Both the system and the internal have their advantages. I still struggle

[libreoffice-users] autocorrect strikethrough with dashes

2017-05-01 Thread Cor Nouws
Hi,

By accident I discovered that typing dashes in a certain way, causes
strike through.

For exmaple type
this is a -test with two dashes-
Immediately after the second dash the text 'test with two dashes' will
be strikethrough.

This behaviour doesn't change with disabling Tools > AutoCorrect >
AutoCorrect Options > Options .. Replace Dashes.
It does stop when AutoCorrect While Typing is turned of.

Anyone more info?
By the way: I see this in master 5.4, not in 5.3.

Ciao,
Cor

That's rather odd.
I don't download msi packaged for windows that often, but mostly is does
work.
And I know others in the Netherlands doing the same (firms too).
It was reported once or twice on the Dutch users list too, but people
could resolve it by choosing a different mirror.

So that looks as a rather unpleasant situation or coincidence or ..
I just now downloaded 5.2.2.2 from

http://nl.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fris/?type=win-x86_64=5.2=nl
No problem. The installation runs fine.
( I can put it in filetransfer if that helps, but .. ;) )

Indeed. However it looks more as a network/infra problem to me, then a
LibreOffice code issue, don't you think?

So I can't ask you to file a bug about that :p
You mean ask.libreoffice.org ?
Asking on irc if that is know.

Well, the import thing is what you do right now: report issues. And
apart from that, many people help in testing too, and of course coding,
site management.
If you're a really large spot, you may consider getting professional
support for fixing bug too. There are various opportunities for that in
the wider community.

> Imho, it would be a shame if this doesn't change. There's a lot of

There is a lot of attention for QA, automated tests, finding regressions.
If you're interested to read, look at e.g. minutes of the Engineering
Steering Committee:
https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/2016-October/009812.html
And good suggestions (detailed reports with enough infor to fix, ..) are
always welcome, but be aware that in opensource it now and then happens
that one is suggested to work on your own ideas ;)

Thanks for the clear description.
I tried it in a recent daily build (*) on Ubuntu and imported a jpg

That did not show the same error as you report..

I think when you download a gallery extension for LibreOffice (or
OpenOffice) and look how that is set up, and combine it with this knowledge:

> I see for each global Gallery in LibreOffice an assocated folder

should do the trick for a large part?
Extensions can be installed global (admin rights) or added to the
installation (unzipped in ../libreoffice/share/extensions/)

Indeed. Maybe I do not have the same opinion as Andreas always, but his
technical contributions are useful and IMO much appreciated.

I fully understand your concern on development, and partly share it.
I seriously don't think you can uphold the opinion that all major and so
much needed improvements are 'feature creep'.
Italo is simply correct when he refers to AOO as a dead and buggy code
project. The technical debt that LibreOffice started to fight in 2010
was one of maybe already a decade or more old. New features in
OpenOffice.org in the last years were even implemented in Java
extensions, so that the core code could be avoided..
But doing that work is a pain and needs many hands.

The good thing is that there is now a wonderful amount of people helping
on the code. Still more welcome, but we may feel happy with where we are.
The sad thing is that on the QA side less people contribute and things
can be further improved. This affects potentially all users, of whom
many could be valid contributors :)

Thus it is not without reason that LibreOffice has two branches. And
depending on your work, skills, time etc. there is a wide range to chose
from the last updates in the still branch, to early in the Fresh line
and even daily builds. The latter are great for most of the work, but of
course not for professional deployments.
And there are supported LTS versions - see below.

> Fortunately, there are still people like Andreas to call the code
> contributors out on those decisions.

And he is not alone in that.
But note that the ESC and the board are working (after all that already
has been done) on more ideas to further improve:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/RegressionIdeas

Mind that not changing and improving compared where we are and were five
years ago, is no option.

> At present, long term support (bug fixes, security updates) for older

To my knowledge bot Collabora and CIB offer versions with much longer
support. Quite affordable and really valuable for organizations.

[libreoffice-users] adding actionHandler to a listControl

Hi all,

Usually I link a macro to the event item status changed of a
listControl via the UI. Now I want to do it at runtime, since the
control itself is created at runtime.

The following code does not result in a noticeable effect when the
selection in the list is changed. What am I missing?

 = = = =
Public oLanguageListener

Sub TstLstnr
  CreateLstLanguage_Listener
  oControl = oDlg.getControl(lstTaal)
  oControl.addActionListener(oLanguageListener)
End Sub

Sub CreateLstLanguage_Listener
  sListenerName = com.sun.star.lang.XActionListener
  oLanguageListener = CreateUnoListener(LstLanguage_, sListenerName)
End Sub

Sub LstLanguage_disposing (oEvent)
End Sub

Sub LstLanguage_actionPerformed (oEvent As com.sun.star.awt.ActionEvent)
msgbox actionPerformed
End Sub

Sub LstLanguage_itemStateChanged (oEvent As com.sun.star.awt.ItemEvent)
msgbox itemStateChanged
End Sub

Sub LstLanguage_focusGained (oEvent As com.sun.star.awt.FocusEvent)
'com.sun.star.lang.EventObject
msgbox focusGained
End Sub

(same for events focusLost, keyPressed, keyReleased, mouseEntered,
mouseMoved, mouseMovedKeyPressed, mousePressed, mouseReleased, mouseExited)

thanks a lot!

