[EMAIL PROTECTED] Slow start of Apache 2.0.55 on AIX 5.3

2006-01-18 Thread Lekha Menon
Hi,

I have installed Apache 2.0.55 on AIX 5.3 machine.
For installation, i have used the command "configure --prefix=".

Apache was installed properly without any errors.

However on startup, i.e. execution of "apachectl start", it starts apache v
slowly. Same for "apachectl stop". I have not modified the httpd.conf file,
it is same as the one created during installation.

On the same machine, when i later installed Apache 1.3.29, this version is
fast unlike Apache 2.0.55

Can anyone pls point out what the reason could be.

Thanks in adv,
Lekha

2006-01-18 Thread Oliver.Schaudt
Hi dom,

1. Do you see some lines like "proxy: BALANCER: Found value 12721798.A_ for
stickysession sessionkey" in the "error_log" ?
2.Do you have set your session-identifier nameinside your servers behind Apache
to "sessionkey" and the route alias jvmroute to your "A_" and "B_" ? If not
than it won't work.

Bye

the 'stickyness' doesn't work.

the sessionkey-coockie is set to something like 12721798.A_

after a few clicks (depends from 2 to 15) i get connectet to the second Member,
but don't see why! any ideas?

when i have a look at the logfile, i never see some information about the
coockie or so.. :-(

thanks in advance

I'm using perls Text::ParseWords for doing this:

If you have the classic combined LogFormat:

LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\""
combined

You can do:

use Text::ParseWords;
use DBI;
# Database connect here

while(<>) {
  my ($remote_host, $logname, $authuser, $time, $request,
  $status, $size, $referer, $user_agent) = quotewords(/\s+/, 0, $_)
  $dbh->do("INSERT ...");
}

$time can be easily converted by using HTTP::Date.

DaTa

Hi Oliver,

1. no, i don't.. thats the strange thing.. just see in the accesslog:
[debug] mod_proxy_balancer.c(41): proxy: BALANCER: canonicalising URL
//produrl/site
[debug] mod_proxy_balancer.c(803): proxy: Entering byrequests for BALANCER
(balancer://prod)

[debug] mod_proxy.c(736): Running scheme balancer handler (attempt 0)

2. don't really understand your question. my 'backendservers' produce a cookie
with teh attribute 'sessionkey' and use this for the own
sessiondeclaration, so
i thought to use that one. i (the webserver) just added ".A_" at the
end of the

sessionkey for identify the 'route' to apache, but i guess thats not the only
thing i need to do? i can produce every cookie-attribute you like, thats not
the problem.. whats jvmroute? i'm not using tomcat, we use a self written
webserver..

i thought it should be easy: a have allready a sessionkey, so thats nice. then
the backendwebserver now which server he is, so he set another attribute, and
add this to the sessionkey (sessionkey.route) and this route is
definied on the

BalanceMember.. but i guess i missunderstand the topc.. :-(

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Slow start of Apache 2.0.55 on AIX 5.3

2006-01-18 Thread Lekha Menon
I tried reinstalling apache again.

Installation procedure takes a long time on AIX as compared to its
installation on other OS like Solaris / Linux.
During installation, it waits long time during steps -
"checking for Berkeley DB 4.3 in the standard places...
checking db43/db.h usability... no
checking db43/db.h presence... no
checking for db43/db.h... no"
The same is repeated for db4/db.h.

The above checks are being performed repeatedly.

What could be the reason?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apache installation problem -socket address usage

2006-01-18 Thread Ian Western
Hi everyone, can anyone out there help me. I'm trying to install Apache but whenever I try to run it, I get a window with the text below:     "(OS 10048) Only one usage of each socket address is normally permitted. :make_sock    could not bind to address 0.0.0.0.80 -no listening sockets available, shutting down. Unable to open logs."     I've managed to iron out a few problems before I got to this stage but this has got me stumped. Can anybody help?     Many thanks, Ian Western

AW: [EMAIL PROTECTED] stickysession at mod_proxy_balancer

2006-01-18 Thread Oliver.Schaudt
Hi dom,

so than it seems that the definitions which you had in your apache
configuration don't match your session cookie

Can you use "tamper data"
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=966&application=firefox

or iehttpheaders to see whar you have in your headers sent by the server when
he sends you the cookie [the line sith "set-cookie"] . Upon this set-cookie
your Browser should send back every time a headerline beginning with "cookie".
If this is the case than the cookie should look like
12345678.A_ oder 12345678.B_ . Otherwise you have to change your configuration

If you don't want to run in a timeout or if you have a firewall inbetween the
apache and the backend web server than you can add "keepalive=on" behind the
route.

