Ha ha! Yeah, right. Thanks.

This works. IMO this is counter-intuitive: moving/acting against a
frame/whatever is done by selecting the widget, isn't it?

Drawback: doesn't work when there's nothing but the table within the frame.

I do, too. But the use of selection/action with the mouse is quite

Yes there is. Chapter 7 of the Writer Guide contains a section on
Paragraph styles. This will tell you how to assign a language for
spelling to a selected paragraph. So, you can have one or more
paragraphs in Spanish and some other paragraphs in English. By creating
a paragraph style for English and another for Spanish and assigning them
their respective paragraph styles, you can correctly spell check the
entire document.
If you want to mix words from different languages in a single
paragraph, create the appropriate character styles for the desired
language (done the same way as when creating paragraph styles for
languages). By doing this, I can correctly spell check the following
paragraph for three languages at once:
No hablo Español. Aber Ich kann Deutch. Neat little trick, isn't
it?
Comment: I applied the Spanish character style to the first
sentence and German to the second sentence. Since my chosen language is
English (USA), the spell checker automatically checked spelling in
English for anything that did not have a language character style
applied to it.

[libreoffice-users] Multiple language settings for spell check

2012-04-12 Thread Calvin Kim

Is there a way to spell check multiple languages at once?
If Western and Asian language are mixed, LibO seems to understand
differences and use proper language dictionaries. But if I try to use
two Western languages like English and Spanish, all Spanish words are
filtered, because LibO only use English dictionary to spell check.

I just found out, in Adobe Illustrator, you can highlight words and
assign them to proper language setting, so that spell check will not
pick them up as typo. It would be nice if LibO has a similar function.

For an example, if there is an option in 'character style' setting to
set languages. Then LibO will know exactly which words are in what language.

How do you think?

Moving a frame using direction keys is straightforward. Combined with

Strangely, when the frame holds a table, the [Alt]+direction key will
not move the frame any more, but it will redimension the embedded
table instead.

Note: this only happens if the table is not preceeded by any character

Frame is anchored to page or to paragraph so that it's free to move
anywhere.
Using just arrows works alright. But if you try to fine tune the
movement with "+arrow" it's not working properly.

You do not know how to edit a shape's text?
Try a double-click on the shape.

I have used OCRAD to scanacontract to text for writer but Tesseract
seems to get better results.
I found that PDFs produced from MSO I cannot edit, some I can't even
print properly. Must be the format they are produced in. Interesting

If I open a pdf that contains encoded text I can edit the pdf text in
LO, but a pdf may not have text encoded in it, in which case you would
have to do OCR etc.

Mmm, that's weird. I'm using LibO 3.4.4 in Ubuntu 11.10.
To correct it,

1. Do not highlight the frame.
2. Move your cursor to outside of table, and inside of frame (to below
   the table perhaps)
3. Then [Alt]+direction key works fine.

I though this was about PDF, so if you find something that does the
OCR thing on PDF files and save the result as PDF, it ”works” with
everything that can open PDF, including LibreOffice.

Not likely - it's too specific to a particular use case.

Ok - so I put a little time into this today, the updated ODB file once
again at:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.odb

In the basic script did a little refactoring, so it is not quite as ugly
as it was and added the ability to save the image control display
settings into the database record, per image link, and then decode that
and set the image control appropriately as you move through the record
set.

Three things are left un-done and maybe they should be, as something to
be added by the final user:

1 - when a new record is created, if the user clicks on an image control
setting (scale mode / bckground color) the values are encoded and
written to the record in memory, since the image link is not a required
field the user could store this, which doesn't really make a lot of
sense.

2 - When the saved image control settings are read back the image
control is updated, but not the displayed value for the three scale mode
checkbox controls or the background color list box.

3 - Setting the image control background to Transparent just doesn't
work - don't now why, setting the value to EMPTY should equal 'Default'
and that should be Transparent, IIRC... but maybe someone can figure
that out.

