## Software Information:
- **Firmware Version:**    A12
- **OS Name:** *Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS*
- **OS Build:**    (null)
- **OS Type:** 64-bit
- **GNOME Version:**   46
- **Windowing System:**    X11
- **Kernel Version:**  Linux 6.8.0-48-generic

*Document Scanner 46.0
*

*Brother DCP-7065DN
*

I must click on "*Gear*" icon of *Document Scanner* and select "All
pages from feeder" to scan multiple pages.

I also use "*gscan2pdf*" which may help you.

Simple Scan is basically a frontend for SANE - which is the same
backend as XSANE uses. This means that all existing scanners will work
and the interface is well tested.
I'm assuming that you had no problems installing Brother Software. My
installation was not the easiest but your problem was not one I had.

Hope this helps

I use Xubuntu 2404 and simple-scan as well. It doesn't do a lot, but
it can scan single or multiple pages quite well. Few settings, and you
need to use different paper settings for platen vs feeder scans, but
it's easier than xsane or any other scanning software I've used.

Hello,
I just subscribed to this forum tonight so I could ask this question.
I am a long-time user of Linux Mint and LibreOffice. I have low vision, so
I use a large default font size and have my default screen magnification
set to 150%. Recently, I did a clean upgrade to Linux Mint 21.3. I was
easily able to adjust the scrollbar width on my browsers, but the
scrollbars in LibreOffice are so narrow that I can barely see them.
Increasing the screen magnification unfortunately doesn't change the width
of the scrollbars. I spent most of the day today working in LibreOffice
Calc, and I must have missed both the vertical and the horizontal
scrollbars hundreds of times. Very frustrating! I have spent the evening
researching fixes for this, but the suggestions I found were all several
years old, and none of them seem to be working on Mint 21.3. Can you
suggest a way to make the scrollbars wider globally across LibreOffice?

Re: [libreoffice-users] LOBase reports fail

2024-06-24 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky
I don't use rpm's but assume that command paths are unique and similar
in executing commands.

Search for "soffice". You should find 2 paths and, therefor, 2 files
named "soffice"

Run each "soffice" as program or executable.

Click on menus to see which version.

Hope this helps till a better answer comes along.

street address for personal or business addresses.

The Field Assignments do have a single "Street" to allocate

This suggests what happens next.

When importing address information from Evolution Email Client Address

I don't think so.

I've just been playing again with the problem. First up, I deleted
~/.config/libreoffice/ to try to get a clean(er) start. (Not that this
seems to have affected anything.)

There's a file JUNK.odt in my home directory, and which behaviour I
get actually seems to vary randomly. I've tried even opening this
document just the once and doing repeated 'Save As' + Cancel, and the
behaviour occasionally changes from one to the other, sticking there
for a while before switching back. Sometimes the 'Name' box in the
dialogue says "JUNK.odt" [with the odt selected) and sometimes just
"JUNK" [selected].

Checking on my laptop, which seems to be running an older version
6.something (I think it's runnjing the previous Mint version), the
same sort of behaviour is observable.

This is seriously weird, and very confusing for my wife, who regularly
needs to send out .docx files to her contacts; in the mode where
"JUNK.odt" is the style, she has to manually change the odt to docx,
which should not be necessary.

Up till now I have been making a hand sketch of the area of interest,
scan the sketched layout, create a PDF and then type/enter dimensions

method.

I look forward to receiving suggestions/comments from the LO Draw

That works fine..

I added conditional formatting that compares the data
between two groups to hightlight lines that are added or
deleted between to sets of data. That also works fine at
that point.

Problem is: If I open the spreadsheet again, it reimports
the data and in process wipes out all reference to the

between groups. Tried setting range to A1:AV600, but
again, it seems importing information wipes out the
conditional formatting.

I can manually go in and change the ranges back to
A1:AV600 and that restores the formatting..

Tried recording a macro for that, but result is nothing
was recorded.
Also, trying to record the importing manually does seem
to work either.

Tried to create a Range name thinking that might keep it,
but conditional formatting does except range names or
absolute addresses??

Perhaps it can't be done.

But process is much better than original manually getting
two sets of data to line up with manuall inserting cells.
Has about 46 records that are add/delete between data

Re: [libreoffice-users] missing printer formats

What operating system does a "Curtains 10" use?

Then see Epson Search Result for XP-630 current drivers at:

Hope this helps.

On this new machine, I have LO 7.1.7.2 (x64).

As you can tell, my needs are relatively elemental, as LO4 served me
well all those years. The number of regressions reported on this site
damps down any possible lust for unnecessary upgrades.

Now that I have been forced upwards, I have hit a brick wall, and this
is one of several reasons why I am reluctant to install "upgrades" as
they are offered.

