As you haven't mentioned your operating system, or what problem you

have, let's ask a few questions.

Did you get the download from https://openoffice.org/download/

Did you read the installation instructions at

https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html

?

What did you do to try and install, and what happened when you tried?

As you haven't mentioned your operating system, or what problem you
have, let's ask a few questions.

Did you get the download from https://openoffice.org/download/ ?
Did you read the installation instructions at
https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/instructions.html ?

What did you do to try and install, and what happened when you tried?

Re: Problem bei Installation

2023-02-07 Thread Andrea Vt

Zuerst: Ein "OpenOffice Team" existiert nicht - hier lesen viele
engangierte und zum Teil sehr erfahrene User mit.

Die meisten sprechen aber nur englisch.

Also zum Thema:

Wieso Heise?

Top posting:

The quick solution may be to start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill all
soffice.bin processes shown on TaskManager's tabs. Doing that will kill all
instances of OpenOffice which may be preventing a reintall.

Then reinstall OpenOffice. Provided you have downloaded an OpenOffice
installation file from https://www.openoffice.org/download/ (as redirected by
it to SourceForge) you may safely disregard any security warnings.

Flying Cat broke Open Office 4.1.13 Installation Wizard

2022-12-20 Thread Linda Hull
I have Windows 10 and Firefox 108.0.1 (64 bit.) I have my computer set not
to update for 7 days and the 7 days aren't up yet. I was planning to close
everything and reboot it, when I have time for that.

I was happily browsing and making notes. Suddenly the screen went black!
The computer restarted and informed me that it was performing updates,
don't turn off my computer. I let it do it's thing. I was just reopening
updated Open Office (but it wasn't showing any of my documents) when a
black and white cat jumped on top of the desktop box, and the screen went
black, again.

I got up and looked at the desktop. It seems the cat(s) had been using the
power plug as a step. It was partially unplugged. I plugged the power
plug back in and hit the power button.

Everything else looks fine, (Bless the notepad++ developer who just "1.
Fix empty session issue due to forced Windows update restart.) Except, I'm
getting an error from Open Office. It won't open!

Error:
[Open Office 4.1.13 Installation Wizard

you continue. If you are using a multi-user system, also make sure that no
other user has Open Office 4.1.13 open.]
[OK]

I looked up how to deal with this Error in the Forum.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Open the Task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and kill all soffice.bin processes
that you can see. Then try to resume the installation.
Then, you can try to user profile.
If no change, try LibreOffice.

“OpenOffice” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.

macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.
This is message I am getting while I am trying to install the software. Please
find a solution for this problem.

2022-05-19 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hello,

Sorry to hear that OpenOffice has no simple start for you.

Can you please, take a short time and answer the following questions?

- What Operating System do you use?

- Have you checked the Release notes?

- What indicates to you that the Software is not working? - (Please, try
to explain like you would explain it to a child. It makes it simpler for
me to understand what the issue is.)

For your planned expenditure on AOO, this might be good to know.

Apache OpenOffice is developed on voluntary bases, There are only a very
small amount of volunteers that do not work on pro bono bases. We offer
the Software at no cost at downloads.openoffice.org or on the Windows 11
store.

You can support Apache OpenOffice by joining the community, and help
with translation, guides, tests of new versions and other streams.

You can also donate to the ASF. The ASF provides the Project
Infrastructure, that we need to develop Apache OpenOffice. We greatly
appreciate any donation from your side if you want to support us here.

Currently there is no simple way for the community to provide funds for
an improved development cycle.

All the best

Open Office 4.1.11 as well as 4.1.9.

The Readme file suggested installing Java that I did.

Ego and egotism are two things entirely. We each have an ego, as defined by
Freud - it is our thinking mind's sense of identity. Egotism, however,
is a symptom
of a fearful mind. When, through personal growth, the mind is increasingly
created by our loving source, then ego becomes transparent. The reactive
ego tends to be negative, the mindful presence to be positive.
Which is the true you?

*“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what **it
takes to sit down and listen.”* ~ Winston Churchill
Why courage to listen? Because we are opening up to alternative ideas and as
a result our precious beliefs and fixed ideas may be threatened and our ego
rightness put in question. But without genuine listening there is no chance
of real progress being made. To move ahead, we need not be afraid to speak
from the heart nor to listen generously.

Update Installation problem

Hi
I have been using your excellent product for many years.
At present, I am trying to install the latest update, but the installation
wizard gets to a point were a pop-up window states: "Error 1500. Another
installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before
continuing this one". I cannot find where another installation is taking place
and have deleted all previous update installation programmes.
Any idea what is wrong or how to fix it?

Granted that in 2020 it feels odd to still be buying DVD's with the
software on it but there is still a legitimate market for it.

