of LO came out I gave it another try always with the same
results. About a month or two back with some suggestions from the Forum
I moved my DB to LO and re-developed my front-end Form and it worked!!
But I ran into another problem which escapes me right now so moved back
to OO.

With my latest upgrade to Mint 12 KDE I had a problem that LO would not
even start. So I installed OO again and it ran OK BUT I had problems
with it not saving data. So I removed OO and re-installed LO (from the
LO WebSite) and this is where I sit now with the "No SDBC driver found"
error.

I have no other DB to try but yesterday I found an old backup of my
Database from about a year ago and tried to open that and got the same
SDBC error. I can however create a new database in LO with no problems.
My file is 640Mb in size and if I look at it with an un-zip program I
can "see" all the contents.

Yes - I am on skype - 'ianzs6cdx' (But only Keyboard-to-Keyboard as I
have not had a chance to get my microphone working in Mint 12 yet!!)

Thanks a lot.

AFAIK the normal capitalization is determined by the language settings.

In the footer, enter the text you want: "This fax continues on page "
without the quotes. Please note that there is a space after the word
"page". Then use the Control+F2 key combination to open the Fields
dialog. Click the Document tab. Click "Page" in the Type list. Then
click "Page numbers" in the Select list. Select "Arabic (1 2 3)". Now
enter the number 1 in the Offset box. Click Insert, and then click
Close.

[libreoffice-users] LO Base - calculating dates

2012-01-27 Thread cbeckmore
Hi,

I'm a very basic Base user. Can't seem to find any info on having Base
calculate a date in a Table.  I want to enter the date of a Lease Agreement;
follow up is required at 6 months and 12 months, it would be nice to have
these dates automatically calculated

I'm hoping I can set this up directly in the Table; or do I need to make a
query?

If I need to make a query, how do I enter it into the form? Currently these
dates are part of a subform in datasheet format.

Thanks in advance for your help,

CB

[libreoffice-users] Window focus bug when importing a file into Calc

2012-01-27 Thread Fabian Rodriguez

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi

Before reporting this as a bug I wanted to know if Mac and Gnu/Linux
users can reproduce it

The problem: When importing a text file into Calc (eg. CSV), the import
dialog does not steal focus as expected

This only happend when LibO is already open in the background with
another document. As a result, on a busy desktop, the window does not
show up and it can be interpreted as if nothing happened.

Steps to reproduce in Windows Libo 3.5rc2:

1) Open any valid document with LibO, move it to background/non visible
screen (when in multiple screen setup)
2) Create a text file with anything in it
3) While having the explorer on top of all application, "Open With.."
the newly created file with Calc
4) A window asking questions to finish the import will show up *under*
the current file explorer window

Thanks for any confirmations.

F.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem printing an .xls file

2012-01-27 Thread Don C. Myers
Hi Maurice,

When I print it on a Samsung ML-1710 laser, it prints fine except there
is no left hand margin. The cells in Column A are right against the left
edge of the paper. I saved it in ods format, and had the same thing.
Then I inserted a new column A, so that all of the other columns moved 1
column to the right. I made the new column .49 inches wide, and it
printed fine.

Hi Ian

Sorry but I need to catch up.

This is a 650Meg file using the embedded db engine, right.
The file is usable on other machines, but not on the Mint based machine
you need it on and this stopped working after the most recent update of
the OS (to version 12) - do I have that correct?

If so one quick question - can you run any other Base files using an
embedded db on that machine, since the upgrade?

Thanks

A simple 'paste' (or Ctrl-V) results in the problem, but 'Paste Special'

I really don't know what other details I can give... these are all

Under LO 3.4.5, although a Print Preview is complete, the actual printed

It is better to remove the old connector from your 3.5 configuration

If you have a 64bit Mint then you will need a 64bit connector which
means compiling from scratch.

The same goes for Windows, except you will also need to download the
mysql C connector library (32bit) from the mysql web site and put it
somewhere where the local git repository for the LO source code can
acess it.

The best place to start is the Developer wiki page :

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/developers/

This will get you started with the basic setup of your development
environment. You can not build the mysql connector without having the
complete LO source as a local git repository on the machine that does
the building.

My personal experience was one of pain on MacOSX, and it still gets
broken rather easily on that, and yet one of ease on Linux, which is
hardly surprising since that is the OS of choice for most of the
developers involved in the project.

Ah, yes. But that then puts me in your boat, not being able to mailmerge

I suppose, if the view things turns out not to work, a

The old mysql connector versions (i.e. the Oracle ones) should now work

been integrated, which they should have been by now).

I am not building on Windows, and so I won't be providing a mysql

But I don't get what all this has to do with HSQLDB, which was Ian's

GNU/Linux (Ubuntu 11.10).

Various fonts, including Plantin, but mostly my own (work in progress).
In all of them I have verified the character widths in Fontforge.

The fault appears on screen, and I must confess that I had not thought
of printing a test. In doing so now, however, I think I have discovered
where the problem lies. In what I use as normal editing mode (what Open
Office and Libre Office mysteriously call “web layout”) the problem
occurs; when I change to “print layout” it disappears. Likewise, when I
print a file the problem is not there.
Good catch, web and print layouts are different. Web layout assumes the
primary/only viewing will be on screen not on paper. Thus the spacing is
different to make it easier to read on screen, at least that is the theory.

Personally I have not found print layout to be difficult to read on
screen with a large monitor.