I have the same two printers that I have used for years: a Brother
HL-6180-DW, and an Epson XP-630. The Brother continues to work,
offering me some 20+ paper formats in its dialogue.

The Epson, however, which I need for colour printing, shows only 5
paper choices: 2 sheet sizes, 2 index cards, and a "Japanese Postcard"
at 3.93 x 5.83 inches. That last is interesting, and I have no idea
where it came from (or why), but I can ignore it.

I am obviously missing many formats, some useful, some not, but in
particular there are no envelopes offered. My immediate need is for
the American #10 envelope.

I have several hundreds of files on hand, all formatted for the #10
envelope, but there is no obvious way to select that format for the
XP-630.

LO will graciously allow me to print in B/W on the Brother, but not in
the required colour on the Epson.

I have spent most of the afternoon plowing through the 7.1 manual, the
"help", and various on-line sources, without even finding out how I
might generate the #10 anew as a "custom" format. That would be an
absurdly redundant effort since this format is well-known, but it also
indicates my inability to set up any truly custom format for this
machine.

I am also ignorant enough so as to not know whether these formatting
instructions are supposedly read off the hardware by the Curtains 10
system, or by LO, or are inherent in LO, or are programmed from an
external Epson source, &c.

The answer to my problem ought to be simple enough, but since I can't
figure it out, any help/tips would be appreciated.

I made a presentation with impress, used Metropolis theme.

I then exported it as PDF.

The problem is, some, when opening on such things as iphones, get the
text cut off, like the top part of the text is not showing, etc.

Others, until they turn the phone sideways, it doesn't display the text
correctly.

How do I make sure the text looks correct for all, or at least most,
users on different devices?

Note an expert, but something you might try.
Open file, and go to File/Properties/Fonts
There are two check boxes for embedding fonts.
Don't know if either or both would make a difference.
Might be some font that you used isn't included on these
devices and they are using a different font that throws
everything off?
Not sure why this isn't listed under the PDF options as a
choice?
Had a spreadsheet I exported that had this issue with
some fonts, and believe this fixed it? But it was long ago..
Worth a try. Worst thing, it makes no difference. File will
be bigger since fonts will be included.

1. Separately open a window of the folder showing the document you are
opening. Make a backup copy from Windows. Once your document is
open, a temporary file should be created in that folder. When
closing the document, the temporary document should disappear. If
the temporary document does not go away, delete it.
2. Run Windows 10 Task Manager and look for any surviving LibreOffice

   to remove drive.

If either of these work for you, see "How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice

In browser, type URL "localhost:631"

Click on "Administration" Tab. Click on "Manage Printers" button.

Click on the printers name you want.

Click on "Administration" menu button and select "Set Default Options".

At "Media Size" either select size you are looking for or define
"Custom" size.

Select "Custom" to print.

It may not be perfect because you may have to do a specialized select
whenever you want to print this size, but usually does work.

Note: Printer min/max sizes may not be available to do what you want as
defined by manufacturer.

The printer works fine but one thing is driving me crazy. I need to
print to a 244mm x  149mm envelope sometimes. This should load through
the rear paper slot which is provided for this purpose. However I
can't tell Writer to use this size. The envelope is defined as that
size but I can only select one of a list of paper sizes for that
printer in the Print dialogue.

I have the same problem when I try to load the envelope into a paper
tray. I can tell the printer what size it is but that still doesn't
show up in Writer when I try to print.

To make things weird, a number of the paper sizes are given as "User
Defined: 9.999in x 9.999in" but I have no idea how they got there -
although some seem to be standard sizes (photos, envelopes, etc.).

Through trial and error (one or more errors per trial), I've come
close to getting an envelope to print reasonably without spraying ink
outside the paper range. However, the envelope document only vaguely
resembles what is printed. And I have to go through this again if I
try to print to a different paper size.

Is there a way I can tell Writer to use the paper size of the document
so that it actually prints the way I set it up?

You can also do it through Zoom and include your own picture in a

I've set my intended column widths in it, enabled line wrapping, then I saved
it.

Then I ran:
soffice -n template.ods --infilter=CSV:44,34,UTF8 myfile.csv

Unfortunately what actually happens is that LibreOffice opens two files:
- a new file based on my template, which contains no data
- my csv file, without applying my template to it

Re: [libreoffice-users] Open .csv by specifying column widths on command line

2020-04-08 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

There may be another answer.

I import semi-colon (;) separated data into Writer, recorded Macro
filters and tied them together. In my case, I made a Menu which reformat
the data fields.

