It seems like your vpopmail programs could not connect to your mysql
server. Did you read README.mysql? You have to put the connection
parameters into vmysql.h BEFORE compiling vpopmail.

CatchAll+Vacation+QuotaWarn

2001-06-29 Thread Syed Faruque Ahmed

Hi All

Just to give a quick update on subject modifications. First two worked
(thanks Bill Shupp), the 3rd didn't (Sorry Agus Basyari that I couldn't get
it to work).

Details: I am running vpopmail 4.9.10 + qmailadmin 0.45 + sqwebmail 2.1.1
on a GNU/Linux box.
Quota Warn: I followed Agus Basyari's instructions; ie exchange his
vpopmail.c with the original. Placed modified versions of "quotawarn1" and
quotawarn2" inside ~vpopmail/bin directory. Configured, make, make
install-strip.
CatchAll+Vacation: Applied the supplied patch to a clean qmailadmin-0.45
source. Configured, make clean, make, make install-strip.

Observed: Whenever a mail was attempted to be delivered to a domain, mail
log came up with "Aack, child crashed" type of messages; e.g.
---
Jun 30 01:11:48 pop qmail: 993841908.653196 info msg 440984: bytes 737 from
[EMAIL PROTECTED]> qp 23478 uid 502
Jun 30 01:11:48 pop qmail: 993841908.755477 starting delivery 42: msg

Jun 30 01:11:48 pop qmail: 993841908.755526 status: local 1/10 remote 0/20
Jun 30 01:11:48 pop qmail: 993841908.774558 delivery 42: deferral:

Jun 30 01:11:48 pop qmail: 993841908.774632 status: local 0/10 remote 0/20
-
Although it appeared that the messages were getting delivered, there would
inevitably be a "Aack, child crashed" message with any mail delivery, plus
I got repeated messages while trying out a vacation autoresponder.

Needless to say, panic and heart palpitations set in after about 3 minutes,
and suspecting the delivery agent, I quickly left out the whole QuotaWarn
part and recompiled vpopmail and qmailadmin without it.

Everything seems OK after that, with normal mail logs. Phew, ...never
again on a production server...

Analysis;
QuotaWarn code: I don't know why the qmail child program kept
crashing. The only changes I did was modify the quotawarn messages by
deleting the first two lines (system messages), and add a couple of lines
of text to it. Agus, anything?

Re: vconvert

2001-06-29 Thread Syed Faruque Ahmed

I use Webmin my self. Very useful. However, how would you put, for
example, users and their passwords from inside a large "shadow-file-type"
file into a domain handled by vpopmail+mysql? Vconvert would not only
assimilate the users and encrypted passwords, but would also make their
individual directories and Maildir for the domain of your choice.
There is also a need to, vice-versa, backup this information from MySQL
database tables into some sort of "shadow-file-type" file for recovery
purposes, if needed.
(BTW, I searched for "RTFM" at mysql.com. Didn't find anything on it.)

function vdelfiles in vpopmail.c unlinks files... This could be the reason
your seeing "residue"

Since solaris' unlink command bypasses any normal quota/disk control your
going to see this residue. After a reboot a reallocation of the tables
should spark it back to reality. (or a fsck) :P

Subject: vpopmail 4.10.24 vdeldomain not removing a domaind directory
properly and leaving links in /var/vpopmail/domain on Solaris 7 x86

I have vpopmail installed 4.10.24 vdeldomain running on Solaris 7 x86.
vdeldomain is not removing a domains directory properly from
/var/vpopmail/domains.

Here is a sequence of commands which repoduce the error. The commands were
run on a fresh install of vpopmail.
Notice the link count for the domains directory.
apollo:/var/vpopmail # ll
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 bin/
drwxr-xr-x 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 doc/
drwx-- 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 domains/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:50 etc/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 include/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 lib/
drwx-- 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 users/

I add a domain and of course the link count goes up as expected
apollo:/var/vpopmail # bin/vadddomain foo.com 2782y2
You have mail in /usr/var/mail/
apollo:/var/vpopmail # ll
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 bin/
drwxr-xr-x 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 doc/
drwx-- 3 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:52 domains/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:50 etc/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 include/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 lib/
drwx-- 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 users/

I add a second domain and the link count of domain goes up again as expected
apollo:/var/vpopmail # bin/vadddomain foo2.com 2782y2
apollo:/var/vpopmail # ll
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 bin/
drwxr-xr-x 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 doc/
drwx-- 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:52 domains/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:50 etc/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 include/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 lib/
drwx-- 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 users/

Now I remove a domain and link count of domains does NOT go down! This
means the disk space and inodes are still being used. What
is vpopmail doing when it deletes fuiles and directories?
apollo:/var/vpopmail # bin/vdeldomain foo2.com
apollo:/var/vpopmail # ll
total 7
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 bin/
drwxr-xr-x 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 doc/
drwx-- 4 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:52 domains/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:50 etc/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 include/
drwxr-xr-x 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 lib/
drwx-- 2 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:51 users/
apollo:/var/vpopmail # ll domains
total 1
drwx-- 3 vpopmail vchkpw512 Jun 29 14:52 foo.com/
apollo:/var/vpopmail #

I have tried to verify it is not my system. I created directories and then
removed them in the domains directory with mkdir and
rmdir and didn't see the same behavior. The Solaris system has both been
running production systems for about 2 years now. I did
notice that the configure for vpopmail could not find my fdatasync(). I
have noticed this behavior with 4.10.22 and 4.10.23 as
well.

Any ideas?

Theres two things I could reccommend for using mysql

The first (and simplistic) is PHPmyAdmin which is a php based MySQL
administration tool.

The second is WebMin. I like webmin personally. It gives you total
protected access to all your system stuff (system, crons, servers, etc)
including mysql, and in the mysql section you canpoint and click your way to
a back up.

But theres always the better way of RTFM at mysql.com and learn how to do
it.

I have been mulling over this for sometime. I still don't feel comfortable
putting the development versions into production; too many frequent changes
that might be necessary. So I am still with the stable version of vpopmail
with a working vconvert.
However, there is an interesting script in the source under "contrib"
directory called addusers.pl, that manually adds a list of users, one by
one, to a domain you specify. The catch is that it requires cleartext
passwords. Can "vadduser" work with encrypted passwords?
Another problem is how to backup a list of users with their passwords from
the MySQL db? I plan to use vconvert to create vpasswd files on a regular
basis, but how can one do that with the development vpopmail? Does anybody
have a (perl?) script that can read the db table and write out a neat
little vpasswd file? I think that it is do-able, but am too pressed with
other stuff.

With the current version of vconvert "disabled," does anyone have a
suggestion on how to import my current domains into mysql? I'm not
currently using the replication feature which is -as I understand it- the
reason vconvert is disabled right now. It doesn't currently support the
replication freature that the rest of vpopmail does. I tried using an older

but it seemed that the path to the domains dir was not imported correctly.