Also - changed the UI of the form a little.
- The datacontrol (textbox) for the stored image link is again
displayed, but as read only. You still use the File Selector to update
the value.

Guess that's it really then for the basic script stuff.

So the hard part, for me at least, is left which is explaining how this
works.

I've got a fair bit of time today, so can work on that - any help with
that is always welcome.

Last but not least - Drag n Drop - you know we could add that to the
form. It requires diving a bit deeper into the API, as one needs to
create runtime listeners for events (not the same as filling in slots no
the control property editor at design time), not today - but it is
something that can be done with scripting also.

over the past month along with unchanged records from the previous month.

I need to compare the two sets of information to update my Master file
which is more comprehensive then the monthly update. I do not want to
make these comparisons manually - there are in excess of 2000 records in
each file.

Each record is of the format
Field 1. Master Number (assigned by another agency)
Fields 2-30. Various data formats

If a record, as determined by the Master Number field, exists on both

SELECT * FROM "Master" WHERE "ID" IN (SELECT "ID" FROM "Slave")
Then create a form on "Master" and a subform on "Slave" for an easy eye

If the field contents of one record are not

identical to the corresponding field in the similar record in the other
file, I would like to be able to have this record brought to my
attention with anomalies highlighted

second subform:
SELECT * FROM "Master", "Slave"
WHERE "Master"."ID"="Slave"."ID"
AND("Master"."F1"<>"Slave"."F1"
OR "Master"."F2"<>"Slave"."F2"
OR "Master"."F3"<>"Slave"."F3"
OR "Master"."F4"<>"Slave"."F4"
OR "Master"."F5"<>"Slave"."F5"
OR "Master"."F6"<>"Slave"."F6"
OR "Master"."F7"<>"Slave"."F7"
OR "Master"."F8"<>"Slave"."F8"
OR ...)

If a record, as determined by its Master Number, is in one sheet and not
in the other I would like this anomaly brought to my attention also

SELECT * FROM "Master" WHERE "ID" NOT IN (SELECT "ID" FROM "Slave")

Is there a way that this can be done?

Thanks,

RE: [libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: cell protection + cut & paste

2012-04-12 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
I spoke too soon. Absolute references don't solve this problem, because even
those are updated when moves happen, such as the cut and paste in the
demonstration example. There actually needs to be a way to block cutting and
other operations that relocate cells if formulas are to be protected from
movement of their operands.

Although that is surprising behavior, it is what happens when a cell used by a
formula is moved by cut and paste. The formula can't be edited, but it is
still responsive to relocation of cells it depends on.

It is a little surprising in the case of a protected-formula cell. The way to
deal with it in a protected sheet is to use absolute references in the
protected formula. (Unfortunately, disallowing selection of unprotected cells
prevents too much.)

It looks like a bigger issue might be whether it is possible to prevent editing
operations (cut especially but also row-column insertions and deletions) in a
sheet with protections turned on. All while still allowing data entry into
unprotected cells.

 - Dennis

PS: I just tried this in Excel 2010. The same thing happens to the C1 formula
but pasting the cut of A1 into A2 causes the C2 formula to show a #REF! error.
But if I cut the two-cell selection of A1:A2 and paste it into A2 (so A2:A3 get
the result), there's no complaint and both the C1 and C2 formulas have their
references to column A adjusted. (Excel 2010 offers an incredible number of
controls on what can be done with the protected sheet though, including control
of what can be selected.)

A workaround is INDIRECT() function to avoid the cut/paste:

C1: =INDIRECT("A2")+INDIRECT("B1")

This need edit C1 to change the reference to cells, because as you can
see the references are texts and don't change with cut/paste A2 and B1.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printer Dialogs

2012-04-12 Thread mal

No, no help from the lists I'm afraid. I entered it as a bug 48514

It's a bit of a pain as all our big printers are Ricoh. Every other
application
get's right :-( There has to be some way to tell LO - It must be
getting it's

information from the system somehow. LO can't possible have a database
of every printer out there. Why does it get it wrong ? ! grrr

best wishes

I wonder if I could revisit this issue again.