See the example below from URL:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/150565/execute-macro-in-calc-from-terminal/

Also, this simple Sub:

|SubFindSheet(aNumber)MsgBox"Here is the number "&aNumber EndSub|

run from terminal as:

|libreoffice6.0"macro:///Standard.Module1.FindSheet(4)"|

or on some systems:

|soffice "macro:///Standard.Module1.FindSheet(4)"|

displays the proper variable and message in a message box.

Another note, when executing the macro from terminal and all of LO is
closed, you will briefly see the LO splash screen displayed.

Thanks Brian for your reply, unfortunately that does not help me.

What I'm looking for is a way to work with csv files with minimum hassle.
I do not need features such as column widths, other formatting etc. to be saved
in the file(s).
I just need to specify the way LO displays csv files when they are opened (as
command line arguments so I can automate that).

Your proposed workaround would require manual adjustments, on a file by file
basis, and each time they are opened.
These manual steps are what I'm looking to avoid. Else I could just resize the
columns and enable wrapping every time and be done with this.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem with print dialogue

2020-04-08 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

This may work.

  Wayland solution

Since Ubuntu 18.04, Wayland

is the default display protocol.

To enable scaling:

 *

Enable fractional Scaling experimental-feature:

|gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features
"['scale-monitor-framebuffer']" |
 *

Restart the computer.

  * Open /Settings/ -> /Devices/ -> /Displays/
  * Now you should see 25 % step scales, like 125 %, 150 %, 175 %.
Click on one of them and see if it works.

Quote from:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029436/enable-fractional-scaling-for-ubuntu-18-04

I do not know if it has reduction settings.

It may be possible to set a separate workspace using the above, but I'm
no expert.

Anybody else?

As Drew has said, you can use your existing flat file in several ways :

1) Go via the empty ODB file method to drag the linked XLSX sheet from
your first ODB file to the second, empty ODB file and then follow the
import wizard.

2) Create an empty ODB file and keep it open. Open your XLSX sheet
directly in LO Calc. Select all of the data including column headers,
that you want to import.
Drag and drop this selected data onto your open ODB.
Use the import wizard options to configure the way you want the data to
be imported into a new table that will be created as a result of the
drag and drop maneuver.

Be aware that the import wizard isn't perfect, depending on the version
of LO you are using, it might cause you a bit of grief, so double-check
afterwards that it has done what you wanted (within the confines of what
it can actually do, of course). You might find that some post-import
database alteration statements might be necessary.

Always look at the resulting table to see if it's fields are defined
correctly and display correctly when looking at table data.

Make sure columns are defined with proper data type such as date or time
in your spreadsheet.

Until the resulting table is as close to your intended field type, keep
making a new table.

Understanding through re-iteration will help you see the pitfalls.

If you can't get the import to the correct data type, import in such a
way as to have complete data from spreadsheet field.

At this point, from within Base, you may be able to make a new table
that has a correct data type and copy from Table-0 to Table-1.

Hope this helps

Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer will not print envelopes

Long shot.

1. There is a possibility that printer dimension don't actually match
the definition of envelope. This might causing 1 page print on 2
page envelope. This might result in 1st page blank and 2nd page with
address do to width incorrectly defined. Does "Print Preview" show 1

2. Go to , "Options" tab to try "Use only paper size from
   printer preference".
3. Check "Properties" for your Brother printer and see if there is an
option for "Other Pages" and that it is set correctly.

By the way, I noticed you did not mention what operating system you are

Re: [libreoffice-users] RE: Using Libre Writer - with hardware questions

2020-01-27 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky
This sounds more like a hardware problem then a LibreOffice/software
problem.

Some manufacturers have built in hardware diagnostics, run them if
available.

If you have the ability to add a external monitor to the laptop.

Although it varies from *laptop* to *laptop*, some can turn on the
*external monitor* by hitting the *Function Key* (*Fn*) plus the F5
*key*. On the *Toshiba*, continually hitting *Fn*-F5 , skips between
the various *monitor* options including *screen* duplication and
*screen* extension.

https://www.google.com/search?ei=cAQvXub9LKqd_Qb5nKbwBg&q=toshiba+laptop+external+monitor+function+key&oq=toshiba+laptop+second+monitor+key&gs_l=psy-ab.3.0.0i22i30.427589.447202..449066...5.2..0.189.2795.35j3..01..gws-wiz...0i71j0i273j0i131i273j0j0i131j0i67j0i131i67j0i22i10i30j33i22i29i30j33i160j0i13.VDP2nfMeXEU

This information can be confirmed from your laptop owners manual.

If you have the ability to create a Linux OS disk like Ubuntu, boot it
and see the screen problem goes away. This may help to confirm a Windows
driver problem.

https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/try-ubuntu-before-you-install#0

It also will allow you to do a memory check.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/591488/how-do-i-run-memtest86

Go to a different computer and look for search engine listings of your
laptop model having similar problems.  Youtube videos can tell you a lot
about what may be happening.

