You voluntarily subscribed t o the list.
If you don't like the list subject matter, then you can voluntarily
unsubscribe from the list.

Doing so is very easy.

The ninth last line tells you how to unsubscribe from the list. That
line was in the message you responded to. The presence of that line
indicates that you have not bothered to follow the directions to
unsubscribe from this list.

I'm curious, what you would report the list for?
* Your inability to read the messages you are receiving;
* Your inability to follow the instructions that are listed _twice_
in t he message you responded to, and twice in virtually every
message posted to the list;

> YOU are one sick individual

The messages are sent by a list. A group of individuals that
voluntarily and freely subscribed to the list, just like you
voluntarily and freely subscribed to the list.

>I have told you already that I want unsubscribe what part do you not

Did you follow the instructions on unsubscribing?

Or did you blissfully decide to tell the world that not only are you
functionally illiterate, but also incapable of following
instructions.

I am usually just content to read and learn from the tremendous body
of collective knowledge in this List.

However, to put your mind at rest, I, for one, have only received
only ONE copy of each of your e-mail from your "lists..." e-mail address.

There are other "cannot unsubscribe" type of e-mail from other people,
which may lead some who do not have the time to read such e-mail to
mistakenly think that you have somehow sent several copies to the
List.

Hope this helps.

Received.  Thank you very much.  You seem to have gotten the first one right
away
when I sent it.  The next one seems to have been sent to you about ten minutes
later, and the third one five minutes or so after that.  Before I started this
reply I saw in at LEAST one thread six duplicate messages.  In another I have
seen five.  This does not prove that there is no problem with my mail server.
But this at least opens up the possibility that there might be other

Hello Julio
I know that this list does go through short periods where for reasons unknown
some/all of us receive multiple copies of some/all messages. Ironically, it's
hard for me to tell if I am getting more messages than I should, because I have
two subscriptions to this list, one of which I am TRYING to unsubscribe.
Earlier I thought of an experiment, and I tried to unsubscribe from my only
other users@openoffice.org subscription. Guess what? I am not at this time
able
to unsubscribe from that one either! Translation: I sent a blank message from
the desired account to the appropriate address, and I am still waiting on the
confirmation email...

Which I suspect isn't going to be coming. As an experiment, I tried to
subscribe my Hotmail account to this list. The result? Almost immediate
confirmation email from the appropriate address. As soon as I was sure that I
was subscribed, I attempted to unsubscribe. The result? Again, an almost
immedate confirmation email, that I duly responded to. A little bit after
that,
I got a message telling me officially that I was unsubscribed!

This is really interesting: my messages have been arriving almost immediately
to
this list. So from that angle, I seem to be good to go. But when I try to
send
an unsubscribe request, nothing... No delivery failure notification, nothing.

Then at 5:10 PM seven copies from Harold Fuchs with subject: Open Office

Next at 5:42 PM five messages from Harold Fuchs with subject: Not

Hello Everyone
I must start by saying that I do want to be subscribed to this
list. This message is only about my attempts at unsubscribing one
particular address.

Here we go:

I run Fedora Linux on my computer, and I wanted to subscribe to
users@openoffice.org from an alias that is delivered to a real user
account. The alias is "listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net" and it is
delivered to the user account "steve"

I have just checked my "/etc/aliases" file to make sure that
"listsopenofficeorg" is still delivered to "steve" and I found the
following:

lists-openofficeorg:steve
That is backed up by the fact that for the first time in a long
time, I actually saw a message sent from
"listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net" arrive on this list.

users@openoffice.org accepted my subscription request from the
"listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net" address. For a while (I don't know
how long,) everything worked fine. I received all the email from this
list, and I was able to send messages to the list.
I have continued to receive messages from this list, but at some
point my messages sent from my "listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net"
address ceased arriving on the list. In other words, I was RECEIVING
mail from users@openoffice.org but I could not SEND mail...
So I signed up for this list under the address
st...@afolkey2.net. This has worked perfectly for sending and receiving.
Then I tried to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net.
Guess what? I NEVER received a confirmation to reply to. So, my
address was "subscribed" enough to continue to receive messages from
the list, but not "subscribed" enough to get an email through TO the
correct address to get unsubscribed. Not the end of the world, mind
you, but it is annoying.
But tonight I sent a message to users@openoffice.org as as test
FROM listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net. It ARRIVED! Before I started
this message, I attempted to unsubscribe
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net again. I'm going to check right now
and see if I got a confirmation yet... Well, nothing yet :(
In closing, despite what some people on the list in question
might think, it does appear to be possible to:

 1. Subscribe to the list.
 2. Receive mail from the list.
 3. But not be able to send mail TO the list.
 4. And also not be able to send a unsubscribe request TO users-
unsubscr...@openoffice.org

Hopefully I'll be able to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net
from this list real soon, and just have one address subscribed to
this list...

I still don't completely understand if you are saying that you have been
getting 3-4 copies of messages from one or both of the addresses that I have
subscribed to this list:
st...@afolkey2.net
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net

If you have only one address subscribed to this list, and you are receiving
multiple copies of messages from me, I honestly want to know. It still seems
strange to me that I only get one copy per subscribed address of each message
that I receive from the list. Also, is anyone else out there SPECIFICALLY
getting multiple copies of messages sent from ME? If you are, am I the only
person you get multiple copies because of, or do you get multiple copies from
other people as well?

