I simply had to manually restart ovn related services on the host to
reestablish correct TLS communication.
No other issue on host side.

Yes, no errors from engine-setup; all the OVN related services got
reconfigured and their TLS cert got regenerated.

How many host should I add per best practice.
I have 3 now, do I add 2 or 4 more.
Should the total number of host be odd or even?

Hi,

we recommend up to 7 HE hosts, it is not important if the number is
odd or even. The real implementation limit is much higher and you
won't reach it. But since we do not test more than 7 as part of the QE
process, we can't recommend it.

Martin, thank you.

7 is perfect, since my 2 SuperMicro servers are 4-node 2U server's.
I am using nodes, so, I will add 4 HE nodes.

2018-05-23 Thread Marcin Mirecki
Hi Gianluca,

The provider in version 4.1 was installed automatically, but it did not
save the fact of being installed.
Hence if you try to install it in 4.2, it will try to install itself again
(and this time it will save the info of being installed).

I'm planning to add a feature that will allow reusing an already existing
provider during engine-setup. For now you can skip the provider
installation, the existing one will be kept as it is.

Thanks,
Marcin

If the reinstall doesn't imply broken upgrade it is not a problem for me
and then delete the old ovn setup and reconfigure the few vnics involved
with OVN on the new environment.

If I choose to install the new one, the two inputs required:

  oVirt OVN provider user[admin@internal]:
  oVirt OVN provider password:

can be any settings or have to be related with the old setup?

So you advise to keep the old one and skip OVN for now and I can continue
to use in the mean time the OVN provider already setup in 4.1, correct?
Then in a future 4.2.x release when I will run engine-setup again I can
choose instead to install ovn provider, and it will keep anyway the already
configured one without need to resetup OVN and vNICS, correct?
In this case I will follow what you suggest.

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt reports using Grafana

2018-05-23 Thread Alejandro Cortina
Hi Shirly,

I went through your instructions just yesterday and they work but some
troubleshooting was needed. This is what I have found:

* When adding the graph I also got syntax errors: '*pq: syntax error at or
near "$"'*, maybe add an "ignore this error" line to the docs would be an
improvement
* I am new to grafana then I could not understand about templating. Took me
a few *trips* to http://docs.grafana.org/reference/templating/ to
understand it. Maybe some simple instructions would make experience better.
* Regarding tremplating:

cluster_name
- fails: SELECT cluster_name FROM v4_2_configuration_history_clusters WHERE
datacenter_id = $datacenter_id
- not fail: SELECT cluster_name FROM v4_2_configuration_history_clusters
WHERE datacenter_id='$datacenter_id'

cluster_id
- fails: SELECT cluster_id FROM v4_2_configuration_history_clusters WHERE
datacenter_id = $datacenter_id
- not fail: SELECT cluster_id FROM v4_2_configuration_history_clusters
WHERE datacenter_id ='$datacenter_id'

there are many more.

* Modifying DB, even DWH views are stable I think it would be better to
instruct to make backup.

Regarding modifying DB, Is it possible to revert these changes?

Thanks!

[ovirt-users] Re: update from 4.1.9 to 4.2.3 and OVN doubt

2018-05-23 Thread Marcin Mirecki
If the old setup is working, I would keep it, and manually update the
provider and openvswitch (yum update ...).
In the future 4.2 I hope the feature of re-using an existing provider will
already be there.

The setup is asking for user and password because we do not store these
values across invocations of engine-setup.
During a fresh install run we have it, as the user has to set it up, on
update runs we don't. The provider needs this in
order to authenticate users using ovirt-engine authentication.
Ovirt authentication for the provider can be disabled, but this has to be
done manually.

When the engine VM restarts from the shared storage your engine VM
could not resolve 'ovirt' address and so the host becomes unresponsive at
 engine eyes.
Is your DNS properly working? if not, please take care that
hosted-engine-setup has an option for injecting a value into /etc/hosts on
 the engine VM for you.

2018-05-23 Thread 03CE 007
Hello Ondra,
you're correct, there was much accept removing 'connection: local' line
from ovirt ansible roles.

however, the example playbook to deploy new vm fails at template option and
it complains that i don't have rhel7 template. Doesn't this come bundled
with hosted-engine and is available after deployment?

Do i need to create/install new template?

The configuration has only 2 logical networks: the ovirtmgmt and another
one that is already marked as not required
I just noticed that I configured wrong my first address of dns servers for
this host. This could be a source of timeout/problems
So I put the correct value for it.

NOTE: from cockpit web interface it seems it didn't maintain the config, it
continued to reverted with the wrong first entry of DNS servers; I had to
connect to host via ssh and execute

nmcli con mod "Bond connection 1" ipv4.dns "172.16.1.2,172.16.1.20"
nmcli con down "Bond connection 1"; nmcli con up "Bond connection 1"

and the resolv.conf configuration survived also a reboot of the node.