Thanks to your question I now know where the problem lies, and indeed it
is not such a serious one if I know of a way around it, and can be sure
that texts will print properly.

I *want* to omit empty fields from my report.

I'm using the report writer to print address labels (sheets really,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Mail Merge print from Query instead of table.

2012-01-27 Thread Fernand Vanrie

Query's are not working , Views (who are a kind of query's) are by LO
seen as tables and act like that in mailmerge

Have provided a temporary work around for myself by creating temporary tables
from my Query and using these for my mail merge. However it would be much
less of a convoluted method if I was able to work directly with the query.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

How about using a View (haven't tried it, so please don't flame me if it
doesn't work) ?

I seem to recall that there were some known bugs with mailmerge from
various db sources (CSV, Excel, Calc sheets for example, but perhaps
queries also fall within the same lame boat).

The old mysql connector versions (i.e. the Oracle ones) should now work
again on Windows, at least in 3.5RC2 (if Fridrich Strba's changes have
been integrated, which they should have been by now).

I am not building on Windows, and so I won't be providing a mysql
connector based on current master code source. I only provide for Mac
and (Ubuntu) Linux 32bit from master (and not from previous versions of LO).

But I don't get what all this has to do with HSQLDB, which was Ian's
initial problem ?

That would be me, and you already have my e-mail address, since we have
previously exchanged comms on another db problem.

As I have just reported on the bug issue 32948, the Address Book
Datasource Wizard works for me with my most recent build of LO source

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base - No SDBC driver found!!

2012-01-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
It is going to take more than 1 more person to sort out Base.  We need to find
a way of getting a whole load of people involved.  The BoD has decided to just
sit&wait and is happy to leave it to chance and natural progression (ie waiting
for devs to move beyond Writer and Calc towards the more interesting challenges
presented by Base).  There is a bit more activity in OpenOffice.org so perhaps
we should just wait and see if we can use whatever happens there!  LibreOffice
has higher priorities than sorting out Base as Base is fine for most people
most of the time apparently.

Tom :)

Excellent suggestion! My bad for not looking it up before posting. That
error message sure does provide a tip (which is unusual in Windows :) )
This means that there is a problem with the RC installer since it didn't
provide the same error.

I know how to use it :) I was just curious if other people actually used

I have changed the permissions in Drive D: I have no idea what changed them
but then again, this is Windows...

It is working as expected now.

Re: [libreoffice-users] solution to hungarian crash on launch writer

2012-01-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Do you know which version of Java 6?  Was it the 6u21 or a more recent version?

I think you mean in Windows?  If so you can check what versions of java are
installed on the machine through the machine's Control Panel but you could also
see through LibreOffice menus

Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Java

That route should work on most Operating Systems, not just Windows

HUNGARIAN CRASH ???   INSTALL JAVA 6   SIX is a must.. this is a reproducible
error, if you only have JAVA 7  , the install seems ok but on first launch of
writer crash at Hungarian,,, if you do custom install with no Hungarian, then
it crashes further into the launch process,,..  leave other JAVAS on your

and the problem will be solved..
PS if you know how to put this into the official bug reporting system please do

OK!!! I've cracked the permissions problem!!!

By using Dolphin>Root Actions>Change Permissions I've been able to make

*BUT* - That leaves me back with my original problem. When I try to open
my Database I get the error "No SDBC driver found".

This is now urgent and I must get an answer to this.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base - No SDBC driver found!!

2012-01-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Would something like

ps aux | grep name-of-backend

show if somehow the database thinks it is doing a process?  Is it possible to
see what the permissions of a file are set as?  I assume the back-end is
created by the user that is using the back-end rather than created by
RootUser/SuperUser/Admin?  If so can other users access and update the database
or how are the permissions set to allow that?

Sorry i'm just throwing in some stupid thoughts as i really don't know how all
that is supposed to work.  I guess the Base guide's first couple of chapters
have not been able to help?

I've made a new copy of the file but permissions are still grayed out!! I tried
changing them with Dolphin, Dolphin as root and using chmod but they still
remain greyed out.

Any other ideas??

You can select multiple functions for the same data field. The function
selector is a multi-select list box.
Indeed, you can not add the same function twice this way. The
work-around for this is a duplicate of the original field in the source
table.

I guess you just bumped into the LO Pivot Table limitations (compared to MS
Office)
In MS Office you would just add again the same data field Count and choose
to display results as a percentage or add the totals as percentage.

I'm almost sure that you can't do that in the LibreOffice Pivot Tables
(unless there are some undocumented features that I'm not aware of? )

Thanks to your question I now know where the problem lies, and indeed it
is not such a serious one if I know of a way around it, and can be sure
that texts will print properly.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base question - report exception on faultless query

2012-01-27 Thread Mark Stanton
Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it was a bit short on details, but I
thought there were enough, obviously not.

I had the query set for "Do not analyze", which I thought would stop
Base from inspecting the SQL, but apparently not.

I'm using MySQL via the jDBC... Thingy.
In fact the piece it was complaining about was where I was using
CAST, incorrectly, to match a text field containing numbers to a
numeric field. Funnily enough MySQL by itself was able to cope with
this and execute the query correctly, but Base decided to interfere.

It also fails to understand the MySQL TRIM function, although LTRIM
is recognised. Again this is with "Analyze" set to "NO". This seems
incorrect to me. However, this has resolved the issue for me and I
can now get it to work.

Regards
Mark Stanton
