There is a space in between Fractals and DVD. The email client made it

I am adding the link, this time with %20 instead of space.

Also perhaps look at 'PDFCreator' - it's a fake printer driver for
windows (which I assume you're using), mainly for producing PDFs (not
needed by OOo), but will also convert to your choice of image output,
using the 'print' option on any(??) application. It can take a bit of
fiddling to get the parameters right, but it does work quite well when
 you're used to it.

PDFCreator is excellent, we've been using it in our offices for many
years - just be aware, when saving to any graphics format, it can only
do one page at a time.

Hello Rich,

Some people seem to get carried away easily, far from the simple question of
unsophisticated users like us...
You can use the Export function to save your presentation in jpeg/jpg
format.
File Export open File Type and choose jpeg
You will make a jpeg of each dia.

That's a new one to me. But I do see it's yet another of those
irritating inconsistencies between OOo modules. Draw/Impress do offer a
choice of graphics types; Writer (and Calc) offers only pdf or [x]html.
Believe it or not, just sometimes a text document does need to be
rendered as an image. At least PDFCreator is consistent (and you can get
a booklet in PDF form, as a bonus :-) )

Two more things:
1) If your slide does not contain complex animations you may want to
consider exporting it to pdf
2) the MS fee ppt viewer was working with wine so you should be able to
check your presentation also on a linux box.

That message commonly occurs when you create a document in ODF formats
and then save in MS Office format. If you have OOo on that Windows
computer, then just use it, rather than Powerpoint. Otherwise, test it,
to make sure it's OK in Powerpoint.

[users] Writer problem

2010-11-15 Thread rsbtho...@tiscali.co.uk
Hi. Guys,

I have a problem with printing envelopes. I have read how to do it
but it does not want to print envelopes from the address on a letter i
have typed. I don't need a mail merge type address list as most of my
letters are once only. In MS Word you just highlight the address on
your letter and go into envelope printing and the address appears
automatically.

Can I do this and if not what a great update it would make as many
people have this need.

I hope it is there and I just can't find it.

The current version of OOo will not run on Win98. You maybe able to
find an older version that will at
http://archive.services.openoffice.org/pub/openoffice-archive/stable/2.4.0/
. I believe that the 2.4.0 version was the last that would run on
Win98, if I am in correct someone on the list will correct me.

In the New / Templates and Documents , there are envelope templates.
Then you can got to Format / Page and then choose an envelope style
you want to use.

I know that Word has the envelope labels are automated, but with automation
you get limitation on how it looks. I never liked MSO's version of this
process.

When I use to need to print envelopes, I made a template from the Page
formatting options with everything created except the address to where it
is going. All I have to do is cut/paste the address in the letter and then
paste it to the envelope template, and print it.

Mail-merge options fail me for printing envelopes, so I use #10 windowed
versions.

For me, the best option still it making a template of the standard #10
envelope
and then add the addressed from the letters when needed.

[users] Calc Group By Analog in Charts

2010-11-15 Thread Alan Evans
I have a set of data (from bonnie++) that represents different test cases
each with 3 samples. I would like to chart the data but average the
samples.

Subtotals and Data Pilot give me nearly what I want but not quite.

Ideally I would like to be able to paste data in one sheet and have charts
generated from the averaged samples on another sheet.

My data looks something like:
name,size,putc,putc_cpu
foo-sda-test1, 16G, 36000, 90
foo-sda-test1, 16G, 36001, 89
foo-sda-test1, 16G, 36002, 88
foo-sda-test2, 16G, 38000, 80
foo-sda-test2, 16G, 38001, 79
foo-sda-test2, 16G, 38002, 78

And I want to chart:
foo-sda-test1, 16G, 36001, 89
foo-sda-test2, 16G, 38001, 79

Where the 2 rows above are the averages of the 2 sets of 3 rows above that.

I could do a macro but there has to be a way to do this more elegantly. Any
thoughts?

Charts may be cut and pasted. Create your chart - it will naturally
fall on the same worksheet. Then cut it, change to a new worksheet, and
paste it. Then, you can size it, and rename the worksheet tabs if you wish.
