There is an extension 
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/pdf-import-apache-openoffice 
which allows importing PDF files, but it may not have full capabilities 
like a proper PDF editor. Apache OpenOffice isn't designed to open or 
edit PDFvfiles.

The fix for your problem is to delete or rename your OO user profile.

If you are using Windows, close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File 
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address 
Bar and press Enter. Delete or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

I did have 4.1.2 installed and uninstalled it, thinking an earlier version may 
not have this bug.  I have checked to ensure the dictionary associated with the 
document is English – US, and it is.  I have searched the forums and they 
identify the problem, but the forums are rather cluttered and I have not been 
able to find a solution if one has been given.

Dieser mail-Server leitet in der Regel keine Anhänge weiter. Du wirst wohl 
schreiben müssen, welche Meldung Du von Windows erhalten hast.

beim Versuch, die Version 4.1.4 zu installieren, popt anhängendes
Bild auf und Windows (8.1) fordert mich auf, die Installation zu
beenden. Ich habe Administrationsrechte und arbeite bereits mit der
Version 4.0.1 Was mache ich falsch?

Wobei es dann bei pps Ihre Angabe während der Installation von OpenOffice war 
das OpenOffice diese Dateien berücksichtigt, siehe diese Optionen:

und Sie bei txt sogar manuell ins System eingegriffen haben müssen um diese 
Dateien mit OpenOffice zu verknüpfen, denn normalerweise ist OPenOffice nicht 
das Standardprogramm zum Öffnen von txt.

Führen Sie eine Reparaturinstallation von OPenOffice durch, bei Windows 7 z.B.

Alternativ geht auch (aber das ist unbequemer) die normale händische 
Dateitypzuordnung. Unter Windows 7 geht das über Start-Standardprogramme 
-->"Dateityp oder Protokoll einem Programm zuordnen"

vermutlich stimmen die Dateizuordnungen nicht.

Prüfe mal unter
"Systemsteuerung\Alle Systemsteuerungselemente\Standardprogramme\Standardprogramme 
festlegen"
ob OpenOffice als Standardprogramm für diese Dateitypen eingetragen ist.

Alternativ Kontextmenü einer Datei auswählen und dann "Öffnen mit -> Standardprogramm auswählen..." 
aufrufen

konnten ist dies nach Neuinstallation von Op.Off. 4.1.1 nicht mehr
möglich. 

Aus dem Explorer ist die Öffnung von Open Office nicht mehr
möglich (s.Anhang) nur 

wenn vor Beginn des Aufrufs / der Bearbeitung
von Text-/Tabellen/Präsentations-Dateien 

Open Office 4.1.1 über
Desktop-Symbol geöffnet wurde ist dies möglich. 

Das vorherige
Op.Off.-Programm 4.0...wurde vor dem Download ordnungsgemäß


deinstalliert. Beim Download vom aktuellen Programm gab es keinerlei


Fehlermeldung. 

Ich bitte als langjähriger Kunde um Hilfe, dass die
vereinfachte Möglichkeit des 

Aufrufes von Text/Tab.-Dateien mit
automat. Öffnung des Open Office-Programmes 

aus dem Explorer wieder
möglich ist .

Apache OpenOffice ist Freie Software, d.h.: Jeder kann es nutzen, den
Quellcode studieren, an andere weitergeben oder auf sonstige Weise
verbreiten und es verbessern oder an seine Bedürfnisse anpassen und die
veränderte Version weitergeben.

Dies bedeutet allerdings nicht, dass der Download oder ein Medium, auf
dem sich Apache OpenOffice befindet kostenlos sein muss. Leider

First off, I hope you're getting in only from www.openoffice.org.  Also,
what operating system are you running.  With Windows, it normally is
downloaded to your Downloads folder.  You then have to double click on
the downloaded file to start the installation process.

Please download only from https://www.openoffice.org/download/ . This is
the official site. Once the download link is clicked you will be redirected
to Sourceforge. Wait a few moments after redirection and the download will

Please note, the download DOES NOT install the program. It copies the
installation program onto your computer. Once the installation file is on
the computer it must be run to complete program installation. Depending
on the browser you're using the cues to run the program will be different.

If you're using Windows and the installation program has been successfully
downloaded do the following to complete installation...
1. locate the file in the folder it has been downloaded into
2. right click the file
3. from the menu that appears select run as administrator
3.1. if no option run as administrator then select open

nämlich mehrere Möglichkeiten (Extras = Einstellungen =
Spracheinstellungen = Sprachen, Extras = Einstellungen =
Spracheinstellungen = Linguistik, Extras = Sprache = Für die
Auswahl/den Absatz/den gesamten Text); und auch nicht, ob das bei
*neuen* Dokumenten passiert, oder bei *abgespeicherten* (in letzterem
Fall basiert das einfach auf der im Dokument abgespeicherten Einstellung).

 Liegt es daran, dass ich Windows 7
 benutze?

Eher unwahrscheinlich[tm].

On the File menu, go to Printer Settings ... and on the Printer Setup dialog 
click Options... in the lower-left corner.  Look at the Comments column for the 
available choices.  These are on 4.1.1, they might be there on 4.0.1 too [;).