I agree that there is the possibility to get things you don't want with it
but there are also folks playing it straight.

They add value by including extras, one vendor in particular has issued a
new DVD yearly, they include a custom windows installer, all the language
packs, lots of free fonts, bunches of added templates and manuals. The DVD
includes Windows and Mac binaries. They are clear in their marketing
material that support, for everything other then the installer, comes from
the AOO community.

They also charge are very reasonable price of around 10 USD or 8 Euro.

I would be wary of getting it on a CD these days. There are more than a
few vendors that will sell you a CD with Open Office on it. However, the
CD may have other little nasties on it as well most of which you do not

Re: Installation Problems.

2020-02-24 Thread Drew Jensen
There is a long history of OpenOffice.org being offered on CD and DVD.

This was at times with the blessings of the old owners of the Intellectual
Property rights to the URL, Sun Microsystems, and numerous individual
boosters, and some commercial operations.

The practice went on after the IP was sold to Oracle and then granted to
Apache Software Foundation with regards to boosters and commercial
operations right down to today.

You may want to nudge folks to only using the download from the
openoffice.org URL, that Apache OpenOffice continues to use, but no one
should act surprised that some folks will have acquired it via CD or DVD.

Best wishes,

Drew

You can download an reinstall OO 3.2; it should then be capable of being
uninstalled.

Or, you could download a utility such as CCleaner and tell it to remove
OpenOffice 3.2; OO 4.1.7 should then install.

It would be useful if you had given us the exact wording of the message, but at
a guess, this message might be that it needs the OpenOffice 3.2 disk to
uninstall the existing version of OpenOffice.

You could download the version 3.2, make a DVD of it and follow the prompting
before installing OpenOffice 4.1.7 (latest).

Or, download a utility such as CCleaner and tell it to remove OO 3.2, reboot
computer, then install OO 4.1.7.

Did you download the file from OpenOffice.org?  I don’t know of any version of
OO that uses a CD disk.

Latest version is 4.1.7 ( https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html)

If you paid for the version (very obsolete) that you are trying to install, you
got ripped off.  Open Office is free.

Re: Help with installation

2019-04-21 Thread Alan B
Kurt,

I have read, but not experienced, that some antivirus products affect
installation or launch of OpenOffice.

Your experience, install seems successful but programs won't launch, sounds
very much like the problem described with Windows 10 and Windows Defender
Antivirus.

To test this, turn off Windows Defender and then try and launch an
OpenOffice program. If it launches successfully then find the file
"soffice.bin" on your hard drive. Once found, modify Windows Defender
Antivirus settings to add the folder it is in to "Controlled Folder Access"
in Windows Defender Security Center.

My reference for this suggestion is here:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/87858-add-protected-folders-controlled-folder-access-windows-10-a.html

For the latest version of OpenOffice the soffice.bin file should be found
here...
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice 4\program\soffice.bin

OpenOffice installation 4.1.5

2018-06-11 Thread Edward Eckhard
HELP !

My previous version of OpenOffice 4.1.3 somehow became corrupted and am trying
to install version 4.1.5.
Have no trouble going thru the various steps, installation for anyone using
this computer, "typical" setup type,
etc. Then I come to "click INSTALL to begin installation". I do so and nothing
happens. I wait an hour or more
for the installation to begin -- nothing. Always get a message that Wizard
installation was interrupted before
installation completed. Repeated attempts yield same. Willing to go back to
version 4.1.3 were it available.
But may as well stay with the most recent version if I can just get past this
hangup. What am I doing wrong ?

Which previous enquiry, I can't find it.

I have downloaded the full installation file from openoffice.org/download and
the correct filename appears in my Download folder:
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Win_x86_install-en-GB.exe .

However, when I click on the above file to get it to execute, nothing

Yes there is something more you need to do. When you execute the the
file above it create an installation directory on your desktop,

in this directory you find the setup file.

John;

The section in the help that you quoted clearly states that it applies
to OpenOffice running on Unix operating systems. For printing on all
other os's it is handled by the operating system itself.

For Windows 10 you must install the proper printer driver for your
printer. If this is anew printer then it should have included an
installation CD. If it is an older printer then go to the printer
manufactures website and see if there is a windows 10 printer driver
available for your model printer then download that and install it on
your computer. There should be installation n instructions on the website.

With limited knowledge of OO I downloaded and installed using the "typical"

I'd recommend taking printouts of all licenses and contracts that are
related to the project, and have that lawyer go through them, to ensure
that using AOo will be kosher. I've come across a couple of contracts

I cannot speak for AOO, and I am not an attorney anywhere. What I would do if I
were in your position is to print out the AOO license for the version that
you’re using; write a statement of your circumstances and what you’ve been
asked to do; then take it to a California lawyer, and ask for a letter of

Having that letter in your file will give you some ammunition against lawsuits

I'm writing to confirm how we can move forward with Open Office for a project
we are working on for the State of California. We are a subcontractor to Xerox
and are configuring/loading both mobile and fixed computers for deployment
across the state. They've asked us to install OpenOffice on each machine prior
to delivery to the state throughout the rest of the year.