I have been experimenting a bit more and
LibreOffice doesn't show all the options
the printer has available.

For example:- ( With LO 3.5.n and openSuse 12.1)
In the system printer dialog my Ricoh MPC 5000
has 4 trays and a bypass. In LO it only show the 4 trays

Also it has paper types of Thick, Thick2 and Thick3 for
different weights of paper. The LO dialog only has Thick
which is a bit of a problem as some types of iron on
paper we use has to go through the printer at Thick 2 or
Thick 3

If I use something like Gimp or Chrome and print a page it shows all
the options ( 21 types of paper and 5 trays ) LO only shows
13 types of paper and 4 trays.

Where is LO getting it's information from and why is it wrong
on some printers? ( our old HP 4250's are correct but they are
pretty simple souls at the best of times ) Also, is there some
way to tell LO to get it's information from the system?

Many thanks

Re: [libreoffice-users] [Base} Compare contents of similar records on two sheets

2012-04-12 Thread Mark Stanton
Both of these will be easy to do as a query in Base, although the
first is a little tedious, provided that you can get both tables into
the same database.

Something along the lines of

SELECT * FROM
JOIN ON Master.IdField = Month.IdField
WHERE Master.Column1 <> Monthly.Column1
OR Master.Column2 <> Monthly.Column2
OR ... (The rest of the fields)

If you can't get both into the same database, don't use the embedded
database (though you wouldn't anyway, would you? ;-) ), And bring
them into separate databases and then perform that SQL using the data
engine itself, ie not through Base, even if you use Base to get the
data there in the first place.

For any database worth its salt 2000 records is tiny.

For records in one but not in the other

SELECT * FROM
WHERE IdField NOT IN (SELECT IdField FROM )

And then do it the other way around.

Regards
Mark Stanton
One small step for mankind...

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: cell protection + cut & paste

2012-04-12 Thread MiguelAngel

miakoiv wrote (11-04-12 20:32)

If a protected cell reads data from non protected cell and the user
decides
to cut + paste the information, the orginal formula in the protected
cell
will be modified.

I don't get this.
When data, that is used in a formula is changed, removed, the result of
the formula will change, not the formula.

Example:

A1: 1 B1: 2 C1: =A1+B1 (result: 3)
A2: 2 B2: 1 C2: =A2+B2 (result: 3)

Now you protect cells C1 and C2. Now this is an important spreadsheet to
customer and their employees fill the data to cells A1, A2, B1, B2. And it's
of course important that the calculations are correct.

Now the customer enters data to A1 which was supposed to go to A2. He/She
cuts the data from A1 and pastes the data to cell A2.

This is the result:
(he/she wanted to enter 1 to A2, but entered it to A1 and then cut + pasted
it to A2. Then he/she entered number 2 to A1)

A1: 2 B1: 2 C1: =A2+B1 (result: 3)
A2: 1 B2: 1 C2: =A2+B2 (result: 2)

So the formula in C1 is now A2+B1 which is different than A1+B1 so it
changed. And since the cell is protected, you can't change it back to
correct one unless you cut + paste again. But if the formulas are also
hidden, then it's totally impossible to fix it anymore.

I've heard some comments like "This is expected and wanted behaviour in all
spreadsheet applications.", but then I would like to ask what's the point of
protection when you can't protect the formulas from even the simpliest user
errors? I know that this happens in Excel too, but there you are able to
prevent user from using cut+paste (and if googled, you'll notice that people
use this quite much just for this reeason).

If this is a wanted behaviour, it should atleast give a warning to the user.
"Are you sure you want to cut + paste data? It will modify protected
formulas and you won't be able to fix those anymore and you will get wrong
results afterwards? So are you sure?" :-)

A workaround is INDIRECT() function to avoid the cut/paste:

C1: =INDIRECT("A2")+INDIRECT("B1")

This need edit C1 to change the reference to cells, because as you can
see the references are texts and don't change with cut/paste A2 and B1.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: [BASE] New to Base - Program stops RESOLVED

2012-04-12 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Just uninstalling and reinstalling non-OpenSource programs usually wipes all
your settings.  People get used to that and assume that uninstalling a program
or installing over the top of an existing program does wipe your settings.  So
programs can't be upgraded often and have to rely on minor updates instead.
Everytime you installed an upgrade, say MS Office 2010 after using MS Office
2007 then all your favourite settings would have to be set-up all over again.