Google "YouTube Toshiba vertical banding"

Hope this helps.

the top outlet (not the bottom one even though the last testing showed
   the outlet (top/bottom)were both fine.

I then brought the laptop to work and got the same results when trying to
run it.

Someone said I might have to delete all my video drivers and r-install them.

I have no idea where to find those drivers on my laptop, nor which ones to
delete nor where I would find the correct replacement video drivers nor if
that's even a correct solution.

I've got 3 GB Ram running.

It's a nice 17" screen so I don't want to toss the laptop and it ran for 3+
hours at a friend's work space - with 4 programs open at the same time -
Publisher, GIMP, the Brave browser running a YouTube video and another

They are logo and a high def images that do not work well to break up

2. Transparency

Consider breaking the image up, where the resulting pieces won't overlay
your text. That is, instead of leaving a border image with text
appearing
inside it, place the border as multiple images, so that no text can
"fall
behind" because the images never overlay.  This will require
exporting the
image and cutting it, or placing the image multiple times and
cropping it.

If you go the route of cropping the image within LO Write/MS Word, the
resulting document gets large and lags performance.

[libreoffice-users] Base Firebird reserved words

2019-05-22 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

I have recently been battling with the change to Firebird.

When using query, I would continuously get some form of
'isc_dsql_prepare' errors.

As it turns out, I repeatedly used "Select" as a field name within "Tables".

Changing the field names from "Select" to "Selection" has eliminated all
of the 'isc_dsql_prepare' errors.

I checked the reserved words for Firebird 2.5 and 3.0.  "Select" is a
reserved keyword in 2.5.

My suspicion is that there is some kind of misinterpretation during the
analysis of field name vs keyword when opening and/or using a query.

Can someone confirm that Firebird keywords should never be used as field
names.

Thanks

Paul

fields should be added to. Mark also "First row will show fieldnames"
(don't know how it is called in English).

Up to this point everything works.

Table name is set correctly and Append Data is checked (circle filled
with blue)

"Use first line as column names" is already check marked and cannot be
changed.

Click on "Next" and then message shows "No corresponding column type
could be found for column 'ID'."

Cannot continue past this message.

Then goto next and mark all
fields of your importtable except "ID", if this content created new and
shouldn't be moved to the targettable. Switch with the arrow-buttons on
the right the field of the targettable, which should be filled by the
content of your importtable. The field ID of the targettable could be at
the same position as the field of the importtable, because you have
deselected the field ID from the importtable.

Hope this will work for you.

Regards

Robert

[libreoffice-users] No corresponding column type could be found for column 'ID'.

2019-05-16 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

Windows 7 64 bit, Version: 6.2.3.2 (x64)

I have two databases.

Both have "ID" defined as the first field in the databases.

The first database is an import of text files that is unregistered. I
believe it is Firebird, but do not know how to confirm this. The header
to the text file has "ID" in the first line, first position and all its
fields are blank.

Example:

ID;Model;Tube;Position;Date;Time;Ions;Select;Series;Settings
;1-1612-0023-192;1-1617-0009-1759;1.1;2019-05-14;3:32:00 PM; 503075;0;135;100

"ID" field was defined as "Text [ VARCHAR ]" automatically at Import and
does not define "ID" as a key field.

The second database is firebird registered.

"ID" is defined as "Integer [ INTEGER ]".

When I want to append a Table from database one to database two, I get
the message "No corresponding column type could be found for column 'ID'."

It does not let me skip this warning and move to the next screen where I
would usually uncheck the field and allow automatic key to be filled in
second database.

Any suggestions welcome.

Paul

Click it or Ctl+F9 to deactivate.

Hope this helps.

This is new as of LO 6.2.1 and 6.2.2, and kind of defeats utterly the
ability to use this field for page numbering.

I tried deleting it and re-inserting, both with Insert -> Page Number
and Insert -> Field -> Page Number. Same result.

I have attached a brand new .ods document with the same problem - all
I did was insert the page number in a fresh header. See also the

For S&G, I reinstalled LO 6.1.5, but it does the same thing with the
older files, and also with a brand new file.

I'm running this on Xubuntu 18.04.2 in a VB VM (here at work - I'll

I am using "Version: 6.1.5.2 (x64)". Supposedly, you can force font
substitution. I have not tried it.

Choose *Tools - Options'* /- LibreOffice - Fonts'   From:

You must click in the box next to "Apply replacement table" before you
can select the substitute fonts.

Hope this helps.