Yes. I filed an issue for it some time ago

The widening is triggered by having a string in the file name box that

2014-10-01 Thread Cor Nouws
Tom Davies wrote on 01-10-14 15:36:

All he was saying was there was at least 1 example of a bug that was
 introduced in Fresh

How many more would you like to know :)
It's always been that new versions come with new bugs.
That's the big advantage (?) of open source: it keeps you sharp/awake,
since you know the bugs you are used to, may disappear and new - but
which - come in their place :)

Now the situation with LibreOffice is that there is only one way ahead
out of the old mess: cleaning up, modernising and the whole shit more.
Thus what the devs are working on.
And yes, that brings more new bugs, for removing old bugs and working
our way to the future.

It encourages me that so many people file bugs. Many of them duplicates
(i.e. already known in BugZilla), many basically user problems (people
would have been better of asking here first) and also many that I would
consider as tiny bugs, little UI improvements and so forth. Oh yes: and
the nasty ones :\
I'm also glad to see there's many people helping in QA with clarifying
the bugs etc usw. Great. And we can really handle more of those people ;)

Now of course it's nasty that Taanstafls bug isn't yet fixed. Maybe
peoples comments become a bit unfriendly when having to explain again
and again how solving issues works. And how not.
And of course Taanstafl would love to see the bug fixed and gets annoyed
too.
Both are of little help, I expect.
There are bugs that annoy me too. And some I could even help by finding
that extra hour (or two) extra to do some little testing, scripting,
digging.. Only that extra extra...

Being friendly, helping wherever you can, and asking attention in a
positive way for an issue (clear test case or bibisecting works better
then complaining).. Ah well.

Sorry I can't help any further here at the moment.

Maybe we should rename Still to Eggs and change Fresh to Omelette.
Both have advantages. trying to say that Omelette is really unbroken
 eggs seems daft to me.

You know I am in favour of keeping all our great ideas for new names
with us for the next period and focus on better explanation (website).
But I do like this one :) Thanks,

Cor

 Hello everybody!

First of all, I would like to thank very warmly everyone involved

Thanks a lot and it's nice to see the Académie using LibreOffice :)

We are trying to setup a mail merge in my institution, based on
LibreOffice, of course. And I would like to suggest 2 improvements:

 1) Put more filter criterias in the Standard Filter window. We use 3
for a basic search. Yes, our database is complex. Doubling it to 6
would be good, using an dynamically extensible list of criterias
(similar of what iTunes provide when creating a new smart playlist)
would be great! Is there a simple hack to do it or do I need to fill
 a bug/feature report?

 2) Also in the Standard Filter window, we got a logical problem. We
wanted to filter criterias A AND (B OR C) but there is no way to do
it. If you try to put 3 criterias 1 AND 2 OR 3 you will obtain the
logic (1 AND 2) OR 3. Tried also the inverse without better luck: 1
OR 2 AND 3 is also resolved as 1 OR (2 AND 3). As our or is on
looking text in the same field, I also tried to put in a single
criteria as text like 'this|that' but the Standard filter doesn't
seem to use the | operator. Any help on how I could do this logic?

I'm new here, please advice me if this kind of problem is better in a
feature request than in the mailing list.

It's more a feature request, yes

For the moment, the only workaround I see to my problem is making new
views in my database anticipating the filters. I would like to avoid
it and use Libreoffice to filter on the fly, as the number of cases
we face is potentially big/not previsible.

It's not a workaround and it's how it is designed. So you're doing right
regarding how LibreOffice handles mail merged. So the best is to request
an enhancement on our bug database. If you need help doing so, you can
also come to our French speaking QA list at q...@fr.libreoffice.org.

 Kind regards
 Sophie

I need to make frequent changes to the Page Format on the three Sheets that
 I print from.
I cannot predetermine every change, so a change in the margins is the
simplest way out, or it would be if it remains with that sheet only.

I would suggest to add more page-styles (right-click on the name in the
window Style and Formatting and choose New), and apply a different style
to each sheet (double click on the name with the desired sheet active).

BTW. Re. CT2N. Using Libre version 3, I was not able to add your suggestion
for the £ prefix as the Macro was in the Libre Macros. In version 4, the
macro is in My Macros, so I was able to alter it.
 It works great.
 Many thanks.

Thanks for the compliments and happy to read that it helps. (there's a
list of wishes to implement in CT2N that I'm not able to work on for
some time already - alas).

the characters \x09, not the [tab] character.