bye

Hi Oliver,

1. no, i don't.. thats the strange thing.. just see in the accesslog:
[debug] mod_proxy_balancer.c(41): proxy: BALANCER: canonicalising URL
//produrl/site
[debug] mod_proxy_balancer.c(803): proxy: Entering byrequests for BALANCER
(balancer://prod)
[debug] mod_proxy_balancer.c(396): proxy: BALANCER (balancer://prod) worker
(http://192.168.1.1:8001 ) rewritten to
http://192.168.1.1:8001/site

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsorted timestamping in Apache2 log files

2006-01-18 Thread mdemuro
Hi,
I have problems with throughput calculation from log files in apache2.
Using "classic" awk scripts the output is messy due to the fact that
the lines in the log are not sorted with respect to time.
In fact each line of the logs has the timestamp of when the request
has been made; this means that different response times urls have
different orders depending on the response time itself.

 - Is this a known bug? (with correspondig fix...)
 - Is there any configuration workaround? (I cannot fix the source
code and recompile it)

Thanks in advance for any kind of big heart suggestion/help/hint

For recent versions, the exact command line will be in
build/config.nice under the apache installation prefix.

Apache logs are not sorted by time. That is just a fact, not a bug.
The time is calculated when the request is received but the log line
is written after the response is sent. You can easily sort them
yourself after-the-fact if you need time-sorted logs. Otherwise,
there is no "solution" that doesn't involve recompiling.

Actually, another alternative would be to use a piped-logger, and have
this program write out the current time, overwriting anything written
by apache.

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SSL Logs and AWStats

2006-01-18 Thread Mark McCulligh
I was wondering what is the different between TransferLog and
CustomLog. The only difference I can see is that with the TransferLog
you cannot give it a log format or give it any other parameters. If
this is true why use the TransferLog when the CustomLog does the same
thing and has move features.

Thanks,
Mark.

Axel-Stéphane SMORGRAV wrote:

Your SSL virtual host logs to access_log using the "common" format (by default).

Since the "combined" format is parsed correctly, I suggest that you replace the
TransferLog directive in the SSL VH by the same CustomLog directive used in the non-SSL
virtual host. If you are logging to the same file, you may just as well use the same
format...

Subject: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SSL Logs and AWStats

Hi Group,

I have been looking at how to get AWStats to read SSL logs. And only
finding other people looking for the same thing, but no real answers.

Below is how I have my VirtualHost setup. Built using the examples in
the docs

   <...>
  ErrorLog /usr/local/httpd/logs/site1/error_log
  CustomLog /usr/local/httpd/logs/site1/access_log conbined
  LogLevel emerg

   <...>
  ErrorLog /usr/local/httpd/logs/site1/error_log
  TransferLog /usr/local/httpd/logs/site1/access_log
  CustomLog /usr/local/httpd/logs/site1/ssl_request_log \
  "%t %h %{SSL_PROTOCOL}x %{SLS_CIPHER}x \"%r\" %b"

AWStats is reading the access_log file and of course when it read the
records from SSL they come up as corrupted records. How do you get
AWStats to read the SSL logs?

Thanks,
Mark.

Every bug is also a fact ( ;-) ). In my opinion writing not ordered lines
is not so nice, instead of logging arrival rate, apache2 tracks the completion
rates but with the arrival timestamp instead of the completion timestamp;
this is not so clean...

Sorting in reasonable time is not so easy for a "real" http log file (unless
you have a cray supercomputing system... ;-) )

Another application is already using port 80, and only one application can
bind to a port.

dear oliver,

hmm.. that was i guessd as well at the beginning, so i added the cookie
[%{sessionkey}C] into the apache-log-file, and it looks exactely like it have
to [12345678.A_]! :-(

strange is that when i access the balancing module (the summary where all the
members are shown, etc..) on stickysession is no entry, the route is shown..
when i manually add sessionkey to 'stickysession' it's shown but same
funtionality..

i'm going stupid soon.. ;-)

thanks
dom

Hi dom,

so than it seems that the definitions which you had in your apache
configuration don't match your session cookie

Can you use "tamper data"
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=966&application=firefox

or iehttpheaders to see whar you have in your headers sent by the
server when he sends you the cookie [the line sith "set-cookie"] .
Upon this set-cookie your Browser should send back every time a
headerline beginning with "cookie".