Then at this point I was able to put host into maintenance without werrors,
but not to activate it (acceptable because id doesn't have ovirtmgmt
configured yet), or better a reinstall, because I got now an "invalid
fingerprint" event for the node.
Indeed the ng-node os was re-installed from scratch with the same
parameters but I had not a backup of the ssh keys generated during the
first install.
But anyway at least now I could remove the host (the "Remove" button is not
grayed out as before) and install as a new host with the same name/ip
without problems.

It remains the question if a node fails and then remains inaccessible, if
I'm not wrong the "Remove" button is not a possible choice.
I can try to reproduce and verify.

Hi,

we recommend up to 7 HE hosts, it is not important if the number is odd or
even. The real implementation limit is much higher and you won't reach it. But
since we do not test more than 7 as part of the QE process, we can't recommend
it.

affected (still to update the production environment)

2018-05-23 Thread Jayme
Unfortunately there is not a lot of info out there about ideal hardware
configs for hyperconverged oVirt (at least not that I have found to date,
and believe me I've looked). If you have enough drives and especially if
they are spinning disks as far as I know your best option would likely be
to do a RAID-10 config to make up a single glusterfs brick on each physical
server. Raid-10 will add some performance benefits and also give you some
options to replace failed disks without bringing the brick offline. The
downfall is that you waste a ton of usable space with Raid + gluster
because each offer redundancy.

I'm about to build a 3 node hyperconverted oVirt setup on Dell R720s
myself, but I'm planning on using two 2Tb SSDs in JBOD configuration per
host w/ a gluster replica 3. I've gone back and forth on using JBOD or
Raid config with SSDs and never did get a clear answer (online or asking on
this mailing list). SSDs are too expensive right now to lose half usable
space to raid then another half or more to gluster replication.

[ovirt-users] Shameless networking question

2018-05-23 Thread Peter Harman
Ovirt Community,

First off: thank you - these emails have helped me to get Ovirt running. I
barely know what I am doing but learning quickly.

I am trying to do a network separation and confusing myself. I have two
physical networks (10.10.x.x/16 and 192.168.1.x/24) my ovirt management is
bridged on 10.10.x.x. My (currently single) Hosts have at least one physical
NIC connecting to each network. I am trying to get to the point there the VMs
are on the 192.168.1.x network and the 10.10.x.x network. The goal is to join
the VMs to a AD domain on 192.168.1.x but keep access as limited as possible to
the 10.10.x.x network.

I've been on a googlethon over the past few days and still don't understand the
best practice - or even a working practice - to accomplish this goal.

[ovirt-users] Re: attempting to upgrade ovirt host which fails.

2018-05-23 Thread Edward Clay
Interesting,  Looking in this log I see a large number of checks being
done unrelated to updating the system.  When I initiated the update
process with the host in maintenance mode I would see just a couple of
lines about start/finish repo checks being performed. That was it.
After seeing that I checked the yum.conf and disabled the glusterfs*
exclude I had placed in there previously and the upgrade process
completed.  Thought I had disabled that exclude already.  It's always
something simple in the end.

Thanks for the help.

going to upgrade that to all flash soon as the 2TB disks are getting cheaper!

I tried doing this a couple of years back as my post says but it was pretty
much undoable then. I guess I am going to go h/w raid to start and see how
that is. I haven’t got the money to put SSD in the 720s, but I do have 10Gb

I will building and rebuilding a few times and trying to remember what I know

disks without bringing the brick offline. The downfall is that you waste a ton
of usable space with Raid + gluster because each offer redundancy.

I'm about to build a 3 node hyperconverted oVirt setup on Dell R720s myself,
but I'm planning on using two 2Tb SSDs in JBOD configuration per host w/ a
gluster replica 3. I've gone back and forth on using JBOD or Raid config with
SSDs and never did get a clear answer (online or asking on this mailing list).
SSDs are too expensive right now to lose half usable space to raid then another
half or more to gluster replication.

[ovirt-users] Second host deployment fails on self-hosted-engine

2018-05-23 Thread 03ce007
I have self-hosted-engine (4.2) deployed successfully on cento (7.4) server.

The physical server has 'ovirt' as hostname and the self-hosted engineVM
deployed and running on it has 'engine.ovirt' as fdqn.

I want to deploy another host on engineVM and I am using pre-baked oVirt.Infra
role example playbook that has two host defined. But when I run it against the
engineVM it fails with 'Connecting to host via SSH has failed' error. Below is
the snippet from engine.log

Failed to establish session with host 'host2': SSH connection timed out
connecting to 'root@1.2.3.6'
Validation of action 'AddVds' failed for user admin@internal-authz. Reasons:
VAR__ACTION__ADD,VAR__TYPE__HOST,$server 1.2.3.6,VDS_CANNOT_CONNECT_TO_SERVER

I thought, the example playbook should run and deploy two hosts on already
deployed engineVM. Do i need to update the example playbook?