This makes people resistant to change.  Even if their old version is heavily
infected and vulnerable to all sorts of nastiness out there they still prefer
to stick with it because it's probably taken years to tweak it to the way they
like.

By contrast OpenSource programs prefer to be able to "release often" and
upgrade swiftly, partly to help prevent any hope of malware taking root.  So
the settings are separated from the program so that a new install picks up the
old settings (and possibly adds a few new ones if new features have also been
added).

It is difficult to understand at first because it seems contra-intuitive
because we have all (well nearly all) been brought up believing that a new
thing is completely fresh and has nothing lingering over from before.

So, as far as the settings and configurations go uninstalling and reinstalling
does nothing, no change at all!  On the other hand it is easy to get "back to
factory defaults" simply by renaming the User Profile.  Then the program is
suddenly blind and can't see any settigns so it generates a new set.  No need
to uninstall anything.

Revo-uninstaller seems to be brilliant at hunting down everything, in this case
including the settings.  The result is that we don't know if the program was
wonky or if it was the settings that had gone wrong somehow but at least we
know the mystery problem was solved somehow.

Regards from
Tom :)

Good morning,

Thank you everyone for your advice and comments.Your input was most helpful.

I did have the latest version of java installed so that was probably not the
issue.

Since I had had a problem with the 'Most recent .." issue I decided to do a
major reinstall since the problem was almost certainly profile related.  Since
there was nothing magic in my profile, I had nothing to lose by deleting the
whole LO program.  Using Revo Uninstall I did exactly that.  Then I did a full
search of my drives for anything LibreOffice related and removed those bits and
pieces also.

I downloaded 5.2.2 again and installed and voila - all is well.

Thanks again for your help.  My brute force approach does not show much finesse
but it worked for me. In the process I learned much from your input.

Preston

Re: [libreoffice-users] error message libreoffice wont work

2012-04-12 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
1st try clicking on "Cancel" so that the program does NOT try to recover the
file.  Hopefully the file should be fine anyway or you have a recent back-up
somewhere or copy you emailed to someone or something like that.

2nd try hunting around in the folder the file is in to find a similar file-name
but that has had ~lock added into it's name.  You will need to be able to see
hidden files.  In Xp that would have been (from the folder window)

Tools - "Folder Options" - View - "Show hidden files and folders"

3rd try hunting around in your User Profile to find the ~lock file.  I think in
the Back-ups folder.  Again it will not show unless you "show hidden files and
folders"
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile

Just delete the ~lock file and that should clear the problem.

I keep getting this message saying:

This usually happens after I open it and it keeps asking to recover a file

Good morning,

Thank you everyone for your advice and comments.Your input was most helpful.

I did have the latest version of java installed so that was probably not
the issue.

Since I had had a problem with the 'Most recent .." issue I decided to
do a major reinstall since the problem was almost certainly profile
related. Since there was nothing magic in my profile, I had nothing to
lose by deleting the whole LO program. Using Revo Uninstall I did
exactly that. Then I did a full search of my drives for anything
LibreOffice related and removed those bits and pieces also.

I downloaded 5.2.2 again and installed and voila - all is well.

Thanks again for your help. My brute force approach does not show much
finesse but it worked for me. In the process I learned much from your input.

[libreoffice-users] [Base} Compare contents of similar records on two sheets

2012-04-12 Thread Preston Smith

Hello,

I have asked this question previously in the context of two spreadsheets.

I know now that I can migrate my spreadsheets to BASE and with minimal
fuss make it work for me.