If this is the case than the cookie should look like
12345678.A_ oder 12345678.B_ . Otherwise you have to change your
configuration

If you don't want to run in a timeout or if you have a firewall
inbetween the apache and the backend web server than you can add
"keepalive=on" behind the route.

bye

Oliver

http://192.168.1.1:8001/site

[debug] mod_proxy.c(736): Running scheme balancer handler (attempt 0)

2. don't really understand your question. my 'backendservers' produce
a cookie

with teh attribute 'sessionkey' and use this for the own
sessiondeclaration, so
i thought to use that one. i (the webserver) just added ".A_" at the
end of the
sessionkey for identify the 'route' to apache, but i guess thats not the only
thing i need to do? i can produce every cookie-attribute you like, thats not
the problem.. whats jvmroute? i'm not using tomcat, we use a self written
webserver..

i thought it should be easy: a have allready a sessionkey, so thats
nice. then

the backendwebserver now which server he is, so he set another attribute, and
add this to the sessionkey (sessionkey.route) and this route is
definied on the
BalanceMember.. but i guess i missunderstand the topc.. :-(

Hi dom,

1. Do you see some lines like "proxy: BALANCER: Found value

2.Do you have set your session-identifier nameinside your servers
behind Apache to "sessionkey" and the route alias jvmroute to your
"A_" and "B_" ? If not than it won't work.

Please tell us what OS you are using? - we need to know
this if you want help.

As allready mentioned, only one application can attach
itself to one port address.

It appears you may allready have a web server listening on
port 80 unless you are not starting apache as root.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Strange Log Entries... No Client Address?

2006-01-18 Thread David P. Donahue

I just started getting hits like this:

. - - [18/Jan/2006:11:59:26 -0500] "GET /index.html" 200 1367 "-" "-"

Some of the other entries at least give a user agent, which just looks
like IE. I guess it could be a bot, or it could even be someone trying
to mask their address with intent to be naughty. Not sure what to make
of it, since it's also periodically looking for strange things, such as
files named "location.href=" or some such. But, being my personal
website, I have no problem just blocking it outright.

So, my question is, is there an easy to way have Apache ignore requests
from hostless clients? Maybe a mod_rewrite to just give them an error
page? Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] htpasswd

2006-01-18 Thread William A. Rowe, Jr.

David's suggestion won't solve your problem...

your browser will (deliberately) share credentials or cookies between
server1.com and server2.com. As long as the domain names are out of
sync, your browser will compartmentalize the information specific to
each server.

Perhaps you want to reverse proxy server2 behind server1.com, making
everything within http://server1.com/server2/... fetch its contents
from server?

If you were truly load-balancing, then all requests at http://server1.com
would be round-robin'ed between the two machines, and the -browser- would
think it was always looking at the same server, so the credentials, that
is either the cookies or auth passwords, would be common between those boxes.

David Wolever wrote:

I don't think Apache likes to do that very much... I'm sure it would

It may be quicker and easier to whip something up in PHP (or Perl, or
Python or what have you). I know sessions are really easy in PHP, you
could probably do this sort of authentication in a couple of lines
(feel free to e-mail me if you'd like those couple lines).

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Using environment variable in httpd.conf

2006-01-18 Thread Khai Doan
I am a mod_perl programmer, and I also manage my company web server.  We are growing and constantly adding new features to our products.  I find myself making change to the httpd.conf very frequent.  Sometimes, I change httpd.conf on the development server, and later forget to apply the change to httpd.conf on staging server, and production servers.  I wish to have the httpd.conf in my company cvs repository and get pushed out along with the rest of the application code.  Unfortunately quite a few things in httpd.conf stand in the way, such as hardcoded paths, and port numbers.  (We are in an environment where all developers have to develop on one development server, and each developer is assigned a port number, and run a separate apache process listening on that port.)  I also want other developers to be able to check in changes to the httpd.conf file.

If I set up environment variables to hold these hardcoded paths, and port numbers, can I use these environment variables in httpd.conf?

If I am to write a module in C to handle this, where can I start?  What book do you recommend?

Yeah, I should have been a little less vague. Here's the
"different handling" part: 1) Apache to serve some pages for
a subversion interface and 2) Apache to proxy some requests
to the CMS server - both over the same SSL Virtual Host.

My guess is from what you're saying, that the RewriteCond is
probably a clean way to do this. At least it's not obfuscated.

Yes, it's fine. You could probably alternatively use

ProxyPass / http://othersite/

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ldaps authentication

2006-01-18 Thread Sturgis, Grant
Greetings List,

I have seen this question posted several times, but have not seen a
resolution. If it is in the archives, I apologize for not seeing it
there.

