Re: AI assistant for NetBeans

2024-02-11 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Several people in this thread still, after all these years, seem under the
mistaken impression that there are magic pixies creating things in NetBeans.

There. Are. No. Pixies. There. Is. Only. You.

You are NetBeans. Missing a feature? Then create that feature. You don't
want to create that feature. That means you don't really need that feature
after all.

What is "the app itself"? An application on the NetBeans Platform? A
web application? A PHP application? If it is a NetBeans Platform based
application, the file to configure the font is in etc/xxx.conf, e.g.,
etc/netbeans.conf or whatever the name of that file is for your
application.

Re: Launcher Icons and Splash Screens Issue

2022-10-18 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Try to get it working on the command line with Cordova first. NetBeans is
simply a tool on top of Cordova. If you can get something working on the
command line without NetBeans, it should also work with NetBeans.

Take a look around at the apache.org website to see what it is about (i.e.,

Re: NB 15 no linux installer anymore?

2022-09-13 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Linux users: use the binary zip, Snap, or our community installers
(there is a .deb without JDK too), https://codelerity.com/netbeans/.
This has been discussed on dev@ a little while back. Linux installer

Re: File Type tutorial - Action next step

2022-07-18 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
You'll receive the FileObject in the ActionListener's constructor. Just put
it there and NetBeans will provide it. From the FileObject you can get the
File via FiltUtil.getFile(FileObject) or you can use the FileObject
directly and use UrlDisplayer to display it.

Nobody is going to be able to help you, with or without the installer,
without the project or a similar project, that can be used to
reproduce the problem.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Apache NetBeans 13 released

2022-03-05 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
You're going to need to stop uninstalling and reinstalling, it doesn't
make any difference, it will not solve your problem.

Whenever you're starting up NetBeans, you're importing the settings
you used to have and so you end up having NetBeans look like it used
to do.

Stop importing the settings or remove the settings, as Michael Bien
advised above.

To help you, you'll need to be clearer about what you mean here.

And uninstalling NetBeans and then reinstalling it and then importing
your settings again will give you the same results as before.

You should notice the startup experience being simpler with nb-javac being
bundled, you should notice the look and feel being different and more
modern, and there are partial updates for Maven, Gradle, and PHP:

Hi all,

Virtual FOSDEM is taking place today and tomorrow and since it's all
on-line instead of in Brussels, simply go here to attend the Friends of
OpenJDK room, where a lot of short Java sessions (plus more e.g., Kotlin)
will be held throughout today and tomorrow:

The on-line chat throughout the two days is here:

https://chat.fosdem.org/#/room/#openjdk-devroom:fosdem.org

And if you join the #fosdem2022 room on the Foojay Slack, you'll be able to
win prizes, e.g., an oculus, plus various other techy toys, and free
licenses to Zoran Sevarac's Deep Netts (deepnetts.com) A/I learning tool on
NetBeans:

Re: Offline Install of Netbeans on JDK 8 (with nb-javac)

2022-01-20 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Brad,

Please find the recent thread by Neil "[NOTICE] Apache NetBeans 13 release
candidate 1 available for testing".

Download the rc-1 and see if that solves your problem.

We need feedback on this, please, not after the release is done, but now,
before the release, so that we can fix what needs fixing.

Can you report it with steps, would be happy to try to reproduce it. And I
think we need to remove all FindBugs support since it's broken and no
longer supported.

Something that looks like a big 'ole bug is welcome to be turned into an
issue.

Re: Log4j 1.x Vulnerabilities

2022-01-04 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
We've looked for "log4j" in the NetBeans 12.6 binaries, as follows:

--
nb16$ find . -type f | grep -i log4j
./extide/ant/lib/ant-apache-log4j.jar
./ide/modules/ext/log4j-1.2.15.jar
--

So, we ship "log41-1.2.15.jar" with the binaries and, quoting the official
source [1]:

"Log4j 1.x is not impacted by this vulnerability."

(where "this vulnerability" means
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2021-44832).

Hope it helps,

Re: Offline Install of Netbeans on JDK 8 (with nb-javac)

2021-12-25 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Download nb-javac at home where you have Internet, put it on a usb stick,
take the usb stick to work, upload nb-javac into your environment, then
install it via the Plugin Manager.