I have two sets of records. My Master database and a monthly update
that reflects additions, deletions and changes accumulated by another
party over the past month along with unchanged records from the previous
month.

I need to compare the two sets of information to update my Master file
which is more comprehensive then the monthly update. I do not want to
make these comparisons manually - there are in excess of 2000 records in
each file.

Each record is of the format
Field 1. Master Number (assigned by another agency)
Fields 2-30. Various data formats

If a record, as determined by the Master Number field, exists on both
sheet 1 and sheet 2, I would like to be able to compare the similar
fields, field by field. If the field contents of one record are not
identical to the corresponding field in the similar record in the other
file, I would like to be able to have this record brought to my
attention with anomalies highlighted

If a record, as determined by its Master Number, is in one sheet and not
in the other I would like this anomaly brought to my attention also

Is there a way that this can be done?

Thanks,
Preston

[libreoffice-users] (Win7/LibO-Calc) Bug in tool Multiple operations?

2012-04-12 Thread Pertti Rönnberg

Hello, LibO folks,

In LibO-Calc there is a very interesting and useful tool "Data/Multiple
operations" -- at least as useful as "Pivot Table".

When I recently updated an old calculation process created some 3-4
years ago in OpenO and recreated it in LibO-3.4.5, I noticed that one of
the tool's flexible features had vanished.

In the 'new' Calc the first cells of both "row input cell" E5 (of E5,
F5, G5,..etc.) and "column input cell" D6 (of D6, D7, D8, ..etc.)
require a manually inserted absolute value -- the next values
(increasing or decreasing by a difference) can be formulas calculating
from the value before.

In the "old" calculation these first cells (E5 and D6) could refer to
formulas ina remote cells which increases the flexibility and the
usability of the tool remarkably.

I cannot think that that negative change has been done deliberately in
LibO-Calc -- normally every cell in a spreadsheet can refer to and can
be referred to from remote cells no matter if these cells have a formula
or not.

Is it a bug or what is the explanation? Can I correct this in any way?
   My PC is a Win7Prof/32bit.

Thanks in advance

regards

Pertti Rönnberg

[libreoffice-users] How to edit words and phrases in a pdf

2012-04-12 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Normally when i open a pdf document in LibreOffice each line of text seems to
be contained in it's own text-box which i can then move around or perhaps
delete but i can't seem to edit the words inside the line, eg to correct
typos.

Is it possible to edit pdfs in the same way that we can edit Odts?  Do i need
to add an Extension?

[libreoffice-users] Re: Problems importing an OO database into LO

2012-04-12 Thread Andreas Säger
Try if a manual refresh helps. Use the button in the middle of the navigation
toolbar.
Work-around: Use the ID numbers together with a list box. So the actual
field value is the ID masked by the list box text. In addition you can have
an editable record set.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LOo 3.5.1.2 upgrade in Ubuntu Natty does not 'see' old templates

2012-04-12 Thread Don Myers

Hi Eduardo,

Exactly.

32 Bit Version:
Download LibO_3.5.2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz to the desktop.
Right click on it and extract it to the desktop. This will give you the
folder LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US .

sudo apt-get remove libreoffice*.*
sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/*.deb
sudo dpkg -i
~/Desktop/LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration/libreoffice3.5-debian-menus_3.5-202_all.deb

One thing I should add is that once you have the install done, if you
are using Ubuntu with Unity, you will need to place your launcher
buttons back into the Launcher bar. Simply click on the dash button,
type libre into the search bar, and then drag the applications over
which you want. Or you can open the programs, the launcher will appear
in the launcher bar, and you can right click and select to keep it in
the launcher.

Hi Fabian,

I've been using Ubuntu for 3+ years. A few years ago I had some issues
with the Ubuntu OpenOffice packages. It might not have been their fault
since I had non-repo versions installed when I did an upgrade. To fix that
problem, I did a complete uninstall of the Ubuntu version and installed the
official OpenOffice version. Ever since then I've used only the official
OpenOffice version before LibreOffice came along, and the official
LibreOffice version from http://www.libreoffice.org/. they aren't as
pretty, but functionality has been very good. I've been running 3.5.2 on
Ubuntu 11.10 and also 12.04 Beta 2 without any issues. And the recent
documents function works perfectly fine in the LibreOffice version in
Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 Beta 2. Here is how I do my install: (This is for
the 64 bit version.)