I have ldap authentication working using mod_auth_ldap, but I want to
enable ldaps to avoid transmitting passwords in clear text. This is the
configuration so far:

   AuthType basic
   AuthName "ldap test"
   AuthLDAPUrl
ldap://dc1.domain.com/dc=domain,dc=com?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=u
ser)
   AuthLDAPBindDN cn=nobody,ou=Users-IT,dc=domain,dc=com
   AuthLDAPBindPassword password
   AuthLDAPGroupAttribute member
   require group cn=ldap_test_group,ou=Users-IT,dc=domain,dc=com

however, to enable ldaps, I add these lines (outside the , of
course):

LDAPTrustedCA /etc/httpd/conf/cacerts/dc1.cer
LDAPTrustedCAType BASE64_FILE

and then change ldap to ldaps in the AuthLDAPUrl line

and it stops working.

I have used this cert successfully in pam_ldap and ldapsearch.

Any suggestions for what I could be doing wrong?

The details:

RHEL ES 4
httpd-2.0.52-22.ent

Thanks for any suggestions,

Grant

I took a lot of time to find out the problem. It was a httpd.conf line: "MIMEMagicFile path/to/it ". When I changed this line to "MimeMagicFile path/to/it" , it again started to work. As far as I know, httpd.conf is case  insensitive. What can be the reason causing this? I can almost guarantee that changing the case of the MimeMagicFile
directive did not have any effect. There was probably something else
that changed.

As to your other problem, you need to get much more detailed
information. If you have no other way of looking at the data, you can
try mod_dumpio. But you are using a very old version of apache that
doesn't include this module.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] AddHandler/AddType in

2006-01-18 Thread spamvanger
Hello all,

I'm migrating from the old days to 2.2 and I have a problem getting my old
.html-files parsed by PHP 5.1 using the usual settings in in
httpd-vhosts.conf.

As I have understood from the documentation the AddType/AddHandler directive is
valid in the context and should override settings from the
mime-file. Unfortunately neither of them seem to work.

If I change the AddType to include .html files in the general config file all
gets parsed exquisitely.

There's nothing in the error_log, and all configtests run smoothly.

If anybody has a clue or is able to reproduce this problem please let me know!

Here's the dummy example adapted to my settings:

(Note, I was playing with> language, lang, locale settings a few days ago but now sure if this effects..)I can almost guarantee that changing the case of the MimeMagicFiledirective did not have any effect. There was probably something elsethat changed. As to your other problem, you need to get much more detailedinformation. If you have no other way of looking at the data, you cantry mod_dumpio. But you are using a very old version of apache thatdoesn't include this

No, directives in only override directives placed in the
*same context* outside . So a inside
a will override the same container outside a
, but directives placed in will always
override directives placed in the bare outside any other
section.

A seriously screwed up system?

What is your locale set to? On some systems, basic functions like
strcasecmp don't work properly if the locale is not set to "C".
Sounds like what you are seeing.

At least this one probably needs to be set to "C".

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using environment variable in httpd.conf

2006-01-18 Thread Tom Hoefakker
As far as I know, it's an undocumented "feature". But, in my
experience, it does actually work quite well. While I vaguely recall a
note on the development list questioning whether or not this should be
removed, I would love to see this become a full-fledged documented
feature as it is very useful in situations such as yours.

In your httpd.conf file you can use environment variables like this:
${varname}

In our environment, we use environment variables for quite a few things:
ServerRoot
Port
DocumentRoot
module paths - both bundled and custom modules
User & group (different users in development vs. production)
path to piped log program
log file path
etc...

Hope this helps.
Tom

the change to httpd.conf on staging server, and production servers. I
wish to have the httpd.conf in my company cvs repository and get pushed
out along with the rest of the application code. Unfortunately quite a
few things in httpd.conf stand in the way, such as hardcoded paths, and
port numbers. (We are in an environment where all developers have to
develop on one development server, and each developer is assigned a port
number, and run a separate apache process listening on that port.) I
also want other developers to be able to check in changes to the
httpd.conf file.

If I set up environment variables to hold these hardcoded paths, and
port numbers, can I use these environment variables in httpd.conf?

If I am to write a module in C to handle this, where can I start? What
book do you recommend?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] php_admin_flag question

2006-01-18 Thread Graham Frank
Hello.

I am trying to restrict a open_basedir to the document root of the domain.
So I have the following in httpd.conf.

  php_admin_value open_basedir /

That isn't working. I've tried it using as well. I'm still
able to fopen("/etc/passwd"); How could I make it so that a person in say
/home/username/domain.com can only include from /home/username/domain.com
and not /etc/passwd (for example)? I would turn on safe_mode, but files are
uid:gid the client's FTP account while apache doesn't suexec to their
username and runs httpd:httpd.

Thanks!