I can successfully create new VM using the oVirt.vm-infra example playbook. But

[ovirt-users] CVE-2018-3639 - Important - oVirt - Speculative Store Bypass

2018-05-23 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
As you may have already heard, an industry-wide issue was found in the way
many modern microprocessor designs have implemented speculative execution
of Load & Store instructions.
This issue is well described by CVE-2018-3639 announce available at
https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2018-3639.

oVirt team has released right now an update of ovirt-engine to version
4.2.3.7 which add support for SSBD CPUs in order to mitigate the security
issue.

If you are running oVirt on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, please apply updates
described in https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2018-3639.

If you are running oVirt on CentOS Linux please apply updated described by:
CESA-2018:1629 Important CentOS 7 kernel Security Update

CESA-2018:1632 Important CentOS 7 libvirt Security Update

CESA-2018:1649 Important CentOS 7 java-1.8.0-openjdk Security Update

CESA-2018:1648 Important CentOS 7 java-1.7.0-openjdk Security Update

An update for qemu-kvm-ev has been also tagged for release and announced
with
CESA-2018:1655 Important: qemu-kvm-ev security update

but due to some issues in CentOS release process for Virt SIG content, it
is not yet available on mirrors.
We are working with CentOS community to get the packages signed and
published as soon as possible.
In the meanwhile you can still get the update package by enabling the test
repository https://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/7/virt/x86_64/kvm-common/ on
your systems or manually installing the package from the repository.

If you're running oVirt on a different Linux distribution, please check
with your vendor for available updates.

Please note that to fully mitigate this vulnerability, system
administrators must apply both hardware “microcode” updates and software
patches that enable new functionality.
At this time, microprocessor microcode will be delivered by the individual
manufacturers.

The oVirt team recommends end users and systems administrator to apply any
available updates as soon as practical.

Thanks,

Can someone shed some light on the vulnerability at this time given we
have no microcode update, but all Kernel/Os updates applied, which

1) Does the unpatched microcode exploit require "root" permissions?

2) Do the existing libvirt/qemu patches prevent a user "root" or

IMHO, yes. When I installed (4.0) you could not use it for
hosted-engine storage. Don't know if that changed, but what's the point
of using different storage methods? I already had to set up a local NFS
(pr theoretically Gluster) for HE -- so might as well re-use that for my
main storage too!

Yes.

Both HE and Main Data storage domains are backed by SSD.
My ISO domain is backed by spinning rust.

I just shut everything down. So long as it's planned my users can
handle a 30-60 minute outage. And this is only when I update the host.
I can update the Engine on its own, and often will update my VMs
simultaneously to minimize downtime. But I'm okay with some downtime.

I don't think you can set up a different IP based on the connection
source. What I would recommend is setting up a web proxy on your ovirt
host and then tell it to always use the proxy. Specifically, always use
the public IP address.

Of course, this assumes you can reach the public IP from inside your
network. If you can't, then you might have a bigger issue.

I see, so you just did an in place update of engine I guess, what if you want
to update the node as well, and install a new HE? You'd lose the locally
stored NFS domains. Or what if the engine update stuffs up, there'd be no way

[ovirt-users] oVirt upgrade node from 4.1.9 to 4.2.3

2018-05-23 Thread rcasebier
My engine is upgraded and running 4.2.3. I am testing out upgrading my first
local storage node. I installed the 4.2 release repo and ran a yum update. I
had to manually install the following packages form CentOS (yum install udisks2
lshw iotop libvirt-daemon-config-network virt-install python-prettytable) for
some reason these dependencies did not exist in the oVirt repo's. I was able to
run yum update after fixing this issue and my host was installed with 4.2.3.
After a reboot, it failed to boot, the host failed to start the login service
and the authorization manager. Has anyone run into this issue?

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster quorum

2018-05-23 Thread Demeter Tibor
Hi,

I've updated again to the latest version, but there are no changes. All of
bricks on my first node are down in the GUI (in console are ok)
An Interesting thing, the "Self-Heal info" column show "OK" for all hosts and
all bricks, but "Space used" column is zero for all hosts/bricks.
Can I force remove and re-add my host to cluster awhile it is a gluster member?
Is it safe ?
What can I do?

I haven't update other hosts while gluster not working fine, or the GUI does
not detect . So my other hosts is remained 4.1 yet :(

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Tibor

sounds like indeed you are missing this template in your system.
take a look at
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-ansible-image-template/blob/master/README.md
for automatically creating a template from a web srource.