Download LibO_3.5.2_Linux_x86-64_**install-deb_en-US.tar.gz to the
desktop.
Right click on it and extract it to the desktop. This will give you the
folder LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_x86-64_**install-deb_en-US
Run the following terminal commands to install it:
1. sudo apt-get remove libreoffice*.*
2. sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_**
x86-64_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/***.deb
3. sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_**
x86-64_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/**desktop-integration/**
libreoffice3.5-debian-menus_3.**5-202_all.deb

If you need help for the 32 bit version, please let me know.

If the Ubuntu version of LO 3.5.x does not contain this extension,
it is available in the Ubuntu repositories. Use Synaptic or Ubuntu

Re: [libreoffice-users] [BASE] New to Base - Program stops

2012-04-12 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Java 6_21 or 7_3 seem to be the best.  It's best to try the latest version
first and if that doesn't work try the older one.  You can install java AFTER
LibreOffice but then you might have to go to
Tools - Options - Java
to set which version of java LO starts using.  You can have multiple versions
of java installed at the same time but it's best to remove them and get down to
the fewest possible.   Idealy just the latest pre-release version (for your
web-browsers and stuff) and whatever LO needs (hopefully the same latest
version).

The problem with java is that it's cross-platform and easily compromised by a
variety of types of malware.  Lately it has become so bad that the last 3 (7_0,
7_1 and 7_2) versions were allegedly facing active threats out in the wild even
before they got released.  So, Oracle started working on newer versions.  The
6_29 is so bad that even Macs got compromised (according to ZDnet and twitter
reports neither of which i never really believe much tbh).

A few years ago Sun were able to include a copy of java with some vague
confidence that
1.  machines wouldn't get infected so fast as they would these days
2.  Oracle wouldn't try to claw back some cash by taking Sun to court for
whatever stupid excuse they could come up with.
These days neither of those things can be relied on at all.  In effect nowadays
bundling java might even be considered as bundling a trojan in with LO!

The LO devs are heroically writing out java dependence but some still remains.
I have to say that out of 12 machines i keep a fairly close eye on none of them
seem to have had a problem with the 6_29 but it's very possible i wouldn't
notice until users grumble about obvious signs beyond just being slow.

Tom :)

Preston,
I experienced exactly the same when I in early January this year installed
LibreO3.4.5 that at that moment was said to be the latest stable version.
Yesterday I upgraded to LO-3.4.6 because there, according to this mailing list,
seem to be too much problems with LO-3.5.x versions.

Without knowing what-why and without any clear instructions from LibO
documentation, I spent about a week on experimenting and finally managed to get
LibO to work without the Base-module crashing the hole LibO.
My solution was in short:
1 >>    I uninstalled previous LibO-installation (also files from
AppsData/Roaming, ProgramFiles/Users)
2 >>    downloaded and installed from Java's homepage a JRE-file named
"Ixpiinstall.exe"
3 >>    finally I installed LibO  (note! install JRE before LibO)
Voilá - no crashes after that.

There are several versions of JRE and you have to consider whether your system
is a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. I tried (almost?) all I could find and the above
mentioned was the one that worked with my Win7/prof-32bit (I have OpenO3.2 on
my Vista32bit-laptop)
There may today be other JRE versions better suited for your LibO (and my too)
- I do not know. Perhaps the LibO experts can give you that advice.

Would it not be convenient for every new LibO-user if that basic info was said
(or had a link to) clearly on LibO's main home page?
Yes, there is a 'intallation instruction' but I have not found any instructions
about JRE:  needed or not needed, how and when to install and what version is
recommended and where that version can be found - if needed. As a nice short
step-by step instruction.

That to be compared with OpenO that rather clearly says that In OpenO the JRE
is already included.
Best regards
Pertti Rönnberg

Not heard anything recently about my main problem (the fonts issue is a
sideline). Anyone got any ideas?

Re: [libreoffice-users] [BASE] New to Base - Program stops

2012-04-12 Thread Pertti Rönnberg

Preston,
I experienced exactly the same when I in early January this year
installed LibreO3.4.5 that at that moment was said to be the latest
stable version.
Yesterday I upgraded to LO-3.4.6 because there, according to this
mailing list, seem to be too much problems with LO-3.5.x versions.

Without knowing what-why and without any clear instructions from LibO
documentation, I spent about a week on experimenting and finally managed
to get LibO to work without the Base-module crashing the hole LibO.

My solution was in short:
1 >>I uninstalled previous LibO-installation (also files from
AppsData/Roaming, ProgramFiles/Users)
2 >>downloaded and installed from Java's homepage a JRE-file named
"Ixpiinstall.exe"

3 >>finally I installed LibO (note! install JRE before LibO)
Voilá - no crashes after that.

There are several versions of JRE and you have to consider whether your
system is a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. I tried (almost?) all I could find
and the above mentioned was the one that worked with my Win7/prof-32bit
(I have OpenO3.2 on my Vista32bit-laptop)
There may today be other JRE versions better suited for your LibO (and
my too) - I do not know. Perhaps the LibO experts can give you that advice.

Would it not be convenient for every new LibO-user if that basic info
was said (or had a link to) clearly on LibO's main home page?
Yes, there is a 'intallation instruction' but I have not found any
instructions about JRE: needed or not needed, how and when to install
and what version is recommended and where that version can be found - if
needed. As a nice short step-by step instruction.

That to be compared with OpenO that rather clearly says that In OpenO
the JRE is already included.

Best regards
Pertti Rönnberg

Hi,

I am trying to learn Base in LO 3.5.2.2 under Vista with all latest
updates

I start Base - then I follow the steps shown at
http://sheepdogguides.com/fdb/fdb1tableone.htm

The Base wizard starts; I click 'Create a new database' then 'Next'

I say "Yes, please register database for me", "Open for editing" and
"Create tables using the table wizard"then click the "Finish" button.

I get a "Save as" dialogue and select /Data Base Projects/FDB004 Phone
Book/FDB004.odb

And I get the Windows window that says

"LibreOffice 3.5 has stopped working"

I tried this process 3 times and each time I get the same message

Help!!

Thanks,
Preston

I downloaded and opened that file with Libre Ofice 3.3.4 (on Ubuntu
11.10), and the bullets and the numbers are presented correctly.

[libreoffice-users] Re: [Announce] HyperSQL 2.2.8 Released

2012-04-12 Thread Andreas Säger

Am 12.04.2012 01:17, avamk wrote:

Hello,

As a new user, the new HSQL looks very interesting, but I am still a little
confused:

Does this mean if I setup HSQL 2.2.8 per your instructions in the original
post, I will have a database service/server running on my machine that
LibreOffice acts as frontend for? I.e. will my databse become more similar
to a MySQL or PostgreSQL server/client model, and not an embedded file
anymore? Also, is there a way to migrate existing databases created with
"vanilla" LibreOffice Base to this new HSQL?

Thanks!

Hi,
This is how the database connectivity was designed in OpenOffice.org 1
before there was any component called Base and it still works in this
manner. A "Base document" (*.odb) is just a package container for a set
of frontend tools and an _optional_ HyperSQL backend. Base "installs"
(extracts) the backend databaes every time you open such an .odb file
and it repackages the modified database when you close the file. Keeping
the database out of the Base container is far more safe and efficient.
The embedded HSQLDB deserves its merits for educational purposes. It
makes it easy to exchange relational database demos on the internet.

The database can be anything connectable via ODBC or JDBC.

Remove ‘Bottom Borders’

To avoid that behavior:

☐ Apply border [disabled]
