This is beyond frustrating. I have watched every tutorial possible. I have
uninstalled open office multiple times to no avail. All I am trying to do is a
mail merge where I print out labels. Every time I try this I take my open
office spread sheet convert it into a open office database file but no matter
what I do it does not recognize the tables and I can not do anything with the
data. WHY IS THIS?

Attached is the file I am trying to use.

In an Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 the file unoloader.jar is located in the folder
URE in the installation folder. In Apache OpenOffice 4.1 it is located in
program/classes in the installation folder. You should be able to extract it
from the *.cab file, in case you have not installed an Apache OpenOffice.

There does not exist an Apache OpenOffice version 5.

Kind regards

unoloader.jar missing

2017-03-17 Thread Edwin Samuel Jonathan
Hi,

I am from the ColdFusion team in Adobe. We are using OOSDK in our product. For
some reason, unoloader.jar seems to have never been added from our side. And we
never had an issue with it. After upgrading from Tomcat 8.0.x to 8.5.11, we are
getting a Jar not found error in our logs. After doing some research, I found
that ridl.jar had a dependency on unoloader.jar. The version of OOSDK which we
are currently using is 3.3.0. I found the unoloader.jar online but only from
version 5.x onwards. If we add the JAR to our project, it seems to be working
fine. Could you confirm if Unoloader-5.2.0.jar is compatible with other jars of
version 3.3.0? Or if it is not, is it possible to get the unoloader-3.3.0.jar
anywhere?

Thanks and regards

Well, I've now asked the question, so hope to find out soon. Perhaps

Probably as defined by the institution's preferred word processor or an

Word Counts

2015-07-14 Thread Jonathan Allen
Hello List,

Can you help me with how the word counts are done? Not what makes
up a word or a word-boundary - the 'help' told me that. Footnotes
or endnotes. Are the words in footnotes counted? And does that
differ for the whole document when nothing is selected, or when a
block of text (including footnotes) is selected?

Re: Word Counts

2015-07-14 Thread Jonathan Allen
Rory,

When text is selected the footnotes for that block are not counted.
Otherwise they are, and their number in the footnote seems to be
counted as a word. But don't rely on the word count matching that
 of MS Word.

Thank you so much for that. It's a good start. Two follow on questions:

  1. does LibreOffice work with the same rules?

  2. from an academic point of view, if a word-count limit is set for
a document, would you expect a best-effort count in OO to be an
excuse for being a tad over in MS Word?

What, exactly, happens when you save in .doc format? For example, do
you get an error message? Or, is .doc simply absent from the

I apologize in advance for the length of this e-mail. This seems to be
related to bug #125431, but the developers have had trouble getting the
problem to occur on their machines, for which reason they are having
trouble finding the cause. To clarify the problem, I have two questions.

1. Is the problem solely with the open functionality, or does saving
a document in 4.1.1 also corrupt the file?

The users who reported but #125431 only have trouble opening files, but
saving the files doesn't corrupt either the files or their profile;
other than that, your symptom is exactly the same as what they reported.

I understand you downgraded to Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1; can AOO 4.0.1
save a new password-protected spreadsheet, and simply not open the ones
that you attempted to modify and save in version 4.1.1?

If OpenOffice 4.0.1 cannot even open password-protected files that you
didn't touch in OO 4.1.1, then please see below.

2. If you uninstalled version 4.1.1 and installed 4.0.1 and still have
the problem, what happens if you also reset your profile? You can do
that by moving the

~/Library/Application Support/OpenOffice/4/user

folder to the Trash. In your Finder, click go, then Go to folder...
then type

~/Library/Application Support/OpenOffice/4

and click Go. Move user to the trash, restart your computer, and
see if OpenOffice 4.0.1 will open your password-protected files or not.

A. If it opens all password-protected files including those that you
attempted to save in OpenOffice 4.1.1, then AOO 4.1.1 (on your computer)
(or rather, an interaction between OO 4.1.1 and the OS) might have done
something to your OpenOffice profile; thus, dragging it to the trash
after downgrading to 4.0.1 made the problem go away.

B. If it opens only those password-protected files that worked before,
but not those that you attempted to save in OpenOffice 4.1.1, then the
act of saving the files seems to have corrupted them.

C. If I misunderstand your e-mail, and you can actually open the files
as soon as you downgrade to 4.0.1, then that means that AOO 4.1.1 simply
can't open password-protected files but, thankfully, you didn't lost any
data (see question #1 above).

What operating system are you running? For example, what Mac OS version

Also: in your web browser, go to any web page, then go to File Save

OpenOffice, then maybe the problem is with your file associations. If
you use Windows, then see

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-default-programs

for more information. If it's a Macintosh, then click on the file you
just saved, and then press ⌘-I on your keyboard. Where it says Open

If the problem ONLY occurs with Norton and not with just any saved HTML

Corrupted completely sounds like a very different problem.

My suggestion is that you create a new issue, with the following
information:

 1. An original file (RTF or something else?)

 2. The Saved As ... in RTF format.

 3. What you see in trying to open (2), such as a small screen capture.

If you can't duplicate it, wait until it happens again and you have a
specimen (2) that you use as evidence of the problem.

These only need to be small enough to exhibit the problem. (3) is
important in case others can't duplicate it, so that it is clear
there is an intermittent problem with the code. It's to convince

intermittent crashes on Mac....

2014-10-21 Thread Jonathan

I have two more-or-less unrelated questions:

1. If OpenOffice crashes once with no apparent cause (i.e., it cannot
be reliably reproduced), and the OpenOffice file recovery screen comes
up, and the file recovers successfully (albeit, to an earlier version of
my document), but the Crash Reporter screen fails to come up, then is
the failure to display the Crash Reporter screen a legitimate bug?

2. If a particular file reliably causes OpenOffice to quit
unexpectedly, is that a legitimate bug? If so then I can create a
bug ticket... after first running the file through Jotti (to make sure
it's not infected), of course.

What is normal or expected behavior if you open a corrupted file in
OpenOffice for Macintosh? *Should* it close unexpectedly?

(Note that opening this particular file always brings up Apple's
crash-reporter screen rather than OpenOffice's. Does anybody affiliated
with the OpenOffice project receive Apple bug reports that are
triggered by OpenOffice crashes?)

Intermittent problem with RTF files

2014-10-20 Thread Jonathan
I recently saved an RTF file, and after I saved the file it was
corrupted completely. As far as I can tell, the problem is intermittent
and I know of no way to reproduce it consistently.

How can I determine if this is the same issue that was reported earlier
as bug #68343 (http://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=68343)?

When I download the attachment in the bug report, I see that it is in a
foreign language; however, making any change to it, and saving, produces
a similar symptom to what I experienced. But the most recent comment in
the bug report indicates that it was not reproducible using in
ooo320-m19 (which, I understand, is the same as OpenOffice 3.2.1), and
I have Open Office 4.0.1.

How do I know whether bug #68343 applies only to documents written in
the language in question, or whether it has the same underlying cause as
the problem that I experienced?

Thanks for the information. The bug number, by the way, is 117931.
It's probably related to the interaction between OpenOffice and the
driver for this specific printer. Upgrading OpenOffice from 3.2 to 3.3
caused printing to become *painfully* slow. Then, upgrading the HP
printer driver slightly alleviated the problem, but it's still very,
very slow.
