Re: Problem with Open Office

2013-02-07 Thread Volker Holfeld
Hi,

I answer this question in German.

Best regards,
Volker.

Hallo Anja,

Viel Erfolg!
Beste Grüße,
Volker.

Force quit Apache OpenOffice. Then you need to delete the file
"org.openoffice.script.savedState". It is in the "Saved Application State" folder in your

Roy,

It sounds like you have inadvertently changed your document's zoom
setting. Open your document, look in the bottom right hand corner of the
document window and you will see an area with a percentage (maybe 20%)
value. Right click in that area and from the context (pop-up) menu that
appears select a different (maybe 100% or Page Width) option. Now save
your document and when you open it again it should have the same zoom
setting.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Thank you for your very quick response, I have been toying with the problem
over the last few hours, I noted that one document had locked after the title
which I changed, shortly after I had to restart the computer as it would not
open any files, low and behold the documents are now O.K. even a problem I had
with the time it was taking to go into Open Office seems to have resolved
itself.
The problem I had was with all my documents but this has also resolved itself
and they are all behaving.
Many thanks for your suggestion I will log this in case I get a similar

A Table of contents is Generated using styles defined in on the Styles tab of
/Insert /Indexes and Tables Indexes and Tables > Table of Contents. To cause
it to change you need to alter the defining criteria (usually the Heading
styles in the document itself) or the Contents styles defined on the Styles tab
of the Insert window. To access these once the Table of Contents is generated,
right click on the ToC and choose Edit from the popup. If you wish to manually
change lines of the ToC without using the automatic generation feature, use the
Edit function I mentioned above and uncheck "Protected against manual changes"
on the Index/Table tab of the creation dialog.

Is there a better way to report this problem?

There is not a lot of information you supply, so all we could do is give
some guidelines.

First thing you could do is to check if you have the following settings
applied:
Go to: Tools --> Options --> OpenOffice.org --> Print and activate all
check boxes in the Warning section.

Second you should compare Printer settings and Page size.
Go to: Format --> Page and check your page size and Margins etc.
Also the Header and footer settings could have an impact.

Start by renaming your OpenOffice user profile.

As you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer (sometimes
called Windows Explorer)
Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a
good choice. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems.

I myself have had the spell check problem under OSX and the solution given
by the users group resolved it. That is the only problem I have had with
AOO other than a few odd quirks that, to no surprise, others also
experienced. In my past I have worked with at least 5 different pieces of
writing and publishing software and found that they are all similar and
each has it's own set of quirks. As stated, there is no perfect software.

If you simply answer "no" to the option of keeping your profile when you
upgrade from 3.x to 4.x, you get a new and working profile without the
need to look for workarounds later.

So this can be "solved" by simply not upgrading 3.x profiles any longer
by default, starting with OpenOffice 4.2.0.

This community is very democratic, you're free to contribute to fix the
problem.

I mean somebody there decides when to change the software.

That's truth and because we live in a free society he is free to
voluntarily contribute his time and energy to solve some issues.

How do you come to the conclusion that the problems are related to
changes in the software.
The problem may have been present for a long time, but have just
manifested itself due to outside circumstances for example changes in
the Operating System.

Correct! And nobody should say if you don't fix it don't upgrade.

Nobody is more important than others, but some are easier to work with.

Correct and that's why we help them by giving clear instructions.
And just for your understanding OpenOffice is maintained by volunteers
who give their time and energy for free.
And because they are not more important and are willing to listen, they
will be happy if anyone could find the cause of the problem until now
they are in the dark.

Why ever not? Freedom of choice is a *good* thing, not a bad one! And
what's that about "If this is a community"? You can make your own choice
to be part of a community or not.

Here nobody should feel more important than the others.

Exactly what makes you think anyone is being self-important? You are

I downloaded from my video camera a video on the laptop and during this download the

Afterwards a window in OpenOffice appeared saying "restore window". This window has to options to

therefore, it is not possible to close OpenOffice on "the normal way". I have to click on

now it is not possible to open files in OpenOffice by the finder. It is only

also, it is not possible to print or safe a new document in Open Office.
In the forum I found the advice to rename the "user library" and start the