As an Open Source program, is there any open source agreement we need to have
signed before we move forward with this? Or, does the download of the software
form the agreement to adhere to Open Source requirements? Again, this is a
State of CA implementationwe're being extra careful to make sure we don't
run into a problem later on and just wanted to confirm how we move forward.

Of course, I could simply be over-thinking this whole thing and it would be
more valuable to do something.

I still would like any feedback that there is before investing in something
like this.

The need for development of hotfix procedures for end-users led me to elevate
this lingering topic of mine for discussion. I regret not anticipating the
need for better information for situations like that and user trouble-shooting
as well.

[DISCUSS] Places for Installation, Startup, Troubleshooting, Caveats, Tips, Workarounds, and maybe FAQ?

2016-07-24 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
[BCC to dev and users lists - please keep the conversation on doc@ for now, at
least by BCC, since it pertains to use of the wiki(s).]

I notice that the User Guide draft does not provide connection to topics around
installation, startup, and so on, at least not at the top level,
<https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/UserGuide>.

The Apache OpenOffice Documentation Project page is project descriptive, rather
than documentation descriptive,
at <https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation>. This page has a mix of
old and somewhat recent material and a variety of formats and
works-in-progress.

I am particularly interested, myself, in information about installation, start
up, ways of starting work with documents, saving and locating documents, tips
for configuring for careful and systematic operation as well as
trouble-shooting, working-around common problems, and limitations to be known
about. I am also interested in that information being well-illustrated. My
priority, by the way, is Windows first, since that represents over 85% of our
user community measured by download statistics.

These don't seem to be part of the User Guide project but there are a variety
of places where better information could be provided.

It seems to me that there are three ways to have the supporting documentation
address this.

 1. Add a section to the user guide for covering Installation, Configuration,
Operation, Troubleshooting, and Removal. It would need to deal with separation
of the different platforms (and their versions) in some clean way so that users
on a particular platform can find what is pertinent to them and requires
knowing their computer operating-system when it is not the same for all
platforms. It would also need to deal with differences in AOO version
functionality/caveats in some manner.

 2. Use the current structure and update and add the information that seems to
be important for providing the kind of documentation support I am speaking of,
employing/expanding HOWTOs and the Frequently Asked Questions to tie into such
material.

 3. Maybe some combination, although cross-referencing might not serve users
well unless it is smooth and frictionless (especially around users not losing
their place based on what they are looking into).

Down the road, I would think it would be good to move The Documentation Project
to a DocumentationProject wiki topic, and have current relevant documentation
at the Documentation topic. Older material about unsupported software could
move to a separate topic page (PreviousDocumentation ?) and cleaned up, and be
accessible from the top-level Documentation topic.

Is there some coordination required about this, so that things don't be left in
a broken, disconnected state? I think the material could be migrated in a way
that keeps everything connected even as material is morphed into a new
structure.

 - Dennis

PS: I notice there were no responses to this question about how inter-version
changes or specific-version items are identified.

PPS: Something else that needs to be done is cleanup around what is under PDL
and what is not. I would thing that needs to be attended to in separation of
Apache Licensed material and anything that must be retained under PDL.

Re: Installation

2016-04-07 Thread Christian-André Giehl

Hi Anna-Marie,

please give us some more information on what you are trying to do.
- What operating system do you use (e.g. Windows 7, 8, 10, Ubuntu, Mac
OS, ...)

- Were there any issues during installation? Error messages?
- Can you open the program by clicking on an icon?
- Do you see the program, does it open up?
- What are the steps you tried so far?
- At which step are you stuck?

Some minor information you could also provide: OpenOffice is a "package
of programs" rather than just a single "program". If you want to write a
text document you use OpenOffice Writer for example. What do you want to
do with "the program"? Writing a document, creating a presentation, work
on spreadsheets, etc.?

Greetings

Actually my signature is created by GNUPG via the gpg4win variant. I use
SeaMonkey's mail/news client with the enigmail add-on to manage OpenPGP
signing and encryption. I have my enigmail options set to use pgpmime
which will send the sig as an attachment. I have done it this way on
purpose so that people who do not use an OpenPGP compliant mail
client, which includes most web-mail implementations, do not have to wade
through the begin and end data that would get added otherwise.

The problem is that, with the thing done as an attachment, even those of us
who use gpg4win, the same as you, can't verify the signature without a plug-in.
That's because the ASCII-armored but mystifying boundaries and the signature
block on the end are not available for checking by saving the mail as text and
running gpg4win on it.