Or use a later version of the JDK where you don’t need nb-javac, i.e., any
version after JDK 8, or wait until NetBeans 13, in the first months of
2022, where nb-javac will be part of NetBeans.

Best to start moving away from JDK 8, though. There are now two LTS
releases since 8.

“installed over Oracle’s JDK 8”

What does this mean? NetBeans runs on any JDK from 8 onwards.

Happy holidays all

2021-12-24 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Hi all,

Happy holidays all. :-)

It’s been another great year of quarterly Apache NetBeans releases. In the
coming year, we’re looking forward to and can expect:

1. Better start up experience via direct integration of nb-javac into
Apache NetBeans.

2. Whole number releases, i.e., the next release will be 13, then 14, then
15, etc.

3. Better start up experience via bundling of OpenJDK with Apache NetBeans,
which can’t be done as part of Apache because of the licensing of the
OpenJDK, and will be hosted below, at least:

https://www.codelerity.com/netbeans/

The above developments, all of which have been discussed at length or at
least mentioned on the dev mailing list several times (please join that
list if you’re not on it yet), together will put Apache NetBeans in a
strong position to offer a more complete and coherent basis for further
contributions and usage in developer communities.

Thanks all for your involvement and support for this project, for some of
you over many years indeed. :-)

Kind regards,

Gj

You need to run on JDK 8 to install the plugin, after that use a later JDK
if you like.

You’ll have to create a separate NBM per version of NetBeans that you’re

Everyone who's reported issues connected to Groovy in recent releases of

If you can still reproduce, please provide the issue numbers of issues that
can be reproduced.

Go here to get 12.6 rc-3:

Yes, it would be a surprise if that Chrome Connector plugin was still
working and the video you refer to is several years old too.

Chrome itself is constantly changing, making it hard to keep up with
plugins such as this one, if we can find the source, maybe we can work on
it, maybe it has or hasn't been contributed here yet.

Sounds about right. When you think you want Groovy, you need to be reminded
that what you actually need in the background is Java. NetBeans — your

2021-10-22 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Tried creating a Groovy file without having installed any plugins, seems to
be looking for a plugin that it can't find, in 12.5, something seems broken
with that plugin, others have reported similar issues with Groovy in 12.5.
Maybe try 12.4 while we figure it out?

Not sure. Check whether you have syntax coloring before/after having the

Then you're going to need to describe what you did in a previous release
(i.e., not guess, but actually debug Groovy in the previous release) and do
the same as you did then in the current release and, on that failing,
provide your sequence of steps here so that others can reproduce and help.

You don’t need nb-javac when you are not using JDK 8. NetBeans will use
javac from the JDK for the Java Editor features in NetBeans.

Re: Source code for article on Zip Features?

2021-09-03 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Just a reality check for you: you are referring to a blog entry written in
June 2013, which is give and take almost 10 years ago. All of java.net,
which you’re pointing to, no longer exists, for many years. So, you can
only be asking whether I have code locally on my laptop, where laptops tend
to be replaced every two to three years or so... etc. So, no.

Re: How to installAFX on Netbeans 12.4

2021-08-31 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Indeed, no need to install JavaFX.

Go to Java | Maven in the New Project dialog, and you'll find the two
OpenJFX Gluon Maven archetypes there to get you started.

Probably, if you're a complete beginner, start with "Java with Ant".

For 1, yes, I believe so, but possibly it is for Ant based Java projects
only, for 3, try OutputListener.

It does and probably that checkbox should be checked by default.

Great to hear you figured it out. :-)

Onward to cool look and feels for all NetBeans Platform applications!

Re: [plugins] [wordpress] [php] PHP WordPress Blog/CMS plugin

2021-08-26 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Probably that plugin doesn’t support the version of NetBeans you’re using.
At least it would be best to try with the latest release of NetBeans, which
is 12.4, or even better 12.5 Beta 2.

Re: How to manage "Platform Modules" in a Maven-based NetBeans Platform application?

2021-08-25 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
It really depends on what you’re trying to develop.

Put aside the theory and ask yourself practically what it is you’re working
towards and what kind of functionality you need from the NetBeans Platform.

Based on those requirements, assemble your POM, share your specific
questions about your actual needs here, and we’ll help.