Greetings All.
I would like to add a few words to the text embedded in a pdf file.
When the file is opened in Draw the text is displayed, and subsequently saved,
in a different font from the that in the original file.
This unfortunately changes the line length and hence the page layout, which
makes the amended copy unusable.
How can I prevent this?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Impress window position

2019-03-14 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

In Impress under "Slide Show Settings" you should find

Multiple Displays

By default the primary display is used for slide show mode. If the
current desktop is displayed on more than one display, you can select
which display to use for full screen slide show mode. If the current
desktop spans only one display, or if the multi display feature is not
supported on the current system, you cannot select another display.

  Presentation display

Select a display to use for full screen slide show mode.

If the system allows the user to span a window over all available
displays, you can also select "All displays". In this case the
presentation is spanned over all available displays.

From:
https://help.libreoffice.org/Impress/Slide_Show_Settings#Multiple_Displays

Try this.

Hope it helps.

It was solved by checking that the user interface language (Tools ->

As an aside this problem doesn't arise under Linux as both the user
interface and the help are installed separately and will automatically have
the same language. This is not the case with the Windows version and hence
someone not in the know can install LibreOffice in say the UK and
automatically have the user interface set to UK English. If then the help
file for say US English is installed it will not be available.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base/Firebird Queries broken

2019-01-16 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

When editing the query, it works using RunQuery (F5)

After editing and it is working, I save the Query.

Then clicking on the saved Query from main Query window results in error
again.

Hello Drew

I assumed that you are answering the question on error 104.

I changed the file as per your instructions to

db:parameter-name-substitution="true"

, but error 104 is still there.

Do I have to go back to my original file a migrate again with this fix
or am I fixing

SELECT rdb$get_context('SYSTEM','ENGINE_VERSION')... -- ENGINE_VERSION
Thanks

Howdy,

Yes, I have a suggestion - there is a property in the Base file which is
incorrectly set during the Migration Assistant run and must be fixed. The
error message looks like this is what is biting you.

The fastest way to fix it is at follows:
Close the base file and exit LibreOffice.
Rename the base file from .odb to .zip
Now open the file with your favorite zip tool.
You fill find a file named content.xml in the root of the file.
Open that with a text editor.
Search for this string: db:parameter-name-substitution="false"
Edit that so that it reads db:parameter-name-substitution="true"
Save your changes.
Close the zip file, it should ask if you want to update the file with the
change and answer yes.
Change file name back to .odb and you should be good to go.

Best wishes,

Drew

2019-01-15 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

I have replaced blanks with underscores in field names in tables.

I have removed alias named fields from queries.

It did not appear to make a difference.

I should note that tables Amps, Volts-High and  Volts-In have the same
or more field names.

As each table name is prefixed to a field, I would not think this a
possible error. Am I correct in this assumption?

That would probably need checking by removing them one-by-one until you

As Robert has mentioned, perhaps the migration didn't convert the data

Good luck !

Not sure what you mean. These queries are developed to be linked to a

quantity of readings per unit at two each. Incorrect quantities of

[libreoffice-users] Base/Firebird Queries broken

2019-01-14 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky
I have shifted one of my database to Firebird using the advanced
'migration' tool as a test.

One query I am testing is a join of 4 tables.

Series
Series
Series
Series

Date
DateDate

Time
TimeTime

Criterion: Series 134, Select True

I do have Alias fields, but understand from net search that they are
disregarded by Firebird.

I have waited 5 minutes for the query to process, but it only results in
a blank screen or not responding.

Windows 7 64 bit. LibreOffice Version: 6.1.3.2 (x64)

The query did work with HSQLDB.

Any hint as to where I'm going wrong.

Thanks

Re: [libreoffice-users] vertical placement of charts while saving to pdf is wrong

2018-10-23 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

This is a shot in the dark.

Look for lines defined as narrower in height and resize them.

It would not be surprising that PDF's produced by OSX have some portion
of the Print PDF definition that recognizes control codes in one way is
not under Windows/Linux PDF Printer definition for LibreOffice.  It may
also be that substituting fonts may change behavior.

I suggest using installing cups-pdf under linux to see if this resolves
the difference.  Apple controls cups-pdf and might be a work around.

I may be wrong here, but I think LibreOffice uses Ghostscript and OSX
uses CUPS.

https://www.ghostscript.com/
https://github.com/apple/cups

If anybody knows, please reply to correct the above statements.

Hope this helps

It is similar on Windows and Linux but different on OSX. I would like
to say that it is probably not related to PDF because the print
preview shows the same issue.

Re: [libreoffice-users] After upgrading to libreoffice 6.0.6, unable to save files to samba shares

2018-08-10 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky
You might try creating a odt on C drive.  Copy to your server and then
see if it opens.
Also, in Windows, check the permissions comparing LibreOffice 5 to 6
created documents.
I assume that since 5 worked on the server, the linux permissions are
correct.