I don't think you can print what OpenOffice calls comments other than 
by themselves, at the bottom of each page, or at the end of the 
document. So no, I don't think you can print them where they appear

I don't think there is really any difference between the versions.

o Go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice Writer | Print | Comments to 
select whether and how comments are printed.

o Alternatively, access the same options on the fly in the Print dialogue.

If you want to create sidebars, you have a number of choices. You 
could insert a frame for each comment. But your best bet is probably 
to make your entire document a table with two columns and one row; 
the table does not need to have a border, so need not be visible, and 
can span multiple pages. Then your text could go in a large column 
and the comments in a parallel narrow column. You'd have to 
experiment with aligning your comments, which would presumably be 
sparser then that parallel text. You can set vertical positioning as 
a paragraph or a paragraph style property. It may be easier to 
distribute your text between different table rows, so that comments 
can be placed in the corresponding row.

Buonasera,

Ho installato due volte a distanza di sei mesi la versione Open Office 
4.1.1.


Essa è totalmente incompatibile con i dizionari nelle varie lingue, 
compreso l'Italiano di base.
Siccome tutte le parole vengono sottolineate come errore, ho cercato 
anche di installare nuovamente le estensioni relative ai dizionari,
ma la funzione di caricamento installazione mi dice di non trovarli, 
mentre fisicamente sono proprio in quella directory.
Il problema lo avevo già riportato sei mesi fa e mi avete anche mandato 
una e-mail dicendomi che avevate messo a posto la compatibilità delle 
estensioni dei dizionari.
Così per due volte ho ripristinato il PC al livello di back-up 
precedente, siccome non è sufficiente disinstallare Open Office, 4.1.1, 
a causa di molti file di sistema che rimangono corrotti.
Mi auguro che nell'emettere la versione 4.1.2, che attendo, vi 
assicuriate anche della compatibilità delle estensioni dei dizionari.

Il problema del profilo utente e' stato risolto ma sui sistemi che hanno 
il problema e' necessario resettare (rinominare) il profilo utente come 
spiegato nella pagina indicata da Dennis. Non occorre reinstallare o 
aggiornare OpenOffice, basta chiuderlo, rinominare il profilo e riaprire 
OpenOffice. Si rivolga al forum in caso di ulteriori dubbi.

Nutzung von Windows Live Mail mit OpenOffice ermöglicht, siehe:

Die Extension ist im Moment nur zum Testen gedacht, der produktive Einsatz wird

Das liegt nicht an OO, sondern an Live Mail; das besitzt schlicht und
einfach keine Schnittstelle für Zugriffe durch Drittprogramme (und jetzt
rate mal, warum Microsoft die 'vergessen' hat ...).

Entweder installierst Du Dir ein anderes Emailprogramm, oder Du gehst
über die Dateiebene (Datei in OO abspeichern, nach Live Mail wechseln,
und von dort versenden).

Da liegt augenscheinlich ein Fehler in OO vor, das mit den aktuellen Versionen 
von
Windows Live Mail nicht zurecht kommt [1], installiere z.B. die 2009er Version 
[2]
von Live Mail damit geht es [3].

problems with apache open office 4.1.1.

I downloaded your program apache OpenOffice 4.1.1.for mac 
I write on a Macbook pro 15, the newest version. Osx10.9.5   I write in 
hebrew, and the letters jump on each other constantly, sometimes it stops when 
i go to the next row, sometimes not, the only time it works correct is when i 
open the sign: Invisible characters. 
Can anyone tell me how i can fix this. On my old computer, also with Osx10.9.5 
I have worked for years with this program version 3.4.1.
so i do not mind taking that version again, but can not find it on internet…

Es soll Leute geben, auf deren Festplatten sieht es aus, wie bei
Hempels unterm Sofa. Da können schon einmal ganze Verzeichnisse
unauffindbar sein. ;-) Im Zeitalter hunderter GB großer Festplatten
sicherlich kein Einzelfall. Wenn man dann noch Vernetzung und
Cloud-Computing in Betracht zieht, wird die Dislokation des
Datenbestandes eher noch unübersichtlicher.

Do you mean the facility where Calc automatically suggests matching 
input found in the same column? To turn this off, remove the tick 
from Tools | Cell Content  | AutoInput.

problem with spellcheck on Open Office 4.1.1

I recently download this update. Now all my documents, new and from
previous versions, show up with all text underlined in red (as if it is
miss-spelled). When I go to spell check, (and my language selection is
correct) it challenges every single word. Every one of them. What is the
problem? And, how do I fix it? I am a professional writer/editor and this
is creating havoc. Thank you.

you can download a thesaurus from extensions.openoffice.org and place it 
anywhere you want. after that you should launch openoffice, go to 'tools - 
extensions manager', click 'add', navigate to the directory where you placed 
the thesaurus extension, choose that file and press 'open'. a wizard will start 
and guide you through the rest of the thesaurus installation process. after it 
has been installed, you should activate it under 'tools - options - language 
settings - writing aids'.

Open Office 4.1.1 Download problems

I checked for updates and was told that version Open Office 4.1.1 was 
available for download.  To do this I was to open and run a 
downloaded zip file.  When I tried to do this my Malware program 
blocked the file as harmful and it has disappeared from my Downloads 
folder.  Anything louche going on?

you can download the full installation set from openoffice.org/download. by the 
way, it is an '.exe', not a '.zip'.
