Lightning tries to do a PUT on the shared calendars where you activated alarms and where you don't have write permissions. Lightning shouldn't do that - it should simply update its internal cache for alerts acknowledgment. If you manually subscribe to a CalDAV calendar with a Thunderbird profile that doesn't have the SOGo extensions, you'll have the same error. I remember discussing that years ago with the Mozilla Calendar development team but I don't recall the outcome. What we could do in SOGo Integrator to mitigate the issue is that after reading/refreshing the ACLs from the server, we could disable alarms to calendars where we can't write to. -- Ludovic Marcotte +1.514.755.3630 :: www.inverse.ca Inverse inc. :: Leaders behind SOGo (www.sogo.nu) and PacketFence (www.packetfence.org) -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists
Re: [SOGo] Thunderbird Reminder Issue
As the reported problem is not with calendar or alarm *display*, but with calendar *sharing* and permissions, that suggests a SOGo Connector or Integrator problem. The bug is not present in Thunderbird/Lightning alone, by definition. Even if it were a Lightning bug, SOGo's frontend tools require an old version of Lightning, so bug reports against that would not be particularly fruitful. The SOGo project bills Thunderbird integration as a selling point, so it's reasonable to expect problems with the SOGo/Thunderbird user experience to be taken seriously. This one has been reported before in the time that I've used SOGo. Do SOGo's frontend plugins have their own list? They do not appear to. If this is not the appropriate place to discuss problems with the SOGo/Thunderbird user experience, where is? I don't know how long this has been going on. This problem may have existed on previous versions of SOGo or the Thunderbird extensions, but I didn't notice it until recently. The problem occurs when a person (#1) is subscribed to another person's (#2) calendar (view only). If person #2 has current alarms set for events, these alarms will show up as reminders on person #1's Thunderbird. When person #1 attempts to dismiss these alarms he/she gets the following error: "An error occurred when writing to the calendar Bob Smith!" Upon restart of Thunderbird, the "Show Reminders" box is once again checked. The only way to turn off the reminders is to login to the SOGo web interface and uncheck the "Show Alarms" box for that particular person's calendar. This problem occurs on both Windows (XP and 7) and Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) clients. Right now, using the web interface to disable alarms is a suitable workaround. However, it would be nice to have this functionality working in Thunderbird, as well. I don't know whether this is a SOGo (extension?) issue, or a Thunderbird issue. If anyone has some suggestions to solve this issue, I'm all ears! In Lightning and SOGo you can disable alarms for each calendar. Select it, right click it and choose "Properties". There is an option "Show Reminders" (Lightning) or "Show Alarms" (SOGo). Just disable it ;-) -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists
