I don't understand that last part...

Are you saying the crash happens when you try to save to .docx format?

If so, the best answer I can give you is, don't do that. The new
Microsoft XML formats (.docx, .xlsx and .pptx) should be avoided in
Libreoffice. We have had nothing but headaches (lots of crashing, files
that won't open and result in a 'General IO error', etc) with those
formats for at least a year.

If it is a Linux "system" package, then I would use the Synaptic Package

The app closes unexpectedly when open 1 or 5 documents. It the same, or when

The documents contain indices, images, headers and footers.

Maybe I have a bad configuration in "Writer"

Re: [libreoffice-users] Can't open the file which is exported from crastal report

2013-09-26 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I've only seen the "i/o error" when the file is not saved on the local machine.
Can you download the file to your "my Documents" folder (or even your desktop)
and then try again from there.

Wrt to the doc vs docX issue, each newer version of Micorsoft Office sometimes
has troubles reading files created by older versions of itself.  Each new
version has a slightly different implementation of the docX (and xlsX, pptX and
so on).  People kinda need to buy the same version used by most other people
they swap files with.  Generally that means everyone has to keep buying newer
and newer versions of MS Office to keep doing the same thing they were doing
years ago. The older formats, without the X at the end, (as used in MS Office
2003 and earlier) tend to be more reliable and usually look the same in any
program.

However i don't think you are suffering from the usual problem people have with
DocX.  I think you just need to save the file locally.

Just out of curiosity are you using Windows or a Gnu&Linux such as Mint or
Ubuntu?
Regards from
Tom :)

I have the free version of Revo Uninstaller installed on all my Windows
machines ; that version has sufficed to uninstall every rogue programme
(which, of course LO is not) I've ever encountered. Moreover it's quite
useful for wiping temp files, etc. But with respect to the OP:s problem,
I'd have thought that Mark Borne's suggestion to right-click the
Control-Panel uninstaller and select «Run as Administrator» should have
done the trick ; I hope that she will report back on her experience

Create an icon. on the desktop or Start menu, to run a command propmpt.
You can then right click on it and select "Run as administrator". You
can even change the properties,so that it always runs as administrator.

If this laptop has a local installation of LibreOffice, you can
uninstall the dictionary on that laptop. You find it in Tools >
Extension Manager. In addition, you can remove the source of the
dictionary from the LO install folder, sub-folder share > extensions.

If the laptop uses a server installation of LibreOffice, then do not
allow the network connection, but put a portable version of LO on the
laptop and remove the dictionary in that portable version as described
above.

If you can trust and control, that the student does not alter the
configuration of LO, you can do this: Goto Tools > Options > Language
Settings > Writing Aids. Uncheck all of Available language modules.

Kind regards
Regina

I have that already. I am running command prompt in admin mode--I set
that up with an icon quite some time ago. But there is one subdir that
still will not delete, usingrmdir "\dirname" /q /swhich will
delete other stubborn directories (and has).

I will have to dig into some of the resources on the site that was
recommended and see if there is anything else useful.

I really dislike Windows! The last version that was somewhat
user-friendly --unitil it crashed-- was 98.

I really dislike Windows! The last version that was somewhat
user-friendly --unitil it crashed-- was 98.

Hi.
A solution I have used when MS won't play is to use a live linux CD.
Boot the CD and use the linux file explorer/manager to fix up your system.

You're absolutely right. I should have thought of that. I don't even
need the live CD--I am dual-booting two

Create an icon. on the desktop or Start menu, to run a command propmpt.
You can then right click on it and select "Run as administrator". You
can even change the properties,so that it always runs as administrator.

I have that already. I am running command prompt in admin mode--I set
that up with an icon quite some time ago. But there is one subdir that
still will not delete, usingrmdir "\dirname" /q /swhich will
delete other stubborn directories (and has).

Sometimes folders can become protected so they can't even be deleted
while running as an administrator. However, administrators *can* take
ownership of any file or folder, then change the permissions and do what
they like with it. Be careful though - deleting critical files could
stop your computer booting, and just taking ownership or permissions
away from the internal "user" account which should have them could cause
problems. The files may be protected for good reason!

From Explorer:
- Right click the affected file or folder and select "Properties"
- Select "Security" tab
- Click "Advanced"
- Select "Owner" tab
- Click "Edit"
- Set the owner to your administrator account
- OK everything
- I'm not certain, but you might have to go back into folder Properties
> Security and add permissions to give your administrator account full
control (you should be able to do this now you have ownership of it)

- You should now be able to delete the folder

From the command line, I'm not sure of the exact commands but it involves:
- takeown (to take ownership of a file or folder)
- cacls (maybe - to set permissions)
- Then you should be able to delete

Mark.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Can't open the file which is exported from crastal report

2013-09-26 Thread peterhuang

Thanks your very much.

the file link as below
http://forum.openoffice.org/zh/forum/download/file.php?id=941

I think it is just a regular doc file, and it is exported from crystal
report.
Our company are looking for a good office software to replace MS-OFFICE
2003,
and our ERP system is using crystal report to output doc file.

My os is windows 7 64 bit (traditional chinese), and libreoffice is version
4.1.1.2.
the openoffice version is 3.1.4

I downloaded this file and saved it to my local document folder.
but the situation is the same. I can open it by openoffice, but it doesn't
work on libreoffice.

thanks.

It appears to be a Rich Text Format (RTF) file.

I can open it by openoffice, but it doesn't work on libreoffice.

What happens if you change its extension from .doc to .rtf and then
try opening it?

I trust this helps.

2013-09-26 Thread peterhuang

I changed the file name to aoou702.tlf.
then I did two tests.

1. I opened this file directly, it still showed “I/O error”.
2. I opened libreoffice first, and I clicked file==> open ==> choose
Filename Extension to tlf ==> open the file.
 It worked.

Thanks very much.

It is seemed a regression problem because this file can be opened in
LibreOffice 3.6.7.2 on the Windows XP platform. Maybe you can file a bug.

Using LinuxMint x64 and LlibreOfficeVersion 4.0.2.2 (Build ID:
400m0(Build:2))

File opens without any problem. However, I cannot read it as I haven't
got the appropriate fonts loaded.

Looks as if it might be a LibreOffice/Windows problem.
