Re: [xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-03-06 Thread Ludovic Dubost

The best way is the Review button.. Once you have checked "reviewed"
them they will not come up again.

http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XE/XWikiCoreResources?action=review&language=de

We don't yet have a trusted reviewers group but it would be great to
have one at one point.
So for now anybody can review. I think the process should be that a
review is a second chance to check translations before considering them
valid.

Re: [xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-03-05 Thread hel-o

Hi,

i decided to review all german translations because i found they are not
really consistent.

So i used the "View All" option, but when i save one result page i have to
get back to the "View All" again and (i'm not sure) but i think the terms
are not in the same order when i call the same result page twice (very bad
for reviewing all terms).

Whats the best way to edit and review all translation terms of a language?

Thanks
hel.

Hi JJ,

I've seen that you have actually finished updating the translations on
l10n.xwiki.org. You've beaten German to the finish line :)
This is great. Let us know if you have other updates. We could look into
merging from your ApplicationResources file but this could be a bit
difficult.
Using the translation tool kind of requires using the web site as the
reference.

[xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-03-03 Thread Jose Javier García Zornoza
Hello
I've been working with XWiki enterprise 1.8-rc-1 and I have an improved
version of the Spanish translation than the one that comes with the
distribution.
Till Friday my connection to Internet must be with a GPRS modem with a
very deficient connection, I've tried to use the translation application
but with my actual connection is a pain. I have the
ApplicationResources_es.properties, is this file of interest for
anyone?, is there anyone working on the Spanish translation?

Thanks.

Re: [xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-03-03 Thread Guillaume Lerouge
Hi Helmut,

thanks for your time and effort :-)

Will translations in status review be in the new release. And is someone

else contributing to the german translation (would be good to know).

They'll be included in the new release if they're ready by the end of the
week.

Made some translations and think there are some problems the way it is done
now. Missing the context it is somtimes hard to tell what is ment, or if

there should be a space at the end

That's because of the way I handled some translations (I made some
beginner's mistakes). See
http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XPWATCHLIST-48for the full
explanation.

To find where any given transation string is used, you can browse XWiki's
source code using an IDE's search function, looking for the string name =>
it will return the name of the document where the string is used, useful for
context.

In the 'Latest Translations' part of the translation wiki theres a filter
funktion which would be great for the rest to. I think its really important
that there is a possibility to compare translations of similar words ...

Thats ok, also i think a space in the wiki where a page for questions for
each language, information who is working on the translation of the language
 would be more effective.

So some terms im not sure

Page and document seems to be used for the same thing
"tdwimgdoc XWiki Document"
"panelwizard . pagelayout Page Layout"
"rightsmanager . documentrequireviewrights (*) Some documents require
special rights to be view."

and sometimes not (office importer).
"nodocstoimport No documents found in the selected archive"

Is a Document always a attached File or imported Document?

Page is sometimes instead of XWiki Document

Document can be either XWiki Document or Office Document or Attached
Document

I'd recommend using Page instead of XWiki Document, Document for Office
documents (word, excel, PDF...) and File for attached documents.

Somtimes specific terms are translated, i don't know, but for some terms its
quite hard to find a good translation and it would be better not to
translate them.

Space - Rubrik
Shedule Space - ?Aufgabensteuerungsrubrik?
Pool - ?Pool?
Job - ?Aufgabe?
Job type - ?Aufgabentyp?

Shedule - ?Aufgabensteuerung?

Technical terms do not necessarily need to be translated.Typically, the
terms you highlight above are used in the Scheduler, which will most likely
be used only by an admin and not by standard users. Thus you may not need to
translate it.

Another question is, should the translation be formal or informal?

We're aiming at enterprise use, thus probably formal.

Thanks to you :-)

Guillaume

That would be great but maybe not to expect in the short term. The method I
use to find where strings are located is through Eclipse's search feature.
It's quite effective, but it requires that you have a full XWiki development
environment setup.
Otherwise you may be able to find it by googling using the following query:
' site:svn.xwiki.org "your.translation.string.here" ' (but I'm not sure the
Google index is up-to-date enough as of today). It should return the name of
the page, as in:
http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/platform/xwiki-applications/trunk/administration/src/main/resources/XWiki/ResetPassword.xml
Where XWiki/ResetPassword.xml is the name of the page where the string is
located. Not optimal, but at least this exists :-)
Hope this helps,
Guillaume

Would be some start.

Having something in the real translation tool where a wiki page with
discussions and comments from translaters can be listed and checked
would be interesting, I think.

And maybe also, in the same place, a link to a place in the wiki in

A XWiki Glossar would be a good thing.

It could especially help to create a more consistent terminology for the

Also some place for discussion of terms would be good.

Re: [xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-02-22 Thread Ludovic Dubost

For the volunteers, the workflow is:

1/ Register on http://l10n.xwiki.org
2/ Visit http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XE/XWikiCoreResources
3/ Click "view empty" next to the language you want to work on

For german:
http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XE/XWikiCoreResources?action=viewempty&language=de

4/ Start filling and don't forget to hit save.

For now this will help make a lot of progress. Once we are up to date
there are some more advanced functions but we don't need them now.

Our localization tool is here: http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/L10N/

Register yourself to create an account, then login. You can then look for
missing translations for any given language and propose new translations.
Committers will then review them before applying the updated patch.

I can also help with German, and I already asked about the exact
workflow on the translations 20 days ago - because I saw some flaws in
the existing translation strings.

So, how to do it?

[xwiki-users] Translation Volunteers needed

2009-02-20 Thread Ludovic Dubost

Hi,

Guillaume (Lerouge) has done incredible work to transform all hardcoded
strings in XWiki Enterprise to translations strings.

We now have 620 translations strings more

So we need all the help we can to get these translated before 1.8 final.
I think we can achieve the following languages:

French: 622 translations to do
German: 629 translations to do
Romanian: 1516 translations to do

French and German were complete before we added the 620 more
translations, and Romanian we HAVE to be able to do it with the number
of romanians in the team !
Guillaume will coordinate the French translation. We need a volunteer
from the Romanian team to coordinate the Ro translation.

Let me know if there are volunteers to coordinate the translations
effort in Geman or other languages before the final 1.8 release.