Well, since I continue to be able to successfully send email from
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net to this list (which I HAVE NOT been able to do
for
quite a while,) the question still remains, "How come I can send messages FROM
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net TO this list, receive messages FROM this list
TO
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net BUT I can't even get a confirmation email to
reply
to so that I can unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net? If I was
convinced
that listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net would continue to work with this mailing
list, I would just keep it subscribed, and unsubscribe my other address.

Like I said in an earlier message on this thread, as experiments, I have
successfully subscribed AND unsubscribed various email addresses to this list.
The instructions on how to unsubscribe are very clear in my opinion, and I know
that they work, and how they work, because I have (with other addresses) been
through the following process successfully:
1. From the account I want to unsubscribe, send a blank message to:
unsubscr...@openoffice.org
2. When I receive (usually very quickly) the confirmation email, AGAIN FROM THE
ACCOUNT THAT I WANT TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM, click "Reply" and "Send"
3. Then I receive a message telling me that I'm unsubscribed.

For the address that I am trying to unsubscribe (which is currently functional
as far as sending and receiving from this list is concerned) I have completed
Step 1. More than 24 hours later, I am still waiting for the confirmation
email... Oh well, at least I know that I have followed the process :)

Hello Andy
Are you saying that this address is sending 3-4 copies of messages to the
list:listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net ?

If that is so, for how long has this been going on? I know that I have not
used
that address to send mail to this list for quite a while. I figured that since
my messages from that address were not arriving at the list, I would stop using
that address.

The first successful emails that I have sent to this list in a LONG time (from
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net) were sent last night. I know that I only
received two copies of each message, since I receive a copy for
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net & st...@afolkey2.net. The reason for that is
that
I have not been able to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net from this
list. So last night I only got two copies of my messages from
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net. Are you seeing different behavior?
(Actually, since I have not been able to unsubscribe
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net I have been getting two copies of every message
that I receive from this list. "As far as I know", I have not received 3-4
copies of my messages or anyone elses message from this list. That takes into
account last night, which is the first time in a long time that I started using
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net again, and the entire time before that when I
was
not using that address.)

Last night when I started using the address that I have been trying to
unsubscribe for a long time, my messages (again, from
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net") were arriving at this list really fast. So I
am
going to send this message from "listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net" If it looks
like it is not going to arrive, I am going to send it from st...@afolkey2.net

One more thing that will be really interesting/annoying, especially if the copy
of this message that I'm going to send from listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net
arrives at this list: like I said, last night listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net
started working on this list again. So I immediately tried to unsubscribe
again. It has been almost twelve hours since I sent the request to
unsubscribe,
and I still have not received a response. Here is the full header from that
message (there is no body or subject line:)

I fully agree that the behavior that you described in your original response to
my earlier email would deserve the rejection of my emails until I fixed any
problems that there may be on my end. During the time I have been trying to
unsubscribe this certain address, I have been able (as an experiment) to
subscribe and unsubscribe some (admittedly not all) other *...@afolkey2.net
addresses with no problem. It strikes me as odd that I am having this problem
with this particular address, especially since I use email aliases just like
this on at least the following lists with no problems, no duplicate messages or
anything like that:
Fedora Linux
KDE (Users List)
KDE (Devel List)
The Sword Project

Enough for now :)

I do appreciate any help that I can get in getting this particular address
unsubscribed. Of course I will continue to get the list from the (only) other
address that I do have subscribed.

Steven,

I think I am starting to see a pattern here.. This address is sending
three and more copies of the messages to the list.. That sounds like a
good reason to block it from sending to the list.. Back in Fido that
would get your echo mail cut off till you proved the problem was fixed..

lists-openofficeorg:steve

I have continued to receive messages from this list, but at some point my
messages sent from my "listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net" address ceased arriving on
the list. In other words, I was RECEIVING mail from users@openoffice.org but I
could not SEND mail...
So I signed up for this list under the address st...@afolkey2.net. This has
worked perfectly for sending and receiving.
Then I tried to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net. Guess what? I NEVER
received a confirmation to reply to. So, my address was "subscribed" enough to
continue to receive messages from the list, but not "subscribed" enough to get
an email through TO the correct address to get unsubscribed. Not the end of the
world, mind you, but it is annoying.
But tonight I sent a message to users@openoffice.org as as test FROM
listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net. It ARRIVED! Before I started this message, I
attempted to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net again. I'm going to check
right now and see if I got a confirmation yet... Well, nothing yet :(
In closing, despite what some people on the list in question might think, it
does appear to be possible to:

 1. Subscribe to the list.
 2. Receive mail from the list.
 3. But not be able to send mail TO the list.
 4. And also not be able to send a unsubscribe request TO users-
unsubscr...@openoffice.org

Hopefully I'll be able to unsubscribe listsopenoffice...@afolkey2.net from this
list real soon, and just have one address subscribed to this list...