Hope this helps

Good afternoon,

I have run into an interesting issue with a small network I maintain.

Server is CentOS with Samba services (up to date with patches and
updates).

When using Libreoffice 5.x, I am able to open, create, edit and save
files on the network without any issues.

After upgrading Libreoffice to 6.0.6, anytime I go to edit an existing
file on the network, I get:

The lock file could not be created for exclusive access by LibreOffice
due to missing permission to create the lock file on that file
location or lack of free disk space.

Neither of the above conditions exist.  If I continue and open the
file as read only, when I try to save it on the network I get:

This file cannot be edited, possibly due to missing access rights. Do
you want to edit a copy of the document?

If I attempt to save the file in the same location, but with a
different file name, I get:

Error saving the document Untitled 1:  Object not accessible.  The
object cannot be access due to insufficient user rights.

If I then attempt to save the document to the local drive (C), it
works as expected.

So far in searches have not found anything referencing this issue
except for one tech document on Novell.

This ONLY affects Libreoffice, MS office on the same machine does not
have any issues.

I have rolled Libreoffice back to version 5 on one machine that having
this issue, and it opens and saves files without any issues.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Howard

Interesting list. I've always liked working with plain text files.

Do you have any information/opinion about various forms of markdown
files (i.e. Markdown, RestructureText, AsciiDoc).

This semester, I played with making slide presentations using AsciiDoc
and its "slidy" backend.

The source file might look something like:

===
Title
===

Slide Title
--

* A Bulleted item

** A nested bulleted item with *boldface* type.
** Another nested bulleted item with _italicized_ text.

Another Slide Title
--

After creating the document, I run it through AsciiDoc's converter and
it creates a very simple slide presentation in HTML format. However, the
source file remains plain text. Would a screen reader get tripped up by
the various formatting tags (* A Bulleted item; _italics_, *boldface*)?

Those who prefer to do things the easy way:
* Fire up a text editor;

My recommendation is that if organisation branding includes predefined
colours for charts, then the filename has to be standard.soc, otherwise
use Organisation_Name_Branding.soc .

Distribute the palette to the organization.
Include instructions on how to correctly install the palette.

Installation instructions differ according to one's specific platform.
(For at least one Linux distro, colour palettes can not be customized,
unless you have support contract with the distro vendor.)

only examples I could find were in C, C++ or Visual Basic, none of

have, or have ever worked with.

I then had a look at LibreOffice 5.3 SDK API.  I believe that is the API
that Base uses, and over several years I have developed a number of
databases using macros that make calls to the API. One API service I
found
was,  com.sun.star.io.pipe,  which looks as though it might be what I
need,
but I don't know if it would work with a USB port, and I could not
find any

macro code examples that might point me in the right direction.

So my questions are -
1.  Does anyone know if it is possible to read from a USB port using a
LibreOffice macro utilising the API?  If so can you point me to some
example code (preferably in Basic)?
2.  Failing that, is there a simple application on the market that
can read
a USB MIDI stream into a buffer or file?  I think Device Monitoring
Studio
can do that, but it is expensive and has far more features than I'll
ever

need.

Any help in this regard would be much appreciated

Thanks,

Noel

Re: [libreoffice-users] Reading from a USB device.

2017-08-28 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

You may want to take a look at Realterm

Realterm is an engineers terminal program specially designed for
capturing, controlling and debugging binary and other difficult data
streams. It is the best tool for debugging comms.

Post-Processing capture file is just one of many things it can do.

https://realterm.sourceforge.io/

I have not used it to analyze MIDI, but if there's data, it will see it.

Hope this helps.

Since this problem seems ubiquitous across many LO versions and across

this issue is a LO problem. Although it may be a problem which only LO

similar computer which has not been updated yet since the end of
March. Hopefully, it will work and I can incrementally install the
security updates one at a time while retesting LO for crashing after
each installation. Hopefully, the culprit update package will show

Could be several things, although off the cuff, LO5.2.x was known to

Why do I mention a Java problem ? Because the devs changed the version

in 5.3. Of course, it could all be specific to your Slackware setup...

Alex,
Thanks for your prompt response. I have been working on this problem
all morning. I first upgraded jdk-8u112 with jdk-8u131 with the same
results. I then tried LO 5.2.7.2 with the same results. I then tried
LO 5.3.4.2 with the same results. I then upgraded the MySQL
Connector from 5.1.40 to 5.1.42 with the same results. Nothing I do
seems to affect whatever is causing LO to crash. I also started LO
from a console to see if LO spit out any pertinent messages when it
crashed - none.

