Youtube do their utmost to prevent you doing this. However their are video
rippers that try to circumvent youtubes protection. Whether any are currently
working or not i do not know. Every time they exploit a hole, youtube tries
to close it.

The legality of breaking someones copyright is what you have to consider now
before you try to rip any video. It therefore depends on your conscience.

You have emailed a list which is primarily composed of happy
OpenOffice.org users numbering in their thousands. Are you sure that the
right course of action is to piss them off? Did you actually attempt to
resolve the issues you speak of by utilising this list for it's intended
purpose, as a help tool?

Were you trying to save in ODF format or Microsoft Office formats which
may not support all the features of an Impress presentation?

Dear Sir/Madam

I am very disappointed in the above software I have been using open
source software for a couple of years now including software from the
Mozilla Organisation as well as yourself and until recently found Open
Office to be a great substitute in not better than MS Office. That was
until I had the misfortune to use Impress to complete a piece of
coursework for my University Masters Degree.

The stability of this program is a joke I have twice lost my work and
had to start again due to the fact that it could not recover the
document or go back to a previously saved version either way losing a
lot of progress on my assignment. Every time I saved Windows advised me
of a non responsive application.

Suffice to say I am not impressed with this and Open Office no longer
forms part of my software package and is unlikely to be reinstalled in
the future. I suspect that like most packages you have decided to bloat
it out with unnecessary features which means the simple tasks are now
considerably more difficult.

I had the exact same problem that you are (were?) having.

I found out this "MPEG movie appears in a black screen" was a
documented bug for OpenOffice.org (up to version 2.1), but it is
reported as fixed for version 2.2

You may read the bug info at:

So, my advice is the same as Cor Nouws gave you: upgrade to version
2.2 of OpenOffice.org

I hope this info is helpful to you.

There are some things that do not seem to work constant.
See for example

However, with OOo 2.1 on WinXP I'm able to play .mpeg and .avi's.
I use Insert|Video and Sound (Invoegen|Film en Geluid).

Very soon 2.2 will be available.
Probably even better.

I think it is 2.1 because it will work on two monitors. I can drag the
Impress window between monitors but the slideshow always comes up on the
primary. :(
What I think would work well is a 4-way selection:
1) Primary always
2) Secondary always
3) Where the Impress window is
4) Where the Impress window isn't
Default to primary if there is no secondary. (gray out the other choices?)

What I really want to be able to do is see the control window with the
previews at the same time the slide show is up on the other screen.
Somehow I don't think that should be a totally difficult chore, but there
is
probably more to it than that.

I will check on the version when I can get to the machine - it's across
town.

Hello Phil,

If you have OOo2.1:
1) attach the second monitor (or projector)
2) Go to Slide Show > Slide show settings
In the bottom part of the dialog you will see a section called Presentation
Monitor where you can select where the presentation should be displayed.

If I remember correctly, this setting is not presentation-specific but it is
a global setting for Impress.
Note also that if the secondary monitor is not present then (at least in
Windows) the drop down list is disabled.

Cheers,

Michele
