[users] inport of word document
I tried importing a Word 2003 document to OpenOffice 2.02 so I could print it for her. The document imports OK but the font appears different. She used Book Antigua which I have installed on my SuSE 10.0 system. The fonts correct but it looks like the style sheet is not being imported. Under Word 2003 the document is 151 pages, after import it is 129 pages. Apparently the page margins are also not being imported. I changed them to match the original document and the document is now 141 pages. All the data appears to be there, the font size is the same and the only difference I find is there is a style sheet called book - antigua on the word 2003 system that apparently was not imported. Multiplying that by 65 gives 2589.17. You say that is what your spreadsheet formula gives. So why is this a problem? When you multiply 39.83*65, you've rounded the true value 39.833... down. Re: [users] Re: Re: Writer will not open
Thank you so much for your reply. This is getting stranger by the minute ... at least to me. Perhaps the answer lies here somewhere. It does not matter whether Quickstart is running or not. If Calc is open and I File/Open any text document (.odt or .doc ) Writer open quickly and flawlessly. If I start Writer ... and wait until it locks up, THEN start Calc; Calc will open perfectly and then Writer will finish opening!! If I open Calc - then close it Writer will then open perfectly Something here has had some effect though. The "virus" downloads a graphics image from a web site and displays the image in a Write document. Which functionality would you like to have removed from OOo? Should the ability of OOo to access the internet be removed? The capability is useful to do things such as obtain graphics from a web page and display them in a Write document. [users] Reference fields disappearing
Hi. I keep creating a reference system in a Writer file, and it keeps disappearing. I Select the tile "Table of Contents" at the top of my document, and Set it as "Top", a reference field. Then right under each chapter in the document I Insert a reference field that refers back to it. Then I can click my way back to the table of contents from each chapter. This works great - for a while. But repeatedly now, after an indeterminate amount of openings/closings, the Table of Contents field disappears. I believe the chapter reference fields still exist, because when I enable View Field Names the word "Top" is visible. But nothing is visible at the Table of Contents position at the top of the document. For some reason OO is losing the Set Reference that I do at the doc's beginning. Ross Johnson wrote: Marc Schwartz wrote: I was under the impression that the image preview in 2.0.2 could be generated even if no third party tools such as Ghostscript, ImageMagick (convert) or similar were present on the system. That OO.org provides its own image preview, though in this case, only the bitmapped preview would be generated. If the aforementioned tools were available a vector based EMF preview image would be generated. Does your correspondent's Linux have pstoedit, convert or gs installed? I ran OOo 2.0.2 Writer via "strace -f" on my FC3 and looked at the trace output after inserting an EPS image (which shows as a bitmap in writer). As you've said here and previously, it first tried pstoedit, which isn't on my system. It then tried "convert', which I do have, with the commandline: /usr/bin/convert -density 300x300 eps:- png:- I then moved convert aside and reran the strace. This time it used gs to do the conversion (to PNG). Moving gs aside finally exhausts Writer's attempts to display a bitmapped image. It gave up and displayed the generic frame as you describe. Ross Hi Ross, Thanks for the follow up. I am having my correspondent check his installation. He has indicated that he has GS and ImageMagick installed, so perhaps there is an installation or $PATH issue. I will await his reply for next steps. Thanks for your feedback on strace. I did the same thing here and can confirm the behavior. Note again that this is now from FC5. Here is some output from my first checking on 'pstoedit' and then from checking for 'eps' output from strace: $ strace -f oowriter 2>&1 | grep pstoedit [pid 3183] access("/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/kerberos/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/local/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/X11R6/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/home/marcs/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/home/marcs/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3723] execve("pstoedit", ["pstoedit", "-f", "emf", "-", "/tmp/svm4c.tmp"], [/* 46 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/kerberos/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/local/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/usr/X11R6/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/home/marcs/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3183] access("/home/marcs/bin/pstoedit", F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 3741] execve("pstoedit", ["pstoedit", "-f", "emf", "-", "/tmp/svm4d.tmp"], [/* 46 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) So the above would suggest that the EMF based preview is only generated when pstoedit is present. pstoedit is not present on my system, so this of course fails and it goes on to try convert. It is interesting to see just where it is looking for pstoedit, including within the openoffice.org2.0 tree. Perhaps a hint of things to come? One key point of note, which is that according to the pstoedit web site: http://www.pstoedit.net/ the emf/wmf formats are Windows only, which makes sense since the only Linux based approach to generating such file formats is to use libemf, which past experience has shown generates poor quality images. Note also that GS is required to run pstoedit: "You need a C++ compiler to compile and GhostScript to run pstoedit. pstoedit should run on all Un*x like systems (including cygwin) and has also been ported to OS/2, Windows 9x/NT/2K/XP, and RiscOS." If you change the format of A2 so that you see more decimals, you'll see that it is really 39.83 (recurring, I presume). Multiply *that* by 65 and you'll get 2589.17. -- Bob Long - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