Whatever is happening here, it is broad. I even tried to use my
OpenOffice Base odb file with the same LO results. Now this file
works fine in AOO.

There are two datapoints I had not thought of when I posted my
message yesterday. One is that I successfully edited and printed a
report on 6/19/17 with LO 5.2.6.2. So, it was working at that time.

The other is that I upgraded glibc from version 2.23 build 1 to 2.23
build 2 yesterday, before I noticed LO crashing. But I tried
returning to the old glibc version and LO still crashed, so I doubt
glibc was the cause. The other Slackware packages that I changed
yesterday are: bind, irssi, mozilla-firefox, openvpn, sudo, the
Linux kernel, httpd, libcgroup, libcrypt, mkinitrd,
mozilla-thunderbird, nasm, and pkg-config. None of these should have
affected LO, but...

There is something else going on besides Base crashing. I was
checking the "Tools" | "Options" with nothing loaded and when I got
to the bottom item, "Internet" | "MediaWiki", LO crashed when I
selected it. I wasn't even close to MySQL or Base at the time.

BTW: I am running a Dual-core Athlon CPU, 32-bit ix86 Linux and
Java, 8GB RAM, and 10% of 1TB disk space used. So it shouldn't be a
lack of resources. Besides, as I said, OpenOffice is still running
fine. My problem with using AOO, is that it does not have the Base
Report Generator I need to print my reports.

Hope this helps narrow this problem down. I am about to issue a bug

Re: [libreoffice-users] Canon USA Printer Support are using LibreOffice? boot repair

2017-06-01 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

Go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/files/

Download the appropriate 32 or 64 bit iso and create a CD, NOT A DVD.

Suggest ImgBurn if on Windows. http://www.imgburn.com/

If it does boot, use default repair.

If it does not, research online the hot-key for your computer that
allows 'boot from CD" or "Select Boot Drive" option during boot.

If this does not work, it is very common for newer computers to boot to USB.

Make bootable USB stick with iso image. See https://unetbootin.github.io/

There are many methods for this in the internet, research until you find
the method you will be most comfortable with.

Once the boot has been repaired, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecoveryMode

Select "network" and then "dpkg".

If dpkg starts to work and fails, restart machine and repeat until it
has nothing left to fix.

Hope this helps.

Well cheap or not, it is nice to have as many big companies using

I bet there are a lot of people out there, and on these lists, that
are using LO not because of being "cheap". It is nice to have a free

Steve

Well, if you look at the CNN Headline News, they have stated that MS has
a patch for this virus, but wanted to charge some users for it. The
on-air comment seems to say that since MS had the patch, they should
have sent it out to ALL MS Windows users. Plus, it the patch was
installed, most computers would not have been infected.

Fro me, I use Linux so I do not have the security problems as MS Windows
users. I do have Win10, but rarely use it. Most times I just go to the
Win 10 partition to run the update app.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Libre Writer or Excel - File Name List - Pritning

2017-04-27 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

The easiest way I can think of is:

Do <"Accessories"> and left-click on Prompt>

Change to the directory that includes the "Music" folder using CD command.
Enter this command..
dir Music /S /B >"C:\Users\your-name-here\Desktop\Music-file-list.txt"

It should output a file on your Desktop named Music-file-list.txt

Open Music-file-list.txt with LibreOffice Writer.
Highlight "C:\Users\your-name-here\Music\" and -Find and Replace- With
blank Replace line and no "Other Options".
Since I don't know where you "Music" folder is, the highlighted text
maybe different, but will begin with C: and end with Music\.

This should leave you with something like...

Sinatra\CapitolYears\MyWay

Now -Find and Replace-
Find\
Replace ;

If we're lucky and there are no semi-colons in your Song names, we
should be safe.

This should leave you with something like...

Sinatra;CapitolYears;MyWay

Insert a blank line on the very first line and type...
"Artist";"Album";"Song"

Do Music-file-list-processed.txt
Make sure "Save as type:" is set to "Text (.txt) (*.txt)"
Do not overwrite your original file as a safety precaution.

Close Writer.

Right click on "Music-file-list-processed.txt" from your Desktop.
Open with LibreOffice Calc.
When Text Import screen comes up, make sure "Separator Options" has a
check-mark next to Semicolon.

Save as a Calc file.

Now you can play with ways to display data, make corrections data in
wrong column and format printing.

Hope this helps
Paul

In Windows 7, opening Windows Explorer to my Music folder I can see all the

album name(s) in their sub-folders and then when I open the album
sub-folders I can see all the songs listed under that album (in .mp3 or
.wav format).

Ex, First folder - Abba - last folder - ZZ Top.