But maybe that's only me, I am not the OP, so feel free to ignore this.

Weirdly that's true: if you search for $ on its own, you can replace the
paragraph breaks with something else. The problem is then only that
\t in the Replace with box is interpreted as text instead of a
regular expression. (Surely that's wrong?) But you've found the
solution. (I spotted this part but didn't latch on to its significance.)

AH yes, that was the only thing that I did not write in my original
post. Sorry for that.

With Regular expressions ticked, first search for $ and replace with a
character or string that does not occur in your document - perhaps a
hash mark? Then repeat the search (still with Regular expressions
ticked), this time searching for # and replacing with \t.

Of course I used this workaround.
But I wondered if I did something wrong, or missed some special trick to
replace $ with a tab in one run.

Sorry for previous distraction. I trust this helps.

No problem of course. Thanks to you all for the replies.

I think this is worth a bug report/request for enhancement.

[libreoffice-users] using \t in regular expression replace

2012-10-06 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi all,

I was trying to use \t to replace e.g a paragraph ending with a tab.
So find $ replace with \t

That does not work.
Nor in combination with ^ or \n (one has to try something ;-) )

I can replace e.a. an character with a tab though.

This is the same in 3.3.4, 3.4.6, 3.5.7, 3.6.2.2

(Testing on Ubuntu/Linux).

So prolly I try something that can't be done (not directly anyway) or
something that should be done in a different way?

There isn't.
Usual solution for this is running few instances at the same time and
use a service to check the memory load, directing the task, and
killing/restarting a process when needed.
(People doing this with LibreOffice tell me that running as a server -

I prefer OpenOffice because, although it lacks some features available
in LibreOffice which I don't use that often, it is much stabler and thus
more of use in a production environment. Of course this is my personal
impression, things can be different for someone else.

There are many bugs from OpenOffice code removed from the LibreOffice code.
People running Libreoffice as a server application, that ran OpenOffice
before, are extremely clear in their experience: it's much and much stabler.
And the biggest bug from OpenOffice code is being worked on too at
LibreOffice: cleaning up the whole thing, make it ready for future.
This gives regressions, temporarily. Alas. But the other improvements
outweigh that, by far.

Ah well, you will find out yourself the next months, years maybe ;-)

Re: [libreoffice-users] (Win7/LibO-Calc) Bug in tool Multiple operations?

operations -- at least as useful as Pivot Table.

When I recently updated an old calculation process created some 3-4
years ago in OpenO and recreated it in LibO-3.4.5, I noticed that one of
the tool's flexible features had vanished.

In the 'new' Calc the first cells of both row input cell E5 (of E5,
F5, G5,..etc.) and column input cell D6 (of D6, D7, D8, ..etc.)
require a manually inserted absolute value -- the next values
(increasing or decreasing by a difference) can be formulas calculating
from the value before.
[...]
Is it a bug or what is the explanation? Can I correct this in any way?
My PC is a Win7Prof/32bit.

Thanks for writing. I never used the function, but from what I read from

The paper tray drop down does not include the bypass tray
Also if you go to Device to select the paper in the options
there are only 13 paper types listed. This printer has 21 types
( which show up in other applications )

Is that what you meant ?

Yes, thanks. (it could have been that you referred to information on the
page style, although that is not so logic.)

I guess LibreOffice gets its information via the printer driver. And for
me that's a terra incognita.
Could it be that the bypass is automatically selected once you open it,
or fill it?
I think that the paper types are not relevant here. That are sort of
definitions, referring in the end simply to the existing trays.

Lot depends on where the documents origin.
If you have influence on the initial state (ie.e. they are from
LibreOffice), you can try with e.g. some of the list styles.
In my experience maybe the representation is not always exactly the
same, but at least well enough to be effective and distinctive.
And if the file finally passes you or someone else with LibreOffice,
re-applying the desired list style might be simple and fast.

word as part of paragraph formatting in the same way as it does in LO.

As Brian already explained: it does exist in Word.
But the difference between certain parts of the document may be caused
by the fact that it's an old document and that somewhere the last years
(2 to 4 ...) changes have been made to paragraph indentation and such,
in a necessary rework for lists and numbering (ODF specs).
So where the information represents the same on your screen, it may have
different attributes, causing different export.

Hmm. this does not really help, I guess, only explain ;-)

people write in to grumble about regressions or new problems with the
3.5.x branch.

So then compare the current situation with the time the 3.4.0 or 3.4.1
was released. And also consider that people in the 3.4 branch have
accepted certain regressions or found a work around. And of course the
bugs that are in 3.4.x and not in 3.5...
I did and do not write that 3.5.2 is always better. But IMO there's a
good change. Business should just always check before deploying (or -

For anyone interested, I made a set of tabular templates, both A4 and

There is a nice advantage for the regular labels: the option to