2015-09-17 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Take it easy, everyone

For those reading at home, note that, from Keith's message headers (which your
reader might not show you),

   Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha256;
   protocol="application/pgp-signature";
   boundary="JvV7IIxE9KUf4lmELnVij5s6phPdQh9Bs"
   X-Complaints-To: use...@ger.gmane.org
   X-Gmane-NNTP-Posting-Host: c-24-60-71-26.hsd1.ma.comcast.net
   X-Mozilla-News-Host: news://news.gmane.org:119
   User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101
   Firefox/38.0 SeaMonkey/2.35

Indicates that the sender is using Firefox to send a PGP signature via Firefox
to GMane and from there to the Users list at oo.a.o, each list manager doing
whatever it does whatever it does when it encounters such a signature.

Finally not all email readers recognize these, even with no suspects
in-between the sender and receiver. My reader recognizes that it was signed
but I have not installed any plug-in to handle that protocol ID.

SO the sender has no idea what intermediary lost the signature binding, and
the receiver has no idea whether the signature was good when the message
started its wanderings through two list systems and reached his mail reader
which, like mine, might only recognize X.509 digital signatures without being
given a way to check others.

One can check what the users@ oo.a.o software makes of the message at
<http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-users/201509.mbox/%3Cmtefh2%24b7m%241%40ger.gmane.org%3E>.
Notice it too separates the appended signature as if it is an attachment.
If you look at the "raw" message, you might notice that this is not in a
format that can be checked directly with GnuPG because of differences in
boundary markers and other details,
<http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-users/201509.mbox/raw/%3cmtefh2$b7m$1...@ger.gmane.org%3e>,

 - Dennis

PS: Senders, if you want your signed message to pass through the maze of
intermediaries with a chance of being verifiable, write a text file, sign it
(asci-armored) as a text file using an implementation of OpenPGP, such as
GnuPG. And paste the whole ascii-armored text into a blank, unsigned email
message. Intermediaries will usually leave the content intact enough to be
verifiable by a recipient who knows how to check the text with GnuPG.
Or take the easy way and realize reality does not match every expectation
and don't bother to sign messages to public mailing lists.

I recently tried to install AOO V4.1.1 on a friend's laptop running
Windows 8. It extracted fine and started the setup. When it tried to
install the Visual C++ 2008 redistributable it said that it could not
find the file and the installation failed.

The install was run from the administrator account and was done bot with

can be shed on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

Openoffice installation problem - MAC

2015-03-26 Thread David Gambrill
Hello,

I have a Macbook Pro 2011 running OS X Yosemite and recently downloaded
OpenOffice (Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_MacOS_x86-64_install_en-US) for
installation. After clicking on the file and then dragging the OpenOffice file
into the application folder as outlined on your website, OpenOffice will not
open. When I click on the OpenOffice icon in the applications folder it begins
to open but soon comes up with an error message. The message says “OpenOffice
quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to
see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.” The only options are
Ignore, Report…, and Reopen.

I have tried

- restarting the Mac a number of times,
- deleting the application and reinstalling it,
- deleting the application and downloaded file and re-downloading it.

None of these have resulted in any difference.

I have looked for any OpenOffice files in the 'Library/Saved Application State’
folder and there is nothing there.

Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong and any required action to
fix the problem.

Regards, David

What key? You don't need a key of any kind for Apache OpenOffice, so
obviously you are trying to install something else or you downloaded it
from somewhere else than the Apache OpenOffice download site. Don't, just
don't.

Don't know from the information you've provided but typical ways to prevent
install problems would include:
- first look in Control Panel to see if Windows thinks OpenOffice was
installed. If it does try the uninstall

then

- use OpenOffice install only if downloaded from https://www.openoffice.org
(you are redirected to http://sourceforge.net but that's okay)

- make sure Windows is clean and stable (no malware on system, registry
doesn't have spurious entries)
-- Malwarebytes is great for cleaning malware from system,
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
-- CCleaner is great for cleaning kruft from registry,
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

- make sure Windows is up to date (latest updates have been run)

- if install still not successful make sure Antivirus is shut off and try
install again BUT be sure to turn Antivirus back on when you're done!

Thank you for the pointers to the malware cleaner and registry cleaner

Very valuable to tuck away in case of future need.

program seems to work well. However, the program freezes about three quarters
of the way through the installation process. This same problem happens every
time. I am running windows 7. Can you advise me what I need to do to get it

Language packs must be installed alongside a full version (they only add
a new language). See http://www.openoffice.org/download/full_vs_lp.html
; so, my recommendation is to download the full version from the
official site http://www.openoffice.org and make sure it is installed
properly before installing a language pack.