Since there are no albums under some of the artists there will just be song
titles,

But for those with albums - ex. Sinatra > Album titled Capitol Years (as a
sub-folder under Sinatra) there wil then be songs listed by tile under the
sub-folder (album).

This info is not stored in a Libre Calc or Excel file not in a Libre Writer
nor MS Word file.

They are just listed in Windows Explorer.

I simply want to print a list of every artist (by name, alphabetically)
with each of their respective albums (by name, if applicable) and then all
of each artist's songs (by name, alphabetically).

Will MusicBrainz Picard <http://picard.musicbrainz.org do that or is that

With *Mp3tag* you can export file and tag information of your audio
collection to files with user-defined file formats. You can either use
one of the predefined export configurations to export file information
to Excel via the CSV export configuration, let Mp3tag create a nicely
looking HTML playlist with one of the html export configurations or you
create an export configuration by yourself where you can freely decided
on the file format and the layout.

An export configuration consists of a unique name, a filename for the
exported file and the definition of the file format. The file format is
defined by you, so it's possible to create, e.g., HTML, XML, CSV, batch
file or LaTeX output.

Mp3tag features a simple template language which can be used to loop
over artists, albums and arbitrary other tag fields. The tag and file
informations are represented by placeholders, which are replaced when
doing the export. You can find an overview of all valid placeholders and
an example at /Configuration, Export/
<http://help.mp3tag.de/options_export.html>.

http://help.mp3tag.de/main_export.html

I have not used Mp3tag, but it should work as claimed.

Picard is excellent, but a bit of patience is greatly rewarded.

Donate if you can.

Hope this helps.

Under each album (or artist alone if an album had not been created for
that artist) are all the songs.

Ex. My Way
  Love and Marriage
  New York New York
 Etc.

In many instances there will be no album listed as there may be only one
song under that artist.

Ex. Elvis
   Return to Sender

Summary: This is how it looks on my hard drive?

C:\Music\Sinatra\CapitolYears\MyWay
…along with other songs (as .mp3 or .wav files) listed in the Folder
(Capitol Years) under the Folder (Sinatra).

I’ve already had one external hard drive die suddenly with music on
it. I

want to, at the very least, have a list of all my music on this external
hard drive so when it dies I’ll have all the music list printed.

Is there an *easy* way to do this in Windows 7 (32 bit)?

I downloaded the ptdirprn-setupexe from KAREN’S Directory Printer (
https://karenware.com/ - to a flash drive and then copied and pasted it
into C:\Download folder on my desktop hard drive.

It’s 1,266 kb but when I tried to open it under my Admin user (it
prompted
that for an install) I get the error message - ”Installer integrity
check
has failed. Common causes include an incomplete download and damaged
media.

Contact the installer’s author to a obtain a new copy. More info at
http:/nsis.sf.nsis_error.

I downloaded that same file three times and each time got the same error
message.

I then downloaded -
https://www.pendriveapps.com/create-a-list-of-songs-album-printer -
and it

only displays some of the artists (less then 1/3) and not alphabetically
and not their albums – just a very haphazard list.

I’d very much appreciate your suggestions about any freeware which could
generate a full music list of artists, albums and song tittles for
printing.

Thank you!

Charles.

Have you added the metadata from C:\Music\Sinatra\CapitolYears\MyWay to
your files?

My learned and esteemed listmates,

I wish to print the names of every artist with their respective album names

that album name (sub-folder).

I’ve saved these files as such:

Artist name (mostly in alphabetical descending order – A – Z) each a
separate folder.

Ex. Frank Sinatra (the folder)

Under that artist’s name (folder) is often (but not always) a sub-folder
with an album name

Re: [libreoffice-users] Setting the hash for time stamping when create PDF

2017-04-20 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

Hello Vesselin

I apologize for my previous reply. Did not catch the caveat at the
bottom of the page.

*Notice*: The main limitation on OpenOffice 5 is that you can't change
the hash used "SHA1" that really shouldn't be used for security
related purposes like signing documents. There are external
applications better for this purpose.

Dear All,

Since I cannot find a complete answer of my question neither in the
LibreOffice Documentation nor on the Internet, I decided to forward it
to this mailing list.

Is there any way (even through external Java class) to specify the hash
algorithm when requesting TSA based time stamp? At the present
LibreOffice creates a time stamp request based on SHA1. But this hash
algorithm is considered obsolete. Hence that automatically turns the
time stamped PDF into insecure ones. Note that the same problem occurs
with all signature produced by LibreOffice in general - no possibility
to specify the parameters for creating the signature.

Thank you very much in advance for your response!

Best regards,

Vesselin Kolev

You may want to use a separate program to secure your document that
meets the specification you want.

See https://freetsa.org/guide/libreoffice-time-stamping.html

Hope this helps
